Georgia Tann ran a Tennessee children's home for 3 decades, from the 1920s-1950s, and was a force in driving the acceptance of adoption back when adoption was a social taboo. She catered to celebrities, State Governors, and anyone with deep enough pockets. To those looking in, she looked like a saint; doing good for needy children and families who wanted them. In reality, she was a contender for one of America's worst women in history. The children she adopted out were kidnapped (often by her own hand), abused, and sold for extraordinary profit. Hundreds died while in her home. Thousands would never see their birth parents again. With the help of the mayor, a corrupt judge, and the city attorney, Georgia was free to make them all rich through child trafficing , completely unhindered by outside scrutiny for years.
