Hey folks, in this episode I'm going to introduce myself
third episode, and I think maybe it's about time you find out who's doing all the talking on the cows are girls and bulls have balls, podcasts. It's hard to talk for an entire episode about yourself and still sound humble, but, I'm going to give it a shot.
The origin story of how Vanden became the rancher and podcaster that he is today. So thanks for listening and hope you enjoy it.
I tell you all this because this is coming from a guy who can look at the headquarters of the ranch and on the top of the hill there's grain bins that their purpose was to hold wheat that is no longer a wheat farm  On the south end of the yard, there's a little steel quonset with a bunch of concrete around it, and its purpose was to be a hog facility, which in my lifetime has never had a hog in it. And the only reason for that is that the small scale hog industry basically ceased to exist. And  on the other side of the yard, there's a dairy barn that for many years now has not had a dairy cow in it because a small scale dairy farm industry has ceased to exist. Some of these buildings have been repurposed for other things, but it does make a guy wonder  how long will it be before you look at these buildings that are in the yard and the land that the family has worked hard to put together? And you just wonder, , when is it gonna come time when you say," well, I guess the beef industry on this scale doesn't exist anymore."  My inlaws have the shooting business and I think they've probably made more money in the shooting business and repurposing their ranch for that industry then I can ever dream of making with a cow.
But the gun industry certainly knows, how it feels to be under attack, just as much as the ag industry  And small side note. My other hobby is in the drone industry and right now it's interesting to listen to a drone podcast and if you listen to just about any one of them, they will talk about how the drone industry is even, upset with how the United States government is treating  recreational and hobbyist drone flyers. So it's something, that really makes a guy wonder, you know, what, what's going on. This podcast is about finding solutions. I did this whole thing, I tried really hard to sound humble for the whole episode. And, I think of, there's a scene in the movie iron man when somebody asks him if he thinks the suit is going to work and he simply says, yeah, "I did the math."
And that's his answer. I did the math and, you know, try to sound humble. And here I am comparing myself to iron man and I'm just going to start doing the math and we're going to shoot ideas past each other and we're going to come up with something that works and pulls us through the situation that we're in right now. And anyone out there want to share their origin story of their ranch or how they became a producer, especially first generation ranchers.That's a really interesting study for me right now of how someone can put together an operation for the first time in the situation  of the industry has been in lately.
