Full five b/c am ecstatic that they tackled this, but actually think they missed a couple of points that would've made for keener critique. 1) Peter+Mike mock 𝘾𝙤𝙙𝙙𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜's derisive claim that The Youth widely believes 'what doesn't kill you makes you weaker.' They counter that no one really believes this - b/c it's absurd. Yet many things that don't kill us make us weaker, including Covid, cancer, and institutional racism. A stronger critique would be to mock 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙙𝙙𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜... for discounting an easily defensible position. 𝟮) However the real take-down of 𝘾𝙤𝙙𝙙𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜: is actually aging finger-waggers who now demand coddling when they pen and publish lengthy screeds about contending with new ideas. These folks in positions of authority resent challenges to their ideology. A fear of admitting one's own guiding principles might have been wrong, and having to apologize to someone lower on the social scale - like one's students (or descendants). Truly its Lukianoff & Haidt who want protection from the scary prospect of new mores, or having to grapple with their own fallibility. Is a bit ironic that P+M didn't explicitly hit the latter point, b/c its embedded in their episode summary's satirical TW. Again - stronger not to have been satirical about it, but unpack the fundamentals therein.
