Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease. Once you enroll, you’ll need to decide how you’ll get your Medicare coverage. There are 2 main ways:

• Original Medicare Part A and B
• Medicare Advantage or Medicare Part C

Under Original Medicare Plan you can go to any doctor enrolled in the Medicare. You do not need a primary care doctor or a referral to see a specialist but of course the specialist must be included must be enrolled in the Medicare 

Like any health plan, in Medicare Plan, you have deductible, the copayment  or coinsurance. Under original Medicare there is no annual limit for what you pay out of pocket so depending upon your circumstances your out of pocket expenses could literally skyrocket. You can buy Medicare supplemental insurance policy which is also known as Medigap policy. 

Medicare Advantage there is a yearly limit on your out of pocket expenses. Medicare Advantage will cover all the services that original Medicare covers plus some plans offer benefits that are not offered by the original Medicare Part A&B like vision, hearing and dental. You do not have a choice of doctors or health providers like in original Medicare. 

Medicare generally does not cover any care outside of US whether it is Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage but with original Medicare you are still able to buy supplemental insurance that offers travel coverage.
