The Around the NFL podcast.

0:04

It's a total eclipse on our

0:06

hearts Kill.

0:08

Me from the Chris Westland podcast

0:10

studio. It's around the NFL.

0:14

I'm Dad, hands us back from vacation.

0:16

Got heroes here, Greg

0:19

Roseenthal and Mark Sessler. Yes,

0:21

we just did see the eclipse,

0:24

or did we?

0:25

I don't know.

0:25

I looked up at the at the sun directly from

0:27

you mustn't Mark. Yeah, but let's

0:30

say your eyes are like your eyeballs will be singed

0:32

and burned out.

0:32

That's not the case as far as I know.

0:34

Right see where we are, Oh, you are bleeding from

0:36

the cornea.

0:37

Other than that.

0:37

Yeah, Otherwise, fine.

0:39

Dan motivated us to go. We we sort of missed

0:42

the peak of it, but we were about to start taping. It

0:44

was time, so we went up there, and

0:46

unfortunately we realized it's possible

0:49

to be in a group of thirty five

0:51

NFL media employees and we didn't know anyone.

0:53

To ask for their glasses problem.

0:55

So I went I I was a little ahead of you, guys.

0:57

I made a straight B line looking

1:00

for literally one person I knew here.

1:02

Well, I like the conduct that in a dangerous

1:05

visual setting, we would just take other people's glasses.

1:08

Well, just ask for them, you don't

1:10

need them with Well.

1:14

Yes, the three of us back together

1:16

for the first time and what well

1:18

over two and a half weeks. Yeah,

1:21

so we are also closing

1:23

in on the draft. We are taping April

1:26

eighth. The draft is April twenty fifth.

1:29

I can't get you. And it's just a simple shit seventeen

1:34

days away.

1:35

Masterful, right, masterful

1:38

numbers work by you. My eyes actually are bothering

1:40

you right now. I'm seeing seeing

1:42

some splotchiness. I

1:45

did do a look up, did not have the three

1:47

D glasses because I didn't know anybody. But

1:50

like first day of school, today's

1:55

episode special one. It's

1:57

an annual tradition on around

1:59

the NFL free

2:01

agency, and it was a very strange free agency

2:04

this year, or maybe it's the new normal. Well,

2:08

we'll have to see, but very aggressive teams are

2:10

more aggressive this year. They got going earlier

2:13

players that usually or the

2:15

types of players are in some cases individuals.

2:18

Jadavin Clowney is a perfect example.

2:20

Instead of lingering on the market into late

2:22

summer, got scooped up in the first week

2:24

or so free agency.

2:25

The first time he signed a multi year contract

2:28

since his rookie contract.

2:29

That is a fact.

2:30

So just like the way the machine

2:32

worked was different this year, so

2:34

the annual Graybeards exercise,

2:36

which is pulling together the best

2:39

roster of thirty and over

2:41

talent. There's been a

2:44

depreciation of talent in the pool.

2:46

We're also doing a week later. Although how many names

2:48

came off the market last seven days, not a ton, but

2:50

different different.

2:51

Things that iowe Vanoy is the only one we might

2:53

have lost. That's it early it.

2:56

But coming up a little later, we're going to put

2:58

together that Graybeard's team and also just back

3:00

in on in general notable

3:02

names still on the market who can make your team

3:05

better.

3:06

And this is the first time that you've allowed, Greg

3:08

and I wouldn't use the word allowed, although it like

3:11

that we are part of the process that we're pitching.

3:13

Yes, yes, yes, this is going to be a collaborative

3:16

effort this year. We'll

3:18

see how it goes.

3:21

I see what you're doing though, because it's it's going

3:23

to be potentially, but the names that are out there, it's

3:25

gonna be one of the most challenging seasons

3:27

ever for the gray Beards.

3:28

Oh yeah it and looked at this list of players, said I

3:30

need help.

3:31

Let's get Greg and Mark involved so we can point some fingers

3:33

when the other.

3:34

The assumption that when I was in Maui,

3:37

I looked at the list and I was like, oh,

3:39

it's a little tougher this year.

3:40

I'm going to call in some help. That's exactly what I

3:42

think you did.

3:43

That would be way too much credit. It's actually a

3:45

compliment idea that marks you're

3:48

this.

3:50

I did not look at it beforehand,

3:52

but I just thought this would be a good time to mix

3:54

things up and see how goes and if the team

3:57

like last year's team I predicted six and eleven

4:00

they went for in thirteen. We'll

4:03

see what this, where this team comes down, and where

4:05

we go moving forward as a group or

4:07

me again as an individual, we will see.

4:10

But before that, let's do some news.

4:12

Well, Marvin Lewis is an idiot.

4:18

Before I went away on vacation, that's it all sound

4:20

drop.

4:21

Yes, while you were in Hawaii, Greg,

4:24

And by the way, what a state, great

4:26

state?

4:26

Where is in the top fifty? I mean, I mean it was

4:28

the last one to come in.

4:30

I believes it after

4:32

Alaska.

4:33

I believe it was at the right time.

4:35

It came about icebox up there in Alaska

4:37

pass streets,

4:39

and number one there was the states actually

4:42

are Alaskan listeners, I apologize.

4:46

Yeah, they don't have much to do like they would

4:48

cling to a podcast in certain parts

4:50

of the year. Weatherwise more than beautiful other

4:52

forty nine states.

4:53

Beautiful in terms of beautiful

4:57

in terms of nature.

4:58

Up in Alaska, we got the pipeline,

5:00

so we got some guap coming out of there. Also,

5:03

territory wise close

5:06

to Russia from a military.

5:11

Perspective, Yeah, he'd be very valuable,

5:13

right, Yes, Sarah Palin famously here

5:15

long, you know, looked out at me.

5:17

See Russia from her right yard. But

5:19

Hawaii, Yeah, I don't. That's

5:22

all I'm gonna say.

5:23

Mark, Well, I'm glad the two of you enjoyed

5:25

your lush getaways.

5:29

All right, let's get to this.

5:30

Oh but what I was gonna say was, before I went.

5:32

On my vacation, we ended

5:34

our podcast with Connor Or after

5:37

a very eventful week for the Around the NFL podcast

5:39

with a Mark Sessler top ten drops,

5:41

and I was many people reached

5:44

out to me angry that that.

5:46

Drop, Well, Marvin Lewis is

5:48

an idiot.

5:49

Was excluded, and I just want everyone to know that

5:51

was an oversight by the board. I obviously

5:53

would have had that very near the top had I

5:55

realized it, but we didn't have it.

5:57

Yeah, I mean quickly, like that came off a mailback

5:59

questush, and that came in just hours before the show,

6:01

and you did it from another angle. A lot of

6:03

work to compile what you did.

6:06

I did.

6:07

That is one of my more favorite self

6:09

drops. So I will say there was a time that Marvin Lewis was actually

6:11

in our green room. He was

6:13

sort of being dipped into the network. Yeah,

6:16

rounds a little and I don't know, it

6:18

got a little uncomfortable after. I would

6:20

assume he'd never heard that in his life, except

6:22

you never know how these things filter up.

6:24

And he just gave me a weird look, and I kind of was.

6:26

Like, I feel like it's safe to say

6:28

he was I do not know about

6:30

it.

6:30

Wait, yeah, but I don't. I'm not walking

6:32

around thinking he knew. It's just there was a weird interaction

6:35

to beginning.

6:35

He is back in the league, he's an assistant head coach

6:38

of the Raiders.

6:39

How about that that ends.

6:42

Uh, let's move into the news, and

6:44

let's start with Yes, the big news that broke late

6:46

last week.

6:47

I was vaguely tracking it from a

6:49

bungalow.

6:50

Stephan Diggs got traded, not really

6:53

a surprise, but still huge news in the

6:55

NFL when Diggs gets moved to

6:58

of course the Houston Texans, and we have

7:00

a little more details that have come out around

7:03

the trade, which

7:05

of course went for a twenty twenty five second

7:07

round pick via the Vikings

7:10

four Digs, a six round pick of twenty

7:12

four and a fifth rounder in twenty five. So

7:15

after the trade Houston, GREGI does

7:17

some business with Digs. They give

7:20

him a raise, a flat, a straight up raise.

7:22

His previous base salary went from eighteen

7:25

to twenty two and a half million in guaranteed

7:28

money. And importantly

7:30

for Diggs, they also voided

7:33

the final three years of his contract, which we're

7:35

going to cover twenty five to twenty six twenty seven. So

7:37

he is now on essentially a proven

7:39

deal at age thirty in a new environment,

7:42

making a little bit more money. So as far as fresh

7:44

starts go for Stefan Diggs and considering

7:46

the quarterbacks with this sets up pretty

7:48

well for him and really both sides, because

7:51

I know you guys already talked about this but there's

7:54

a non zero chance that Digs isn't a big

7:56

time player anymore, and the Texans

7:58

in that case would probably want out after one year.

8:01

That's the whole setup here.

8:02

Yeah, a lot of people had

8:04

their takes on the Digs trade, and we spent

8:07

a lot of time talking about it, and then this news

8:09

comes out a couple days later, and

8:11

people adjusted their takes that

8:14

it wasn't as good a move for the

8:16

Texans, that it's essentially a one year

8:18

deal, and I pushed back on that because

8:21

yes, he had a few years left on his contract

8:23

before, but if he had played at a

8:27

level that they hope to

8:29

get out of him this year, he would have been wanting more money

8:31

right away because his base salaries were very

8:33

low, and it would have became a whole thing between

8:36

the two sides, and they're trying to avoid

8:38

that. So I don't think it dramatically

8:41

changes the move that much. I

8:43

liked it before, I still like it now,

8:45

And there's very different thing in that. The ESPN

8:48

headline to it was we'll let him get to

8:50

free agency, but that's not true.

8:52

They have the franchise tag.

8:54

They also have exclusive negotiating

8:56

rights from basically now until

8:59

next free agency, and that's a totally

9:01

different situation than all the other teams. So if he

9:03

does play well, they'll find a way

9:05

to pay him, and if they don't, they'll franchise

9:07

tag him.

9:08

And a lot of angry Bills fans.

9:09

Are like in my mentions, being like, well, how do you He's

9:11

not gonna be happy if they franchise Tag. It's

9:13

just why are you worried about all this stuff

9:16

that is going to happen. If it's a good outcome

9:18

for the Textans, they'll figure it out, and if he doesn't

9:20

work out, then he will be.

9:21

If Yeah, we mentioned at the tail end of

9:23

that conversation that this very well

9:25

could have been a one year right situation

9:27

for Houston, And from that angle, like the

9:30

money aside, way, don't worry about the money. They've got

9:32

the money they can pay him. They can frontload it all to

9:34

this season and then see where they are yere from now.

9:36

Because what I think a bad team does is

9:39

turns around and gives Stefan

9:41

Diggs a ton more money when we don't

9:43

know what kind of player is right now. It's a

9:45

perfect fit for one season for a team that

9:47

is you know, kicked open their Super Bowl window, right,

9:49

and if.

9:50

He does kind of get the magic back

9:52

and has a huge year with a great

9:54

young quarterback, I would

9:56

not even think about tagging

9:58

the men and sitting on that tag because

10:00

you're gonna end up with an unhappy wide receiver, which

10:04

has been the case in multiple.

10:05

Spots for him.

10:06

But that's for that's best case scenario

10:08

situation, because if you're going to want to put the tag out and that meant

10:10

he was the star that they think they're getting.

10:13

By the way, speaking of money, Diggs has a lot

10:15

of money. He's had a fantastic

10:18

career big time receiver, so

10:21

he could do things like paying new

10:23

teammate Jimmy Ward the safety

10:26

one hundred grand to get

10:28

the number one jersey. So

10:30

he moves from number fourteen his whole NFL

10:32

career to number one, which he wore in college,

10:35

and Ward goes back to number twenty, which he

10:37

already had previously worn at the Niners. So

10:39

a cool hundred gs mark get you any

10:42

number you want.

10:42

I wish that in the in

10:45

the world that we work in the media, you

10:47

know, circle that we had numbers and someone

10:49

like some big shot could be hired by this place

10:51

and like, oh, Mark, I want to take your number.

10:53

Let me give you two hundred thousand dollars.

10:55

This little inside Baseball for this particular studio,

10:57

the Chris Westling podcast studio. But famously

11:00

you struggle with the recording

11:03

box that we plug our jacks into

11:05

our headsets in. Say

11:08

yeah it. It has been an ongoing

11:10

source of tension. Uh since we moved

11:12

here. How much would you

11:15

pay let's say Greg for

11:17

his box so you would switch boxes

11:19

and never have to worry about that again?

11:20

Would you not even a cent? Oh? Really

11:23

no, but you talk so much about it. Yeah, but I'm

11:25

giving you a take it out because then that's then

11:27

Mark sneaky cheap.

11:28

No, then then it takes the onus off of management

11:31

to correct the soundbox. I'm still trying to, you

11:33

know, strong arm them into, you know, paying attention

11:36

to the situation.

11:36

My grandfather, Paul hansis Elk

11:39

of the year eighty nine to ninety in a Pearl

11:41

River, big deal. He

11:45

you know, basically, the Elks are like many

11:47

other what do you call those

11:49

places?

11:50

Well, it's like social clubs, social clubs

11:52

veterans typically an Elks club with typically and.

11:54

My grandfather was a World War Two.

11:56

Veteran, and

11:58

and we would occasionally because

12:00

my dad and my brother are

12:03

my uncle, my father's brother uncle

12:05

ed because of Baba's

12:08

was his name, strong

12:10

ties to the Elks, they kind of came into

12:13

the Elks as well.

12:13

They signed up for the Elks.

12:14

And then occasionally we'd be taken to get drinks

12:18

where we'd go to the bar, which is a wild scene.

12:20

I can't even tell you everything that was going on at

12:22

the Elks, okay, but it was wild.

12:24

Long way to get to that. All

12:26

the veterans did at this

12:28

bar, and I went in there a couple times when I was

12:30

in college.

12:31

We was just call each other cheap the whole time. That's

12:34

all it was.

12:34

That was the only way these like

12:37

seventy year old men could communicate

12:41

and bus balls was just.

12:42

To go college A alligator

12:45

arms, Why don't you pay for a round? All right?

12:46

T rex arms and all sorts of terms

12:49

in that range. So what Greg

12:51

said to you just now Mark triggered memories

12:53

of the Elks. And I do agree that you are

12:56

in this case showing a

12:59

desire to stay away from your pocket.

13:01

No, I strongly just a little alligator arm action.

13:03

Who do you think most liberally get go arm.

13:05

It's rarely use variations of arms.

13:07

Who throws money on that character

13:09

on SNL arms who throws

13:12

money around town? Like at what

13:14

what order would you put the three of us in? I would

13:16

say, well, throw some money around town. That's kind

13:18

of a wild term. But just you are, you would

13:21

just like think that's how I operate.

13:22

You do?

13:23

You are in many ways? You're

13:25

handed out a lot of money a lot

13:27

of times. And that is a lot of situations that

13:29

is accurate. So No, you're right, that

13:31

was unfair. You really added the context that was

13:33

necessarily there.

13:34

I corrected you.

13:35

You did.

13:35

He was and I apologize, Okay, Stephan Diggs

13:38

was lucky, But I first of all, a good job by Ward. I mean holding

13:40

out for one hundred k that he kind of held his

13:42

feet over the fire. It's a lot of money. And

13:44

I just checked. Jimmy Ward's made fifty five million dollars

13:46

in his career. He's Diggs

13:48

has made one thirty six. He's been in the league a long

13:50

time. Jimmy Ward. Uh, but he's

13:53

lucky because Ward is not that popular

13:55

of a player relatively. I don't think many people

13:57

own those jerseys, and Kirk Cousins,

13:59

you know, brought up that he wasn't

14:02

gonna get number eight from Kyle Pitts. We never

14:04

circled back on this because he found out

14:06

someone's got to buy all the pit jerseys

14:08

that have been produced for sale to fans

14:11

for him to turn it into Cousins

14:14

jerseys, and that would have been hundreds of thousands of

14:16

dollars. And Kirk was like, I just don't care that

14:18

much about it, and neither did Kyle. That doesn't say they

14:20

were just like, let's forget about it.

14:22

It's fine. I think it's like a year or

14:24

something.

14:24

Yeah, it's a year. But and there's a lot of Kyle Pitts

14:26

jerseys out there.

14:27

But Greg, what about all these players that switched

14:29

to zero or two or whatever, like, were they yank

14:32

to do the same thing? Yes,

14:34

okay, well then fun just stay consistent.

14:36

And I want to give Digs a little credit because, yeah,

14:39

sometimes he could be a pain for teams,

14:41

but he's also big time player. Also,

14:44

he did not he had a chance when they did the

14:46

whole switcheroo and let

14:48

skill players get single digit numbers to

14:51

move to number one with the Bills, and

14:53

he decided it wasn't fair to Bill's mafia, the

14:55

fans that had his fourteen jersey, so that's why

14:57

he held off.

14:58

It's a little pop for digs in a big spot.

15:00

Fair reporting.

15:04

Greg. Do you have your Kyle Duggar jersey? I

15:07

don't. I only own one jersey.

15:10

Ever. I think I've only owned one jersey, and it's

15:12

a Troy Brown jersey. But that nice

15:16

first jersey, first jersey.

15:19

Mine was a boomer size and

15:22

Jets got it from Santa ninety three

15:24

Bernie Kosar.

15:24

Although I would not say it was one of those officials.

15:27

It was like I was a child. It wasn't like

15:29

one of those like one hundred and eighty dollars official ones.

15:31

It was my parents not getting me a jersey. It

15:33

never happened. Yeah,

15:35

oh they were like that's too much. Well

15:37

not the official one, but you could get.

15:39

The ones, get a T shirt, you could get

15:41

I mean, what could have been too hard scrabble

15:43

like you could get the the jersey was like thirty

15:45

five bucks or something like a B minus verst.

15:48

Right, it didn't know you didn't get the official stuff.

15:51

Yeah, yeah, that's what I was talking about. Yeah, right, all right, anyway,

15:53

Kyle Dugger.

15:54

The Patriots continue to light

15:56

up the imagination of the football

15:58

public. They signed the safety to a four

16:01

year, fifty eight million dollar contract.

16:03

The deal is worth up to sixty six million, includes

16:05

thirty two and a half fully guaranteed.

16:08

He's twenty eight.

16:09

Years old, but just

16:11

at the end of his rookie contract, so he came into

16:13

the league a little later.

16:14

But Gregie a lot of and.

16:17

I just did it a little bit too, a little bit of snarkiness

16:19

around the Patriots offseason about how

16:21

many of their in house guys they're locking

16:23

up, considering there's just no buzz and

16:25

energy around the team last couple of years. But

16:29

logically, you know, you keep your guys that are good,

16:31

and then you've got to find a way to supplement that with fresh

16:34

blood.

16:34

I look at the method

16:36

that Ron Wolfe used to use

16:39

Elliotollf's father, and then certainly Ted Thompson

16:41

and Brian Kuda Kuntz with the Packers,

16:43

and this is what they did. And it's just a coincidence

16:45

that the few good young players

16:47

on the Patriots roster and there's

16:49

not a ton happened to all come up for free

16:52

agency this year. So I think it was smart they kept

16:54

him. They kept a ONEU. Who

16:56

am I forgetting that? They also Hunter Henry Hunter

16:58

Henry not a younger place, but worth

17:00

keeping around. And they're probably gonna have

17:02

to pay Christian Barmore at some points.

17:05

I'm fine with it.

17:06

They do have a they have a like a

17:08

solid secondary, so it's like you don't want to have

17:10

that be torn down.

17:11

On top of it all, their defense looks good on paper.

17:13

I mean, the defenses are

17:15

unpredictable, but

17:18

on paper they have a top ten defense.

17:19

But they were a top ten defense last year.

17:22

They haven't had a Q rating this slow since like

17:24

the you know, mid ninety pre

17:27

bars Parcels Patriots.

17:28

No, there's not a lot to get

17:31

excited about in terms of the moves they made offensively.

17:33

It's bringing players back. The news

17:35

wasn't all bad for the Panthers last season.

17:38

It was mostly bad, but there was

17:40

a breakout player and Derek Brown, the defensive

17:42

tackle who really thrived under

17:45

a g ro everall.

17:50

In the three to fourth scheme.

17:52

He was He set up Panthers record

17:55

for tackles by aligneman. He is

17:57

a big time run

17:59

stop stud. So what do the Panthers

18:02

do? They said, that's a guy we want to keep in our

18:04

building. So he agrees to a four year contract

18:06

extension. The team announced on Friday.

18:09

It's a ninety six million dollar deal, market

18:11

included over sixty three million guaranteed.

18:14

That per year average of twenty four million

18:16

puts him in the top five or defensive tackles.

18:19

You're paying them as an

18:21

elite player.

18:22

I don't have mega takes about Derek Brown

18:24

whether he deserves to be in that class, but perhaps

18:27

you do.

18:27

I would say that like he

18:30

from a physical perspective, he is a dominant,

18:32

gigantic human being.

18:34

And this is a team with no first round pick.

18:37

You moved on from Brian Burns, DJ

18:39

Moore, your toy, Gross Modos

18:41

goes to San Francisco. It's like, at some point, Carolina

18:44

Panthers, you've got to keep doing what the Patriots

18:46

just said. Keep one of your foundational guys.

18:48

When you're running a three four scheme, like no

18:50

brainer to me.

18:51

These nose tackles are defensive tackles,

18:53

the closest thing we have to Nose tackles like

18:55

a run stopping defensive tackle, take a little

18:57

time to develop. He reminds me a ton

19:00

of Dexter Lawrence, who the first year or

19:02

two Giants fans and Panthers

19:04

fans talking about Dexter Lawrence and Derek Brown are like,

19:07

man, we used a pretty high pick on, like a

19:09

plugger, and then they get older

19:12

and they get tougher, and suddenly they're the best players

19:14

in the league at their position.

19:16

So it's a defensive tackle, you

19:18

know.

19:19

I don't know what you explosion in terms of the money

19:21

that has been out there the last couple of years between

19:24

Chris Jones and Wilkins and Madoweke and

19:26

even Jeffrey Simmons, Aron Pain and Brown

19:28

fits right in as one of the best players

19:30

at the position.

19:33

Jordan Mailata. In other news,

19:37

the International Pathway Program to

19:39

Fire Yeah Thriving, we talked

19:41

about the new Chiefs potential playmaker added

19:44

to.

19:44

The felling a highway than a pathway at this.

19:46

Point, a highway paved solely

19:48

by Henry Hotchon with gold, with

19:50

gold and in a handsome

19:52

manner by Henry. The

19:55

IPP program is a

19:57

method being employed by the league

19:59

to get more players in

20:01

international markets trained

20:04

up, exposed to

20:06

the game, given them, giving them opportunities

20:08

and when you hit on one of these

20:10

players. Man, look look, Greg, you

20:12

look at I'm rewatching the

20:15

which I highly recommend sports

20:18

fans because we all watched it during the pandemic.

20:21

We're all kind of in a like

20:23

a drugged state in a way, some of us literally

20:25

some of it was just the whole thing. You remember twenty

20:27

twenty in a hazy manner, the last

20:30

dance, the Jordan doc rewatching.

20:31

With my sons.

20:32

It's a little salty language in parts, but overall

20:34

they're fascinated by this Jordan figure.

20:36

It's like Babe Ruth for these kids.

20:40

The dream Team opened the doors

20:42

for international play for the NBA. And

20:45

now, like, like you follow the NBA

20:47

closer than either Mark or I.

20:49

Like the percentage of like star players

20:52

in the NBA, what is it like thirty or forty

20:54

percent?

20:55

Or from overseas now or.

20:56

The last handful of MVPs? Yes, Jannis.

20:58

And then because I'm first team

21:01

NBA, Yes.

21:02

It's a totally different league now than it was thirty

21:04

years ago. Jordan Malatta is

21:06

the shining star of this

21:09

international movement. A left tackle at

21:11

the Eagles, drafted as a

21:13

seventh round pick, he didn't have really he had

21:16

very little experience with football, as a sport,

21:18

but had the tools, and then they got him

21:20

trained up and he learned the game and became

21:23

a dominant tackle at one of the game's

21:25

most important positions. So he

21:27

gets paid a extension

21:30

that is three years, sixty six

21:33

million dollars. He remained

21:35

a top level tackle last

21:37

season. He hasn't been greg

21:40

a scene by people who vote

21:42

for things. He's never been a pro bowler. That surprised me

21:45

through me never been an All Pro.

21:47

But anyone you talk to the Baldies

21:49

of the world say nothing but big time

21:52

positive things about my lotta So another no brainer

21:54

to keep.

21:55

In your building. A PFF star too, always in the

21:57

top five to six. What gives lots

21:59

of them? My lot of bias?

22:01

Maybe people were just like, we're giving too many

22:03

eagle offensive linemen on these

22:05

awards, because you know what, if it's a hotchedon bias

22:08

Kelsey and Lane Johnson and some Hank bias

22:10

have dominated it, you're right.

22:12

Sometimes offensive lineman people are a year

22:14

or two behind.

22:15

Now they're really behind on my lot of where they get

22:17

the Pro Bowls a little later than you expect.

22:19

Kelsey and Johnson, by the way, uh

22:22

starred at WrestleMania over the weekend

22:24

showed up. Kelsey was very

22:26

involved in a little attention. I mean, these guys, they got so

22:29

much talent. Jordan Mylotta is also

22:30

famously a great voice.

22:33

Uh you know, did a bang up job on the Kelsey

22:35

Christmas album and also a great

22:38

around the NFL guest remember that, Yeah.

22:40

Our super Bowl. He was legitimately a great guest.

22:42

In fact, I legitiate you should get him back

22:44

on the show. We should try his hand. I think Henry

22:46

can help us with that.

22:47

His hand was as big as any of our

22:49

computer screens. That's what I recall.

22:51

Most of your analysis today, Mark's just based on

22:53

the sheer size of the humans involved.

22:54

He was a stunny because like, you know, you get us

22:57

like and then you got like Derek. Henry came on that same

22:59

week, and my lot of it's just like, oh, these are

23:01

gigantic people and I don't want to I don't I'm done

23:03

with these groups.

23:05

When we when we do these remote

23:07

shows and we have the guests on, Mark

23:09

does not like to be next to the giant

23:11

player.

23:12

Typically it's I enjoyed meeting them

23:14

and stuff, but it's like that's that's not a winning photo

23:17

op in my opinion, where it's like, oh, you're four

23:19

feet shorter than this defensive.

23:20

Time, we should start photo shopping the photos and make you

23:22

taller than whoever's there.

23:24

Stupid, very Kyles Garrett was a

23:26

tough, tough scene for I couldn't even

23:28

speak that to you. That was I think he thought I was from

23:30

another part anyway.

23:31

I like this is why the Eagles stay good

23:33

though, as they get ahead of things on these contract Extentially,

23:35

they also paid Landon Dickerson this offseason. So

23:37

not only did they bring in a lot of people, and you think, okay,

23:40

Kelsey's retiring is

23:43

it got to be a big transition for this offensive line,

23:45

and they've planned ahead pretty well. They draft Cam Jurgens,

23:47

they have a third round pick Tyler Steen, who's ready to go. It's

23:49

like they just invest over and over and over. And that's why

23:51

for them, like a bad season is nine and seven or

23:53

falling apart late to go eleven and six, whereas

23:55

you know, for most teams, bad season is in

23:58

the New England Patriots, what happened to the life.

24:00

Yes, but the future of the tush push remains

24:02

enigmatic.

24:03

I love that.

24:06

How the Eagles stay good. The football

24:08

agna SCENTI, hey,

24:12

big guys. Ability to completely

24:15

washed the end of last season from memory is.

24:18

I just not a relative scale.

24:21

Their strategy was clearly pay

24:23

for linement. I agree with you the ball and that's worked

24:26

in the long run.

24:26

I agree with what you're saying overall. But

24:30

that was a historic meltdown.

24:33

Yeah.

24:33

I know when I listen, we're supposed

24:36

to now turn the page and everything's fine again.

24:38

But I still have questions. It has been pushed from

24:40

memory. It has been pushed from memory, I think

24:42

a little bit. And I'm with you because you still

24:44

have the same head coach, and people are talking about,

24:46

like, you know, the personality there in Dangel.

24:49

I don't like it.

24:50

That's why we need you, Dan to be the

24:52

truth teller from now until

24:54

week one that they're gonna stink.

24:56

I don't believe it did. Here's the thing.

24:59

I'm not even saying that, but it

25:01

seems as hey, something we've decided.

25:04

No, we've decided that that didn't happen anymore.

25:07

So if I have to be the person that say, like, oh,

25:09

the Eagles have done it again, Oh this is how

25:12

the goods stay good, and like oh man the

25:14

Eagles are killing to this offseason. Someone

25:16

has to say they also had one of the most

25:19

unbelievable collapses in recent NFL

25:21

history.

25:22

And they kept the coach and they kept the quarterback.

25:24

Don't they're running it back again.

25:25

I don't think it would be care to suggest that you're the only

25:28

go find didn't

25:31

melt down, Go.

25:32

Find it, Go find it anywhere

25:34

on the internet is.

25:35

I will I will take I will take a look

25:37

after the show.

25:37

You know who did it?

25:40

That Bradley Cooper with his

25:42

charm. He wiped it all him and Lurally

25:44

working together.

25:45

It was a tough It was a tough winter

25:47

for Cooper. The Eagles

25:50

fall apart in the same way that his his Oscar

25:52

hopes that movie.

25:53

Has there ever been a more like

25:56

bald faced attempt to win an Oscar?

25:59

Cooper, get back to what you're good

26:01

at. Get out of the luxury suite.

26:05

Stop. Did

26:07

anybody see that thing?

26:08

I watched it?

26:09

I was I think I mentioned

26:11

this on one of our like suggests

26:13

something that you've watched.

26:14

We're not giving you a trophy because you got a fake nose.

26:16

I openly could not stand it, but then

26:19

I thought about it a lot afterwards made

26:21

me think, and it was a very strange, but it was

26:23

it felt like Oscar bade to me, which

26:25

has worked for him in the past.

26:27

We know that much about him. Why

26:29

are we still talking about him?

26:30

I don't know. Did you guys talk about the

26:32

Jets getting a son Radick? That was a nice movie.

26:35

I thought we were very fair in our coverage of nice

26:37

and praise them.

26:39

I think it led the show nice all

26:41

right. Eight o'clock to light.

26:44

The Chiefs resigned Mike Danda to a big

26:46

deal. You know who else is? Clyde

26:49

Edwards, Claire Returns, I Greg,

26:51

I have to say coming

26:54

back is one of the more the

26:56

underdog tails of the first round.

26:58

Well, no one I thought there was no chance.

27:00

I don't think there was a lot of interest in him, and I

27:02

gotta say he did make some plays

27:04

in the stretch run and he only was given the ball like

27:06

three to five.

27:06

Did anyone ever seem more da

27:09

as a first round pick after like two years old,

27:11

when they were telling you to drop them first overall in

27:13

fantasy as a rookie. Took him a number eleven overall.

27:15

Anyway, the voters shoot down the stadium

27:18

bill. By the way, for the Royals and the Chiefs,

27:20

which tough, tough spot

27:23

for the Chiefs, who coming up back to back titles probably

27:25

thought they'd get that bump. They did not, so there's

27:27

a lot of uncertainty around that situation. He got blown

27:29

away too, like it wasn't close.

27:31

And I think it's tough for civic

27:33

groups of people to suggest they're going to pay for these things

27:35

at this point.

27:36

Man, it's old news now.

27:37

It used to be the way it was. Draft prospect DeAndre

27:39

Sweat gets a d WI. My

27:41

goodness, it made me think of Dak Prescott

27:44

getting a DWI two days after his pro

27:46

day.

27:46

He dropped down to the fourth round.

27:48

Let's see what happens with Sweat, who was supposed to be a first or second

27:50

rounder. The Culture assigned Julian Blackman,

27:52

the Dolphins sign tay R Tart and Kyle

27:54

Van Noy goes back to the Ravens.

27:56

Gregory three players that were in my

27:58

top one oh one and only three

28:00

left total in the top fifty.

28:04

Segue, Yeah,

28:08

up next, graveyards.

28:28

Grave beards. We're

28:32

gonna say the day day,

28:42

grave beards, just.

28:46

Give us one last say lest.

28:49

Say we're

28:56

here today, gone

28:58

tomorrow. Will you watch

29:01

or follow hitch

29:03

don't mean I cannot play

29:06

and you

29:10

will see me leave the way,

29:14

will.

29:16

Away?

29:17

Grave Bears never

29:19

go away, never go away,

29:22

never away, grave

29:25

bet never been away.

29:31

There goals my hero.

29:36

Watch him as he goes

29:45

there goals my rule.

29:50

He's over thirty.

29:55

The gray beards are back. We've

29:57

been doing this exercise how many years now?

29:59

Ten years? Sometimes about singing that

30:01

song? What a song?

30:02

It's getting better.

30:03

It's like the I'm what I'm hoping for

30:06

is the Mariah Carey Christmas

30:09

song bump where it just charts every year on

30:11

the same time.

30:12

Who is your greatest influence as a vocalist.

30:15

Dave Grohle, Maybe, but maybe

30:17

role adjacent. So let's go Pearl

30:19

Jam a little Eddie Better. I've gotten your one

30:22

of your favorite bands, the National have gotten

30:24

that in the past.

30:26

Well, I'm surprised you didn't bring greg in for

30:28

some sort of a singing role there, because Gregor

30:31

is a renowned now former singer.

30:33

That's true.

30:34

In fact, last year, I think you might have had the last

30:36

line, and I apologize for

30:38

taking that from you.

30:40

I think you've done

30:42

it the right way, and now I do think you

30:45

know now that I'm a member.

30:46

Of the organization. The controversy.

30:49

Okay, let's get into it that we've had over the last

30:51

year.

30:52

You know, the graybird Graybeards that

30:54

you know, many groups were saying you

30:57

should play that song and the national

30:59

land them at your games, and I say no,

31:02

this has replaced the national anthem

31:04

for the Graybeards.

31:06

This is their anthem.

31:07

Yes, you have said that before, and I'm glad

31:09

that you've said it again. This year is a real

31:12

tough one because, like I said at

31:15

the top of the show, teams have

31:17

been more aggressive and as a result, when

31:19

you look through the list

31:20

and you guys, like we

31:23

said earlier, change it up

31:25

this year.

31:25

I used to write this as an article on the site.

31:27

Now we're just talking it out as a

31:29

group and going through it, and we're going to land

31:32

on some things together. Perhaps if you guys,

31:34

maybe I could serve as a bit of a tiebreaker

31:36

in certain situations, but in general, I'd like

31:39

us to kind of build this team together. It's

31:41

not going to be easy because there's a

31:43

not a lot on the bone, not a lot of meat on

31:45

the bone. And I want to say one other thing before

31:47

we get going that

31:51

this has always been Yes, the players

31:53

from the Graybeards have to be turned

31:56

either over thirty or turning thirty before

31:58

the Super Bowl. Like the NFL,

32:01

the NFL makes changes to their product

32:04

every year, and I've been resistant to ever change

32:06

the gray Beard's process. But you have

32:08

to go with the times because

32:11

of the lack of options, because of the way

32:13

the NFL views skill position

32:15

players, especially

32:18

running backs, where thirty is basically

32:21

the retirement home. But that's not

32:23

necessarily what this is about. When they get

32:25

to that second contract around twenty eight,

32:27

I was thinking that's when running backs wide

32:30

receivers will throw tight ends in there as well.

32:33

So I'm changing the guidelines for

32:35

those three position groups. Or

32:38

I could just keep it to wide receivers and running backs.

32:41

Let's do that twenty eight at some point

32:43

in the season. It makes you a gray beard,

32:45

because that's really the way the league is now.

32:47

Greg, I don't think this is going to change

32:49

my picks much at all. To

32:53

me, it's just there aren't many free agents available,

32:55

whether they're twenty eight or not. I do think it's

32:57

gonna mess up how

33:00

the song goes that it'll

33:02

be interesting. They're over

33:04

thirty except for running back

33:06

and tight end with your twenty eight you're.

33:08

Gonna work on give me a chance. They'll work that lyrically

33:10

and find a melody to.

33:11

I think, also Verre, it's inclusive because

33:13

we've always had that friend in their twenties who suddenly

33:16

had white hair or you know, when they went pray

33:18

or white much earlier, and they probably feel not

33:20

part of society in some way.

33:21

And this says you are part of this operation.

33:23

I don't know who these twenty eight year olds are, so I'm

33:26

curious to you throw it.

33:26

It didn't change the list much

33:28

for me. Yeah, in terms of like an earthquake level.

33:31

And I'll just real quick because usually

33:33

I look back at the graybeards the year before,

33:36

and as I usually say before we get into it,

33:38

there are players that are available

33:41

now to any team that will play

33:43

a big role for teams in the

33:46

upcoming season. And that is true.

33:48

But I'm looking at last year's team and you

33:50

didn't see a lot of that.

33:51

So last year I'll just go real quick.

33:53

At quarterback, we had wentz in Bridgewater at

33:55

running back, McKinnon and Latavius

33:58

Murray. At wide receiver, Odell

34:00

Jarvis, Landry, Julio Jones, and

34:02

T Y Hilton at

34:04

tight end, Mercedes Lewis and Cameron Braidt.

34:08

You know, if you really want to know, the

34:10

lion was Donovan Smith, Roger staffle Ben

34:13

Jones, Gabe Jackson, and Taylor Lewan on

34:15

defense.

34:16

I'm really hurting David

34:18

Clowney not being a graveyard.

34:20

He has been a graveyard more than he's not been a

34:22

graveyard in his career. Last year was

34:24

Clowney, Leonard Floyd, Frank Clark, and Justin

34:26

Houston. I mean, these are name brands

34:29

that you're just not going to see in a lot of cases this

34:31

year. Somehow, Dominican

34:34

Sue was on our interior line. Last

34:36

year, Quintin Jefferson, Shelby, Harris Matthew,

34:39

Iinidis, Anthony Barr, Marcus

34:41

Goldman, John Bostick at linebacker. It feels

34:43

like some of these guys are already ancient history. They

34:46

never got that chance those graveyards. And then in

34:48

the secondary Marcus Peters, Bryce Callahan,

34:50

Byron Jones, William Jackson, Robbie

34:54

gold was the kicker. I retired Andy Lee

34:56

at punter. So that was last year's team. I didn't

34:58

hear a lot of guys that actually had big years from

35:00

that list. If you guys can throw any do

35:02

you hear any of there that.

35:03

Their names did in a big years?

35:05

Though Clowney had a good year, Oh clown one

35:07

of his best years. Yeah.

35:08

Donovan Smith, you know, started the Super Bowl at left

35:10

tackle, so that was an effect.

35:11

Soue did a lot of sky Sports covered.

35:13

The offensive line in the defensive line

35:16

was doable.

35:18

All right?

35:18

Wait, who was the quarterback? Lusher?

35:20

Quarterback was when let's start there?

35:22

So Wentzon Bridgewater. Joe Flacco

35:24

was out there. Isn't that crazy? He was out there,

35:26

was not even selected for a fake football

35:28

team. So let's start with the quarterback position this year

35:30

because it is not in a great spot.

35:33

Greggy, I think we all agree.

35:35

Ryan Tannehill, aged thirty

35:37

five, is a perfect

35:39

guy to slot in. First time gray Beard.

35:41

Yeah, so welcome to the team. But thank

35:44

god Tannehill didn't get signed in the last

35:46

week or so, because where are we going if Tannerhill

35:49

goes down. He's had injury issues.

35:50

You don't have to go to like Blaine Gabbert, Trump

35:52

or Simeons. So yes, there's a steep.

35:54

We do need to keep him healthy, you know, Teddy Bridgewater,

35:57

I think it's familiar with my appreciation

35:59

of him over the years. You know, he's

36:01

known as a leader, a coat.

36:03

He's becoming a high school coach. I would

36:06

be willing to offer him even more money than that

36:08

high school could possibly be given to bring him back,

36:10

to bring him back as a backup and coach.

36:12

Maybe he can.

36:13

I mean, he was starving interviews about it seems

36:15

like it's breaking the rules though, Like, here's.

36:17

The thing, Eddie's three years. We all love that Eddie.

36:19

But Teddy was given interviews into the

36:21

Detroit media in like early December

36:23

saying like how excited he was to leave the NFL.

36:26

It was like, dude, you're the backup quarterback.

36:28

I think he's going on to a different days

36:31

in his life. I kind of threw out Brian

36:33

Hoyer because he is a good locker room

36:35

okay, dude, but I mean he can't play anymore either.

36:37

It's very rough. We'll take coiir as the backup.

36:39

I think over do you have backups or are we just because

36:41

yeah, we all laid I believe in Tannehill.

36:43

I think he provides the right kind of spark for this

36:45

locked and loaded QB one.

36:47

Maybe one of the best qb ones we've had

36:49

in this exercise. Isn't it also crazy

36:51

that Blaine Gabbert is thirty

36:53

four years old?

36:54

Though well a lot of these names would

36:56

make all the three of us feel and he's been

36:58

much older than replaced by last year's Graybeard

37:00

Carson Wentz, So that might spell the

37:02

end of Gabbert's.

37:04

Although he was with the Chiefs and if Andy

37:07

Reid thought he was a sound

37:09

backup or a good option, should we perhaps

37:11

go with Blaine as the backup Bruce.

37:13

Arians The reason they wanted him there,

37:15

apparently was because Mahomes especially

37:17

was obsessed with Tom Brady and just wanted

37:19

like Tom Brady's backup to like, you

37:22

know, that was part do we want that?

37:24

I mean, there's worse. Do you guys think there's

37:26

worse reason? I'm a little worried to Tanna Hill.

37:28

That's a really weird explanation, but.

37:30

Well, it was part of it. They just thought, like you

37:32

know, he was around him for a couple of years.

37:34

They called Drew Bledsoe first, and they're like, Julie want

37:36

to be my backup this year?

37:38

So all right, should I put in Blaine? Tannehill

37:40

also had some rough rough moments last

37:43

year.

37:43

But yeah, behind a terrible offense, some

37:45

other.

37:45

Games where he looked looked better. All

37:48

right, let's put Gabbert. He's a handsome guy, too.

37:51

Very good looking.

37:51

He'll he'll pop in the team photo.

37:54

All right, running back. So this is where

37:56

again I had to make that a change

37:59

that it changes things because Ezekiel Elliott

38:01

is in his age twenty eight season, A

38:04

lot of rumors connecting him going back to DALLASA. It's

38:06

being floated out there by certain people. What

38:09

are you laughing about that? I

38:11

we could call this the Zeke rule if we want. Yeah,

38:14

it's funny that you changed the rule to get Zeke

38:16

on.

38:16

Although he does feel like a graveyard, and I think he literally

38:19

does have is a

38:21

g think he has some gray in it. I

38:24

I just assumed he was over thirty without decades.

38:27

So that's why I'm laughing. A lot of miles I wrote.

38:29

I wrote his name down without even check.

38:31

Yeah, we got that.

38:31

The original age boundary

38:34

clipped him, and it clipped guys like Kareem

38:36

Hunt, Dalvin Cook. But I guess now all

38:38

these people are back in the conversation.

38:40

It's funny because I had the same two guys we had a year

38:42

ago, Yes, Us Murray and Jarek

38:44

McKinnon.

38:45

I'm like, okay, let's get by with that. So I

38:47

had, I had, I said, Zeke and

38:49

Kareem Hunt, but we're gonna lose.

38:51

I think we're gonna seek in a couple of weeks. That's the one

38:53

problem here, right, No once you once, they're

38:56

Graybeard forever.

38:57

Okay, cool, that's an important distinction that I always

38:59

have to lay out there.

39:00

Okay, so you're saying you think that, but

39:02

you also listen.

39:03

All right, I'm gonna I'm gonna put up a stop

39:05

sign on Cream Hunt.

39:06

He looked woe for last year.

39:09

He also had his off field issues

39:12

for a fake team, we can keep current and

39:14

his three three yards per carry off

39:16

the list. He did not look like this Kaream Hunt.

39:18

To me a year ago, it looked like the he

39:21

might have suddenly kind of hit the cliff.

39:22

For I'm fine with that. We could let Kareem

39:25

walk.

39:25

I will say, just from because

39:27

you're being very analytical, and that's important.

39:29

Greg.

39:30

You're looking at it's not as West

39:32

always said, it's not just about the name, it's

39:34

the game.

39:35

Yeah, but we also put some we gotta put some meat in the

39:37

seats. Yeah, but kaream hunts. Now I'm

39:39

saying.

39:42

That I get that he's on the ticket. You know, he's on

39:44

the.

39:44

Meat in the seats like a lot of buttocks

39:47

in the in the in the chairs, like a lot

39:49

of sad Patriots fans.

39:50

I will defend the Zeke era in

39:53

New England that I'm sure people

39:55

weren't like. He's obviously

39:57

doesn't have the greatest explosiveness

40:00

ever now, but he was Okay, I think he's

40:02

just you think he's okay, he's

40:04

perfect for this team.

40:05

All right, So we're pairing Zeke with someone else though,

40:07

right, Yes, I would lobby for Jeric

40:09

McKinnon.

40:10

And okay, so Greg said that too, So let's let's

40:12

roll with that. Good and just I'm gonna and

40:15

these guys.

40:15

He can he can also tell us about what it's like to win

40:18

a Super Bowl that multiple times.

40:20

Well, that's true.

40:21

Here are some other options, so we said to Zeke, Boston,

40:23

Scott, Damien Harris just retired.

40:25

Cam Aker is not eligible.

40:27

He's only twenty four whoa uh

40:29

dare Agon Boalle Poor

40:32

JK. Dobbins is out there still, but just twenty

40:34

five Matt Brida is an option for us.

40:37

Rashad Penny is an option for us. He's

40:40

got to be under thirty as well.

40:42

He is.

40:42

I like what we've I like what we've cooked up here.

40:44

Tavius Murray is thirty four.

40:46

Otavius Murray has had a

40:48

strange career where he never seems to age

40:50

and always like is better than the younger people

40:52

around him.

40:54

But I like so.

40:55

Jeric makes the JJ Dobins by the way, as

40:57

a guy I would be intrigued about. As an NFL

40:59

team. I know he's I mean not serious injury,

41:02

but I think you'd be worth a shot.

41:03

All right, Wide receiver here we

41:05

go a lot of options. We're gonna lead

41:07

with someone who is a graveyard last year for the first

41:09

time and again meeting

41:12

the seats. You need somebody On the cover of the media guide

41:15

it is Odell Beckham Junior, once again leading

41:17

the wide receiver group. Anybody disagree that, well I

41:19

don't disagree, but according to

41:21

the rule that he's on, he's on, I would say, yes,

41:23

absolutely.

41:23

You want to sell the tickets. Children

41:26

and adults alike would be fascinated by the concept.

41:28

Uh, you know, he's linked very heavily to the dolphins

41:31

right now.

41:31

Would children it's been a long time

41:33

since the catch at the met Yes, sell, you could.

41:35

Sell it about you're not pretty and tod he

41:37

still sort of has a here's

41:41

with Odell right in the catch and there and

41:43

there's some highlights you can go back, but yeah, him

41:45

and Tannehill.

41:46

You know, it's it's a bigger picture of Odell.

41:49

It's like he's got the big face and then Tannahill's

41:51

maybe a second face.

41:53

That's the other way.

41:54

I think that's the cover of your guide because that's a real

41:57

quarterback.

41:57

People know.

41:58

But in the eighties they

42:00

would do the family pictures were to be

42:02

the profile the child's head and

42:05

then the pose of them together, like holding blocks.

42:07

I do that with like people in their cats, Like there's a

42:09

second circle where the cat is looking in a different

42:11

direction.

42:11

We got big funk behind the glass. Who you know.

42:14

The stuff this guy can do in

42:16

the edit is remarkable.

42:18

It's phoen I thought you're gonna talk about his cats, because there's

42:21

not an animal that Randy

42:23

Shaves is not taken care of in

42:25

the entire animal planet.

42:26

I'm not talking about cats, but we

42:28

can have a separate save it for the Feline podcast,

42:31

Randy, if you know, and we'll talk about it off

42:33

off Mike, But we want the old

42:36

nineteen eighty three perspective

42:38

shot. And then that's kind

42:40

of in the distance. Maybe it's a little phased

42:43

out a little bit like it's not as clear, and

42:46

then in the foreground it's

42:48

some type of like action shot something like that.

42:50

Okay, okay, good anyway.

42:52

Odell, I'm gonna throw out

42:55

Tyler Boyd, who's uh twenty

42:57

nine years old.

42:58

You guys think about Tyler Boyd.

43:00

Well, I think this rule is you know, I don't know

43:02

why this rule exists if we don't use it

43:04

to get the younger player that still has upside.

43:06

I thought he turns. He turns thirty

43:08

during the season, so you don't even need the rules. Good either

43:10

way, solid, you know

43:13

this rule. Maybe coming off his worst

43:15

year, but he still had six hundred and sixty

43:17

seven yards in that year. He just seemed like maybe the

43:19

contract situation was bothering. He did some

43:21

mental error, some drops. Well we don't

43:23

love that though, but a nice slot receiver. I

43:26

mean he's I think this is our strongest position

43:28

group on the teams.

43:30

Upside.

43:30

I like that here, and I think we got to add

43:32

a little spice to this. I

43:35

think we got to bring in Michael Thomas.

43:36

It's time. I haven't come home

43:38

to the graveyard a little bit of a locker room lawyer. We

43:41

want a locker room lawyer in the building.

43:43

It's a fresh start, though, And there

43:46

is this like what if he stays healthy and he doesn't

43:48

have this eighteen by.

43:49

Guy's not looking too bad by the way. No, we have a guy

43:51

that has the catch record. We have Zeke

43:54

was one of the most famous, uh you know

43:56

NFL players of the previous decade.

43:58

Yeah, we have of Ryan

44:01

Tannehill carried to multiple episodes

44:03

of Hard Knocks.

44:04

That's true.

44:05

And also when you get Ryan Tannehill, you get Lauren

44:07

Tannehill as well.

44:08

You do, yep.

44:09

I would say for especially for you know,

44:11

fans that have been in a coma for two and a half three years,

44:14

like this looks like an I.

44:16

Would push back in terms of the locker room lawyer

44:18

aspect, but I think

44:21

we're looking forward to

44:24

social media is key. If things

44:26

go wrong, he'll keep like all attention

44:28

is good attention, And I think Michael Thomas

44:30

will keep us in the news right.

44:31

I don't like that Saints element bringing it into

44:33

my building. But I understand Thomas is

44:36

someone that you want to bank on, maybe giving you

44:38

a little and he's got he's got it. He's a name

44:40

brand. So I'm with you. I'm just a little

44:42

worried about it. We just lean into the markets. We

44:44

need a strong base in terms

44:46

of leadership, all right.

44:49

I also I'm going to add a fourth receiver

44:51

here. I know Thomas we're gonna put in the slot,

44:54

but I also like Hunter Renfro in the

44:56

slot here.

44:57

Well, you now you're using the age rule

44:59

for what reason? What do you mean although he

45:01

has been balding for a long time, he's

45:04

older than you take like he's just.

45:06

His hairline was hurting on hard knocks as a rookie.

45:08

So yes, he he'll he'll fit in, uh visibly.

45:11

But also I know you

45:13

you waged a war against Renfro early

45:15

in his career, Greg, and then

45:17

he fell out of favor with the Raiders

45:20

that felt like the last couple of years. But he's still

45:22

just this is his age twenty eight season. I

45:25

want to I'm gonna put him up. Is there someone else

45:27

that you guys are I want MVS.

45:30

On this team.

45:30

I think we got the slot handled with Boy

45:33

and Thomas.

45:33

I want some speed.

45:34

It's pretty rare to have a graybeard

45:37

with some deep speed. He's quiet

45:39

all season, but in the non

45:42

existent playoffs that the Graybeards have never

45:44

made team, he always he comes up big

45:46

in the playoffs.

45:47

Vs. What do you think?

45:48

Very frustrating player.

45:50

But that's not going to be on like three quarters

45:52

of our roster, so that fits right in.

45:54

You m VS.

45:55

Over Renfro for you.

45:58

I thought Renfro was already in it. We're picking our one.

46:01

We have Odell there, but

46:03

Michael Sterley Shepherd. I don't know, like

46:06

that gets ugly Markus Goodman,

46:08

I'll go MVS.

46:08

I just want to I'm okay with that. You know who

46:11

actually had this.

46:11

I think it was the second highest percentage

46:13

of snaps of any available wide

46:16

receiver free agent that was

46:18

over thirty was Alan Robinson. I was like, Wow, Alan

46:20

Robinson played a lot for the Steelers last year,

46:22

but I do not feel

46:24

like bringing in Alan.

46:26

Alan Robinson is not on this team. He can't

46:28

and Julio Jones caught a pass in

46:30

the playoffs last year.

46:31

Do you remember that thirty five years old for the Philadelphia

46:33

Eagles. Yeah, it's the thing that happened. Yeah,

46:36

he was a graveyard last year. Randall

46:39

Cobb is out there. You know who else is out

46:41

there now? Not Graybeard

46:44

eligible even under the Zeke rule.

46:46

But Chase Claypool is

46:49

not employed anymore, and

46:51

I don't know if he's going to get employed anytime soon.

46:53

Like he might be in the whatever what's

46:55

the you know for COCTA Spring League called it now ufl

46:58

like he might have to go re established the brand

47:00

at this point.

47:01

And to think that the Bears surrendered

47:04

his second round pick for him two years

47:06

ago, it's crazy.

47:07

That gets washed away in the current

47:09

hype.

47:10

I went to confirm that Julio Jones

47:12

caught a pass. He cut three passes in the

47:14

playoffs. Hell, yeah, you're wondering how

47:16

far that Egos offense fell.

47:19

All right, do we have to take a break where we're due for

47:21

beggar. Let's take a break and then we'll get

47:23

through the rest of the graveyards roster. Right,

47:32

So so far, so good,

47:34

I have to say. I mean, when you look at the offense,

47:36

now, let's it's let's get to tight end. There's

47:40

there are some options here. The

47:43

one that kind of jumps out to me is Logan Thomas,

47:46

thirty two years old with yepj

47:48

Ozama is coming up a bad knee injury.

47:52

He is on the market, Bobby Tanian's out

47:54

there.

47:54

How do the real health situations factor

47:56

into this?

47:57

They factor in? Okay?

47:59

Well, I love Logan

48:01

Thomas as an option, been productive

48:04

throughout his career.

48:05

Do we want Jimmy grahmm on that media man an injury?

48:07

I you know, we keep bringing back Marcedes

48:09

Lewis, and so does the NFL. He's now forty to

48:12

have a forty year old gray beard, pretty cool, pretty

48:14

exciting.

48:15

I I yeah, i'd Lewis. We can

48:17

put him on the coaching stuff, not with Jimmy Graham.

48:19

I think Jimmy Graham is better for the for the

48:21

media guide.

48:23

Does Jimmy Graham put me in the seats? I don't know at

48:25

this stage.

48:25

He did release a

48:28

He had an Instagram post

48:31

a few weeks ago that seemed

48:33

to sound retirement ish.

48:36

Uh, just kind of like, hey, the end of

48:38

the season was quick, didn't didn't get a chance

48:40

to thank everyone for like a

48:42

fun year in New Orleans. I

48:45

think Logan Thomas and I like Marcedes Lewis

48:47

as their backup, just like Kee.

48:49

Is he turning forty this year?

48:50

He's forty. Yeah,

48:52

that's specialist. I think that that that has a

48:54

nice get something pieces and some nice It.

48:56

Was literally drafted with Grace

48:58

Jones Drew. No mj D is

49:01

always talking about him. He mj D says

49:03

he's still a player in the league. It's it's cute,

49:06

let's see, let's see kicker. Uh

49:10

man.

49:11

I really wish I could put Robbie Gould down here, but I think

49:13

he retired, didn't he.

49:14

I don't think he fits for this like he did if someone didn't

49:16

even this last year.

49:18

But as he filed his paperwork, I'm just

49:20

asking questions as one must.

49:22

I'm sure he did. I think we talked about it. I think you're

49:24

right. Big Boned Randy

49:26

is out there.

49:27

Oh yeah, a special

49:30

We have a special bond.

49:31

With Big Bone. Yeah.

49:32

I don't like him as a kicker well

49:35

and his zaft take figure. I like, I

49:38

relate to it. I feel like it's something he battles.

49:41

But he also has now been kicking for about

49:43

ten years. He's getting the full pension and this

49:45

is a way to say you've battled through

49:47

a lot of adversity, Come on

49:49

in.

49:50

Like your other options are, like what Brett maher like, I'm

49:52

going I'm with you, like fat, Randy's been an art or Randy.

49:54

Pulletsho whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

49:56

That's what the nickname was.

49:58

I didn't exact that day on our

50:00

show.

50:00

To be fair, he's slimmed down. He's gone

50:03

up and down over the years.

50:04

Now that I'll have to see him in the hallways, you know, inside

50:06

the team complex. That would probably shy away from

50:08

calling him though.

50:09

It's also a connection to Chris Chris

50:12

Westling. I feel

50:14

like he had a lot of opinions about Randy Bullock

50:16

back in the day.

50:17

Oh yeah, he got a kick out of his figure.

50:19

Yeah he's rubenesque, and that just

50:21

I like, yeah, I like that.

50:22

That's good.

50:23

I think it's important for our team

50:26

to embrace all body types as well. It's a good

50:28

message. Body inclusive is a big thing now,

50:31

So welcome Randy. All right, punter,

50:34

punter, punter.

50:36

I don't know about you, guys. I was like literally looking for

50:38

punters. There is not a point

50:40

to search stops.

50:41

As far as I can tell, there is not a

50:43

punter who punted the ball in

50:45

the NFL last year. That

50:47

is a free agent that is over

50:49

thirty. Yeah, but how about this we I did.

50:51

We don't punt. We don't punt. That's a that's

50:53

you could get fans involved with that one. I could

50:55

be like searching it wrong, but I don't think

50:58

so. I don't think there is an available.

51:00

I have an idea had a punt.

51:01

Presley Harvin again, body

51:04

diversity inclusive, but he's quite young.

51:07

The Steelers cut him.

51:08

If you go to open the cap

51:10

all these sights now, don't enlist one of these.

51:12

There is not a punch I'll thrown out there. Sewn

51:14

Lindetta.

51:15

Okay, what did I literally write on my screen?

51:18

Sean Lenarretta, who's sixty two? Okay,

51:21

lets Dan, that's how legends

51:23

are made when you're team building. We both

51:26

have, Shawn.

51:28

Is why I was pointing out to Mark last week

51:30

that it was tough for him when Dan's out of

51:32

the out of the state.

51:34

Shawn Lendetta, sixty two.

51:35

We both thought of Sean Lindetta.

51:38

Somewhere, Poppy is smiling on the brown couch,

51:40

drinking his root beer, not talking to me. All

51:43

right, Shawn Lendetta. Welcome to

51:45

the gray Beard's. Hopefully

51:47

he's staying in shape. All right, offensive line.

51:50

We'll keep an eye on the waiver wire in

51:52

case anyone loses a job in camp elsewhere.

51:54

I'm gonna throw out just what I put

51:56

it projected the line, and if you guys want to replace

51:58

anyone, I'm totally open to it. Right tackle

52:00

Billy Turner, right guard, Cody Whitehair,

52:03

center, Connor Williams, left guard d J.

52:05

Fluker and bringing in David

52:08

Back is a perfect gray Beard at

52:10

left tackle.

52:11

I had back Ti Connor

52:14

Williams as well.

52:15

Well. Connor Williams is like twenty seven.

52:17

Yeah, I know that's why.

52:17

Well young

52:20

Oh okay, get okay, get rid of Connor. Yeah he's

52:22

got he's twenty six, he said.

52:24

I thought he was.

52:25

Oh, I'm thinking another hold on. There's multiple Connor

52:27

McGovern. Connor McGovern is only thirty

52:29

and offensive

52:32

line for the New York Jets in the last three years.

52:34

Because I actually had Lake and Tomlinson maybe

52:36

as one of my guards, the tackle position might

52:39

be the best on the roster. I take

52:41

it back from the receiver. Andrews. Pete played

52:44

quite well late last season at left

52:46

tackle for the st typically

52:48

a guard, but typically a guard, so you could play

52:50

him at guard or tackle. But I'm a little surprised he's

52:52

still out there. And then Donovan Smith, I mean he wasn't

52:54

lighting it up, but he did, you know, start for the Super

52:57

Bowl Champs and most of the season for the he

52:59

stepped in for it. He was okay, No, he was there

53:01

all year. Oh yeah, right right, I'm thinking of the right tackle.

53:03

Yeah, he left, he was injured, and then

53:05

he came back. Uh so, who did

53:07

you have it as your left tackle before? I had good

53:10

though, I like, yeah, I think he's that's he's

53:13

putting.

53:13

The people are like they

53:16

want to know what's next in his journey.

53:17

I think it's the draft that's keeping these

53:19

guys out there because compared to other positions,

53:23

I was like a number Charles Leno is another

53:25

one. I was like a number of these guys could actually play

53:27

meaningful NFL snaps in the fall, and

53:29

I don't see that at many positions. We want to where there is

53:32

like five or six tackles, do we.

53:33

Want to kick down Ivan Smith to right tackle.

53:35

I think it's that it's that type of versatility

53:38

that we'll look at who we put

53:40

in the pivot.

53:42

I guess BOCKERI but he hasn't stayed healthy too

53:44

often, you know, bro the pivot center.

53:46

I think Connor McGovern.

53:48

You got to get in the term terminology if you're going

53:50

to be a true front office head.

53:51

Connor McGovern was thirty third

53:54

ranks the pivot.

53:55

I wasn't listening as pussy as I should

53:57

have.

53:58

Lucas Patrick.

53:59

One of my favorite it like tropes of people

54:01

talking ball like about the pivot.

54:03

Who's in the pivot? Okay, let's put Pete

54:05

in at guard? All right?

54:07

We got Bachtiari and Donovan

54:09

Smith attack on yehs going all.

54:11

Right, so we'll put Andrews Pete. These guys.

54:15

You had, I like that, Cody at right guard, and then

54:17

who's in the pivot? There weren't

54:19

many.

54:20

I think Connor mccovern, all right, he's thirty

54:22

years old.

54:22

Again, Lucas Patrick, I looked at a

54:24

man Tyler Shatley just for

54:27

the name is we clearly were the.

54:29

Quarterback is going to be shatleeing his pants

54:31

when we

54:33

were sifting through the same software.

54:35

Yeah, justin Pugh as a man who

54:39

had some social media

54:42

excitement last year, Giants when he said he was straight

54:44

off the couch. Uh as the as

54:46

the team that he played for on Sunday Night

54:48

football, I believe.

54:50

So that was exciting.

54:51

All right, let's move off the line before people fall asleep.

54:53

All right, how about the defensive

54:55

line? Okay, who are putting on the edge?

54:58

Okay, I'm excited to get Jerry use on the team

55:00

we played three, four or fourth.

55:03

I would say, we are you could

55:05

you could go four to three here if you want to get four.

55:08

I think so too. Emmanuel Ogba's still out

55:10

there. Yeah, I think Jerry Hughes mayort

55:12

uh Emmanuel Agba. But Dupre

55:15

was in a weird system.

55:17

You know.

55:17

Our friend Henry Hodson pushed back on

55:19

me a little bit that I had Agba in our in my

55:21

top one oh one when when Xavi and Howard wasn't

55:24

there.

55:24

Mm hmm.

55:24

I'm just like Agba always used to be good and then he didn't

55:26

really fit in the fan geo scheme. Maybe maybe

55:29

Melvin Ingram's never disappointed when he signs

55:31

with the team halfway through the season. Justin Houston

55:34

somehow unique last year, somehow

55:37

unique andwa is not old enough to qualify

55:39

still yet he's been in the NFL for seventy

55:41

three seasons.

55:42

But who's putting their hand in the dirt? Well,

55:46

both the dressers. Yeah, I'm trying

55:48

to use terminal. Who are

55:50

the d tackles?

55:51

Uh Klais Campbell?

55:53

Yeah, oh that's a great one thirty

55:55

eight.

55:56

Uh oh, that will leave you concerns about Michael

55:58

Thomas because Campbell will keep that.

56:00

He'll keep it, He'll keep them in.

56:01

Well.

56:01

I think we haven't gotten to our coaching staff, but there's

56:03

some pretty good names available.

56:05

But I think could really

56:08

keep the discipline on. Did retire?

56:11

He's a British

56:13

tell he did not get a job this year.

56:15

So is he still hanging spending summers with Leaca

56:18

on the plant? Lawrence

56:20

guy who.

56:23

Famously made the All Decades team for

56:25

the Patriots in the twenty ten.

56:27

Somehow, William Goldston

56:29

is out there, Jordan Phillips.

56:31

I'm gonna go Campbell and Guy as my picks

56:33

at defensive tackle.

56:34

But uh, it's not a strong group. Yeah,

56:37

I didn't have a lot of listener.

56:38

I think Campbell Campbell will help up the weakness

56:40

of the other A linebackers.

56:45

Anthony Barr. Barr was there last

56:47

year, you've.

56:49

Got Zach Cunningham came in

56:51

and played some snaps, Kwan Alexander.

56:53

It's not a strong like Kwan

56:55

there positioned Nick Vigil.

56:57

It's a bunch of guys who keep getting signed

56:59

like late in the mix, and they

57:01

fill in it. I think the linebackers

57:04

making a comeback in the NFL of

57:06

teams realizing that they're important,

57:08

and the lack of lack of names

57:10

available might spell that out here.

57:12

All right, So let's go Bar Alexander and what

57:14

gives one more Cunningham Cunnyham.

57:17

Jack Leonard is too young for this. He's

57:19

not with Italy though.

57:20

I've lost many many

57:23

Chack Leonard's not turned twenty eighth this year. Well

57:27

we're doing this with Well, you're right, right, yeah,

57:29

I take that back, right, you're right, all

57:32

right. This is where I've lost many seasons.

57:34

Is in the secondary we are too Solon. I don't

57:36

hate this group.

57:37

It's ironic.

57:37

Whereas that, you know, I think I keep saying

57:40

it now, this is the strength of our team. I think

57:42

the secondary is how could

57:44

that be? How could there be why

57:46

impact makers in?

57:47

It could be draft related to But there's a

57:49

couple of guys and they're like thirty thirty one, Like you

57:52

got Stephan Gilmour's out there.

57:54

Gilmour and Steven Nelson are two

57:57

guys who play. You know, Steven Nelson was a

57:59

lower level but played starting

58:01

cornerback at a pretty high level last year.

58:03

I love Gilmore, Savi, you and Howard. Oh

58:07

that's you need three corners right? Oh yeah,

58:09

okay, who's who were playing in the slot. Well,

58:12

they're also experienced that we can. We can put

58:15

Howard in three all sorts of strategic chaos

58:17

for the We.

58:17

Put Gilmour on an island and say good luck one more

58:19

year. Yeah more riot Son, Yeah,

58:22

just leave.

58:23

On an island.

58:23

These are some reasonable players. Though, by the way, Doy

58:25

Jackson does not qualify, but he's a reason.

58:27

Whenever we could leave a thirty two year old cornerback on

58:29

an island, gotta do it sixty minutes in today's

58:32

there.

58:32

But you know what I'm I want to play a lot of zone

58:34

because, you know, because of their age, and also

58:36

because we've got good safeties.

58:38

The safety position that's always flushed

58:40

in this exercise.

58:41

Justin Simmons

58:43

is like Gilmore's thirty three, a recent

58:45

All Pro.

58:46

Justin Simmons.

58:47

Gilmore's turning thirty four in September

58:49

by week two, Okay, but he was playing well all right,

58:51

Yeah, we're definitely playing zone.

58:54

It's still quality player and I mean lucky other

58:56

was It's the NFL or wherever we play in

58:58

twenty twenty four, we got to be they're gonna mix it up.

59:00

I got to mix it a mix up. Yeah, the scheme

59:02

is fluid. It's not the

59:04

old days schemes fluid. Don't

59:07

try to put us in a box.

59:08

If they get if they join a team

59:10

in real life and get hurt in real life.

59:15

Tell me this safety group isn't better than some NFL

59:17

teams. Justin Simmons, Quandary Diggs,

59:20

jay Ron Curse, and either

59:23

Micah Hyde or to Shaan Gibson might

59:25

be retiring.

59:26

So that how many how many roster

59:28

spots we have for safety? I don't know. I

59:30

just usually do too.

59:32

Let's go three because we're gonna play where

59:34

again, we're trying to we're mixing a match and we're playing

59:36

a three safety defense.

59:38

Sometimes linebackers

59:40

are so bad. I want to play one line back.

59:43

We play four to one, right

59:45

six, We're gonna do a little sneaky, get a twelve

59:47

on the field move thatches

59:49

it.

59:50

I just think I I want to play. We don't have a

59:52

lot of speed. Quandary.

59:54

Yeah, there, that usually

59:56

works.

59:57

We don't have a lot of speed. I

59:59

just want to p vent the big play. I'm going to play

1:00:01

six defensive backs at all time, six dbs.

1:00:03

Yeah, and just like let

1:00:06

them complete five office.

1:00:09

Yeah, it's like eighteen yard screen pass after

1:00:11

twenty yard screen passes?

1:00:12

Are there guys that are? We're in my one oh one or

1:00:14

close? Who who's our third? Eggs

1:00:17

Simmons Diggs And let's go j run curse?

1:00:19

All right? Good player? All

1:00:22

right? Uh, head coach, there's

1:00:25

only one choice. Go ahead. I

1:00:28

mean it's writ in a book right now.

1:00:30

He was wearing a University

1:00:32

of Washington or is it Washington

1:00:35

University sweatshirt this weekend

1:00:37

giving people in the Pacific Northwest just

1:00:40

the fields, I think because he was with his son

1:00:42

Steve Belichick out of Washington coaches

1:00:44

Clinic.

1:00:44

Did you watch the game on Monday? Bill

1:00:48

Belichick is our head coach? Hell? Yeah

1:00:50

that is.

1:00:51

And I know that that doesn't

1:00:53

mean a lot in the modern league anymore. But

1:00:55

for the graybeards, There's never been a

1:00:57

more perfect synergy of

1:00:59

a man who's been counted out because

1:01:02

of his age. I don't tell

1:01:04

me anything else. Belichick is the

1:01:06

bell of the ball. If he's sixty two instead

1:01:08

of seventy two. He has been

1:01:10

counted out because people say the game

1:01:12

is passed him by.

1:01:13

The Gray Beards are here to prove.

1:01:15

Yeah.

1:01:15

It's like when we talk about

1:01:18

like a violent Kude Todd in terms of

1:01:20

hiring cycle, this would be it because

1:01:23

this is someone who could go break

1:01:25

down Shoul's record as the coach of the Gray

1:01:27

Beards and that'd be good.

1:01:29

That's pretty good.

1:01:30

And I'm gonna say these two

1:01:33

men, although they seem like they wouldn't be a

1:01:35

good fit, they have actually, if I'm not mistaken,

1:01:40

been on the same staff together. It

1:01:42

is men who famously said he didn't come

1:01:44

to kiss Bill Belichick's rings. But

1:01:47

I kind of like pairing Bill with Rex Ryan

1:01:49

and oh wow, the rexes

1:01:52

DC. Bill's the head coach. It's

1:01:54

Bill's defense obviously, but it's a Rex there.

1:01:57

You know, Rex famously cooked up Bill in

1:01:59

the twenty ten AFC Divisional playoffs.

1:02:01

They they can work together and make

1:02:04

magic.

1:02:04

I mean, you talk about that that, you know, the team

1:02:06

programs and stuff. We've got Rex Ryan and Bill

1:02:09

Belichick joining forces.

1:02:11

Was he on the Patriots Steph and Rob

1:02:13

Ryan? Rob Ryan? Rex? Never? Oh not Rex?

1:02:16

He was.

1:02:17

Yeah, okay, so

1:02:20

maybe Bill might veto that. But and I'm

1:02:23

I'm going to do what other people, UH

1:02:25

were unwilling to do. I'm gonna give Bill the final

1:02:27

call. Like a Bill isn't comfortable with that.

1:02:29

Yeah, I thought you were going somewhere else with this, And I

1:02:31

kind of like the idea of First of all, this is

1:02:33

the roster Bills always wanted. Just a bunch of

1:02:36

hard, nos intelligent players, old bunch

1:02:39

smart.

1:02:39

A bunch of progress stoppers. He likes that in the NFL,

1:02:42

He's gonna like it.

1:02:42

On the behaviors, I think, you know,

1:02:44

give a little sugar with all the

1:02:47

the sourness that Bill gives you, and bring in Pete

1:02:49

Carroll.

1:02:50

Those are two two of the greatest defenses.

1:02:52

Oh that's a good call, you know, just

1:02:54

to pump everyone up.

1:02:57

Only have two coaches, we get multiple coaches.

1:03:00

I think I think that's the play. As

1:03:02

much as I love Rex, I think Bill,

1:03:04

who Bill replaced Carol, didn't

1:03:07

he once upon a time in New England he.

1:03:08

Did, and that that was an agism type thing to

1:03:10

the Pete Carroll thing exactly.

1:03:12

So I think he's a perfect fit. So DC, Carol

1:03:14

head coach Bill, I think we got to give

1:03:16

Frank Signetty another chance. I don't see.

1:03:19

I think Frank deserves hold Frank gotta

1:03:21

be over.

1:03:22

What fifty six?

1:03:23

I think hold ons? Okay,

1:03:26

let's see Frank. How old is Frank is?

1:03:28

Yeah, he's turning fifty eight,

1:03:30

fifty eight, So yeah, let's get him

1:03:32

because he got bounced by the pitt Panthers.

1:03:35

Right, and that never face.

1:03:36

They said he wasn't good enough, probably like

1:03:38

looking back, probably agism,

1:03:40

I think so. And of course Special Teams

1:03:42

coach always and forever Mike west Off,

1:03:45

who ooh he trashed No, he didn't trash

1:03:47

Belichick. He he was on our show and was annoyed

1:03:49

that we were asking him like questions. He didn't want to talk about.

1:03:52

West Off tresh parcels

1:03:55

in his book, which Belichick's gonna love. So

1:03:57

they're going to and they once upon it. I'm

1:04:00

coached together on the Jets. So this

1:04:03

is an incredible staff. Belichick, Carol

1:04:05

west Off, Signetti, let's go.

1:04:07

And I just just to get

1:04:09

the gang back together, because you don't hear about him much

1:04:12

lately. Let's bring in Charlie

1:04:14

white as like a consultant.

1:04:15

Get him in.

1:04:17

Charlie consultant, good times, hard

1:04:19

to forget Tom Brady.

1:04:20

Get him in the building. Not that old, actually sixty

1:04:23

eight years old.

1:04:23

Charlie white Son is the offensive

1:04:26

coordinator for I'm just gonna put in Jane Kiffin's

1:04:28

old miss team.

1:04:29

How about that, He's gonna put in captions here. Get

1:04:31

him in the building. The

1:04:34

coaching staff really changes.

1:04:35

It's my opinion on this team

1:04:38

because before we learned I

1:04:40

learned about the coaching staff or thought about it, I

1:04:43

was going to predict ohen seventeen. I

1:04:45

did not think this team was winning a ball game,

1:04:47

not a single game.

1:04:48

You're telling me can't get hot and the defense

1:04:51

defense can't get some.

1:04:52

Did they go a year ago? What was the I

1:04:55

predicted six and eleven and they went four and third.

1:04:57

They won four games with Carson Wentz.

1:04:59

I believe I put it predicted that they're gonna win one

1:05:01

in sixteen or two and fifteen last year. This

1:05:04

team seems worse, But

1:05:06

actually after talking through it, it's a

1:05:08

little better.

1:05:09

Than I thought.

1:05:10

I think five and twelve.

1:05:11

We gotta keep Tannahill.

1:05:12

Healthy no matter what, and we got we got to keep

1:05:14

Wiy's health healthy as well.

1:05:18

Yeah, I'm

1:05:20

gonna I'm gonna put with this coaching staff and the chips

1:05:23

on the shoulders, I'm gonna put.

1:05:25

I'm gonna predict nine and eight that

1:05:27

is out.

1:05:28

That is insane.

1:05:29

Uh, because of the coaching staff. I think

1:05:32

you put it in an average coaching staff, i'd be Owen

1:05:34

seventeen.

1:05:35

I think Bill coaches this. That's so messed up. How

1:05:37

many does a great jobs got through all these position.

1:05:40

Groups saying oh, this is a great group, this is a really good

1:05:42

group, and we're not gonna steal a win

1:05:44

with the basic coaching staff like that, I think.

1:05:47

Well, there's just a couple of positioned groups that

1:05:49

betrays the very nature the exercise.

1:05:51

Greg, we're not nihilis here with the gray beards,

1:05:53

like we believe in these trying.

1:05:55

To be realistic.

1:05:56

It's I'd say it's maybe the best secondary

1:05:58

the gray Beards. Yeah, I've ever had and that was

1:06:00

killing them.

1:06:01

It's a great secondary. Few years ago, I don't

1:06:03

know where we're getting pressure. I think they're picking on

1:06:05

our linebackers. The

1:06:07

protection we'll see. But if they can't

1:06:09

keep Tannehill healthy for.

1:06:11

Trumble, that is everything starts there, Lily

1:06:14

at Zeke twenty seven, we haven't had a consistent

1:06:16

pass rusher, by the way since John Abraham.

1:06:19

No, sorry, all right,

1:06:21

because of the coaching staff.

1:06:23

I think it's it's a magical season

1:06:25

and they coach them up to six wins and it's.

1:06:28

They Actually he gets Coach of the Year votes

1:06:30

getting those six team of eighten.

1:06:34

I do that today. All

1:06:36

right, there you go.

1:06:37

That is the the Graybeards

1:06:39

of twenty twenty four. Geez,

1:06:43

Tannehill ice that ankle, bud

1:06:45

ice them both getting the hyperback

1:06:47

chamber until training camp. That

1:06:51

that's what we need health at the QB position.

1:06:53

And I think we can steal. We

1:06:55

could steal a lot of wins. All right, We'll take

1:06:57

a break and then we'll close things out.

1:07:02

I'll beg I'm so

1:07:05

hungry.

1:07:07

We need your help. We

1:07:09

need this. Come

1:07:11

on, Greg, we

1:07:16

are in the future. Would

1:07:19

you be my dad? We

1:07:23

need your help, Greg?

1:07:26

Can I trust you?

1:07:28

Hey, Jag, we

1:07:32

must listen to Dela Whale do

1:07:35

it for us.

1:07:40

We need your help.

1:07:41

Greg.

1:07:44

We look, Deela Whale.

1:07:47

We we need to listen to Deli Whale.

1:07:50

It's up to you.

1:07:52

Wow, first of all, adorable.

1:07:55

Yeah, those are all of our children.

1:08:00

I think it was Walker. No, my kids. Your

1:08:02

kids were not involved. I texted

1:08:04

your wife. She didn't reply.

1:08:06

I believe mine were of it.

1:08:07

I don't.

1:08:07

I'm not certain about that.

1:08:08

No, Oh, you didn't hear I heard Luke and Colton

1:08:11

in there.

1:08:11

I went in thinking it was just your too, so I'd

1:08:13

have to listen again. Really, yeah, but I

1:08:15

was also a long that was a long time ago. So there's

1:08:18

their voices have changed. Many years have passed,

1:08:25

Many years have passed since Greg.

1:08:28

We first have asked about the tapes, the

1:08:30

Delaware tape, and

1:08:33

it's this is not by the way, this isn't an ambush, so don't

1:08:35

worry.

1:08:35

But developing news. I

1:08:39

don't know when

1:08:41

you went away on vacation.

1:08:42

Yeah, there may

1:08:44

have been some conversation

1:08:49

about reopening the investigation for the tapes.

1:08:52

Okay, and

1:08:54

I want to tell you that we are in possession

1:08:56

of the tapes.

1:08:57

Now, wow, that is an ambush.

1:09:00

But I'm not playing the tapes and I

1:09:02

haven't listened to them either. Well, you're going

1:09:04

to be disappointed, but

1:09:06

I have the tapes we read.

1:09:08

We put a call.

1:09:09

Out, Yeah, call to arms. People responded,

1:09:11

call the arms.

1:09:12

I don't want to give up my source here, but

1:09:16

we're in possession of the tapes now.

1:09:17

I want to just cycle back. Greg.

1:09:19

I want you to think about this, because I know your first instinct

1:09:21

is going to say, if

1:09:24

you they stay in the vault, we never

1:09:26

hear them. But those children

1:09:28

that you heard better for the bit. Those

1:09:31

children that you heard were

1:09:34

begging for it, Yeah, begging. And

1:09:37

it reminded me why that existed in the first place,

1:09:39

which was the

1:09:41

idea that if we can put together some

1:09:43

type of charitable donation

1:09:46

and the listeners could get involved as well as Mark

1:09:48

and I will as well toward

1:09:51

Greg's charity of choice,

1:09:54

the Food Bank of Santa Monica's.

1:09:56

Right, sure that would be appropriate in

1:09:58

exchange.

1:09:59

For giving us access to a

1:10:01

listening session, a one time listening session

1:10:04

of Delaware. So

1:10:06

I'm going to again put that out

1:10:09

there to you, Greg, now that

1:10:11

we have the tapes. Out of respect for you as

1:10:13

a friend, I would never just ambush you and play

1:10:15

the tapes.

1:10:16

But we do have the tapes now.

1:10:18

So now it's just a matter of you agreeing

1:10:21

and giving the listeners. And I'm the reason

1:10:23

it came up while you were away is people

1:10:25

have been constantly hitting us

1:10:27

up about this for years, constantly

1:10:30

would be the right.

1:10:31

Right, like where are the tapes? The Delaware

1:10:33

tapes come on, Greg.

1:10:34

So the fact that now we do have the tapes,

1:10:37

it is fully the ball is in your court

1:10:39

to give the lit it's really twofold, give

1:10:41

the listeners what they've been clamoring for

1:10:44

a decade, and two to actually

1:10:46

help people in need via a

1:10:49

donation to charity.

1:10:50

You also could factor in the potential

1:10:52

outcome that Dan and Mark cannot find

1:10:54

a tape player anywhere. So that that's the second

1:10:56

part of this mission.

1:10:57

It's three file. Don't worry, Okay, sit

1:11:00

there. Yeah, I don't believe you that you haven't

1:11:02

listened. Wow, I promise you.

1:11:04

I do believe you. But I just I'm surprised. It wasn't

1:11:06

Hawaii. It was you know it was. It was the wrong

1:11:09

words for it.

1:11:10

We put the call out and immediately heard back

1:11:13

from parties connected.

1:11:14

Oh no, quick,

1:11:17

this is I mean it is a name. Bush is quite

1:11:19

a surprise. It's going to be you want to think

1:11:22

on it. We don't even know.

1:11:26

It's going to be disappointing to hear the forty

1:11:28

five second like joke songs

1:11:31

over like a tape recorder that were made

1:11:33

with us in a piano.

1:11:35

No, it will not be disappointed, but maybe it

1:11:37

will be disappointing. Uh, or

1:11:39

as Mark's probably

1:11:41

not going to be disappointing. Uh yeah,

1:11:44

because he did this the sore. I shouldn't

1:11:46

even say, hey, this person, this individual

1:11:49

even gave me some background information.

1:11:52

I mean, I know who it is. How

1:11:54

would I not know who it is? I don't know.

1:11:57

What do you mean? We don't

1:11:59

know what you know?

1:12:00

Oh, there is only one There is only

1:12:02

one person who would have kept

1:12:04

kept and everything, kept a record, kept

1:12:06

kept everything going.

1:12:08

So it's well, they betrayed you.

1:12:10

Well the start right there there. He wouldn't look at

1:12:13

it like that. Are you well,

1:12:15

are you upset with me or this

1:12:17

individual? No?

1:12:18

No, I can't be upset. You know that you just

1:12:21

dug it up. Finally it happened.

1:12:24

Uh. If you know who this is, he does.

1:12:26

He has a kind of a funny little story

1:12:28

also about your time together

1:12:30

in high school.

1:12:33

Working at the local newspaper.

1:12:34

It was not the local newspaper, but

1:12:37

it was our school newspaper in

1:12:39

which we were co sports editors

1:12:42

for a hot minute and then I sort of

1:12:44

just bailed on it and left him to do all the

1:12:46

work.

1:12:47

He kind of hints at that, but he the

1:12:49

email sent by this source was

1:12:51

very jovial in nature. Yeah,

1:12:54

so there's there's I don't believe there to

1:12:56

be. And Mark, I haven't shared this with you

1:12:58

either any bad

1:13:00

intentions. It was more, oh,

1:13:03

you know, do you want this?

1:13:04

Here?

1:13:04

It is and now Greg has a big decision to make,

1:13:07

and I wouldn't betray you and your privacy

1:13:09

if you want to keep the past in the past, but just

1:13:12

letting you know that it's out

1:13:14

there and that is I mean, that's

1:13:17

a major score, by the way, by the Zuzzar

1:13:19

as a journalist to after

1:13:22

years of looking to find the tapes

1:13:24

and now it is in your hands, and you

1:13:27

tell us if you're open to the idea of a donation

1:13:30

to bring the tapes forth, perhaps we play

1:13:32

them at our podcast

1:13:34

remote podcast at the Strand in

1:13:37

about a month. I think that would be

1:13:39

a listening party if you will these

1:13:41

ideas.

1:13:42

I would like you know, Greg, I mean, sleep on it

1:13:44

multiple times, just stretch this out for

1:13:47

like, let's really build up to that.

1:13:49

And that's yes's part great journalism

1:13:52

work by you. Dan to

1:13:54

read the tweet that was sent

1:13:56

to you.

1:13:56

Okay, don't don't hit

1:13:59

out at me doing my job.

1:14:00

I actually do remember when Jeff sent

1:14:04

a similar one seven or eight

1:14:06

years ago. It might have been over Facebook

1:14:08

or something like that, and just everyone

1:14:10

ignored him and I was like, okay.

1:14:12

Well the investigation.

1:14:15

Or it was even brought up on this show as many years

1:14:17

ago, maybe ten years ago.

1:14:18

The yeah, it has been.

1:14:21

And now it shifts

1:14:23

to decision time.

1:14:25

Yeah, in this decision year

1:14:28

for our country, a pivotal election

1:14:30

coming up, it is Greg now that first

1:14:33

has the pivotal decision.

1:14:34

For new listeners. Yeah, it was a It was a

1:14:37

band. I was in jokie band. I mean,

1:14:39

we didn't really play shows other than I

1:14:41

think our school's talent show a few

1:14:43

times, and we had some we

1:14:46

had some songs, we had some tapes.

1:14:48

And the call is put out there and my source,

1:14:51

a listener tracked down the source

1:14:54

on social media to let

1:14:56

him know that the call.

1:14:57

Was out all the president's men in two

1:14:59

point zero unbelievable.

1:15:01

All right, So there you go, let

1:15:03

us know. We want to hear your

1:15:06

debut album. How do you want to cook? We're

1:15:08

interested in maybe shiny Man went to Frogtown?

1:15:12

Now was that second? That was second?

1:15:15

I don't know. All right, we'll be back

1:15:17

on Wednesday. I mean, what a bombshell you

1:15:20

get.

1:15:20

You get the tension in the area, and it's not even

1:15:22

like an unhealthy I could feel Gregg's

1:15:25

gears turning like should I or shouldn't

1:15:27

I?

1:15:28

And can I can help people? Like all that stuff

1:15:30

is happening in real time? Right? Yeah? Mark

1:15:33

really is.

1:15:33

It is a fascinating subplot to our

1:15:35

lives.

1:15:36

As much as I am loath to help

1:15:38

people, it's it's a tough decision, all.

1:15:40

Right, Well you just try to sleep with it if you can.

1:15:43

Uh, until then we'll maybe get an answer

1:15:47

and the hopefully near future, we'll.

1:15:51

Be back Wednesday another episode

1:15:53

of Around the NFL. Till then see

1:15:57

the call.
