Teagan Lane's entire existence was

0:02

kept a secret . No

0:04

one knew she had even been born

0:06

until three years later when

0:09

a social worker accidentally stumbled

0:11

across her birth records . Her

0:14

mother , kelly , had kept her entire

0:16

nine month pregnancy and birth with

0:19

Teagan hidden from her boyfriend

0:21

, teammates , friends and

0:24

even her parents , who she'd been living with

0:26

at the time . The

0:28

last confirmed sighting of Teagan was

0:31

on the 14th of September 1996

0:34

, when she was just two days old

0:36

. Hospital staff released

0:38

her into the care of her mother and

0:41

she's never been seen since . This

0:54

episode contains content related

0:56

to infant homicide and is not

0:58

suitable for children . Today

1:01

I'm covering the missing person's case

1:03

of Teagan Lane , last

1:05

seen with her mother leaving Auburn Hospital in

1:08

Sydney , new South Wales . According

1:12

to Kelly , the day they were both released from

1:14

hospital , she walked with Teagan in

1:17

her arms to the lobby where

1:19

she handed the baby over to Teagan's biological

1:21

father . With him

1:24

was his mother and his then de facto girlfriend

1:26

, who had

1:28

all agreed , according to Kelly , that

1:31

they were going to take sole responsibility and

1:33

care for Teagan . The

1:36

police , however , did not believe

1:38

this version of events and

1:41

brought a case for murder against

1:43

Kelly Lane . Despite

1:45

searching for Teagan , looking for her

1:47

remains and attempting

1:50

to locate her father . Nothing has

1:52

come to light . Not

1:55

Teagan , living under a different name . Not

1:58

Teagan's remains and

2:00

not Teagan's father . So

2:03

, 27 years on , where

2:06

on earth could she be ? I'm

2:10

Carla Morgan and this is Bolo , a podcast

2:12

covering cold and active missing

2:14

persons cases with

2:18

the aim of helping families bring

2:20

their loved ones home . Kelly

2:27

Lane lived in Manly on the northern beaches

2:29

in Sydney . We've talked about the northern

2:31

beaches a few times in this podcast so far

2:34

. It's known as the Inchila

2:36

Peninsula and

2:38

it does hold some dark secrets . So

2:43

Kelly Lane played competitive water polo throughout

2:46

her teens and later went on to become a

2:50

sports teacher at a local private girls' school . Her father was

2:52

a senior police detective at

2:55

the Manly police station and her mother

2:57

, who was a former hospital worker

2:59

, was

3:02

also the manager of Kelly's water polo team . They were

3:04

protective parents

3:06

, well respected and heavily involved in

3:08

the case and heavily involved in

3:10

the community . They were also

3:13

strict and had very high

3:15

expectations of Kelly . She

3:18

was living with her parents when she became

3:20

pregnant . She didn't tell a

3:22

soul , even though

3:24

there were whispers that she was pregnant

3:27

from her water polo teammates . Kelly

3:30

would wear a towel to the side of the pool and

3:32

slip in unnoticed . Also

3:34

, she thought In 1995

3:37

, at nine months pregnant

3:39

, kelly played in the New South

3:41

Wales grand final for water polo

3:44

. And can I just

3:46

say , after being

3:48

nine months pregnant three times

3:50

over I could not imagine

3:52

doing much , let alone

3:54

jumping into a pool and playing the

3:57

physically strenuous and rough 30-minute

3:59

game of water polo . So

4:02

after the game the team went to the pub

4:05

to celebrate and at around 10pm

4:07

they all noticed Kelly had left

4:09

Unbeknownst

4:11

to them . She'd gone into labour

4:14

and admitted herself to hospital

4:16

. Kelly was 19

4:18

, and in secret , with

4:20

no support , she gave birth to

4:22

her first child . She

4:25

told hospital staff she'd received

4:27

prenatal care in Perth and

4:29

she gave a false address saying

4:32

she'd only been in Sydney for three weeks

4:34

. With the help of an agency

4:36

she put this child up for adoption

4:39

. You might have been thinking

4:41

this child was Teagan . It

4:44

was not . Teagan was Kelly's

4:46

second child , who was born in 1996

4:49

when Kelly was 21 . This

4:53

was another secret pregnancy . She

4:55

told no friends or family

4:58

and , as you know already

5:00

from the beginning of the episode , teagan

5:02

was released into Kelly's care and

5:04

, according to Kelly , was given

5:06

to her biological father to raise . Teagan

5:10

wouldn't be the last secret child

5:13

, as when Kelly was 24

5:15

, in 1999 , she

5:18

gave birth again , and this child

5:20

was also given up for adoption

5:22

like the first . Her

5:25

parents had no idea that

5:27

she had given birth to three

5:29

children in complete secrecy

5:31

over a five-year period . It

5:35

seems so unfathomable

5:37

that no adult that was

5:39

close to her suspected anything

5:41

through three pregnancies , especially

5:45

being a water polo player who was training

5:47

multiple times a week in swimming

5:49

togs . Also , water

5:51

polo is a very rough sport . You

5:54

get kicked , scratched , pulled

5:57

out and your togs almost ripped off . It's

6:00

a real contact sport and it can be dangerous

6:02

, especially so when pregnant . As

6:05

I mentioned already , her teammates

6:07

suspected that Kelly was pregnant and could

6:09

see that she was hiding it by covering herself

6:11

in a towel when out of the water and

6:13

by wearing baggy clothes , but

6:16

for whatever reason , her behaviour

6:18

didn't raise any suspicion amongst

6:21

any of the adults around her . Some

6:24

people were talking about it , yes

6:26

, but no one said anything or

6:28

did anything , which is kind

6:30

of indicative of the time as well . On

6:33

the day Teagan was last seen , she was

6:36

given a clean bill of health and discharged

6:38

with her mother at around 2pm

6:41

, but reports do vary

6:43

on the time , and it could have been as early as

6:45

12pm . Kelly's

6:48

whereabouts were then unknown up

6:50

until the time she arrived at her parents' house

6:52

to get dressed and ready for a friend's

6:54

wedding . She then

6:56

attended the wedding , which started around

6:58

4pm . She was wearing

7:00

a full white pantsuit , which

7:03

seems an incredulous

7:05

choice for a woman who has just given birth

7:08

, and she can be seen in footage

7:10

smiling and enjoying herself

7:12

. No one would

7:14

suspect she had just had a baby and

7:17

given the child up , nor

7:19

would they believe she had done the unthinkable

7:21

to that baby . Whatever

7:24

Kelly Lane is , she is a

7:26

master at hiding in plain sight

7:28

. In

7:30

1999 , when Kelly had

7:32

her third child in hospital , she

7:35

told staff it was her first and

7:38

once again put the child up for adoption

7:40

through an agency , as she had done

7:42

with her first . However

7:45

, when the adoption agency couldn't

7:47

reach her to finalise the paperwork

7:49

as she had given them false contact

7:52

information , the baby was

7:54

put into the care of Docs while

7:56

they attempted to locate her . So

7:59

Docs was the

8:01

NSW State Government Department

8:04

of Community Services that

8:06

provided child welfare services

8:08

from 1881

8:10

until it was abolished in 2009

8:13

. The Docs social

8:15

worker who was put in charge of locating

8:18

Kelly , his name was John Barovnik

8:20

. He was the person who

8:22

discovered for the very first time

8:25

other than hospital staff

8:27

that Teagan even existed

8:29

. He uncovered this

8:31

purely by accident , and

8:34

when he went in search of more information

8:36

about the child he could find

8:38

no records of her , no

8:41

medical records , nothing to

8:43

indicate that Teagan was alive and

8:45

well . He

8:48

also found out that Kelly had

8:50

had another child her

8:52

first , who was adopted previously

8:54

. So this got him thinking

8:57

. Well , she's had three

8:59

children . Her first and third

9:01

were adopted out here

9:04

on Earth is a second . He

9:07

managed to eventually contact Kelly

9:09

by phone and ask her point

9:12

blank if she had given

9:14

birth to a child called Teagan . At

9:17

Orban Hospital Kelly

9:19

denied having any previous

9:21

children , saying her third child

9:23

was her first . Then

9:26

, a week later , she

9:28

told the social worker that she

9:31

had in fact had Teagan and

9:33

that Teagan was living in Perth with

9:35

her dad . He

9:38

couldn't locate Teagan or the

9:40

father , so he alerted the Manly

9:42

Police Department and reported

9:44

Teagan as a potential missing person

9:47

. By this time

9:49

Teagan would have been three years old

9:51

. The

9:54

initial investigation into Teagan's

9:56

disappearance was slow . The

9:59

case was taken on by senior constable

10:01

Matthew Kehoe , even

10:03

though he knew Kelly's father

10:06

from when he had been a sergeant at

10:08

Manly Police Department . Kelly's

10:11

father had retired in 1995

10:14

, so he was no longer on the

10:16

force , but still this

10:18

was clearly a conflict of interest

10:20

to be investigating the

10:22

previous sergeant's daughter . In

10:26

2000 , kelly fell pregnant

10:28

again , but this time

10:30

she told her boyfriend and

10:33

her family that she was pregnant

10:35

. So for the very first

10:37

time she announced the pregnancy

10:40

. She went to regular obstetrician

10:42

appointments and she prepared

10:44

for this baby and birth like none

10:46

other . Despite

11:20

a sluggish start in 2001

11:23

, a missing person's investigation

11:25

for Teagan was underway . During

11:28

a police interview , Kelly admitted

11:30

that she had given Teagan to her biological

11:32

father and that his name

11:34

was Andrew Morris . No

11:37

one in her life knew this Andrew

11:39

Morris , nor could anyone recall

11:42

Kelly talking about someone by

11:44

that name . Kelly

11:46

maintained that had a brief affair and

11:49

she had told no one about it except

11:51

for one friend . And she came

11:54

forward much later and

11:56

it was revealed in the ABC documentary

11:59

Exposed that Kelly

12:01

had told her when she was out one night

12:03

about a guy named Andrew that

12:06

she'd been seeing . It

12:08

all appears a bit vague , but

12:10

perhaps that was by design . Despite

12:13

this , police still couldn't locate

12:15

an Andrew Morris and

12:17

, with Kelly claiming she didn't know where

12:19

Teagan was , they were at

12:21

a complete dead end . In

12:24

May 2003 , a new

12:26

detective , detective Gort , came

12:29

on the scene and in his first interview

12:31

with Kelly she revealed she

12:33

had made a mistake and the man's

12:35

name was not Andrew Morris , it

12:38

was Andrew Norris with

12:40

an N . It's in this recorded

12:43

interview that I'm sure most

12:45

of you have seen . It's on YouTube if

12:47

you want to look at it . She's

12:50

asked if she's being untruthful

12:52

and in response to the question

12:54

she sits in

12:57

complete silence for

12:59

a full 60 seconds

13:01

. Goren says

13:04

no . She

13:06

adamantly denies killing Teagan

13:08

and says she would never harm

13:10

her . Now a minute might

13:13

not sound like a long time , but sitting in

13:15

a police interview room it's

13:17

an uncomfortably lengthy pause . Detective

13:21

Gore reiterated that he still

13:23

didn't believe her story and

13:26

said that they would continue their investigations

13:28

. At this point

13:30

in the interview , kelly became visibly

13:32

upset , but her

13:35

concern didn't appear to be

13:37

about Teagan or the fact that

13:39

she was considered missing , nor

13:42

did she possibly realise the implication

13:44

that she was being suspected of

13:46

harming Teagan or of murder . It

13:49

was more apparent that she was fearful of her

13:51

parents and the wider community finding

13:53

out everything that she kept hidden

13:56

for so long . Kelly

13:58

had kept not only her pregnancies

14:00

, births and adoptions secret

14:02

, but also the fact that she was

14:04

being questioned and investigated

14:06

by police in her own child's missing

14:09

persons case . No one

14:11

knew anything . Once

14:13

again , a master of deception

14:15

. All smoke and mirrors , nothing

14:17

to see here . In

14:20

January 2004 , the

14:22

third police interview took place and

14:25

she still hadn't told anyone . She

14:27

was still clearly worried about how

14:29

people would view her , what her

14:31

parents would think if and when they found

14:33

out . She was also

14:35

now concerned about whether her most

14:37

recent child , who was in her

14:40

care , would be taken

14:42

away from her . So the consequences

14:44

of this investigation were starting to hit home

14:46

if they couldn't find Teagan . So

14:50

, before the police could , she

14:52

told her parents , telling them she'd

14:55

had a baby and that the police

14:57

thought she'd done something to it . Her

15:00

words , her parents believed

15:02

her version of events , as they still

15:05

do today . They continued to stand

15:07

by her and also emphatically

15:09

state she would never harm a

15:11

child . In fact , in

15:14

all of the reporting on this story

15:16

, there's not one person who

15:18

came forward to say that Kelly had a mean

15:20

streak or that she had potential

15:22

to hurt anyone , let alone

15:24

a baby . Everyone

15:27

has said there's just no way

15:29

. After

15:32

Teagan had been missing for seven and a half

15:34

years , the case was referred to the coroner

15:36

and in February of 2006

15:39

, the coronial inquest was held , kelly

15:42

was offered immunity from any

15:44

charges if she told

15:46

the police where the baby was . Immunity

15:50

was on the table . If she divulged

15:52

any criminal offence For

15:54

example , she could have confessed

15:56

to accidentally harming her illegal

16:00

adoption . Selling Teagan

16:02

anything but murder

16:04

would get her off any and all

16:06

charges . She

16:09

didn't take the deal because , as

16:11

she says in the exposed documentary

16:13

, she would never admit to something

16:15

she didn't do . Initially

16:18

, the court was closed to the public and there was

16:20

a gag order so nothing could be reported

16:22

in the media . But once Kelly

16:24

refused to take the deal and

16:27

exercised her right not to speak

16:29

at the inquest , the judge

16:31

lifted the no publication order

16:33

and a media circus

16:35

ensued . After hiding

16:37

so many secrets for so many

16:40

years now , everything

16:42

was out there for everyone to see

16:44

and I can remember

16:47

this case being in the media . It

16:49

was high profile . The

16:51

things people were shocked about were how

16:54

she was able to hide a

16:56

pregnancy , or three pregnancies

16:58

, from everyone and

17:00

people questioning like well , why didn't

17:02

she just use birth control if you didn't plan

17:05

on having the babies , especially

17:07

after the first one ? This is how people were

17:09

talking here about the case and

17:12

about her choices . They were also

17:14

talking about her reputation and

17:16

there was certainly an element of slut shaming

17:18

. The police

17:21

also used this momentum

17:23

to appeal to the public to help

17:25

find Teagan . If she was

17:27

out there , if her dad , her

17:29

grandmother and her stepmother were all

17:32

out there still caring for Teagan

17:34

, where were they ? Why

17:36

didn't they come forward ? Why

17:38

have they not come forward ? The

17:40

coroner , john Abernethy

17:43

, ruled that he was satisfied

17:45

Teagan was deceased , but

17:47

that there was not enough evidence to charge

17:49

a known person with her homicide

17:51

. The coroner called

17:53

Kelly's accounts a

17:55

litany of lies based

17:58

on what she had told police , social

18:00

services and adoption agencies

18:02

and said that her version of what

18:04

happened to Teagan was possible

18:07

but unlikely . He

18:09

maintained that , as Kelly herself

18:11

had provided no further details

18:14

or answers to questions

18:16

put to her at the inquest , that

18:18

he was simply unable to do more

18:21

than refer the case to the New South

18:23

Wales Homicide Squad for review

18:25

and further investigation . This

18:28

is when Detective Sharon Rhodes said

18:31

about reinvestigating the case . There

18:33

was a dig conducted underneath a house

18:36

in Venus Street in Gladesville

18:38

in Sydney's inner west . This

18:40

happened in 2008

18:42

, so 12 years after Teagan

18:45

had been born . The house

18:47

was previously owned by the boyfriend

18:49

. Kelly had been dating at the time and

18:52

she apparently told police in an

18:54

interview that she had briefly visited

18:56

on the day she was discharged from

18:59

hospital . Well

19:01

, perhaps police thought this because

19:03

in the exposed documentary she

19:06

said that Andrew Norris

19:08

, or Morris , dropped her off at

19:10

home after she met him

19:12

at the hospital , which

19:15

I personally find incredible

19:17

. If she was trying to hide the fact that

19:19

she'd had a baby , why

19:21

would she then allow him

19:25

to drop her off at home with a baby

19:27

in the car and possibly be seen ? I

19:30

don't know . Nothing of

19:32

note was found at the dig , despite

19:34

bringing in cadaver dogs and

19:37

doing a thorough grid search on that property

19:39

. Teagan was not there , but

19:41

neighbours did report that there had been

19:43

extensive renovations done on the home

19:46

from 2004

19:48

. A call was put out to

19:50

the public asking for anyone who had

19:52

contact with Kelly while she was in

19:54

hospital or anyone who had

19:56

seen her in the car park on the 14th

19:58

of September in 1996

20:01

to please come forward . After

20:04

two years of further investigating

20:07

, the police still didn't have

20:09

enough evidence to charge Kelly with any

20:11

crime , so they went to

20:13

the DPP , which is the Department

20:15

of Public Prosecutions , for legal

20:18

advice as to whether to continue

20:20

investigating or drop

20:22

it . The DPP said

20:24

yes , proceed with the case

20:26

. So in 2009

20:29

, kelly Lane was charged

20:31

with murder . In

20:43

2010 , the trial began in the Supreme

20:46

Court . Kelly did not

20:48

take the stand at any time and

20:50

did not testify , so the prosecution

20:53

had no body , no

20:56

murder weapon , no evidence

20:58

of death , no witnesses and

21:01

no confession . In

21:03

addition to the murder charge was three

21:05

counts of lying in relation

21:07

to the previous births , and this

21:09

meant the jury was able to hear about

21:12

these births , these secret births

21:14

. In any other trial

21:16

, this information wouldn't be allowed to

21:18

be admitted as there was no connection to

21:20

the original charge of murder . In

21:22

fact , the judge presiding over the case

21:25

explicitly asked the defence if

21:27

they wanted to strike the three charges

21:29

of lying from the record , but

21:32

they didn't , so it was allowed

21:34

. It also became evident

21:36

that the police investigation

21:38

was continuing on . Throughout the trial

21:40

, the prosecution was still

21:43

submitting documentation and

21:45

evidence that the defence had

21:47

to work through . Both the judge

21:49

and the defence found this frustrating

21:52

, and the judge raised his concerns

21:54

saying look , if this continues

21:56

, the trial would have to be aborted

21:58

. They stopped and

22:01

the trial continued . The

22:04

prosecution alleged that Kelly

22:06

murdered Teagan and dumped

22:08

her body at Olympic Park . It

22:11

was a theory without any supporting

22:13

evidence , and it was later withdrawn

22:15

and struck from the record Because

22:18

of this . The judge offered the defence

22:20

for the jury to be discharged and

22:23

a new jury assembled , but

22:25

they declined and the trial proceeded

22:28

with the original jurors . It

22:31

would seem the defence really thought they

22:33

had an open and shut case . Kelly

22:36

was innocent . They didn't

22:38

know the how , the when , the where

22:40

or the why , or even

22:43

if Teagan was actually deceased , so

22:45

there was no chance that Kelly

22:47

could be found guilty . They

22:50

didn't bring forward any witnesses

22:52

not one , while the prosecution

22:55

had over 75 . Ultimately

23:00

, kelly Lane was found guilty and

23:02

convicted of murder and three counts

23:04

of lying under the oath in December

23:07

of 2010 . She

23:09

was sentenced to 18 years in Silverwater

23:11

Women's Correctional Centre but

23:13

has been moved to other correctional centres

23:15

during that time , and she is currently

23:18

due for release in May 2024

23:21

. She appealed in the High

23:23

Court in 2014 against

23:26

her conviction , but lost , and

23:28

it was in 2018 that

23:30

she agreed to do an ABC

23:32

tell all interview documentary

23:35

in the hope that someone would come

23:37

forward with Teagan . The

23:39

series , as I mentioned , is

23:41

called Exposed the Case of Kelly

23:44

Lane , and I'll leave a link to

23:46

it in the show notes if you'd like to watch it

23:48

. I believe it's the very

23:50

first time she speaks publicly about

23:52

her story and she still strenuously

23:54

and continuously denies any involvement

23:57

in the alleged crime . Some

24:00

key points revealed in the documentary

24:02

that I think are worth mentioning are

24:04

the investigative journalist

24:06

found a tenant from the apartment

24:08

building where Kelly said Norris

24:11

Andrew Norris had lived . This

24:14

tenant had never been interviewed by

24:16

police , had never been found by police

24:18

and he positively

24:21

ID Kelly Lane as being there

24:23

. So he claims he saw her coming

24:25

and going at around the time

24:27

that she would have been seeing Andrew Norris

24:30

. However , he doesn't remember

24:32

seeing or knowing about a tenant

24:34

called Andrew Morris or Andrew

24:36

Norris . They

24:38

also discovered that a man called Andrew

24:41

Morris was interviewed by New

24:43

South Wales police during the

24:45

investigation . This Andrew

24:47

Morris claims he had one sexual

24:50

encounter with Kelly and that

24:52

he didn't have Teagan with him . Kelly

24:54

denies ever meeting this man

24:57

. He was nominated as

24:59

a witness for the trial but after

25:01

a negotiation between the defense

25:03

and the prosecution he was never

25:05

called to testify . Now

25:08

he can't confidently

25:10

say that it was her . He

25:13

feels he was led or coached to

25:15

come up with the memory by police and he

25:18

says this in the documentary . So

25:20

the negotiation or the deal

25:22

was a witness swap out . The

25:24

prosecution agreed not to put Andrew

25:26

Morris on the stand if the defense didn't

25:28

call Kelly's friend , who was

25:31

prepared to testify that Kelly had told

25:33

her she was seeing a guy called

25:35

Andrew Norris or Morris At

25:37

the time before she became pregnant with Teagan

25:39

. If this witness for

25:41

the defense had gone on the stand , it's

25:44

possible her testimony may have

25:46

provided enough reasonable doubt

25:48

for the jury not to convict

25:50

. Is

25:53

Kelly currently serving a sentence

25:56

for a crime she didn't commit and

25:58

Teagan is alive and well

26:00

, presumably living under a new

26:03

identity ? Or

26:05

did Kelly do the unthinkable

26:07

and murder her two

26:09

day old child and dispose

26:11

of her remains ? The

26:13

Bridge of Hope Innocence Initiative believes

26:16

that Kelly Lange's case is a wrongful

26:18

conviction . The evidence

26:20

they have to support this is phone

26:24

records weren't checked adequately at

26:26

the time to confirm that Kelly

26:28

was in contact with Andrew Norris

26:30

in the early days , as

26:33

she says that she was . These

26:35

phone records have since been destroyed . Police

26:39

didn't look hard enough for Andrew Norris and

26:41

they didn't find the witness in the apartment

26:44

block that Kelly said he lived in

26:46

, who positively ID Kelly

26:48

as being there . They

26:51

didn't work with Kelly to provide a conflict

26:53

drawing to show to the public to

26:56

appeal for the father's whereabouts , and

26:59

she was also unfairly slut

27:01

shamed . This

27:03

is from the petition of Mercy on their

27:05

website , and I'll link their website

27:07

in the show notes sources . In

27:10

2019 , the Bridge of Hope

27:12

Innocence Initiative called for an urgent

27:14

review into the Kelly Lange murder case

27:16

, following evidence that has

27:19

cast out over the adequacy of the police

27:21

investigation and the fairness

27:23

of her trial . We

27:25

have petitioned the Attorney General of

27:28

New South Wales to open a

27:30

full inquiry into the investigation

27:32

, prosecution and conviction

27:34

of Kelly Lange . While

27:36

we are supporting a position for

27:38

a review into Lange's conviction , what

27:41

is needed urgently is an

27:43

investigation into the policing

27:45

and prosecutorial practices that

27:48

led to Lange's trial in the first place

27:50

. The

28:02

two emergent theories are that

28:05

Teagan was murdered by Kelly just

28:07

after she left the hospital , or

28:10

that Teagan was given to the care of

28:12

a man called Andrew Norris , who

28:15

has never been located . Neither

28:18

has his mother or girlfriend , who

28:20

Kelly claims was with him when she

28:22

handed Teagan over to him . It's

28:25

worth mentioning that in Australia

28:27

, we do have a history of accusing

28:29

and convicting mothers of infanticide

28:31

and later exonerating

28:34

them . Lindy Chamberlain

28:36

and Catherine Folbig are

28:38

two Australian mothers who were

28:40

convicted of murdering their children in

28:43

what one could definitely say was

28:45

a trial by media and a witch

28:47

hunt , only to be exonerated

28:50

years later when more evidence

28:52

was uncovered or when the evidence

28:54

used to convict was proven to be flawed

28:57

. You can basically

28:59

get an expert witness to literally

29:01

say anything you need them to if

29:04

it supports your case in trial , and

29:06

this is what we saw with the aforementioned cases

29:09

. Both of these women are now free

29:11

and have been exonerated . In

29:14

my opinion , it would have been difficult

29:17

to leave the hospital , murder Teagan

29:19

and dispose of her remains and

29:22

then get back to her parents place that day

29:24

in time for the wedding Not

29:27

impossible , but difficult

29:29

. And why ? If

29:32

she had given her first child up for adoption

29:34

, would she not do it for her second

29:37

, as she did again for her third

29:39

? I can totally understand

29:42

covering everything up . At a young

29:44

age , kelly

29:46

was resourceful and came

29:48

up with a plan for two of

29:50

her children three , if

29:52

we believe her story . That involved

29:54

keeping her children safe and cared

29:56

for when she could not . She

30:00

had also had two abortions previously

30:02

in her teens , so she knew

30:04

what options were available to

30:06

her if she did not wish to keep her children

30:09

, and she utilised the services

30:11

at the time . It's

30:13

not a crime to

30:15

have a secret pregnancy

30:17

and give birth to a baby and

30:20

give them up for adoption . It's

30:22

perplexing that she would decide

30:24

on a different plan with one of

30:26

those children . I feel

30:28

it more plausible that she gave the

30:30

baby to someone and

30:32

she's still either protecting that someone

30:35

or she genuinely

30:37

didn't know them or didn't want any

30:39

contact and therefore can't trace

30:41

them . Now , like a private

30:43

adoption with no future contact

30:45

agreed between the two parties , it's

30:48

also possible that that person

30:50

has decided , for whatever reason , not

30:53

to come forward with Teagan , perhaps

30:55

to protect the child , to

30:58

protect themselves . If

31:00

Kelly knew more than what she's

31:02

letting on , she had ample

31:04

opportunity to get immunity and

31:07

not go to prison by telling the

31:09

police what she knew . She

31:11

did not or chose not to

31:13

. So the only person

31:15

who really knows the truth about what

31:17

happened to Teagan is Kelly herself

31:20

. New South

31:22

Wales has recently introduced a new

31:24

law after the Lynette Dawson

31:26

case . Lynne's law is

31:29

no body , no parole , so

31:31

convicted murderers will not be released until

31:34

they reveal the location of

31:36

their victim's body . Kelly is

31:38

still serving her 18 year

31:40

sentence and has reportedly

31:42

been a model prisoner . I've

31:44

read in one article that she's even

31:47

considered Queen B , which

31:49

here is like top dog

31:51

. She's due for release in

31:54

early 2024 and

31:56

Lynne's law doesn't apply retrospectively

31:58

, so she should be released at that time

32:00

. There have been recent reports

32:02

that she's currently living in a halfway

32:04

house and has a full-time job for

32:07

the prison in preparation for her

32:09

release next year . She maintains

32:11

her innocence and the investigation

32:13

into Teagan's whereabouts continues

32:16

. The fact remains

32:18

that Teagan is still a missing

32:20

person and will be until

32:23

either she is found alive or

32:25

her remains are located . It

32:29

ended up by chance that the day

32:31

I wrote this episode was Teagan's

32:33

birthday . She would be

32:35

27 years old now . Happy

32:39

birthday , teagan . If
