This week Isabel and Elizabeth continue our conversation with Blu Buchanan, a PhD Candidate in the Sociology Department at UC Davis, and Co-Founder of Students and Workers Ending Racial Violence (SWERV). We discuss why now, more than ever, it is important to advocate for transparency in policing. Additionally, we cover systemic accountability, including who benefits from “stand your ground” laws and if tools such as body cameras increase accountability. We begin to think of systems structurally and what it looks like to begin social justice work, what it means to move past racial shame, define “whitesplaining”, and speak about why it is imperative to be an accomplice instead of an ally.Stay tuned for part seven of our conversation with Blu!Have any comments, questions, or ideas for future shows?
