Nick Davis was born in New York City in 1965, the son of a documentary filmmaker (Peter Davis) and a writer (Johanna Mankiewicz). He attended the Collegiate School in New York City and Harvard College. At Harvard, he was one of the founding members of the improv group, On Thin Ice. He graduated in 1987. He wrote, with Brooks Hansen, the novel Boone, which was published in 1990 and named one of the notable books of the year by the New York Times.
