Annie is a sweet and sassy sociologist bent on advancing her academic career and loving Charlie, her uncouth, yet lovable boyfriend with a past. When Annie gets the opportunity to interview for a dream job out of town, Charlie takes it upon himself to escort her even though he's not supposed to leave town since he's in the witness protection program. While they playfully argue - and Annie schools him on his foul language - it comes to light that Charlie used to be a criminal and Annie feels betrayed. Several car chases and a bag of money in a field later - they reconcile and ride off into the sunset.
