Welcome to the first ever episode of Breaking Beauty! A new podcast dedicated to having an open and honest conversation about what it is like growing up biracial with American beauty standards. The host of the show, Olivia Mar, shares her struggles of finding her identity within her Chinese and Italian culture. Olivia details her journey of desperately wanting to fit in with the societal beauty norms to finally finding acceptance and love for her heritage and who she is. Olivia also sits down with two of her roommates, Raz Hagay and Kiki Hosaka, to get their perspectives on the matter. Raz, an Israeli-American, was born in Israel and later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where she has lived since she was three years old. Raz shares her story of having to learn a new language and culture all while struggling to find her place in a whole new country. Kiki, a Japanese-American, was born and raised in Hood River, a small town in Oregon. Kiki recalls what her childhood was like as one of the only Asian Americans in her town. Together, the three discuss how the American beauty standards affected their image of themselves and reminisce on times when all they wanted to do was fit in. Olivia, Raz and Kiki discover many shared similarities in their stories and experiences.
