Anthony Munns
When 'The Word' finally finished broadcasting on UK television (after an admittedly rapid decline in quality content from its peak), the world seemed to take a step further towards accepted and rigid conformity that only mavericks like Tony Wilson can hope to change or maybe I am getting old and cynical, either way I feel blessed to have seen and heard what I have growing up in the 90's and being a music obsessive.
So were you, like me, the kind of music nerd who loved to spend his spare time delving through indie music stores in the late 80's and 90's in the hope of finding something new to impress your ears and just maybe your mates.
Unhealthily beholden to the mostly myopic, yet all mighty, musical harbingers of NME and Melody Maker journos, and of course your mates older brothers, who on occasion had good taste!
Over those formative years flipping enthusiastically from Indie to Ska, Shoegazing to Brit-pop, Rock to Madchester, Hip-hop to Jungle, Funk to Grunge and blissing out on some Deep house, Trip-hop or Ambient vibes, yet always steering clear of Gabba!
Maybe like me, you matured and pivoted into being an audiophile and Sound on Sound obsessive as I ventured into the realms of Cubase/Ableton/DAW's/Plugins and cool production tools in your quest to produce fantastic beats and sounds that inspire and get your hips moving.
If you were as lucky as me to have been born in 1977, or thereabouts, and grew up in the UK, then we could well be whistling a similar tune with open musical minds structured first hand by the mass explosion of new styles and technology that hit the UK and US post Disco/Punk/New Wave in the mid to late 80's.
And if you are much younger or older, just possibly what I have seen or heard may inspire you to learn more about new areas of musicality that you might love or loathe.
As times have clearly changed, in this podcast I want to put the backbone to my life, my passion for all areas of music and music production out there in the open, as a suck it and see podcast with almost no agenda, but open to discussion, rant a little and chat to interesting people and extract some golden stories that can live on forever.
Maybe what I say is interesting to some, that would be nice.
But in general I see this as a way to collate stories that interest me from people who have inspired me to my own random thoughts on music, in general and music production.
Hope you enjoy the podcast!
