0:13

0:16
shapes and sizes, we need you on
0:18
our team. So check out the show notes
0:20
below of what it means to become
0:23
a Critter Protector today. Well,
0:26
friends, are you ready for an amazing
0:28
story about Dominic the bottlenose
0:30
Dolphin? Me too, Let's
0:33
go. It
0:42
was a beautiful day in Shark Bay,
0:44
Australia as Dominic
0:47
was zooming around with his friends.
0:50
They were playing tag eight,
0:53
nine, ten, Ready or
0:55
not? Here? I come, shouted
0:58
Dominic as he was zooming around
1:00
trying to tag all of his friends. You
1:03
see, they were deep, deep down
1:05
in the very blue, clear
1:08
ocean off the coast
1:11
of Australia. This was
1:13
a beautiful place for any
1:15
dolphin to live in a place
1:18
that was full of adventure. I'm
1:21
gonna catch you, Mateo. Get back here,
1:23
shouted Dominic as he turned a corner
1:26
and tried to catch up to Mateo. And
1:28
then out of nowhere, Mateo
1:31
the great speed dolphin zoomed
1:34
out of the water wow,
1:37
and jumped right over Dominic
1:40
his head watched above as
1:42
Mateo soared through the air
1:44
above the ocean, and
1:47
then, with a giant splash,
1:50
Mateo finished his double backflip.
1:53
Holy smokes, Thallas, that
1:56
was the coolest thing I've ever seen, shouted
1:58
Dominic. Have you ever we're seen dolphins
2:01
do flips like that before? Yeah,
2:04
they're pretty much like the gymnasts
2:07
of the ocean. Have you ever
2:09
done a sumrsault or a cartwheel
2:12
or maybe even a real flip before.
2:15
I definitely don't know how to do
2:17
that, but that looks really
2:20
fun. It would be a lot easier
2:22
to try it on a trampoline and jump
2:25
really high, right, Yeah,
2:27
well, they don't have trampolines under the
2:29
ocean, and that is why dolphins
2:32
are such powerful swimmers.
2:34
They push their tails super fast
2:36
back and forth, and then they can zoom
2:39
out of the water and do some really
2:41
cool moves in the air. After
2:43
several more hours of playing
2:45
their game of tag, it was
2:48
finally time to head home. Wow,
2:52
Matela, that was such a cool game.
2:54
You're so fast, said Dominic.
2:57
Oh wow, thanks, you're fast too, Dominic
2:59
said Matteo. I can't wait to
3:01
play. You want to do something tomorrow?
3:04
Yeah, I'll check with my mom, but I'm pretty sure
3:06
we're available. That sounds fun, said
3:08
Dominic. He waved his fin goodbye
3:10
as he swam back towards his house, ate
3:13
a delicious dinner, and then started getting
3:15
ready for bed. Oh
3:18
mom, we had so much for
3:21
today, said Dominic with a
3:23
big yawn. We were zooming
3:25
around and oh, we're just
3:28
getting faster and faster, and Manteo did a
3:30
double backflip. It was insane,
3:33
said Dominic. Wow he
3:36
did a double backflip, said
3:38
Dominic's mom. That is pretty
3:41
impressive. Do you think I can
3:43
play with them again tomorrow morning. I
3:46
don't see why not, said his mom. I'm
3:48
glad that you have such good friends. Me
3:51
too, said Dominic as he closed
3:53
his eyes and fell asleep, well
3:56
kind of a sleep. You see, when dolphins
3:58
sleep, there really only
4:00
half asleep because they still need
4:03
to come up for air. Remember,
4:05
dolphins are mammals, so they
4:07
don't breathe water like
4:10
fish to I know, it's kind
4:12
of confusing and surprising, but yeah,
4:14
dolphins breathe air just like
4:16
us, so
4:20
they have to come up for air. That's
4:22
why they have that little hole on the top of their head
4:25
that helps them breathe the air that
4:27
they need to survive. The next
4:29
morning, Dominic woke up with a big
4:31
yarn. Good
4:38
morning, Dominic said his
4:40
mom. Oh, good morning, Mom.
4:42
Oh all right, well, I gotta
4:45
get ready. I think my friends are
4:47
gonna be waiting for me at the Coral
4:49
playground. Ooh, the coral
4:51
playground. That sounds fun, said
4:54
mom. But just remember
4:56
to not go too far out there because it gets very
4:58
sharp. Mom. Bye,
5:01
love you. Dominic waved
5:03
his fins goodbyes. He swam off to meet
5:05
up with his friends at the Coral playground.
5:08
Hey, Abigail, Hey Adam,
5:10
Dominic called out to his friends, who were
5:12
already there playing. So should
5:15
we play speed dolphin
5:17
today? I saw that the radar
5:20
is up over in the neighborhood over there,
5:22
or we could practice racing.
5:25
What do you want to do? The
5:27
radar that he's talking about, have you ever
5:29
seen in on some streets
5:32
on the side of the street. It'll tell
5:34
you how fast your car is going. Yes,
5:37
it has something called a radar on it that
5:39
detects the speed dolphins.
5:42
They love to go fast, and so in their
5:44
neighborhood they had that radar
5:46
was there to help slow down the dolphins,
5:48
so they didn't go too fast zooming through the
5:50
neighborhoods. But sometimes
5:53
the kids they like to test and see how
5:55
fast they could really go, which
5:57
was kind of against the rules of the neighborhood.
6:00
Uh oh, yeah, let's play speed,
6:02
dolphin, said Adam. I
6:04
want to see if I can break my top
6:06
speed of all time with that radar. Come
6:09
on. Dominic didn't feel
6:12
really good about this because
6:15
he knew that they weren't supposed to be racing
6:18
in the neighborhood with that radar, but
6:20
he followed his friends over there. All
6:23
right, who's gonna go first, said
6:26
Matteo. Uh I will,
6:28
shouted Adam. Step aside, Watch
6:31
how fast I can glide through the
6:33
water one, two, three
6:36
fall. Adam
6:39
took off, swimming as fast as he could
6:41
towards that radar, and as the numbers
6:43
ticked up, he swam as faster and faster
6:45
and faster, and all of a sudden he hit
6:49
nineteen miles per hour.
6:52
Holy smokes. They were all clapping
6:54
their fins, just like a good
6:56
dolphin can. That was
6:58
pretty impressive. But watch this,
7:01
shouted Abigail. She zoomed
7:04
past, and she made it
7:06
in twenty miles per hour.
7:08
That was a new record,
7:10
the fastest speed they'd ever
7:13
seen. Woo, great
7:15
job, Abigail. They all shouted.
7:18
All right, my turn, my turn. Step aside,
7:21
said Matteo as he stepped
7:23
up and started swimming as fast
7:25
as he could. He was the fastest
7:28
of them all and they
7:31
couldn't believe it. As he zoomed past the
7:34
radar, it said, twenty
7:36
two miles per hour, a new
7:39
record. Yeah.
7:42
As all the dolphins started cheering
7:44
and cheering, they saw
7:46
somebody off in the distance. Hey
7:50
are you kids racing that radar?
7:53
You're not supposed to do that. Come on over
7:55
here, let's get out
7:57
of here, all the dolphins
8:00
and started swimming away as fast
8:02
as they could. They did not want to get caught.
8:06
Oh no, it gonna be. It's so much trouble,
8:10
said Dominic as him and his friends
8:12
were trying to swim away as fast as they could.
8:14
They were going as fast and far as
8:17
they could. They didn't even know which direction they
8:19
were swimming. Okay, okay,
8:21
I think we're they were far and Offlets
8:24
slow down, said Dominic as they
8:26
all stopped and turned around. Where
8:29
are we, said Abigail. I've
8:33
never been this far, said
8:35
mateo out. Wow,
8:38
what is that, said
8:40
Adam. Oh, that is a really
8:43
sharp coral? Holy smokes,
8:45
guys, are we in the
8:48
sharp coral field? Really far
8:50
away from our neighborhood. Dominic
8:52
was starting to panic. They were
8:54
not supposed to go all the way
8:57
out this far because it's really
8:59
dangerous. Coral can be very
9:01
sharp for a dolphin. It
9:04
can scratch them and
9:07
make them very hurt. As
9:09
these four dolphin friends spun
9:11
around in circles, they all
9:13
looked at each other and realized
9:16
that they were very lost and
9:18
far away from where they were supposed
9:20
to be. Oh no,
9:23
what in the world is gonna happen with Dominic
9:25
and all of his dolphin friends. It sounds
9:28
like they didn't make some good choices and
9:30
now they're lost. We're gonna have to wait
9:32
and see what happens on the next episode of
9:35
Kids Animal Stories. Great
9:42
job, you listened all the way to the
9:45
end. And did you know that dolphins
9:47
could swim that fast? Wow?
9:51
They are super duper fast.
9:54
They can swim three times faster
9:56
than the fastest person swimming.
9:59
Holy, that's fast. And did
10:01
you know that when they sleep they keep
10:03
half of their brain awake? Yeah?
10:06
So remember so that they can breathe
10:08
while they're sleeping, because they have to come up to the
10:11
top of the water and take a breath and then go
10:14
back to sleep. Well, friends,
10:16
I hope you have a super duper
10:18
day and I will see you next time. Bye.
