President and co-founder of Angel City Football Club, Julie Uhrman, is my guest this week on Another Door Opens. Angel City is a new women’s professional soccer team that’s coming to Los Angeles in 2022, and it was founded by three women: Actor and activist Natalie Portman, venture capitalist Kara Nortman and entrepreneur Julie Uhrman. Just this week, head coach and assistant coaching positions were announced, as was the first player. Julie has been named one of the 100 Most Creative People in Business by Fast Company and one of the Creative 50 by Ad Age. Previously, she served as EVP & GM of Over-The-Top Ventures for Lionsgate, building and managing the company’s multiple streaming franchises. In 2013, she founded and was CEO of OUYA, a pioneering Android-based game console for the living room, which raised a record-breaking $8.6 Million through Kickstarter and then went on to secure venture funding from Kleiner Perkins and Alibaba before selling to Razer in 2015.

Julie is leading the charge to build a National Women’s Soccer League franchise that merges mission and capital, along with a team of celebrity investors including Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams, their two year old daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr, Billie Jean King, America Ferrera, Jennifer Garner, Uzo Aduba, Abby Wambach, Eva Longoria, Mia Hamm and many more.
