As gasoline prices hover around $4 per gallon and car emissions continue to cause air quality issues throughout the nation we thought it would be a good time to explore alternative energy sources for automobiles. With this in mind, today we are going to talk about electric vehicle charging stations. For years the idea of the automobile running on nothing but electricity has been seemingly part science fiction and part wishful thinking.
But with the introduction of the Nissan Leaf earlier this year and the beginnings of a dedicated effort to begin work on an electric charging station infrastructure by organizations such as the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, the hope now seems to be turning into reality. The Air District has recently invested $3.9 million for the deployment of an electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
In this podcast Breath California speaks with the Air District's Director of Strategic Incentives, Damian Breen about many issues surrounding electric vehicles, including how the charging infrastructure will be implemented and what the potential impact a transition to electric vehicles on a mass level may have on air quality.
