0:31
cop John O'Keefe is dead the
0:33
Commonwealth of Massachusetts aims its
0:36
target on his girlfriend Karen
0:38
Reed and seems to do everything
0:40
it can to guarantee a
0:42
conviction. Dr. Turtle
0:44
Boy amps up his reporting and
0:47
becomes a vocal part of defending
0:49
Karen Reed while getting himself into
0:51
legal trouble and eventually jail then
0:55
the lead Massachusetts state
0:57
police investigator Michael
0:59
Proctor under federal investigation
1:01
himself takes the stand as
1:04
he displays a bias toward
1:07
making sure Karen Reed
1:09
goes down for murder. My
1:12
name is M. William Phelps I'm
1:15
an investigative journalist in the true crime
1:17
author of close to 50 books I've
1:19
dedicated the past 20 years of my
1:22
life to helping families of the missing
1:24
and murdered. Join me for
1:26
part two of the Karen Reed
1:28
case we're crossing the line
1:41
you're in the course of your investigation your
1:43
figures of speech including the
1:45
following she's
1:47
a bitch section yes
1:52
a wet job correct yes
1:54
a retard right yes
1:57
balloon knot lease right Yes.
2:00
No ass, correct? Yes.
2:02
She's fucked according to you,
2:04
right? Yes. Ass
2:06
leaker. That was a word you used at Figured
2:08
Speaks, right? Correct. A
2:10
girl who shits herself, right? Correct.
2:13
And then fuck her, correct? Correct.
2:19
Would you agree, Trooper Proctor, that you have
2:22
dehumanized Karen Reed
2:25
during the course of your investigation with comments
2:27
and words like this? Yes. I'll
2:30
give you this one, Mr. Jackson. Do
2:32
you agree with that? I'd
2:35
say based off that language, um...
2:44
Yes. And you admitted, in your
2:47
own words, that
2:49
the cop homeowner wasn't going to, quote, catch any
2:52
shit, right? Correct.
2:55
Because you were out to, quote, make
2:58
this cut and dry. Isn't that right? The
3:01
homeowner wasn't going to catch any shit because Mr.
3:03
Elba had nothing to do with Mr. O'Keefe's death.
3:06
Because you were going to make sure that the
3:08
case was cut and dry. Those were your works,
3:10
right? Correct. Sustained. And,
3:13
Trooper Proctor, it would be far
3:15
easier, far easier for you to
3:18
pin it on the girl who's
3:22
just a whack-job cunt. In
3:24
your words, who you
3:26
hope just kills herself,
3:29
right? Jackson. Sustained.
3:37
Shame on you, sir. I
3:41
think I want to start off by
3:43
saying what's important in the Karen Reed
3:45
case is something we rarely
3:48
talk about within murder trials.
3:50
The everyday business of life, how
3:53
we respond to those around us,
3:56
and how we ultimately treat others
3:58
in our lives. What
4:01
I mean by this is, let's say
4:03
we had a fight with our significant
4:05
other, flew off the handle, said things
4:07
we regretted, and took off for
4:09
the night to cool off. And
4:12
then, nothing happens afterward
4:14
but both parties giving themselves
4:16
a chance to calm down
4:19
before they reconcile. Let's
4:21
say one of us dies that night
4:23
and the other is accused of murder.
4:25
Well everything that was said
4:28
and done is suddenly scrutinized and
4:30
judged. You are now
4:32
held accountable for things you might
4:35
have uttered during a heated argument.
4:38
Y'all get what I'm saying here. This
4:40
is important in Karen Reed's case because
4:42
she and John O'Keefe, according
4:44
to her, fought that night
4:46
and even in the days leading
4:49
up to his death. We cannot
4:51
talk about this case without mentioning
4:53
social media, which has truly
4:55
done a disservice to murder cases and
4:57
trials despite any good that might
5:00
come from it. The vitriol
5:02
and lies and speculation from
5:04
asinine people who know nothing,
5:07
who have nothing better to do, circulating
5:10
nonsense and bullshit, stirring up
5:12
and polarizing people involved, confusing
5:14
the facts of cases is
5:16
nothing more than noise. The
5:18
days are gone when a
5:20
trial comes to pass and
5:22
we watch and wait to
5:24
see what the evidence reveals.
5:27
Every single detail is now turned into
5:29
a conspiracy theory or a question mark.
5:33
Most of these people have no idea
5:35
what it's like to sit inside a
5:37
courtroom day after day and listen to
5:39
the case unfold in real time without
5:42
any social manipulation buzzing in your brain
5:44
from an iPhone. I'm
5:47
sorry John O'Keefe died. I
5:49
have sympathy and even empathy
5:51
for his family and friends and those
5:53
who loved him. But part
5:55
of honoring John O'Keefe's memory is
5:58
getting to the truth. finding out
6:00
what happened and who, if anyone,
6:03
killed him. And I agree
6:05
with Turtle Boy. We will
6:07
probably never know entirely what
6:10
happened, unless that is the
6:12
FBI steps up and takes
6:14
this case over and investigates
6:16
the investigators to see what
6:18
in the hell they did. Because
6:21
if there is one true fact in this case, it's
6:23
that the people in charge
6:26
of investigating O'Keefe's death are
6:28
incompetent, ignorant, many of them
6:30
misogynistic, and surely incapable of
6:33
solving a fucking Scooby-Doo episode,
6:35
better yet, a murder
6:37
inquiry. Turtle Boy has
6:39
guts. I'll give him that. He
6:42
sometimes stands outside the courthouse, streaming
6:44
live after the day's testimony and
6:46
questions people on both sides as
6:48
they walk out. At times, he
6:50
shouts things at them. What
6:53
can I say about that? It's
6:55
the world we live in now. I
6:57
asked Turtle Boy to talk about free
6:59
speech and its boundaries. Yeah, I
7:02
don't believe in boundaries of free speech. I
7:04
mean, it's like if there's boundaries, then it's
7:06
not really free, is it? So
7:09
I exercise my free speech rights and
7:12
some people might not like them. What
7:15
some people view as attacking witnesses, I
7:17
view as exposing them or calling them
7:19
out. He does, I think, push
7:21
the boundaries. Yet what are those
7:23
boundaries? Where is the line drawn and when
7:26
do we cross it? Just because
7:28
these tactics are not what I would do
7:30
or a lot of people would not
7:33
condone, does it mean they are
7:35
not a feasible way to get at the
7:37
truth? Okay,
7:39
let's get into some evidence in this case.
7:42
One of the state's most important pieces
7:44
of evidence, if not the most important,
7:47
is the taillight housing from Karen Reed's
7:49
Lexus, as I mentioned in part one.
7:52
If Karen Reed smashed into John with the back
7:54
of her Lexus at 24 miles per hour and
7:57
knocked him down and unconscious. which
8:00
is what the prosecution contends,
8:02
it means that she'd likely smashed
8:04
the back tail light on
8:06
her vehicle. Yet when
8:08
O'Keefe was found, there
8:10
wasn't any tail light pieces recovered from the
8:13
scene. In the
8:15
days and weeks after the body is
8:17
discovered, lead investigator Michael Proctor and his
8:19
investigators say they began to find pieces
8:21
of Karen's tail light on the front
8:23
lawn of the Albert House. Apparently,
8:27
this was an open crime scene, active
8:29
for weeks and weeks after the body
8:31
is located. How
8:34
did they find all those pieces
8:36
of tail light? Wait until
8:38
you hear this. Proctor
8:40
and his supervisor testified. They
8:43
had altered their trips into and
8:46
home from work every day in
8:48
order to make sure they drove
8:50
by the Albert House. They
8:53
did this because the snow was so deep
8:55
from the blizzard, they needed to wait until
8:57
it melted so they could see what was
8:59
on the ground. And as
9:01
the days and weeks passed, presto
9:03
bingo, Bob's your uncle, as they
9:06
say in England, they
9:08
began to find larger and larger
9:10
pieces of Karen Reid's smashed tail
9:12
light on the ground. Mind you,
9:15
they were driving by the house and
9:17
would spot these pieces of tail light
9:19
from the confines of their vehicles. Convenient.
9:23
That's the only word that comes to mind. Here's
9:26
turtle boy and his explanation. If you're in
9:28
the neighborhood, just drive by, take a quick
9:30
look out your window from a moving vehicle.
9:33
And every time they do, they find more tail light. The
9:36
tail light plant is actually a rare
9:38
perennial flower that grows exclusively on Brian
9:41
Albert's front lawn. And it blooms in
9:43
February, as it turns out. Because every
9:45
time they went by there, they found
9:48
more tail light on six different undocumented
9:51
trips. They keep finding more and more tail
9:53
light. And the pieces become progressively bigger. That's
9:55
another thing we learned in the testimony. The
9:58
biggest piece was found on February. 18th.
10:00
Like how did you miss this? And
10:03
by the way, the Canton Police Department,
10:05
when they first got to the scene and it
10:07
was their crime scene initially at
10:09
6am, they videotaped
10:11
themselves searching the scene with
10:14
a leaf blower and there was only like
10:16
an inch of snow and they don't
10:18
find any red taillight. I
10:21
think that bear's repeating. The
10:23
Canton PD first took over the crime
10:25
scene. They used a
10:27
freaking leaf blower to move the snow
10:29
away to search the scene and they
10:31
found nothing. Now
10:35
let's take this a step further. After
10:37
the state police take over that crime
10:39
scene and by this time of the
10:41
day with the blizzard in full force,
10:44
they have towed Karen's SUV away
10:47
from her parents' house. This
10:49
is what happens. 12
10:52
hours later, after 18 inches of snow
10:54
has fallen and Michael Proctor
10:56
has taken Karen Reed's
10:59
Lexus SUV and it's inside
11:01
the Canton Police Department, after
11:04
that happens, then they decide,
11:06
let's search it again. Let's dig it
11:08
up and lo and behold, four pieces
11:10
of red taillight appear. The first four
11:12
out of 45 total pieces that will
11:14
later be found and a black Nike
11:16
stinker is also found during that search
11:18
that was not, some of the Canton
11:20
Police just must be completely blind because
11:22
they missed all of this when only
11:24
an inch or two of snow was
11:26
on the ground. So now it appears
11:29
to be a co-investigation with the Canton
11:31
PD as Turtle Boy explains here, referring
11:33
to the chief of the Canton Police
11:35
Department. That means something's a foul. The
11:38
police chief himself in that town also
11:41
found taillight when he drove by on February
11:43
4th and also happens to be friends with
11:46
Brian Albert and also my
11:48
reporting found out that on February 1st, when
11:51
Karen was arrested, a reporter from
11:54
Boston 25 News tweeted out that
11:56
his body was found on the lawn of another
11:58
Boston police officer named Brian. Albert. And
12:01
this reporter was messaged by the chief of police
12:03
and asked to remove his tweet because quote,
12:06
Brian Albert is a pillar of the community
12:08
and doesn't deserve to have his name smeared
12:10
like that in the media, even though dead
12:12
body was found in Islam. And the reporter
12:15
was like, sure, whatever. And
12:17
then cotton, when this all went down, contacted
12:19
me and showed me the receipts of the
12:21
police chief making this request. The police chief
12:23
has since deactivated all social
12:25
media. And he's
12:28
also very good friends with Brian
12:30
Higgins, the ATF agent mouse who
12:32
was romantically interested in Karen Reed.
12:34
Important for me is that the
12:37
state police told Karen's vehicle from
12:39
her parents house to the
12:42
Canton PD's garage. The
12:45
Massachusetts state police involved the
12:47
local PD in their
12:50
investigation. A town Canton
12:52
where the Albert family, according
12:55
to turtle boy and many, many
12:57
more has tremendous influence.
13:00
State police allow
13:03
the Canton PD to maintain,
13:06
look after what is
13:08
effectively the most damning piece
13:11
of evidence in this case. Why
13:14
don't we take our first break here? Because I

half. Please subscribe to

13:57
that support I must tell you and
26:00
his sister's wedding, that he sat with them
26:02
at the head table at his sister's wedding
26:04
in 2012 and never disclosed
26:07
that to anyone, that he was offered
26:09
a gift on the day that Karen
26:11
Reed was arrested by
26:13
Julie Albert, whose
26:16
son was never questioned. Colin was never questioned by
26:18
police, even though he was inside that house. And
26:20
so he's got a tail light. He
26:25
lied on his report about what time he towed Karen Reed's car.
26:27
He said he towed it at 5.30. Ring
26:29
camera footage shows the car being towed at 4.15. If
26:32
he towed it at 5.30, he couldn't have gotten the
26:34
car back in time to plant tail light before
26:36
the 5.45 search. But
26:38
if he left at 4.15, he would have time. He lied
26:41
in his report. He said it was 5.30. Why
26:43
did he lie about that? So let's
26:45
take another short break here. Come back and
26:48
wrap up the second part of the Karen
26:50
Reed case, a story I think you will
26:52
be hearing me talk about again in the
26:54
coming weeks on CTL. No doubt about it.
26:57
