Welcome to How To: Manage Your Mind

Episode 07 - How To: TALK. (HT:MYM Audio Portraits)

Introducing the How To: Manage Your Mind x TALK. collaboration.

TALK. (https://www.talkportraits.co.uk/) is an ongoing portraiture project by Edinburgh-based photographer Graham Williams, started in March 2023. The project aims to encourage men to talk openly and honestly about their mental health by displaying portraits of individuals who have done exactly that. Each portrait is taken after a conversation between sitter and photographer, during which they discuss their own journeys and experiences with mental health. The text which is displayed alongside each photograph comes directly from this conversation. In this episode, John and Graham discuss the inspiration behind TALK., how Graham creates an environment for people to share their words and image, and the new collaboration between HT:MYM and TALK. to create 'audio portraits' with some of his subjects.

Hi, I’m John, and we have something in common: a mind…

Six years ago I unexpectedly hit a major mental brick wall. I had no idea what it was or how to deal with it. Ever since I’ve been on a journey to learn all about the mind and how to manage it.

Through therapy, talking circles, deep (deep) conversation, mindfulness meditation, spirituality, personal research and much more besides, I’m fascinated with how people maintain their mental wellbeing.

Join me as I explore what it is we can do in the minutes, hours, days, months and years that make up our extraordinary lives to stay motivated, engaged and at peace with the world we live in.

John is a father, husband, co-founder of the mental wellbeing collective The Men Who:, ambassador for the Joshua Nolan Foundation and constant source of curiosity.
