On Ask Win today (Tuesday, April 25, 2023), Best-Selling Author, Win C welcomes Bob Delaney. In the face of it, Bob may seem like an odd choice to write a book about what front-line healthcare workers experienced during COVID and its long-lasting effects on their mental health. He’s not a doctor, or a nurse, or even a hospital administrator. But when it comes to post-traumatic stress, he knows of what he speaks. In the 1970s, as a young New Jersey state trooper, Delaney developed the condition after spending three years working undercover infiltrating the Mafia. He learned firsthand about the disruptive, potentially long-term impact traumatic events have on one’s well-being and the need to be cognizant of the enormous levels of stress many of us experience. The recipient of President Barack Obama’s Volunteer Service Award for his post-traumatic stress education work with the military, he has devoted his life to raising awareness about PTS. That’s why he felt motivated to investigate and write about the emotional turmoil he knew was taking place during the height of pandemic. Heroes are Human is comprised of stories told by frontline health-care workers, their family members, and those in their care. Delaney has many of the people in the book share their story.
