His pain is real, but the addiction he realized was all in his head. After kicking pain 'dope' he opted to resort to natural sources such as laughter and marijuana. Then he sold his prosthetic leg on eBay to search for clarity in life by running around the only way he still knew how, in a car. After smoking a lot of weed his mind, his mind cleared.
