Today’s book suggestion is another book from my collection and its called The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo.
This is a YA novel published in 2018. This book written in verse, explores how a young girl in Harlem discovers slam poetry as a way to understand her mother’s religion and her own relationship to the world.
Funny thing is, I decided to purchase this book after seeing a little commercial for this book at Target where you can actually see Elizabeth talking about it. Not only was I drawn to her personality, I was drawn to the fact that the book was in verse and that its told in the #ownvoice of an Afro-Dominicana.
So, short and sweet, that’s my suggestion for today.
