Cities have an effect on and are affected by climate change. As more than 2/3rd of the world’s population is estimated to live in cities by 2030, there are several issues that need to be addressed: such as transport, mobility, housing , health and livelihoods. Cities are responsible for 70% of global CO2 emissions and over 90% of all urban areas are coastal. Very quickly we’re confronted with just how vulnerable cities truly are and the key role they play in fighting climate change. I am joined by anthropologist Rahul Srivastava and urban planner Matias Echanove who cofounded Urbz, an experimental action and research collective specialised in participatory design and planning to talk about how user-generated cities are the key to sustainable urbanism.
