Tom Hardy was considered to play the role of John Connor, but ended up playing Mad Max in Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). Sam Worthington played a significant part inTerminator Salvation (2009). Before Hardy, Worthington was considered for the title role of Mad Max.

In the TV series "Spartacus: Blood and Sand", Jai Courtney's character Varro is a gladiator. In the 1982 film "Conan the Barbarian", Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is a slave and gladiator.
