30:00

a lower energy time of the day

30:03

or of the week and plow through

30:06

as many of them as we can during

30:08

that time. So I tend to wind

30:10

up with what I call a Friday punch list. And

30:12

so during the week, I'm keeping a running list of

30:14

all these things that are not urgent

30:17

but need to happen at some point and aren't

30:19

my top priority and I'll make that list. And

30:21

then on Friday, I'll try to get through all

30:24

of them. And it's amazing what you can get

30:26

through of like, an hour or

30:28

90 minutes of filling out

30:30

forms and paying those bills and calling those people you have

30:32

to call and setting up those appointments. And you get to

30:34

the end of the list, you're like, wow, I am on

30:36

fire, I did all those things. But

30:39

it didn't keep you from doing your

30:41

bigger, more important projects

30:43

the rest of the week. You had time for those

30:45

things and the little things. So I'm

30:47

not sitting there on Monday morning being like, well,

30:49

I should be working on this next book, but gotta

30:52

fill out those permission forms, so yeah. Well,

30:55

do you also block time

30:58

for the bigger think things on your

31:00

calendar? I generally do

31:02

try to think about mornings and

31:05

earlier in the week for doing those sorts

31:07

of things. And if I

31:09

see a day that is open,

31:14

I do my best to keep it

31:16

open. I've definitely tried to batch calls

31:18

and meetings on certain days of the

31:20

week so that I can have that

31:23

off the clock experience of sitting down in

31:25

the morning and be like, I'm just gonna

31:27

do the things I wanna do and throw

31:29

myself into these deeper projects and keep going

31:31

and not have to look up and prepare

31:33

for a call at a certain time. That

31:38

was author and time expert, Laura

31:40

VanderKam. Laura has

31:43

so many tips and we really barely

31:45

skimmed the surface today. So go check

31:47

out her work at lauravanderkam.com. A

31:50

few things that I will remember from this

31:53

conversation. I'll probably even try

31:55

in my everyday life. Okay,

31:57

first, I am not one to love. my

31:59

time every day like Laura, that's too much,

32:02

but I do think there's value in logging

32:04

one's time for a week. It's a great

32:06

exercise and it'll reveal things that you aren't

32:08

paying attention to. Just natural

32:10

places for you to create more time.

32:13

Next, get a hobby. Especially

32:16

if you're like me, a busy person drowning

32:18

in the demands of childcare and parent care

32:21

in a big job. A hobby

32:23

is protected time for yourself. It's

32:26

like appointment self-care. Last,

32:29

time batching. Time

32:31

batching is a great way to tick through the administrative

32:34

aspects of a life without eating

32:36

up that time for big thought. Now

32:40

let's keep this conversation going this week

32:43

during office hours. I'm sure you have

32:45

lots of ways that you have found

32:47

to create more time in your day-to-day.

32:50

Come share them with us. We'll go live

32:52

on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. Eastern from

32:54

the LinkedIn News page. And as

32:56

usual, if you have trouble finding us,

32:59

shoot us an email at hellomondayat linkedin.com

33:01

and we'll send you a link. Hope

33:04

to see you there. Hello
