First: I listened to this on a vacation a year ago so excuse me if I have some details wrong, I'll write everything as well as I remember it. This review also contains spoilers! This podcast left me a little confused. It had all the right ingredients- a journalistic duo with an interesting dynamic, an intriguing mystery and a seemingly supernatural background but somehow I still couldn't fully get into it. I liked the nods to Limetown and the spooky atmosphere in the first episodes and I remember liking the soundscaping and mixing. That being said the acting wasn't always my thing and the ending was not my thing at all. I'm still not sure if there was actually a supernatural element to the story. As far as I understood the town doesn't actually disappear, identical towns just exist all over the place? And there is no monster, it's all just sex trafficking and criminals cleaning up after themselves whenever someone dies or disappears. Oh yeah, the sex trafficking thing didn't really click with me either I guess and when the gay teenager gets killed... I just honestly didn't like that scene. I'd also love CWs, just because the topic at hand is incredibly traumatic to some people. Anyway. That being said I would listen to a second season and I encourage everyone to make up their own opinion. I know I went hard on this story in some points but I think it was just not my kind of story and that doesn't mean it won't speak to whoever is reading this :)
I didn't like this one very much. The reporting duo worked together and the show kicks off well. At a certain point, the reporter Christina talks about "all the people she's lost along the way", yet only 1 person has died... And it's been only 4 days since she's started reporting. I might have these details wrong, but these rubbed me the wrong way while listening. It just felt weird and out of place. I have no problem with a reporter being totally invested in her work and I would have understood if she had been frustrated about the story itself not being told if she would quit. But the "losing so many people along the way" just felt weird.I did really like Christina's voice actress, I hope to find other things she's done. :)
