4:00

They spent time during youth group together,

4:02

they hung out outside of the church.

4:04

They really were each other's ride or

4:06

die friendships. And each one of them

4:09

had a little bit of a different

4:11

personality. Kelly was known to be

4:13

more on the quiet side. She was a little

4:15

bit more reserved. And then you

4:17

had Heidi, who was much more

4:20

outgoing. She definitely was the

4:22

one who was friends with everyone. She

4:24

was a little spunky. She had a

4:26

little bit of an edge to her,

4:28

but she was always including and welcoming

4:30

to everyone around. And

4:32

then you had Rachel, who has

4:35

described herself as almost the wild

4:37

child of the group. And like

4:39

I said, the three of them

4:41

were inseparable. They actually called themselves

4:43

Charlie's Angels. They were always spending

4:45

time together with one another and

4:47

making new memories. Sometimes it

4:49

is very difficult as a trio of a

4:51

friend group, especially a trio of girls to

4:55

not get jealous of one another or

4:57

to not, you know, feel like other

4:59

people might have closer friendships than you

5:01

do. The bonds sometimes tend

5:03

to get threatened in a trio

5:05

friend group, but this one did

5:08

not have that. The

5:10

three of them, like I said, were

5:12

inseparable and all had that same bond

5:14

and love for each other and their

5:17

friendship. Now while the girls

5:19

were teenagers, they ended up going to

5:21

a summer camp one year. And

5:24

this was called Discovery Country

5:26

Camp in Columbus, Texas. Now

5:29

this was a church summer camp. So

5:31

they were all going to go to

5:33

church camp and Kelly, Heidi, and Rachel

5:35

were all very excited to hear that

5:37

they had the opportunity to go to

5:39

this church camp. Because again, not only

5:41

was their faith really important to them,

5:43

and if they were going to go

5:45

to camp, they wanted it to be

5:47

somewhere where they can continue practicing their

5:49

faith and instilling those Christian values. It

5:51

was again, very, very important to them,

5:53

but also they were excited because it

5:55

meant the three of them got to

5:57

go together. They got to create new

5:59

memories. she

10:00

was pregnant with their first

10:02

child. Now as I mentioned

10:04

earlier, Heidi was very, very

10:07

passionate about her faith and so

10:09

because she found out she was

10:11

pregnant without being married, she was

10:14

very worried about how the public

10:16

was going to perceive this pregnancy.

10:18

She didn't know if she was

10:20

going to be judged, she didn't

10:22

know how people were going to

10:24

react, however she herself was so

10:27

excited to become a mom. Once

10:29

Heidi had her son, she felt

10:31

like her true purpose was being

10:33

a mother. She loved her son

10:35

more than anything and she was

10:37

completely dedicated and devoted to being

10:39

the best mom that she possibly

10:41

could. Now after her son was

10:43

born, Heidi and Shane decided that

10:46

they were going to take a

10:48

move and move to Austin, Texas.

10:50

A big reason for this was because Heidi

10:52

and Shane really just wanted to start a

10:55

new chapter in their lives. Heidi specifically had

10:57

lived in Louisiana all of her life and

10:59

she wanted something new. She wanted something

11:01

different, she wanted her son to be

11:03

able to grow up in a different

11:05

environment that she did and so because

11:07

of that, that is why they moved

11:09

to Austin, Texas. But even though everything

11:11

was looking picture perfect on the outside,

11:14

as we all know, typically that

11:16

is not the case behind closed

11:18

doors. When Heidi and Shane moved

11:21

to Austin, Texas, their relationship really

11:23

started to get a little bit

11:25

rocky. They had a tumultuous relationship.

11:28

It was very on and off.

11:30

They were breaking up and making up

11:32

time and time again. They really were

11:34

the epitome of the on and off

11:36

couple that I'm sure most of us

11:38

know. We all know that one couple,

11:40

they were consistently on and off, however

11:43

the love was always there and Heidi

11:45

and Shane were both dedicated to making

11:47

their family work for the sake of

11:49

their son but also for the sake

11:51

of themselves. They really truly did love

11:53

each other and they were fighting for

11:55

their relationship. Now Heidi did become pregnant

11:57

a second time after moving to Austin.

12:00

Austin, Texas. And this was also

12:02

an unexpected pregnancy. Now in the

12:04

beginning of this pregnancy, Heidi was

12:06

very anxious. She didn't know what

12:08

the future of her and Shane's

12:10

relationship was going to look like

12:12

at that point because again, they

12:14

were very on and off at

12:16

that time. And at this time

12:18

when she got pregnant, she wasn't

12:20

surrounded by her family. During her

12:22

first pregnancy, she had her friends,

12:25

she had her parents, and this

12:27

time she was in Austin, Texas

12:29

really by herself. And so because

12:31

of this, she really decided that

12:33

she needed to lean on other

12:35

friends in her life. She needed

12:37

to be able to have that

12:39

support considering she was outside of

12:41

where she was comfortable in. So

12:43

because of this at this time,

12:45

Heidi really turned back to Carissa

12:47

and Meghan, the two friends from

12:49

summer camp. Now Carissa and

12:52

Meghan at the time were still

12:54

living in Texas and the three

12:56

of them got very close. Carissa

12:58

was a little bit further out.

13:00

She wasn't as close physically to

13:02

Heidi as Meghan was. However, the

13:05

three would always chitchat. They were

13:07

always talking, but Meghan and Heidi

13:09

were seeing each other very, very

13:11

frequently. And after some

13:13

time passed and Heidi was really spending

13:15

a lot of time with Meghan doing

13:17

different activities, hanging out all the time,

13:20

she really started to feel better. Her

13:22

spirits were lifted and she began feeling

13:24

very, very excited and hopeful for the

13:26

future. At this point, her and Shane

13:28

were back in a really, really great

13:30

spot. All of Heidi's friends said that

13:33

at this point, Shane really stepped up

13:35

to the plate in their relationship and

13:37

became the man that Heidi always wanted

13:39

him to be. He was there for

13:41

her, he supported her, and it seemed

13:43

like their relationship was now on a

13:46

very good and healthy track. So they

13:48

were in a really great spot. So

13:50

everything seemed to be going very, very

13:52

well at this point. Heidi had her

13:54

girls, she had her friends who were

13:56

supporting her. She was pregnant. They were

13:58

expecting another baby. She had her son.

14:01

And now her and Shane are doing

14:03

very well too. But the good news

14:05

didn't stop there because Heidi was thrilled,

14:08

absolutely over the moon, when

14:10

she heard that Meghan was

14:12

also pregnant. Meghan announced her

14:14

pregnancy only a few weeks

14:16

after Heidi announced hers. And

14:18

the biggest shock with all

14:20

of it was when Meghan

14:23

said that her and Heidi

14:25

actually had the same due

14:27

date. Now, you might be

14:29

sitting here wondering, who was the

14:31

father of Meghan's baby? Well, Meghan

14:33

had an on and off boyfriend

14:36

at the time named Chris. And

14:38

the two were not dating for

14:40

very long, so it was unexpected

14:42

that Meghan was now pregnant. However,

14:44

everyone was still very, very excited

14:46

for her in this new chapter

14:48

of their lives. And Meghan and

14:50

Heidi were especially excited because this

14:52

meant that not only were they

14:55

best friends, but they were about

14:57

to have babies at the same time.

14:59

They got to experience being pregnant together.

15:01

It was just a lot of excitement

15:03

filling the air. Now, despite all of

15:05

this excitement that was going on, the

15:08

relationship between Meghan and her boyfriend Chris

15:10

was definitely a rocky one. The two

15:12

of them were together technically, but they

15:14

really didn't spend a lot of time

15:16

together. They even lived on opposite sides

15:19

of the house, so they didn't see

15:21

each other very often. And Chris traveled

15:23

a lot for work, so he was

15:25

not a home a lot to begin

15:27

with. And so because

15:29

of this, Meghan really started leaning on

15:31

Heidi. There was times where Heidi leaned

15:33

on Meghan. Meghan was now leaning on

15:35

Heidi for support because she claimed that

15:37

she was scared about what the future

15:39

was going to look like if she

15:41

was going to be a single mother,

15:44

how she was going to navigate that.

15:46

She really confided in Heidi during all

15:48

of this and turned to Heidi for

15:50

support. And Heidi felt a

15:52

lot of compassion for Meghan. She knew what

15:54

it felt like to be in a rocky

15:56

relationship. And Heidi really tried to be there

15:58

to support Meghan in every way. she could.

16:00

She told her that no matter what,

16:02

she always had a place to stay,

16:05

she always had somewhere to go. Heidi

16:07

would always be there for her no

16:09

matter what the future looked like, whether

16:11

she was with Chris or not with

16:13

Chris. So now we move

16:15

on to nine months later, November 26, 2019,

16:19

Heidi gave birth to her daughter. She

16:21

was a healthy baby and everyone was

16:24

thrilled. Now Megan, who was very far

16:26

along in her pregnancy at this point,

16:28

because like I said, her and Heidi

16:30

had the same due date. She was

16:32

very far along, but she really wanted

16:35

to be there for Heidi when she

16:37

gave birth to her daughter. So she

16:39

drove down from Houston to Austin to

16:41

be there for Heidi when she had

16:43

her baby. Now Heidi was

16:45

very appreciative of the fact that Megan

16:47

came. She really loved the fact that

16:49

her friend was there to support her.

16:51

And because of this, Heidi and Shane

16:53

decided that they wanted Megan to stay

16:56

at their apartment for the night while

16:58

they were at the hospital because the

17:00

two of them didn't want Megan to

17:02

have to worry about driving back to

17:04

Houston that night while she was so

17:06

pregnant. They thought it would be better

17:08

if Megan just stayed the night at

17:10

their apartment. And that is exactly what

17:12

Megan did. Now two weeks later, two

17:14

weeks after Heidi had her daughter on

17:16

December 6, 2019,

17:19

Megan herself announced that she had

17:21

also given birth to her daughter

17:23

named Luna. Now this was very

17:25

exciting because if you think about

17:27

it, it's very picturesque. It's very

17:29

storybook. The fact that Megan and

17:32

Heidi, who are best friends, now

17:34

have two daughters who they get

17:36

to raise and they're going to

17:38

be best friends, it all seemed

17:40

almost too good to be true.

17:43

But regardless, everyone was so thrilled

17:45

for this new chapter. But things

17:47

began to change several days later

17:49

on December 12, 2019, when Heidi

17:51

never made it to pick her

17:53

son up from school. On

17:56

the afternoon of December 12, 2019, Shane

17:58

began calling for a call. calling around

18:00

to different friends in the area asking

18:02

if anyone had seen or heard

18:05

from Heidi because it was very unlike her

18:07

to not pick up their son.

18:09

That was something that she always did. She

18:11

would have never missed picking up her son

18:13

from school. Heidi's mom, Tammy,

18:16

also began calling around asking the

18:18

same thing. However, no one had

18:20

heard from Heidi. Now, this was

18:22

obviously very worrisome for several factors.

18:25

However, the biggest one being not

18:27

only could no one find Heidi,

18:29

but no one could find their

18:32

newborn daughter either. Heidi's

18:34

daughter was only about three weeks old

18:36

at this time. So her and Heidi

18:38

did everything together. Heidi was taking her

18:40

everywhere. If she needed to drop her

18:42

son off at school or pick her

18:44

son up from school, anything that Heidi

18:46

was doing, she was at the phase

18:48

where she was constantly bringing her daughter

18:50

with her. So the fact that no

18:52

one had heard from Heidi meant that

18:54

no one knew where her and Shane's

18:56

daughter were either. So now both of

18:58

them are missing. At this point, Shane

19:00

decided not to waste any time. And

19:02

he called the police department to file

19:04

a missing persons report on

19:06

Heidi and his daughter. Now the following

19:09

day, the police brought Shane in to

19:11

conduct a more in-depth interview with him.

20:48

during this interview, Shane gave his timeline

20:50

of events from the day before, the

20:53

12th, which was the last day that

20:55

anyone saw or heard from Heidi. According

20:58

to Shane, he claimed that this morning started

21:01

off like any normal morning. He woke up

21:03

at 6.30am and left the

21:05

apartment for work. Heidi left

21:07

to take their son to school and

21:10

called Shane when she got back to

21:12

the apartment around 8.30 and nothing seemed

21:14

out of the ordinary. After

21:17

Shane got off work, Shane tried calling

21:19

Heidi, but he wasn't getting an

21:21

answer. He then went back

21:23

to the apartment after work and

21:25

noticed that Heidi's car was still

21:28

in the parking spot, which definitely

21:30

made him feel a little uneasy.

21:32

When he went up to the apartment,

21:35

he realized that the apartment door was

21:37

unlocked. He claimed that when he got

21:39

into the apartment, no one was in

21:42

there. Heidi was gone and

21:44

their daughter was gone as well. Now

21:46

even though the two of them were gone, nothing

21:48

seemed out of place in the apartment.

21:51

It wasn't ransacked, it didn't seem in

21:53

any sort of disarray, and everything was

21:55

in the apartment that needed to be

21:58

all of the baby bottles. the

22:00

baby clothes, the diapers, the wipes, everything

22:02

was there. So Shane initially thought

22:04

maybe Heidi took the baby for

22:06

a walk, maybe she's walking around

22:08

the apartment complex with the baby,

22:10

maybe she went to go talk

22:13

to a neighbor, show the neighbors

22:15

the new baby. There were other

22:17

things that were running through his

22:19

mind before he started to really,

22:21

really worry that something could be

22:23

wrong. It really wasn't until

22:25

sometime later when Shane started to get

22:27

worried because Heidi was not coming back

22:29

to the apartment and her car again

22:32

was still in the parking spot. It

22:34

was getting closer and closer to the

22:36

time where her son would need to

22:38

be picked up from school and Shane

22:40

noticed that the only things that were

22:43

missing from the apartment were Heidi's purse

22:45

and her car keys. But even though

22:47

the car keys were gone, the car

22:49

again was still in that parking spot.

22:51

Shane wondered if maybe there was some

22:54

mix-up, some misunderstanding. So he decided that

22:56

he was going to go to his

22:58

son's school himself and pretty much stake

23:00

out there during the time that his

23:02

son was supposed to be picked up

23:04

to see if Heidi was going to

23:06

come and get their son. So he

23:08

got there and waited for some time.

23:11

However, Heidi still never showed up. And

23:13

this is when the concern really started

23:15

to set in because this has been

23:17

Shane realized that he did not know

23:19

where Heidi was and he did not

23:21

know where his daughter was. And

23:24

he also knew as did everyone

23:26

else that Heidi would not miss

23:28

picking up her son from school

23:30

unless something was very, very wrong.

23:33

So at this point, Shane claims that

23:35

he grabbed his son from school and

23:37

brought him back to the apartment. And

23:39

that is when he began making phone

23:41

calls around asking if anyone had seen

23:44

or heard from Heidi. However, no one

23:46

had. When Heidi's friends

23:48

began hearing that no one knew where

23:50

Heidi was, it definitely caused a lot

23:52

of concern because everyone knew that this

23:54

was very much unlike Heidi. She

23:56

would not just ignore everyone's calls

23:59

or texts. Her social media

24:01

seemed completely fine and no one

24:03

ever really questioned the theory of

24:05

Heidi just up and leaving without

24:07

telling anyone because they knew she

24:09

wouldn't leave behind her son. In

24:11

an alternate universe, if Heidi was

24:13

to leave, if she decided she

24:15

just wanted to get away, something

24:18

happened and she just wanted to

24:20

go, she would have taken her

24:22

son with her. Like I mentioned

24:24

earlier, being a mom was incredibly

24:26

important to Heidi. She wouldn't have

24:28

left behind her son. Now,

24:30

even though Shane was the one who

24:33

filed the missing persons report and he

24:35

was the one who staked outside of

24:37

the school to see if Heidi would

24:39

show up, people really started to point

24:42

their fingers at Shane when questioning who

24:44

would do something to Heidi. Heidi did

24:46

not have any known enemies. She was

24:49

not in any feuds with anyone. Heidi's

24:51

priorities in life were her friends, her

24:53

faith, and her family. She was not

24:55

one who was involved in drama or

24:58

starting feuds. Again, no one didn't like

25:00

Heidi. Heidi liked everyone and she had

25:02

tons and tons of people who loved

25:04

and supported her. So no one really

25:06

knew who would want to do something

25:08

like this to Heidi, who would want

25:10

to hurt Heidi. But again, time and

25:12

time again, as we see in these

25:14

types of cases, whenever anyone goes missing,

25:16

the first person that is automatically looked

25:18

at is the spouse, because that is

25:20

the pattern of behavior that we're used

25:22

to seeing. When a husband or a

25:24

wife or a boyfriend or a girlfriend

25:26

goes missing, the pattern that we see

25:28

is that the spouse or the

25:31

partner more often than not had

25:33

some sort of link, some sort

25:35

of connection. And because Shane and

25:38

Heidi had a previously tumultuous relationship,

25:40

people began to wonder if Shane

25:42

could have been responsible for this.

25:45

Police began looking more and more into

25:47

Shane's alibi. They looked to see when

25:49

he clocked in at work, when he

25:51

clocked out of work, they looked to

25:53

see if Heidi did in fact drop

25:56

their son off at school that morning

25:58

and everything seemed to check out. Everything

26:00

seemed to match the story that Shane

26:02

was saying. Now the one

26:04

thing that Shane was doing, which

26:06

was not helping his case, was

26:08

being very active in the media.

26:10

He was doing a lot of

26:12

interviews, he was doing a lot

26:14

of press, and a big reason

26:16

for this was because police were

26:18

encouraging everyone who knew Heidi to

26:21

get her name out there, get

26:23

her picture out there, get her

26:25

name out there, let people see

26:27

who Heidi is, because more than

26:29

likely someone knows something and they

26:31

may not even know it. So make

26:33

sure you're talking about her, make sure

26:35

you're getting the news out there for

26:37

her, make sure everything is being posted

26:40

out about Heidi. And for Shane, that

26:42

included doing interviews, it included doing press

26:44

and media. However, Shane's behavior in front

26:46

of the camera was definitely off-putting. While

26:49

being interviewed, Shane was doing things like

26:51

laughing. He just didn't seem very genuine,

26:53

he didn't seem very engaged, and people

26:56

were really tearing him down because of

26:58

this, because it was easy to

27:00

see that and think that he had to have something

27:02

to do with it. And again, you have to look

27:04

at the timeframe here. We're looking at 2019. Just

27:08

about a little over a year before

27:10

this is when the Chris Watts case

27:12

took place and people were starting to

27:14

see the similarities. They were seeing Chris

27:16

doing media interviews, now they're seeing Shane

27:19

doing media interviews, they're seeing Shane's behavior

27:21

be a little dicey. It seems a

27:23

little bit suspicious. So it was easy

27:25

for everyone to point the finger at

27:27

Shane. But regardless of his behavior in

27:30

the interviews, other than that,

27:32

there was really no other

27:34

evidence that was linking Shane

27:36

to Heidi's disappearance. There was

27:38

no physical evidence, there was

27:40

no circumstantial evidence, there was

27:42

nothing at all that linked

27:44

Shane to Heidi being missing.

27:47

Now at this point, the days are passing

27:49

and Heidi is missing for a week. Now

27:52

during that week of Heidi's disappearance, that

27:55

first initial week, police were speaking to

27:57

everyone who knew Heidi. They were talking

27:59

to her family, they were talking to

28:02

her family. friends and they started to

28:04

notice that there was a concerning pattern

28:06

in some of the things that the

28:09

family and the friends were saying. The

28:11

family and the friends were bringing up

28:13

Heidi's friend Megan. They claimed that Megan

28:16

was there for the birth of Heidi's

28:18

daughter and while she was there, she

28:20

was acting oddly possessive over Heidi and

28:23

the baby. It was said

28:25

by friends and family who were at

28:27

the hospital as well as the nurses

28:29

who were at the hospital that Megan

28:31

continuously tried to interject herself between the

28:33

baby and everyone else, whether that was

28:35

Shane, whether that was Heidi's parents. She

28:38

tried to be the one holding the

28:40

baby at all times. Anytime anyone else

28:42

wanted to hold the baby, she would

28:44

say a passive aggressive comment. She would

28:46

try and get them to change the

28:48

subject. She would try and keep holding

28:50

on to the baby. The behavior was

28:52

very, very strange. Other

28:54

people who were at the hospital claimed

28:57

that Megan was holding a pillow over

28:59

her stomach the entire time, which people

29:01

thought to be very strange because again

29:03

she was nine months pregnant but no

29:05

one really questioned it. It was just

29:07

something that was like, oh, that's

29:09

weird. Now when police were

29:12

talking to Shane, Shane said that in regards

29:14

to Megan, the day that Megan spent the

29:16

night at their apartment when she came to

29:18

see Heidi and she came to see the

29:20

baby, they gave her a key

29:22

to their apartment because again Shane was staying at

29:24

the hospital with Heidi. Shane gave Megan the key,

29:26

said go stay the night at the apartment. You

29:28

don't need to drive all the way back to

29:31

Houston tonight and Megan seemed very appreciative and said

29:33

that she would leave the apartment key on

29:36

the counter. However, Shane claimed that

29:38

the following day the key was

29:40

not there and he never saw

29:42

it again. Now the things that

29:44

people were saying about Megan were

29:46

definitely raising alarm bells for police

29:49

and they definitely were starting to

29:51

hone in on the idea that

29:53

Megan could have somehow been tied

29:55

to this case. They ended up

29:57

talking to And

30:00

on the day that Heidi went

30:02

missing, on December 12th, one neighbor

30:05

claimed that they saw Heidi hugging

30:07

a woman who matched Meghan's description

30:09

outside of Heidi's apartment. There

30:12

was also another neighbor who

30:14

claimed that they saw Heidi

30:16

and her newborn daughter get

30:18

into a light colored four-door

30:20

vehicle with the woman who

30:22

matched Meghan's description. Now

30:25

at this point, police knew that they wanted to

30:27

talk to Meghan. They began looking more into Meghan

30:29

and who she was and learned that

30:32

she had a four-door light

30:34

colored car, so the dots are

30:36

beginning to connect. Meghan

30:38

became the primary suspect at this

30:40

point in this investigation. While

30:43

police are trying to gain as much

30:45

information as they can on Meghan, they

30:47

decide to put surveillance on Meghan's home

30:50

in Houston, Texas. Now when

30:52

they did that, one specific day,

30:54

they saw Meghan's boyfriend Chris leave

30:57

the home. He got into his car and

30:59

he left the home and he drove

31:02

to a Target store. Now

31:04

police stayed in the parking lot as

31:06

they saw Chris walk into the store

31:08

and then walk out with bags filled

31:11

of baby supplies. Now while Chris was

31:13

putting the bags into the back of

31:15

his car, police saw their in and

31:17

they took it. They ended up approaching

31:20

Chris and really explained what was going

31:22

on. When police explained

31:24

that Meghan's best friend Heidi was

31:26

missing, explained that Meghan and Heidi

31:29

were very close, and really was

31:31

just asking him about his newborn

31:33

daughter, Chris's daughter in general, Chris

31:35

was very, very confused. Chris

31:38

told police that he had just had

31:40

a baby with his girlfriend, however he

31:42

was not there for the

31:44

birth. He claimed that Meghan had their

31:47

daughter while he was out of town

31:49

and she just brought the baby home.

31:52

Chris also claimed that he just had to assume

31:54

that Meghan was pregnant because he took her word

31:56

for it. He claimed that the two were living

31:58

at the opposite sides of the house. the

32:00

house, they were not sexually involved

32:02

so he never saw her bare

32:04

stomach. He never saw her without

32:06

clothes on, so he just assumed

32:09

that she was pregnant because again

32:11

that's what she told him. Now

32:14

police at this point showed Chris

32:16

a picture of Heidi and Shane's

32:18

newborn daughter and that is when

32:20

Chris confirmed that the daughter and

32:22

the girl in the picture was

32:25

the same baby that was at

32:27

his house, the same baby that

32:29

Megan claimed to be theirs. Now

32:32

at this point police knew that they

32:34

needed to act fast so they stopped

32:36

Chris from going home. They

32:39

told him do not go back to the

32:41

house, you're staying here and you're actually coming

32:43

down to the police station to answer more

32:45

questions but pretty automatically from the very beginning

32:47

police were confident in the fact that Chris

32:50

was not involved in this, they never thought

32:52

that Chris had anything to do with this,

32:54

they never believed that he was somehow tied

32:56

to this, he seemed just as confused as

32:58

everyone else if not more confused when he

33:01

was being told what was going on. Now

33:03

at this point back at Megan's home,

33:06

the officers who were surveillanceing the house

33:08

storm through the doors and

33:10

arrest Megan. Now quickly

33:13

when they do that they discover

33:15

the baby as well. They

33:17

remove the baby from the home

33:19

and the entire time Megan is

33:22

kicking and screaming saying that that

33:24

is her child, that is her

33:26

daughter. However DNA tests confirm that

33:28

the baby that was in Megan's

33:31

house was in fact Heidi and

33:33

Shane's daughter. Regardless of what DNA

33:35

was saying, Megan said

33:38

it's not true. Megan claimed that that

33:40

was still her daughter, that was still

33:42

her baby, the tests were wrong, she

33:44

was adamant in the fact that this

33:46

was her daughter. Now when police began

33:48

asking Megan some questions like when was

33:50

the baby born, where did you have

33:52

this baby, can we see the birth

33:55

certificate? Megan claimed that she had the

33:57

baby in a birth center, however she

33:59

claimed she did not remember what the

34:01

name of the birth center was. She

34:03

also claimed that she didn't know where

34:05

the birth center was. She

34:07

claimed that the only person that

34:09

was there for the birth of

34:11

her daughter were the doctors and

34:13

nurses, which she also claimed she

34:16

did not know the names of.

34:18

So everyone was pretty SOL when

34:20

it came to Meghan giving any

34:22

information about where she had her

34:24

baby. But of course everyone knew

34:26

that the reason for that was

34:28

because that this was not Meghan's

34:30

baby. Now,

34:33

while there were some officers who were

34:35

talking to Meghan and having this conversation

34:37

with her, other officers were canvassing the

34:39

rest of the home to try and

34:41

see if they could find Heidi. Now,

34:44

while some officers were walking through

34:46

the driveway of the home and

34:48

passing Meghan's car, they were

34:51

stopped in their tracks by a pungent

34:53

smell of what they knew to be

34:55

a decaying body.

34:58

The police requested a search warrant

35:00

for Meghan's vehicle. And once that

35:02

was obtained, they opened the trunk

35:05

and inside of the trunk was

35:07

a duffel bag. And inside of

35:09

the duffel bag was Heidi's body.

35:12

It was clear to police almost immediately

35:14

that Heidi had been strangled to death.

35:16

The medical examiner did confirm this by

35:19

concluding that the cause of death was

35:21

strangulation. And it is believed that Heidi

35:23

was strangled with some sort of leash

35:26

or rope, as well

35:28

as hands. So she was strangled

35:30

with both. Now Meghan

35:32

was immediately arrested that day and she

35:35

was charged with two counts of kidnapping

35:37

and one count of tampering with a

35:39

corpse. Now on February 22nd, which

35:43

was just last year Meghan pled

35:45

guilty to first degree murder. And

35:47

she was sentenced to 55 years

35:50

in prison. Now

35:52

this sentence, if you think that it is

35:55

a little too short, why didn't she get

35:57

life in prison? The sentence was the result

35:59

of a plea deal. Meghan basically just took

36:01

a deal to get a lesser sentence. Now

36:04

Meghan herself has never publicly talked

36:06

about this case. She's never talked

36:08

about what her motive was or

36:10

why she did what she did.

36:12

She's never been public with the

36:14

details surrounding this case. However, police

36:17

have their own set of theories

36:19

as well as the public as

36:21

well. The public has their own

36:23

set of theories. The police believe

36:25

that Meghan kidnapped Heidi's baby in

36:27

order to continue having Chris as

36:30

her boyfriend. It's believed that she

36:32

kidnapped the baby and murdered Heidi

36:34

in order to keep Chris. Whether

36:37

this was because Meghan simply wanted to

36:39

become a mother and felt like this

36:42

was the only way that she could

36:44

do it or if this is because

36:46

she felt like having a baby would

36:48

keep Chris around, that is what is

36:51

believed to be the motive. However, Heidi's

36:53

friends believe that from the very beginning,

36:55

Meghan had a certain possessiveness and obsessiveness

36:58

about Heidi. Whether that's she wanted to

37:00

be Heidi or wanted the life

37:02

that Heidi had, there was something

37:04

in Meghan that always sought out Heidi

37:06

and this goes all the way

37:08

back to church camp. And when you

37:11

think about it, going back that many

37:13

years, the eeriness that comes about from

37:15

thinking that Meghan could have been

37:17

plotting and planning for God knows how

37:20

long to do this to Heidi. Police

37:22

believe that when Meghan went down to

37:24

see Heidi give birth to her

37:26

daughter, that is when she initially began

37:29

planning the murder of Heidi. However, others

37:31

believe that this has been in the

37:33

works for much longer than that because

37:35

as we know, Meghan

37:37

was never pregnant. Meghan

37:40

was never pregnant. So for those

37:42

nine months of pretending to be pregnant with

37:44

Heidi, she knew that at some

37:47

point she was going to have to have

37:49

some sort of baby to prove that she

37:51

was in fact pregnant, to prove that she

37:53

was having a baby. She wasn't lying. She

37:55

was going to be a mother. So she

37:58

knew she needed to produce. for the

38:00

lack of a better word, some baby.

38:02

She needed to show up with a

38:04

baby. She needed to show everyone that

38:07

she did have a daughter. And in

38:09

her mind, she felt like the only way

38:11

to do that was to go after the

38:14

one woman who had been there for her

38:16

all of her life. The one woman who

38:18

stood up for her, the one woman who

38:20

defended her, the one woman who wanted her

38:23

to feel included and loved and supported. That

38:25

is the woman that Megan went after. I'm
