I'm Greg Miller, alongside the master

0:04

of hype, SnowBike Mike. Greg,

0:07

here's the deal. I

0:09

don't want to derail the show already, but I

0:11

have to. Okay, here I am, listening to you

0:13

on a lovely Monday. Don't

0:16

forget to subscribe to the show. I'm Greg Miller, and

0:18

I'm going to be your host for the last episode

0:20

of SnowBike Mike. I'm Greg Miller, and I'm going to

0:22

be your host for the last episode of SnowBike Mike.

0:27

I'm listening to you on a

0:29

lovely Monday, July 1st, the day

0:31

after Tim's fantastic wedding

0:33

weekend. And I get no respect

0:35

put on my name. Okay, you

0:37

go the Elden Ring, excitement, jabroni,

0:39

the man who loves Elden Ring,

0:42

Andy Cortez and Barrett Courtney. I'm

0:45

the soul's born king in this office. I heard

0:47

of the same thing. I beat Sekiro, shadows died

0:49

twice. Barrett hasn't done that.

0:51

Okay, I beat Dark Souls. Mike, have you

0:53

planned a Elden Ring? I beat

0:56

Dark Souls 2. Let the man have the floor.

0:58

I beat Dark Souls 2, Andy Cortez hasn't done

1:00

that. Beat Dark Souls

1:02

1, blessing out of Yo-Yo Junior, hasn't done

1:05

that. Okay, in 2019, a

1:08

game was released about the wolf protecting the

1:10

air to the throne. And you don't even

1:12

know about that. And you put no respect

1:14

on my name, on my lineage. And I'm

1:16

just so excited about it. I'm so excited

1:18

about it right now. Who's the first one

1:20

here to beat Sekiro? I

1:22

just want to give you one hint. I released it.

1:30

I was, spot

1:56

it his

2:00

office, Mike's name comes first. It's political. And I

2:02

didn't want to start this show like that. I

2:04

wanted to be happy. I wanted to have some

2:06

good Monday vibes, but you did this. You

2:09

fucked this up, Greg. When

2:11

did you beat Sekiro? Wow. You

2:14

never talk about it. Two days ago.

2:16

I mean, I wouldn't say that he beat it.

2:18

I'd say that he destroyed it. Oh my God.

2:21

Did I two-time the Guardian Apes, Greg? Okay. Did

2:23

I five-time? Actually, it was

2:25

a Ganichiro that you two-tied, but Guardian

2:28

Ape wasn't. Come on, Guardian Ape was

2:30

four-time. Okay. Did I fight

2:32

the owl? My father? Andy?

2:35

Don't, eh? The tape is there. Okay. I believe

2:37

you took six hours to beat the demon of

2:39

hatred. How many times did it take me, Andy?

2:42

Oh, you're right. You're right. Okay. Where

2:45

are you? Where are you? I think pick up the

2:47

phone. You're not dialed in like I am. Where are you, Andy? There's

2:49

lots of them. We started the show. I didn't even want this. I

2:51

didn't want to do it like that. This is your fault, Greg, for

2:53

doing that. I don't like this energy. You put us here. Control, I

2:55

think, was my game of the year. Yeah, I knew it would be.

2:57

Yeah. Yeah. Unbelievable.

3:00

Stupid idiot. What's up,

3:02

everybody? Welcome to the Con of Funny Games. It's for

3:04

Monday, July 1st, 2024. I'm

3:07

one of your hosts, Greg Miller,

3:09

alongside the master of the Soulsborne

3:12

games, the man who most recently

3:14

beat Sekiro, Shadows Die Twice, the

3:16

man who two-time, two-time, two-time, who

3:19

wasn't Andy? I already forgot, the

3:21

monkey. Gini Chiro. Not

3:24

Guardian Ape. I'm Gini Chiro. It's no

3:26

Mike, Mike. Good

3:28

morning, Greg Miller. Happy Monday. It's great to see

3:30

your smile and face. I already missed you, Andy,

3:32

Bless, and Baird after an awesome wedding weekend. I

3:35

wish we could spend all weekend together, but I'm

3:37

happy to be back at work, because I love

3:39

it here. I fucking hate work from home. Like,

3:41

I want to be there. I want to feel

3:43

your energy. You know what I mean? Thank you.

3:45

I love it. It's awesome. I mean, I understand

3:48

Tim did something Herculean, an amazing wedding. A wedding

3:50

will never see the likes of again, but couldn't

3:53

he have just stayed there on Sunday and rebuilt the

3:55

studio then? You know what I mean? Did Kevin really

3:57

have to get home to his... pregnant wife, they couldn't,

3:59

they just like, they probably shouldn't even have left Saturday

4:01

night. They probably should have said goodbye, everybody close it

4:04

down and then put it all back together so we

4:06

can come in and do this show. Because

4:08

it's upsetting, it's insulting. For someone who is as

4:11

accomplished as you are in the souls born genre, is

4:13

have to do this back from home. Because

4:16

I look on your back shelf at all the souls

4:18

born swag you have, you

4:20

got a. Well, as you know,

4:23

Andy- Malia Chief's helmet there. Yeah, Andy won't

4:25

let me keep the 18 inches of Mesmer

4:29

and I'm a little disappointed in him on that one. He won't let me

4:31

keep it, but I'll take it from him. I'll take it from him. Of

4:34

course, the man who won't let him take home 18

4:36

inches is his best friend. Of

4:38

course, he's the Hispanic heartthrob. He is Latino

4:40

heat, Texas heat, trash or trash. But I

4:43

already, you know how I did. I got,

4:45

again, first off, if you miss games daily,

4:47

I'm playing under a protest. Oh,

4:49

work from home garbage, so I'm gonna do

4:52

my worst performances of all time. Okay.

4:56

You're doing a Harrison Ford and Blade

4:58

Runner. I'm gonna act badly because I

5:00

don't like this voiceover. Exactly. Latino heat.

5:04

Clicking ads, ripping shreds, globe trodden, headshot.

5:06

Wait, but why is it, he's Latino? Oh,

5:08

Hispanic heartthrob, Texas treat, that's what I did

5:10

wrong. That's where it was. I jumped at

5:12

Latino heat. Right from the rip, yeah. Yeah,

5:15

all right. Anyways, it's Andy, everybody. Hey, everybody.

5:18

How you doing, Andy? Great. I

5:20

had a great time. Beat the DLC of Elden Ring for the

5:22

second time this weekend. I

5:25

had an awesome time, you know. I'm sure no one's

5:27

salty about that at all. So

5:30

you should, you know, I didn't wanna

5:32

start the money on this. Now Andy's

5:34

just rubbing it in me. What happened

5:36

here? You're best doing it at the

5:38

wedding. We start on Friday. We have

5:40

an incredible marathon stream. We play a

5:42

full week of Elden Ring DLC together.

5:44

I mean, we're playing the normal DLC,

5:47

a normal way of multiplayer. So you have to

5:49

beat everything twice. You gotta share your world. It's

5:51

just a nightmare, right? Sure. You go

5:53

all the way through it. We get to the final boss.

5:55

Me and Andy have one full night of

5:58

like five hours, getting wild and wacky. can't

6:00

do it. Then we go night number two and

6:02

we get to the end. And when you're supposed

6:04

to put down your controller with your best friend

6:06

and say, Hey, we'll come back to this later.

6:08

What does he do to me? Greg? Oh,

6:10

let me just see if I could play it by

6:13

myself with my mimics here. Then all of a sudden,

6:15

see, unlike him, Greg, where if I got that close

6:17

with anyone else, if I got that boss down to

6:19

5% out, I would die because

6:21

I'm not going to beat the game without my best

6:23

friend, but you know

6:25

what he does. You know what he does? No. Andy

6:27

Cortez. Oh, I think I'm going to beat this boss

6:30

and even his mimics here beat the boss without me.

6:32

Mike, do you need me to start the show again?

6:34

I don't want, why am I here right now? I'll

6:36

see you off of the twin stream. What am I

6:38

doing? Man, Andy, that seems like a harsh

6:40

thing. Are you going to go back and beat it with

6:43

him on his account? Of course. Yeah. The goat, we need

6:45

to get Steve, the source of beat this boss, but it

6:47

was just such a great reaction. I thought maybe like, you

6:49

know, you know, let me just try with a mimic tier.

6:51

We had Mike Minotti from giant bomb try to help us

6:53

out. And you know, we, we got really, really close a

6:55

couple of times. I was like, let me just see what's

6:57

up with my mimic tier. And suddenly it was like, I

7:00

think I might do this. And we, me

7:02

and the boss, boom, we traded. I died,

7:04

but it says, boom, God slain. And

7:07

Mike goes, fucking, I fucking hate you bro.

7:09

He's like, I'm out. See you later everybody.

7:11

Goodbye. I love you, but I fucking hate

7:13

you man. He's so

7:15

bad. He just cut everything off. It was a

7:18

great moment. It was the highlight of the weekend.

7:20

Honestly, running

7:22

out the quartet, he's Forbes 30 under

7:24

30 AKA the new York game awards nominated

7:29

AKA leftover poppy blessing

7:31

at the OYEC junior.

7:34

Morning, Greg. Good morning. Bless. And see,

7:36

as you see Andy and Mike tear each other apart here,

7:39

this is what I respect about you. Five

7:41

o'clock rolls around. You walk out of that office. You

7:43

don't talk to anybody. Going

7:46

around the table. It doesn't

7:48

need to be five o'clock. Let me, let me give it to

7:50

bless really quick. Three 30 hits. I

7:53

just want to give a shout out to bless

7:55

for being absolutely incredible. We were getting down on

7:58

the dance floor and blessing absolutely brought it. I

8:00

circled everybody up, we were dancing. And then I

8:02

told him, I said, all right, bless. Now you

8:04

gotta bring everybody together. And it got us all

8:06

together. We were bouncing, dancing. It was a great

8:09

time. So I love bless, not you, Andy, or

8:11

you, Greg right now. Fuck you. I

8:14

saw the video though. And I don't like how I looked in that

8:16

video. I'll be honest. At least Willems

8:18

caught the video of me doing some breakdancing on

8:20

the floor. And it always feels cooler than it

8:22

looks. Like watching it back, I'm

8:24

like, man, I'm old. I don't know. I thought it was

8:27

pretty sick. I turned 30 soon. Maybe tomorrow, I feel it.

8:30

This is one of those things that back, you're in the land

8:32

of the blind. You know what I mean? So it's just

8:34

like, you're out there doing something. Because as soon as this started,

8:37

me and all the other olds just went to the sidewalk

8:40

outside and drank. We just sat out there and drank

8:42

and talked. We knew what would happen. We knew what

8:44

would happen. You knew what would, you had to gather.

8:46

What I wanna do is give a shout out to,

8:50

I think of our team, the

8:54

two outfits that I appreciated the most. And

8:56

that was, of course, Andy Cortez and blessing

8:58

Eddie O'Yanny. You guys looked fired at this

9:00

wedding. I loved everything I saw. Thank you.

9:03

I appreciate it. Can we talk about what Mike wore? Yeah, can

9:05

we talk about my great outfit? The fact that he had a

9:07

black Superman shirt he always wears underneath it. Like he's ready to

9:09

go to bed at any second. Can we

9:11

not talk about my great outfit? Mike was barely

9:14

smart casual. Mike showed up like he was just

9:16

like fucking angry. Mike dressed like he was forced

9:18

to go to church with his

9:20

parents. Mike wanted to do

9:22

the West Side of something fake. He was at his friend's

9:24

house sleeping over and then forced to go to church. He

9:26

said aware like the big brother's outfit or whatever. He's

9:28

going to his younger cousin's communion. We're

9:31

gonna talk about that this week on the Kind of

9:33

Funny podcast. Wednesday in the afternoon will be all the

9:35

stories for our Kind of Funny members. Of course, later

9:37

on Thursday, I believe for everybody, but maybe Friday, maybe

9:39

I'm off on the actual date of posting publicly, but

9:41

it doesn't matter because you're probably a Kind of Funny

9:43

member. If you didn't know, with the

9:45

Kind of Funny membership, you get each one of our

9:48

shows ad free. You get the

9:50

ability to watch our afternoon podcast live as you

9:52

record them and of course be part of the

9:54

live chat. And you get a daily vlog slash

9:56

podcast known as Greg Way. Of course,

9:58

what you're watching right now is the Kind of Funny. of games

10:00

cast each and every weekday. Four, sometimes

10:03

five, best friends gather on these microphones to

10:05

talk about the hottest topics in video games,

10:07

whether they be reviews, previews, or just cool

10:09

things to talk about in the video game

10:12

world. We do it live on YouTube, we

10:14

do it live on Twitch, we do

10:16

it live on podcast services around

10:18

the globe. If you wanna be part

10:20

of the show as we record it, remember to use

10:22

your YouTube super chats on youtube.com/kindoffunnygames. I'm gonna need you

10:25

to chime in and tell us what

10:27

you think on the kindoffunnyreview scale, a 10 is,

10:30

a nine is, an eight is, and so on.

10:32

We are going through and doing this, we'll talk

10:34

about that when we get to tots. For now,

10:36

I'll remind you of housekeeping. Remember,

10:38

we're an 11 person, small business,

10:40

all about live talk shows. Today

10:42

you've already gotten Lucy James from

10:44

giant bomb slash GameSpot talking about

10:46

George Railroad Martin's Elden Rings adaptation

10:48

on kindoffunnygamesdaily, that's live right now

10:50

on YouTube and podcast services. After

10:52

this episode of the games cast,

10:54

you can catch the live stream

10:56

of Fragpunk. I saw Andy

10:59

and bless on the thumbnail for this one, that's exciting. Mike

11:02

will be there as well. No, that's less

11:04

exciting. He's gotta go train in the

11:06

souls dungeon. He's

11:09

gotta try to beat this boss, yeah. How long into the

11:11

stream do we switch to Valorant? He's

11:13

like, we gotta get our two more to get rings blessed. The

11:18

Valorant streets need us, man. If

11:20

you're a kindoffunny member, of course you'll

11:22

be able to get your Greg Wayne

11:24

momentarily, I'm recording it after this. But

11:26

more importantly, we have revealed the kindoffunny

11:28

premium item for July. Of course, you

11:30

know, we do a physical item each

11:32

and every month on patreon.com/kindoffunny at the

11:34

above and beyond level of premium tier.

11:37

And you can see it is in

11:39

fact a magnet designed by the one,

11:41

the only Josh Strickland. It looks like

11:43

a friendship necklace, where you split it

11:45

in half, one side Snowbike Mike, one

11:47

side Zandy Cortez. If that wasn't enough,

11:49

Joey Noelle has gone through and made

11:51

a bunch of kindoffunny friendship bracelets. You

11:54

will get both of those as your premium

11:56

collector item this month. Very

11:58

exciting. Mike, how- How does it feel to

12:00

see your best friend and

12:03

you immortalized as a magnet?

12:05

Yeah, I truly love it. I want everyone

12:07

to know if you get a hold of

12:09

this, it is really, really awesome. I will

12:11

say though, on a personal note, we are

12:14

two separated halves right now because Andy betrayed

12:16

me. So until we beat this, I'm not

12:18

gonna push the magnets again. Wow, wow, Andy.

12:20

But on my fridge right now, those two

12:22

pieces of the heart separated. Not even on

12:25

my fridge. Yeah,

12:27

but it's on your computer so you know you got love

12:29

for me. It's gonna hurt the hard drive, be

12:31

careful. Thanks for making our

12:33

dreams realities, Patreon producers, Carl Jacobs and Delaney

12:35

Twining. Today we're brought to you by Nvidia

12:37

GeForce and better help. We'll tell you about

12:39

that later for now. Let's start with topic

12:42

of the show. Tots, tots, tots, tots, tots,

12:44

tots, tots, tots, tots, tots, tots, tots, tots,

12:46

tots, Ladies and gentlemen, I'm sure you remember

12:48

when we moved kinda

12:51

funny games cast to a daily format.

12:53

We went and redid the review scale to try

12:56

to be more modern representative of how we talk

12:58

about video games on kinda funny, how we talk

13:00

about everything on kinda funny, and so on and

13:02

so forth. In that episode where we settled on

13:05

a one through ten 20 point scale, so you

13:07

can use point fives. We

13:09

said, you know what would be cool is to do an

13:11

episode of the games cast where we went through one through

13:13

ten and we each gave examples of what we think a

13:15

ten is, what we think a nine is, etc, etc, etc.

13:18

And we all like that, that's a great idea. We'll

13:20

pencil that in the next opening we had. And the next

13:22

opening was now, which is like three months later because

13:24

we had SGF. We had a

13:26

million reviews, we had previews, we've had avowed devs in

13:29

to talk to us, and we've been killing it with

13:31

a daily games cast. So here we are in what

13:33

I like to call the open discussion format. All right,

13:36

Mike's fired up as you've seen. He's

13:38

restarted the show a couple times. He's

13:40

angry, but it's also, he's one of

13:42

those sweaty players now. He's a souls

13:44

player, that's what it is. He is the souls player,

13:46

I should say, actually. We're

13:48

gonna go through and do this. We thought we

13:51

would start with the good stuff first. So

13:53

start with what we think a ten is and go down

13:56

and go through that. So again, if you've never heard the

13:58

kind of funny review, scale it goes like this. 10

14:01

is a masterpiece, nine is amazing, eight

14:03

is great, seven is good, six is

14:05

okay, five is mediocre, four is meh,

14:08

three is bad, two is awful, and

14:10

one is Gollum. Mike,

14:15

since this is your show, you're coming

14:17

off this big win with Sekiro, you know what I mean?

14:20

You're doing the thing that I love

14:22

kind of funny doing and

14:24

that's championing games that have

14:26

been overlooked, that aren't loved enough, that people don't

14:28

know about. You're bringing out these indie kind of

14:30

things, right? For you, why don't

14:32

you kick this off? Tell me what a 10

14:34

is. What is a masterpiece to

14:36

the master of souls, Snowbike Mike? You

14:39

know, I wrote two games down

14:41

that I thought were, you know, 10

14:43

out of 10s, a masterpiece. And I'm

14:45

actually gonna put in the third and I'm gonna champ that

14:48

one. You know what it is, Greg? Sekiro,

14:50

Shadows Die Twice, okay? Because

14:52

to me, that is a masterpiece.

14:55

That is a game that will stick with

14:57

me. And when I think about 10 out

14:59

of 10s, I think about games that will

15:01

change the way I look at video games,

15:03

change that moment inside me going, wow, this

15:05

is going to be something that I will

15:07

always remember. I'll always look back on and

15:09

go, man, that was a special time that

15:11

I enjoyed. And so Sekiro, Shadows Die Twice

15:13

is a 10 out of 10 video game

15:15

for me because what it is is a

15:18

change up of the format. It changed up

15:20

what I thought was a Soulsborne game and

15:22

it put me in something new, something indifferent,

15:24

an awesome, incredible setting in feudal Japan. Of

15:27

course, with the wolf and some family members.

15:29

I don't wanna spoil things, but man, I

15:31

wish I could tell you the whole story

15:33

of that because Greg, Andy, bless, I know,

15:36

you know, Barry, you don't know yet, but you'll learn, okay? I'm

15:38

just thinking about that. See, Greg got me- I don't know

15:40

if you could tell me the full story. I'll

15:42

tell you the whole story about how incredible what's

15:45

going on with that one. But truly, honestly, the-

15:47

The child, is the child, mate, the child. Is

15:49

the child? It had, Andy,

15:52

don't start, okay? We

15:55

have to go west, okay? Just know that that's

15:57

your only- We have to go west, everybody. And

15:59

so it's- the deflection system into

16:01

the parries into how souls born

16:03

bosses in my mind, from

16:06

Dark Souls one through three, blood born and onward.

16:08

When we look at these games now that I've

16:10

recently played it has changed up that format, right?

16:12

And the idea of having that second

16:15

death that a chance to come back and do

16:18

it all over again and to replay the moments

16:20

was really something awesome and special and I loved

16:22

every moment of secular. I thought that was a

16:24

masterpiece in the souls born genre that I got

16:27

to play and experience it. So it's still on

16:29

my mind. It's fresh. I loved everything

16:31

about it and that would be my 10 out of 10 to

16:33

start us off. The one question

16:35

slash comment I have is that obviously we put

16:37

out these adjectives. We do this whole thing. We

16:40

agreed as a team. One of the

16:42

things we said that I wouldn't hold anybody to, but I

16:44

think we've made it clear of like a 10 out

16:46

of 10 deaths isn't perfect. No games perfect. There's

16:49

all this stuff. Do you think Sekiro shadows

16:51

die twice gets close to being perfect? I'm

16:54

not sure. I think it's a great idea. It's

16:57

a great idea. I think it's a great idea.

16:59

I think it's a great idea. Movement is stellar.

17:04

Combat is phenomenal. The idea of second phases is

17:06

cool. I

17:08

liked the map layout and the

17:10

level design. I loved the locations.

17:13

It took me. I really enjoyed the idea that I

17:15

could come back to life. And

17:18

have a second chance. I loved when the bosses

17:20

had second phases. I loved that. I loved that.

17:22

It was just a perfect pair of them. And

17:25

I'm like, oh, you know, perfect pairing them into killing them.

17:28

And getting that fatal blow and then earning back. The

17:30

chance to resurrect myself again for a possible

17:32

third. Try is pretty awesome. Yeah,

17:37

I mean, this is as close to perfect of a video game for

17:39

me. As I

17:41

would like, right? I think there's a couple others that I have

17:43

on my list, but sure to me. Yeah, this is a 10

17:45

out of 10 masterpiece. Perfection is right. The combat, the movement. The

17:51

The mechanics. The mechanics. The

17:53

mechanics. The mechanics. Getting beat down. Bang in

17:55

your head against the wall. Cause you can't

17:57

get it done. Into overcoming that obstacle and

17:59

challenge. with

22:00

all of his choices and inside

22:03

is one that I kind of always go back

22:05

to and think in top 10 or

22:07

you know an absolute 10 out of 10.

22:10

My selection is one that

22:12

whenever it pops up on the Spotify soundtrack

22:14

I just go god damn that's a 10

22:16

out of 10 and that is Celeste. I

22:19

don't think a game hits

22:22

on more

22:24

of the like all

22:27

of the aspects of what make it a video game. I

22:29

don't know if there's anything in Celeste

22:31

that falls short of

22:33

what they were going for. I

22:36

think the message behind it beautiful

22:39

awesome storytelling you

22:41

know I love its pixel 8-bit

22:43

art style movement

22:45

platforming it's just like

22:48

what they went for was

22:50

a 10 out of 10 thing and they

22:52

like they achieved it. That's just one of the one

22:55

of the best experiences you could have especially

22:58

with their like accessibility settings as well in

23:01

case people aren't super good at difficult

23:03

games. I think Celeste is just

23:05

one that I always go back to and

23:08

go god what a masterpiece Celeste is. Yeah

23:11

100% I think what's you know there's many

23:13

reasons to adore Celeste and you've

23:15

listed them all. The one that I would always

23:17

call out for me that I thought was so

23:19

impressive was the accessibility stuff where this was a

23:21

game that was dropping when difficulty was such a

23:24

conversation you know piggybacking off the souls games and

23:26

not being able to really change the difficulty of

23:28

those games and to see them do this one

23:30

where it's like hey we think you should play

23:32

it this way but if you want to enjoy

23:35

it and can't do that if that was going

23:37

to be something that would put you off go

23:39

do it this way and even for me as

23:41

somebody who's not the platforming guy I loved Celeste

23:43

so much because of the way they broke down

23:45

the challenges where it really was like you were

23:48

on this screen can you get

23:50

past this screen and that

23:52

was like that bite size of a challenge of getting to the next

23:54

one felt like okay I can put it down I can stop by

23:56

or if I was getting close I knew it was I wasn't gonna

23:58

get five and saying die and have

24:00

to come back and redo the whole thing, right? Like they

24:02

broke up the challenge in a way I thought anybody could

24:05

really appreciate it and play, especially for

24:07

a story that was so important. Beautiful

24:09

story, yeah. Like you got me

24:11

crying at these blocky figures that you

24:13

can't even see like what the hell they're,

24:16

where their anatomy is, you know? It's just,

24:18

it's incredible. It's so good. Yeah, for me

24:20

as a 2D platformer guy, or even just

24:22

as a platformer person, right? Like there's nothing

24:24

else like Celeste. When you

24:26

talk about one, how good and how precise and

24:28

tight the platforming is, Greg you mentioned the one

24:31

screen at a time and like each screen is

24:33

its own puzzle and being able to kind of

24:36

restart on a dime if you fall or die

24:38

or whatever, immediate respawn. And it keeps you engaged

24:40

in that way. Layer it on top with just

24:42

an amazing story that dives into mental health, dives

24:44

into depression, anxiety and all that stuff and does

24:47

it in such an incredible way

24:49

that like, I think feeds

24:51

into the gameplay well, right? Like it is

24:53

such a good marriage of story concept and

24:57

how that feeds into, you are climbing a mountain

24:59

as Madeline, right? You're getting over this thing. Like

25:01

it is a powerful game in design, but then

25:03

yeah, when you want to talk about even just

25:05

the art of the visuals of it and how

25:08

good the pixel art design is and then the

25:10

music of it and how like, you know, I

25:12

rep Celeste to this day by like listening to

25:14

it on, I listen to the songs on Spotify.

25:16

Like Celeste, for me, it's almost like when I

25:18

talk about Sonic the Hedgehog and how I'm like,

25:20

yo, Sonic is not even just about the video

25:23

games. It's about like, it's about the lifestyle. That's

25:25

what Sonic the Hedgehog is. That's like Celeste almost

25:27

feels like a similar thing where I'm like, I'll

25:29

listen to the soundtrack whenever and I'll get put

25:31

in that same emotional place that I was when

25:33

playing the game. Like it is transcended beyond just

25:35

the gameplay experience. Yeah, Lena, Lena Raine

25:38

and that soundtrack is just absolutely insane. And

25:40

to piggyback off of Mike's answer for

25:42

Sekiro, the way I think that

25:45

Sekiro kind of mastered what

25:48

deflection sword fighting can feel like in

25:50

the video game and everybody's been chasing

25:52

that high since, I

25:54

think Celeste mastered platforming.

25:58

Great answer, Andy. number

28:00

one, right, with the Legacy Collection. I booted it

28:02

up and put like four or five hours into

28:04

it, enjoyed it, but like at some point put

28:06

it down and never thought about going back to

28:09

it. Peace Walker is that thing of when Blessing

28:11

came on and was doing PS I Love You

28:13

with me, and we went and replayed Peace Walker,

28:15

like I rolled credits without even trying.

28:17

And it was that idea of like, am I gonna

28:19

commit right now to Platinum-ing it? And it was like

28:21

still, it's clunky using the PlayStation 3. I hope it's

28:24

in Legacy Volume 2, yet it, but whenever I get

28:26

another shot at Peace Walker, I do expect to go

28:28

through and probably not Platinum-ing because we've seen Metal Gear

28:30

games kill me on that before. But go through and

28:32

beat it again. Like I just love that game. And

28:35

especially for, I mean, you're talking about a PSP game,

28:37

right? So it's hard to pull it over

28:39

here and talk about it against like a

28:41

God of War 2018 or whatever, but it was so

28:44

ingenious for the system. It was such a

28:46

full fledged video game at a time where,

28:48

oh, it's pretty good for a PSP game.

28:50

It's pretty good for a handheld game. Like

28:52

it really was Kojima saying, what

28:54

does a Metal Gear handheld look like in

28:56

2010? What are we doing with that? Playing

28:59

with the comic book cut scenes, having them

29:01

be so beautiful, but you can go in

29:03

and out of them. The bite-sized mission structure,

29:06

pinging wifi to recruit soldiers to put in

29:08

the mother base. I mean, if you've

29:10

never played Peace Walker, but you've played Metal Gear Solid 5, you've

29:12

played Peace Walker. Cause it is that idea

29:15

of recruiting, building out your teams, the research

29:17

projects, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. I

29:19

had so much fun with that game on my

29:21

PSP, whether it was playing on the couch, playing

29:24

at the review event, playing on a Muni or

29:26

whatever, like the train. Like I love Peace Walker

29:28

and I really do regret that I didn't give it a 10. So

29:31

I'm happy to rectify that today. Doesn't

29:35

have dope, like scary enemies

29:37

on the opposite side. Who's some bad villains? Give me

29:39

the rundown. Well, you're doing with the Chrysalis and the

29:41

Pupa and all that jazz. You're fighting big robots. You're

29:43

fighting Metal Gear, but then you're building your own core

29:45

and you can have your own Metal Gear that you

29:47

send out and stuff, but you got Dr. Strangelove in

29:50

there. There's stuff going on,

29:52

Mike. Is there anything more than you do

29:54

for like, when I think about how Nintendo

29:57

didn't speak right a fucking course, basically up a

29:59

vertical wall. All right, I saw. I

30:01

love Link's Awakening remake. Can you like, what

30:03

would you do for a Peace Walker sort

30:06

of, hey, here it is, brand new console, brand new

30:08

look, new engine. Oh, I mean, put it in the

30:10

middle of your solid five engine. Right? Like

30:13

I feel like you have all that stuff already and you have

30:15

the setup too, and it would just be that again. But even

30:17

then, I think now it would be quaint,

30:19

right? Where it would be like, oh, okay. Like even

30:21

when they did, when they start,

30:23

when they, Peace Walker was finally able to be

30:25

played on a TV, right? Through the other legacy

30:27

collection. That's not the actual legacy collection. It was

30:29

like, oh wow, these environments look pretty empty. Right?

30:32

Cause it was a PSP game. It was a handheld game. Like

30:34

if you could go through and give it the Delta treatment or

30:36

put it, make it look like middle of your solid five and

30:38

give it those mechanics, like you'd be off to the races again.

30:41

But again, I think one of the reasons it works so well

30:43

is because it was meant to

30:45

be a portable game. You know what I mean? Like

30:47

I just reviewed Luigi's Mansion 2, right? On games cast

30:49

last week. And my criticism of it,

30:52

right? Is like how the levels are bite size and meant to

30:54

be replayed. So it kind of feels not jarring, but you're like,

30:56

oh, this is a product of a time gone by. Whereas

30:59

middle gear solid five missions when you went out of

31:02

them could be really big. They could be short obviously,

31:04

but they could be really, you know, grandiose as well.

31:06

Whereas I don't think peace Walker really was that. What

31:09

would you give the special edition PSP

31:11

out of 10? Do you

31:14

mean the big boss one? The

31:16

metal gear solid peace Walker PSP. It

31:18

has its own special edition. Do you have it? What

31:21

would I give? Marine? It's nasty. Is that what you're

31:23

saying? What would I give the big boss pack right

31:25

there? It's right there.

31:27

Camo green. Oh, he's got it.

31:29

You kidding me right there. Yeah.

31:32

What would I give this guy? That's a 10 out of 10 collection. You kidding

31:35

me? You got the thing in there. You got all set to go

31:37

fucking peace Walker man. See you out at ladies and

31:39

gentlemen. I'll tell you what Ben's gonna go off

31:42

and go to college off of that when I sell it on eBay.

31:46

I asked you of course to super

31:49

chat throughout the show on youtube.com/ kind

31:52

of funny games for the super chats. Phil

31:54

shoe writes in and says my own personal 10 out

31:56

of 10 and my favorite game of all time would

31:58

have to be Kingdom hearts too. Can't

32:00

wait for you to get to it, Mike. Can't

32:02

wait. Dorg86

32:06

says Ninja Gaiden for the

32:08

OG Xbox, pure perfection. Mike,

32:11

you ever play that one as an Xbox? No, no,

32:13

never. I remember that being so hard at the office.

32:15

You won't talk about like Souls games now, but I

32:17

remember when I think it was Eric Brudvig and David

32:19

Clayman would come in and be like, we've

32:22

been on the same boss for four hours last night.

32:24

We can't beat him. And

32:27

then I got two here, sorry. Let'sShadles

32:30

says, my most recent 10 out of 10

32:32

is Lies of P. The big

32:34

scene at the end alone was one of the most hype

32:37

moments I've ever experienced in a game. Andy,

32:39

is that a hype moment? Cool. I

32:42

mean, when that

32:44

kind of went viral and started going around

32:46

the internet with

32:49

people that weren't even aware of what Lies of

32:51

P was, but then they started to kind of

32:53

get a glimpse as to what

32:55

this IP is. So hilarious, it's incredible. It's

32:57

one of those moments that like, if Tim

33:00

was into Souls likes, he would

33:02

not have shut up about that moment

33:04

for months. Yeah, absolutely. I

33:07

was reviewing it and I think I was like the

33:09

first person, at least in like my circle that had

33:11

finished it. And I'll like, I couldn't believe

33:13

my eyes and I was so mad that I couldn't talk

33:15

to anybody about it. Cause I was like, I need to

33:17

break this down. This is fucking insane. And

33:20

then our super chat to end this 10 out

33:22

of 10 section is from Oriel who writes in

33:24

and says, my friend and I, my wife and

33:26

I, she played a platinum untitled goose game in

33:28

one night. She played it as

33:30

seriously as a Metal Gear game because

33:33

it was so intriguing and fun despite

33:35

only having two action buttons, grab slash

33:37

honk. An unforgettable 10 out of 10

33:39

experience. And that's how

33:41

the loose game showing anything can be a 10 out of 10,

33:43

right? Also the dice game of the year that year, stick

33:45

that in your pipe and smoke it, Mike. Sorry,

33:47

it wasn't whatever Souls came out that year, clown.

33:51

Ladies and gentlemen, I digress. Remember, of course we

33:53

couldn't have these discussions without you. Of course the

33:55

super chats are great, but we would

33:58

love it if you went over and picked up a kind of funny member. Of

34:00

course, what it means is that for a month, you support

34:03

us with just $10 and guess what? It's

34:05

34:11

34:18

about Tim's wedding, live as we record them,

34:20

34:22

Greg Way. You could even go over to

34:32

But I digress, you're not using your Kinda Funny

34:34

membership no matter how you get it. So here's

34:37

a word from our sponsor. This

34:40

episode is brought to you by our

34:42

very good friends over at NVIDIA GeForce.

34:44

Kinda Funny and NVIDIA GeForce have been

34:46

working together for almost four years now,

34:49

and they were one of our first

34:51

sponsors at the spare bedroom. So when

34:53

we reached out to them to be

34:55

a part of Getty's live on stage,

34:58

GNI's wedding spectacular, they couldn't say no.

35:01

They've harnessed the immense power of

35:03

AI to make PC

35:05

gaming unlike anything you or

35:07

anyone else has experienced before.

35:09

NVIDIA DLSS 3.5 is

35:11

one of those advanced techs. It

35:14

multiplies game performance and it allows

35:16

you to immerse yourself in the

35:18

most advanced graphics possible, like full

35:20

ray tracing and realistic lighting. New

35:22

features on GeForce RTX's powerful 40

35:24

series cards like AI enabled DLSS

35:26

frame generation and DLSS ray reconstruction

35:28

put you in the game like

35:30

never before. And NVIDIA Reflex reduces

35:32

the latency in your gaming PC

35:34

and gives you a competitive edge

35:36

by reducing the time from click

35:38

to on screen action. The future

35:40

is bright. Take it from all

35:42

of us here at Kinda Funny.

35:44

It's the best time ever to

35:46

game on PC and it's

35:48

only gonna get better from here, especially

35:51

with NVIDIA and the awesome promise of

35:53

GeForce RTX. This episode's brought to you

That's BetterHelp, H-E-L-P,.com/kindoffunny. And

37:02

we're back with our topic of the show.

37:04

Let's jump into number nine. That's a nine

37:06

out of 10. Amazing on the

37:09

kind of funny scale. So let's start with the amazing

37:12

Andy Cortez. I

37:14

got a bunch listed down here. Coward.

37:17

A lot of these have been my favorite games of

37:19

the past five years or so. I'll

37:23

throw out a couple. I'll throw out Hyper Light

37:25

Drifter. Just one of those that I just love

37:27

going back to. I always hop back into it.

37:30

You would think that I had that as like a 10 out of

37:32

10 because I won't shut up about it. But

37:35

I do think that there's

37:37

some aspects of it that I

37:39

don't, that

37:41

pull it from that Masterpiece class. And whenever

37:44

we talk about Masterpiece, it's like pretty

37:47

much all the Souls games that I've played

37:49

so far, I would have as 10 out

37:51

of 10s, even though they have plenty of

37:53

things that I can complain about. And say

37:55

those things aren't perfect, but

37:57

the greater whole. The

38:00

Great Circle and yeah Jones it

38:02

all just like you know exceeds

38:05

it past that 10 out of 10 thing Rating

38:08

for me, but for a

38:10

game like Hyper Light Drifter I would

38:13

also put as a 9 out of

38:15

9 goes to Tsushima control it takes

38:17

two phenomenal video games great experiences but

38:20

the one I want to land on is Death's Door and Death's

38:24

Door was such a Such

38:27

a fun video game for me that hit

38:30

on so many different Like

38:33

mechanics and aspects that make a video game good,

38:36

and I really really enjoyed the

38:38

combat I enjoyed the world. I

38:40

love the story that it was telling and

38:42

the soundtrack is also one of those other similar

38:45

it similar to the reason why I always

38:47

get reminded of Celeste because it always pops

38:50

up on my My

38:52

Spotify playlist like games and chill whenever

38:54

this the Death's Door soundtrack pops up

38:57

I just you know I'm just smiling you

39:00

know it's such a great experience amazing

39:03

story about About

39:06

the man about just sticking it to the man Greg.

39:08

You know yeah, we're all just we're all just kind

39:10

of on this work Grind

39:12

non-stop, and I just

39:14

really enjoyed the message it was telling and

39:17

I love the world. I love the characters I really

39:19

enjoyed the combat and then I got super

39:21

into Wanting to 100% it

39:24

and I think it was like the first game. I've

39:26

ever 100% Because

39:29

like a spider-man 2 was my first PlayStation Platinum

39:31

But Death's Door was the first one that I

39:33

I because we were previewing

39:35

it or we were reviewing it We had

39:38

the codes early finding out those mysteries finding

39:40

out those puzzles postgame after beating the game

39:42

just still wanting to dive into it Death's

39:44

Door to me is a Phenomenal

39:47

experience a 9 out of 10 if you care

39:49

about action

39:51

games top-down isometric action

39:54

games with amazing music and fun

39:56

combat cool enemies worlds

39:58

to explore and seek death's door is

40:00

a must play for me. Well

40:06

said. Great job, Andy. You're amazing.

40:08

Great job, Andy. Yeah,

40:10

for me, my nine out of 10, my amazing

40:13

is Helldivers 2. A game,

40:15

obviously, that I adore and have played so much

40:17

of and love so much. You've seen a stream

40:19

around here and stuff. And obviously such a crazy

40:22

sequel to a game that took nine, from

40:24

nine years before, right? But I loved so

40:26

much. For me with Helldivers 2,

40:29

again, is Andy, yeah, perfect, yeah,

40:31

yeah. What I think's interesting, when I sit here

40:33

and I talk about why I don't think

40:35

Helldivers 2 is a 10 out of 10, right? I

40:37

don't wanna say difficulty, because that's not it. It's some

40:40

of the, I guess, imbalance

40:43

in terms of every game is doing the same

40:45

thing over and over again, right? Like that's a

40:47

gameplay loop. We all know that, we talk about

40:49

it. We know games can only be so much.

40:52

But it's the idea of Helldivers where I

40:55

still have so many levels to get in Helldivers,

40:57

right? Like I'm not even, Gary just hit level

40:59

100 last week when he was on the show. 150

41:02

right now is the level cap. It's

41:04

that idea that I look

41:07

at the 150 level cap and just go, oh,

41:09

I'm never gonna hit that. Like the way experience

41:11

points works, the way that you're working with

41:13

teams works, it's that thing where it's like,

41:15

this is a amazing game.

41:17

It does so much so right. But I look

41:19

at that and I say to me, that would

41:21

be a detriment to it, where there's

41:23

so much to do and rather than be inspired to

41:25

go do it as I am in Peace Walker, where

41:28

I wanted to go S rank, where I wanted to

41:30

go do all these different things. I wanted the, you

41:32

know, ST or teams across the board and I knew

41:34

I could do it. Helldivers is

41:36

one of those things where it's like, man, that's

41:38

awesome, but I don't wanna do that same thing

41:40

that much and have it become a grind that

41:42

way and have it be a job, if that

41:44

makes sense. Like I'm always excited to play more

41:47

Helldivers. I love when we go in there and

41:49

do the hour, you know, five hour long streams

41:51

or whatever for special occasions. We just did one

41:53

in April for my birthday. Like I adore Helldivers,

41:55

but there is something too, not the balancing of

41:57

the gameplay because obviously you have so many difficulties.

42:00

But the balancing of what you're doing in it where

42:02

it's just like, yeah, this isn't gonna be a second

42:04

job for me. So it's an amazing game, but

42:06

I'm stepping away from it in a way. Thank

42:10

you, Andy. Mike,

42:14

what's yours? Yeah, Greg, I got a couple

42:16

of fun ones written down. I also have one I wanna

42:19

shout out that I didn't have written down, which is Cuphead.

42:21

I think Cuphead is an amazing game. I have

42:24

Metal Gear Solid 5. I think that

42:26

is an amazing game. It took me on an

42:28

awesome adventure. I also wanna give shout out and

42:30

some flowers to Hitman 3, because I

42:32

think Hitman and what they created in

42:34

that universe with that game and moving

42:37

forward to kind of a live game

42:39

as a service live game is really

42:42

special. But I wanna shout out a

42:44

game that could easily be attending some

42:46

people's books, but is an amazing experience.

42:49

Forza Horizon 5 and what

42:51

Playground Games has created over there. That

42:53

arcade racer, which has Sim-like elements, but

42:55

is just all around a great time

42:57

ripping through the Baja of Mexico is

42:59

really, really special. I mean, talk about

43:02

a game that gives you the bang

43:04

for your buck in a world where

43:06

we don't really get these like, hey,

43:08

here's a full package of a video

43:10

game, right at launch. That is what

43:13

Forza Horizon 5 is. I

43:15

mean, a giant map within Mexico that has

43:17

different biomes all around that you can go

43:19

explore from a volcano all the way down

43:21

into the coastline. Really, really special over what

43:24

probably 700 to 1,000 cars in the game,

43:29

all different sorts of races from the Goliath

43:31

all the way down to small street races,

43:33

you could drift around turns and get points

43:36

for that. It was just a great time

43:38

and they Forza Horizon, that whole series gets

43:40

a lot of love, but maybe not enough

43:42

love. It's a weird one because it's a

43:45

racing game, but it's also like the racing

43:47

games that like the casual audience can get

43:49

into. And they've had great tie ins from

43:51

Hot Wheels to Lego and beyond, which is

43:53

like, man, this is a really awesome and

43:56

amazing experience. And so I want to make

43:58

sure we give some love. Fort

44:00

Sir, horizon five, and what that game

44:02

created, because it is stellar from the

44:04

animations, from the cars and the decals

44:06

to what you see when you go

44:08

into the library of what Andy created,

44:10

what you created, Greg, and I can

44:12

put it instantly on my car to,

44:15

Hey, we're going to give you that

44:17

super ultra 4k zoom into

44:19

the car and see every detail on

44:21

the paneling and the interior. It's

44:23

just one of those games you go, wow, what

44:25

are we doing here off of a racing game,

44:27

but there was a love for that. And I

44:30

think there's something special to be said. I mean,

44:32

Chuck's, they even put a battle Royale in the

44:34

game for me with the Forza eliminator. So, I

44:36

mean, I couldn't ask for more. I just, I

44:38

guess the only thing I could have asked for

44:40

was a little bit smoother launch of multiplayer at

44:42

the beginning of it all, but that's always tough

44:44

with these games and servers and all that. But

44:46

when you got 12 people in a

44:48

race and you did the coast to coast drive

44:51

on the Goliath all the way across was one

44:53

of the coolest experiences I could ever ask for. So you

44:56

have to love the Fort Sir. That's a great

44:58

thing. We're just playing it today. Me and Ben,

45:00

Ben is obsessed with Forza Horizon and you want

45:02

to hear a cute thing. Listen to a two

45:04

and a half year old say Forza Horizon. Loves

45:07

it. Was very excited for me to reveal the Jurassic

45:09

Park Jeep was in it today for him. You know,

45:12

he's been driving around in my DeLorean, the yellow Jeep.

45:14

Bless you. Did a great job on games cast last

45:16

week of switching cars for him. I appreciate that quite

45:18

a bit. Of course. But yeah, me jumping in there

45:20

and you know, I was a burnout paradise fan. Like

45:22

I liked and I'm not a racing game guy. So

45:25

I kind of missed that Forza Horizon 5 was

45:27

that again. So jumping in there and there being

45:30

how many signs I have destroyed left and all these other things,

45:32

I was like, damn, like this is actually

45:34

a really cool racing game that I kind of slept

45:36

on, but I'm excited to learn more about it as

45:38

Ben gets obsessed. Yeah. If you would have told

45:40

me that I would have been obsessed

45:42

over a racing game in my adult

45:45

lifetime, because as a kid, when I didn't

45:47

have a whole lot of things

45:49

to play, you know, of course I played Madden back

45:51

in the day and I was super into Metal Gear

45:53

Solid. But getting

45:56

really into like Need for Speed Underground when I was in

45:58

like the fast and furious days. It was like I

46:01

was super into those racing games and

46:03

then Completely fell off because it's like

46:05

I found what my tastes are in gaming Yeah

46:08

but when I played forts of

46:10

horizon 4 and Started

46:12

to kind of get into that groove. I was like, oh

46:14

this is what I've I think I've

46:17

been wanting out of a car game You know,

46:19

I would You

46:22

free three guys yeah kind of exist

46:24

in this ecosystem for a while and

46:27

then five really was The

46:29

game that kind of just got me sucked in

46:31

and I was obsessed with five Yeah today we

46:33

ran into your ghost Ben was driving around out

46:35

there on the roads and ran into your ghost

46:37

You were like 96. I was like goddamn. Yeah,

46:39

I played hell out of five Yeah for me

46:41

It was ports or horizon three that like got

46:43

me in and I think when we talk about

46:45

forts or horizon five and where it stands I

46:47

like the number stuff I think that is like

46:49

the easiest argument you can make for a racing

46:51

game being a 10 out of 10 But

46:53

it's almost like the I think because

46:55

we've had quite a few forts or horizons that

46:58

have been that good It almost

47:00

just doesn't feel like it right like it feels like you're getting another

47:02

one But like I think that game really is that special that you

47:04

know, somebody was like this is a 10 out of 10 I'd be

47:06

like dude. I'm for sure I mean I gen gave it their game

47:08

of the year the year that it came out Which I think is

47:10

a testament to how fucking good that game is Amazing

47:15

blessing. What's your pick for a

47:17

9 out of 10 amazing game? Yeah,

47:20

so like again I had a few listed here the

47:22

9 out of 10 I think is an interesting one

47:24

cuz like I'm almost more excited for the 9 conversation

47:26

than the 10 conversation cuz like Usually the

47:28

games that I feel like I can Love on

47:30

unabashedly without even had to worry about like is

47:32

this the greatest thing of all time? Is this

47:34

thing? Perfect? Is this masterpiece? It's like no, but

47:36

I love it with all my heart and like

47:38

the games that I have Written down here are

47:40

Returnal Tekken 8 near

47:43

automata and then Final Fantasy 7 rebirth Which I

47:45

think is the one that I'll stick on for

47:47

this conversation Cuz like I think that game is

47:49

a fucking special video game that does so many

47:51

things correct And this is this is one where

47:53

I think I am also Fixing a

47:55

sin of the past because I believe our

47:57

review I gave it a four

48:00

out of five. And I think that was

48:02

one of those ones where I was like, it's

48:04

not perfect. Like it's not like, you know, it

48:07

is a flawed video game. And so I feel

48:09

like I can't give it a quote

48:11

unquote, like perfect score or a master

48:13

or like the highest score possible. But now that we're

48:15

on the 10 point scale, like this is one of

48:18

the reasons why I'm glad we switched because I think

48:20

this game is a nine out of 10. I think

48:22

this game is as close as you can get to

48:24

like that highest score without actually like getting there because

48:26

of a few key flaws. But for the stuff that

48:28

it does, right, I can't believe how good this cast

48:30

of characters is. One of the best castes is not

48:32

maybe my favorite cast of characters in a video game,

48:35

the like the different locations, the

48:37

different areas, how good the game looks, the fidelity of

48:39

it. The combat still holds up and it's so fun.

48:41

And I love the stuff that they added. The moments

48:44

are so special. And yeah, like, I mean, like

48:46

the only thing only things really here for me

48:48

that would bring it from being a 10 out

48:50

of 10 would be that like, I think the

48:53

open world can feel very bloated at times. And

48:55

then also, I didn't love the last few chapters

48:57

and like, you know, certain characters that character

48:59

things that I think make it suffer as a

49:01

standalone game where I think it was once

49:04

the full trilogy is out, I'm sure a

49:06

lot of my qualms are going to be fixed because like a lot

49:08

of my beef has to do with just cloud as a character and

49:10

shit. But I think that

49:12

does bring it back a bit as a standalone thing.

49:14

But even still, like I think this game is very

49:16

special. And I think it was a prime example of

49:19

like, oh, you are this is as good as it

49:21

can get without being absolutely like goat

49:23

level. Thank

49:28

you. Thank you. Let us move on

49:30

to an eight out of 10 a great game. I'll

49:34

kick you off this time and I'll say Diablo

49:36

four. This is one

49:38

I'm currently re obsessed with this

49:40

season of loot came

49:42

out at a time when I was busy with

49:44

another review and then working on something else and

49:46

then obsessed with fall at 76 for a while

49:49

and some starfield. And so I've gotten back to

49:51

it now and legitimately can't put it down. And

49:54

I would have told you before like Diablo is a

49:56

great game. And I think the season just enhances

49:58

what I loved about it and gives you so much to

50:00

do. But again, why is this an eight

50:02

and not a nine? Why is it not a 10?

50:04

Why is it this the other right? Like, this is

50:07

another one where I love

50:09

playing this game. I love seeing the numbers go up. I

50:11

love getting the better loot. I love trashing it and doing

50:13

all stuff. But again, the gameplay

50:15

loop is the gameplay loop here. I think that

50:18

limits it in a way, right? Like I don't

50:20

have any connection to the story. Even when we were

50:23

playing the actual narrative, Jen and I like, we

50:25

weren't connected to it. I think so much of

50:27

the side missions and stuff is one

50:29

note. You know, the joke that we have in the house

50:31

when we play because we just skip all the dialogue now,

50:33

which you know, Mike, I never do but I do hear

50:35

when I'm picking up side matches or whatever, right? It is

50:37

like, I'm always like, just to make Jen

50:39

laugh, I go, Oh, my beans, the demons

50:42

stole my beans. Because it's always just the

50:44

demons did whatever they ripped out somebody's heart. They're doing

50:46

this, go say it. And I'm just like, Oh, the

50:48

demons took my beans. Because whatever, it's just what it's

50:50

got to be for whatever the reason to go off

50:52

and do it. And that's great. And that's good. But

50:54

it is like, it is that

50:57

smorgasbord of content that I sit there

50:59

and I will be playing it

51:01

and I will have at night those moments by

51:03

myself where I'm like, I'm done. Like

51:06

I've had enough I've eaten enough cake right now where

51:08

it's like, I am just going I'm doing to see

51:10

I'm really into the season pass this time around, which

51:12

is the first time for all these seasons. This is

51:14

season for the first time a season pass has stuff

51:16

I don't remember. I'm like, ah, shit, I really do

51:18

want to get that level 80 armor there. I think

51:20

that would look really good on my Wonder Woman. So

51:22

it's like, I'm getting going

51:24

for it and gearing for it. But then it'll be the you

51:26

know, I go to the checklist of what I need to do

51:29

for this level of the battle pass. And I'm like, All right,

51:31

well, I don't feel like doing any more of that. Or I

51:33

do it for so long that I'm like, I just need to

51:35

stop here. I love it. I think it's beautiful. I think it's

51:37

great. I think Diablo is really fun game. But it is me

51:40

smashing X and doing that thing. And right now

51:42

I'm in this weird thing where on this seasonal

51:44

character, there's world tiers, right? That make it more

51:46

difficult. I'm beating the

51:48

shit out of world tier three. But I'm

51:50

not to the point where I can

51:52

do the capstone dungeon to unlock world tier four. So I can

51:54

have somebody pull me through and do it. But then the world

51:57

might be unbalanced. Like I'm in a little thing like that where

51:59

it's like the seams of the game show.

52:01

And I can have a great time with it and love

52:03

it, but I'm ready to step away.

52:05

It's not like I'm trying to get

52:07

to a completion goal as much as I do want to

52:09

platinum Diablo. And I feel like this is my easiest shot

52:11

at getting a level 100 character and doing stuff like that.

52:15

I'm so happy with how Diablo 4 came

52:17

out and resonated with fans after

52:19

10 years away. It's hard to believe that it

52:21

came on and made such a splash. I mean,

52:23

I knew it would, but yeah, it's special, right?

52:26

Cinematics are unbelievable by Blizzard. We've seen that with

52:28

World of Warcraft and previous Diablos. So it is

52:30

fun to be back in that world and then

52:32

really nail it, Greg. And I'm glad that you

52:34

are so deep in it, because I love that.

52:37

Yeah. Mike, what about you? What's your eight out

52:39

of 10? Yeah, there's some great out of

52:41

10s here. I have Microsoft

52:43

Flight Sim on my list. I have

52:46

Pikmin 4, which stole my heart. I

52:50

have two here and I wanna shine a light

52:52

on one of them. So I'm gonna give some

52:54

love to Halo Infinite. I think Halo Infinite is

52:56

a great game, especially when we talk about launch

52:58

of Halo Infinite. There were some misses

53:00

though with co-op and Forge not being there, but

53:03

that is a great game. But my eight out

53:05

of 10 great game that I wanna highlight is

53:08

a game that will stick with me

53:10

from this year, which is Bellatro. I

53:12

think Bellatro is a great freaking video

53:14

game. And I had so much fun.

53:16

I think we're in the craze of

53:18

these rogue lights, rogue lights, and the

53:20

idea of sitting down and creating a

53:23

table game in the casinos, which

53:25

is just poker,

53:27

but now you're playing it with this weird

53:30

rogue light elements of different modifiers from the

53:32

jokers to the different hands that you could

53:34

have and how that kind of affects your

53:37

chips and your final score really stuck with

53:39

me and made me obsessed, right? I know

53:41

Barrett will pop off on this one because

53:43

he's been really screaming it from the rooftops,

53:46

but this is the game that he put

53:48

on my radar and

53:50

I couldn't get enough of. I think the world

53:52

couldn't get enough of this one. And it was

53:54

so much fun to play Bellatro each and every

53:56

night and try to get a better score, try

53:59

to use different jokers. and decks, which how

54:01

would it would affect my score and what I

54:03

would do and the ways I would think of

54:05

my hands from a flush to a straight to

54:07

sometimes only going two of a kind, maybe going

54:10

three of a kind, maybe going for a full

54:12

house. I think that's really fun and inventive on

54:14

a cool card game to do. So I got

54:16

to give some love to Bellatro. OK,

54:19

so not not a 10 game right there. Oh,

54:21

tripping. That's a not like that. Like that, bro.

54:24

I like to me, that's a nine five. That's

54:26

a nine because it's it's one of those. It's

54:29

like almost the boring argument where I think the

54:31

way it's designed. Hold on. Wrong thing. The

54:33

way it's designed feels almost

54:35

like so tuned and perfect. It reminds me

54:37

of like games that have been around for

54:39

generations and lifetimes that you're just like, oh,

54:42

yeah, this is how this game works. Right.

54:44

Yeah. A lot are so fucking good. I

54:46

for me, it is. And it's it's it's

54:48

such like a hyperbolic statement. But I like

54:50

it's kind of similar to the Barrett thing where

54:52

I'm like, I put this in the vein of

54:54

like a solitaire of this is what cards are

54:56

meant to do. Like whoever invented the 52 deck

54:59

of cards, like this feels like the ultimate use

55:01

of that. They're on something here. Yeah, like I

55:03

can't believe that, like, we got this far as

55:05

far as we can do with the 52 deck.

55:08

And like I this game should

55:10

be should come installed in every

55:12

computer. This game should be like

55:14

this game is the Tetris effect

55:16

to poker. You

55:18

know, yeah. Special.

55:20

OK. Blessing, you're

55:22

stepping up for to defend Bellocher. What's your

55:25

eight out of 10? So

55:27

the few I have written here are Tinykin, Cana, Bridge

55:29

of Spirits, but the one that I'll stick on is

55:32

Spider-Man 2. Spider-Man

55:34

2 is like, I think the prototypical

55:37

like this is a great video

55:39

game. Right. Like the combat's fun.

55:41

The story is fun. The world

55:43

looks good. It is brief

55:46

is not the right word, but I guess like I guess paste

55:48

well. Right. Where you finish it. And it is the kind of

55:50

game that you can finish over the course of four

55:52

days. And for me, I am like

55:54

a beat that game. Done with it.

55:56

I don't see myself going back and playing much more

55:59

Spider-Man 2. that I finished it, right? I

56:01

had a great time, but it's not something that I'll

56:03

hold on to pedestals. It's not something that I'm trying

56:05

to preach to the choir. If you're a Spider-Man fan,

56:07

oh, you gotta fucking play this game, right? And I

56:10

would say that for pretty much any eight out of

56:12

10 game that is franchise. Hey, if you're a fan

56:14

of the genre, or if you're a fan of this

56:16

character or whatever, you gotta go check this thing out.

56:18

But for me, Spider-Man 2 is also a, oh,

56:20

I've played so many better action games. I've

56:22

experienced a lot of better narratives. I've experienced

56:24

a lot of better open worlds. It

56:27

is not, I guess it's

56:29

just that it's part from like the perfect thing, but it

56:31

is still great in what it is. Fair

56:35

enough, yeah, that would be a nine for me. But again, I

56:37

think we're talking about what we

56:39

personally rank things, right? For me, I would describe

56:41

it as an amazing game, even though Spider-Man and

56:43

Miles Morales had come before it, right, and showing

56:45

you what it was. It is the

56:48

gliding and the wingsuit and the switching between characters and the

56:50

way they do things. And I really liked the story, even

56:52

though I know it gets maybe rushed toward

56:54

the end for a lot of different people and things. I

56:56

respect you, bless you. I love that. I

56:59

would probably agree with that as well, except

57:02

I don't know if there's a game that

57:04

I agree is a more eight out

57:06

of 10 with some of the most

57:09

God-like moment and experiences. This

57:13

game has about a handful of them, and

57:16

they make you feel every spectrum

57:18

of feelings. And surrounding

57:21

it is a lot of really good stuff. It's

57:24

like if you're ranking eight out of 10s, I

57:26

feel like it would be on the very high end of eight. Blessing,

57:29

where are you putting your eight pick? Me

57:32

or, I just went. Oh, sorry, Andy. I'm

57:34

looking at Andy and saying blessing. Oh, sorry. For

57:37

my eight, I have a couple listed

57:39

here. I've always

57:42

mentioned how Jedi Fallen Order is

57:44

a very great video

57:46

game, even though it misses

57:48

quite a bit in level

57:50

design and progression and pacing,

57:52

I would say. I

57:55

had a great time with Remnant from the

57:57

Ashes last year when I played through Remnant.

57:59

from the Ashes for the first time, which

58:01

is a third-person shooter, Souls-like, kind of like

58:04

the first game. It feels like the

58:06

first game to be like, hey, we're trying to

58:08

do what Souls does, but for third-person shooters. But

58:10

I'm gonna land on a game that I adored

58:13

called Metal Hellsinger. Metal

58:15

Hellsinger is a first-person... Well,

58:19

it started off as a metal,

58:21

rhythm, first-person shooter game. And

58:24

since then, they've released a bunch of DLC where you

58:26

could play a bunch of different songs and a bunch

58:29

of different genres. But it

58:31

very much looks like Doom. If you're just

58:33

kind of like... if you took a screenshot

58:35

it, it'd be like, oh, that's one of

58:37

the newer Doom video games. It's

58:39

fantastic visuals, cool guns, everything... you're

58:41

in hell. Troy Baker's

58:43

the voice of the little skull that you got. And

58:47

it's very devilish and very evil-looking,

58:49

awesome monsters, but... That

58:52

game was just like so addictive.

58:55

Hopping back in to try to hit those

58:57

leaderboards. And the moments where

59:00

a game can make

59:02

you feel cool. This game

59:04

makes you feel cool all of the

59:06

time. When you have the shotgun and

59:08

you're trying to shoot enemies on the

59:10

beat and where the

59:12

breakdown's about to hit. And then

59:15

boom, you hit that shotgun shot

59:17

and it's just like a massive

59:19

metal breakdown. It's

59:21

awesome as hell. It's a game that I recommend for

59:23

anybody who loves first-person shooter games,

59:26

especially when you're playing through Doom 2016

59:28

or Eternal. And

59:31

you're just kind of like vibing out

59:33

to that metal music. And I think

59:35

Metal Hellsinger does a great job of

59:38

translating that into a rhythm game. Super,

59:40

super fun time. Great progression, cool weapons,

59:43

an absolute blast. I

59:45

love that you were on that one in

59:47

a way most people weren't. That was one I

59:49

know you champion... why can't I say champion? I'm

59:53

a champion for a long time. Remember

59:55

your protesting. Yeah, exactly. Great

59:57

point, great point. Work from home clear, that's the problem. But

1:00:00

I remember even, I think at SGF, right, you

1:00:02

made a point to see it. And I remember

1:00:04

them remembering that and wanting to talk to you

1:00:06

about that. Yeah, I mean, the demo

1:00:08

had come out and I had a great

1:00:10

freaking time with it. And it's

1:00:14

still one of those that I look back on with, it's

1:00:17

such a great time to experience. Visually it's fun

1:00:20

as hell. The skill gap that there is, if

1:00:22

you just wanna play through and have

1:00:24

a great time, you can do

1:00:26

that. But I think like when a game can

1:00:28

also, where

1:00:31

you could find the fun in trying to challenge yourself

1:00:33

and trying to beat those times and trying to go

1:00:36

for the no hit run with the score

1:00:38

multipliers and all that stuff, it's just a

1:00:40

really, really damn good time. As

1:00:43

we move on to

1:00:46

number seven, a seven out of 10, what's

1:00:48

a good game? I'll jump in and be

1:00:50

fast about it. I put Fallout 76 here, right? For

1:00:53

most of the ones I did here, I wanted to

1:00:55

do something that isn't something I've

1:00:57

just reviewed or whatever, but I still think 76 for me

1:00:59

is such a great example of a good game, right? Because

1:01:01

what I said at the time, right? Fallout 76 is often

1:01:03

a great time, but I don't think it's ever a great

1:01:06

game. Fallout 76 is another game I've sunk

1:01:08

so many hours into this year. I think my

1:01:10

game clock's now over 90 in

1:01:12

what that'd be 80 some plus hours in

1:01:14

2024. I

1:01:16

truly enjoy that game and really like my

1:01:18

time with it and do everything else. But

1:01:20

again, all the seams of Fallout

1:01:22

76 are still there. And it is very much

1:01:24

like, it's good, but

1:01:27

it's not great. This is a fun quest line,

1:01:29

but it doesn't feel like a single player Fallout

1:01:31

quest line. I'm just shooting the shit

1:01:33

out of everything, which is fun, but there's better shooters

1:01:35

out there. Everything it does, you can look and find

1:01:37

a better version of. It just does so much together

1:01:40

that there's a lot of fun to be had there.

1:01:42

But for me, that's what makes it a good game.

1:01:44

A game I would say, oh yeah, it's good, but

1:01:46

not like you have to be playing this. Mike,

1:01:49

you played a lot with me. What would be your seven out

1:01:51

of 10 good game? Yeah, seven out of 10,

1:01:53

it's fun because that's where you get a lot of

1:01:55

people that love these kinds of games or like hold

1:01:57

them near and dear to their hearts and they're just

1:01:59

good. I want to give some

1:02:01

love to Far Cry 6, which I think

1:02:04

Far Cry for me since three and onward

1:02:06

have been something special, but I think they've

1:02:08

gotten off the path a couple of times

1:02:10

and really had to rewrite it. And

1:02:12

Far Cry 6 was them getting back on. But

1:02:14

what I want to pick is Marvel's Guardians of

1:02:17

the Galaxy. I think Marvel's of the Guardians of

1:02:19

the Galaxy is a perfect seven out

1:02:21

of ten good game to me. That was

1:02:23

one where I think they really nailed

1:02:26

it with the story, the animations and

1:02:28

the character designs all

1:02:30

looked great from the characters that we knew from

1:02:32

the movies. I enjoyed playing as Star-Lord. I know

1:02:34

a lot of us wanted to play all of

1:02:37

the characters, but when you get down to it,

1:02:39

I look back on it. It's like that was

1:02:41

a good time. That was a good game. That's

1:02:44

a good one to put there too. Yeah, I remember

1:02:47

for overall Guardians of the Galaxy being a letdown for

1:02:49

me because I wanted it to be better, but I

1:02:51

didn't hate playing it. The story was so good. The

1:02:53

performances were so good. I just thought the gameplay was

1:02:55

kind of like that's one where the

1:02:57

story definitely outshines

1:02:59

the gameplay and it outshines it enough to where

1:03:01

I'd give it like a higher score because

1:03:04

even though I didn't think the

1:03:06

gameplay was the bee's knees and everybody, you

1:03:09

got to play this video game. It's like

1:03:11

the story for me was and those character

1:03:13

arcs and those character moments were so rewarding.

1:03:15

I thought just one of those like this is

1:03:18

some of the best writing and gaming that I've experienced. Yeah,

1:03:20

I went the opposite way with it where that one is under one

1:03:22

of my sixes where it's kind

1:03:24

of the flip of what Andy just mentioned where I found

1:03:27

the gameplay so dull that I didn't even care

1:03:29

to like get through and finish the story. Like

1:03:31

I probably got through like I was in the

1:03:33

final chapters of the game. I was probably like

1:03:35

eight tenths or four fifths, I guess four fifths

1:03:38

of the way through through it and like got

1:03:40

to a really cool like, you

1:03:42

know, emotional moment with like Gamora and I was like,

1:03:44

all right. Yeah, this is cool. And I played a

1:03:46

bit more and I was like, you know what, man?

1:03:48

No, I'm good. I don't need to play anymore. I

1:03:50

do not enjoy the shooting. I do not enjoy any

1:03:52

of like I think it's inspired like I like I

1:03:55

like that. You got creative with some of those gameplay elements in

1:03:57

terms of like factoring your team into the equation and all that.

1:03:59

but I was just like, man, this is not

1:04:02

hitting for me whatsoever. What

1:04:05

was your seven out of 10 then, Bliss? My

1:04:08

seven out of

1:04:10

10, somebody in chat mentioned like, if Spider-Man 2

1:04:12

is my A, where would I put Miles Morales?

1:04:14

I got Miles Morales written down here as a

1:04:17

seven for me. And alongside it, I also have

1:04:19

Stray, I got Sonic Frontiers, and I also got

1:04:21

Dying Light 2. And I think Dying Light 2

1:04:23

would be my quintessential example, where like, that is

1:04:25

a good video game. Like that's a video game

1:04:28

that I was surprised by, honestly. I

1:04:30

guess I don't know what I was expecting if

1:04:32

I am like, this game surprised me and it's

1:04:34

a seven, but I just wasn't expecting to get

1:04:36

sucked into it in the way that I did.

1:04:38

But it's also one that I'm like, it's not

1:04:40

one of the, it's far from the best open-world

1:04:42

game I played, it's far from the best action

1:04:44

game I played. I think it just does a

1:04:46

handful of things right enough to where I'm like,

1:04:48

no, this is a good time, I would recommend

1:04:50

this. And it has bad things about it, but

1:04:52

it's enjoyable. That final boss fight, right?

1:04:54

That final boss fight sucks. I think for me, what's

1:04:57

interesting, this is interesting, you put this here too, right?

1:04:59

Because what I think I would do is for a

1:05:01

seven out of 10 good, I would put Dead Island

1:05:03

2, and for a six out of 10, okay, I

1:05:05

would put Dying Light 2. But you like

1:05:08

Dying Light 2 less than Dead Island 2? Yeah,

1:05:10

Dying Light 2, I was never

1:05:12

compelled to come back to. Again, it's whatever.

1:05:15

Michael with you. Whatever,

1:05:17

man, you're the Brody Michael. I

1:05:20

like this setting better, I don't know, you know what I mean? Like

1:05:22

again, Dying Light 2, like I think the parkour was so much fun,

1:05:24

right? But it was the idea that like, your

1:05:27

choices, I didn't feel like we're making that big of a difference,

1:05:29

I hate the ending boss. General, the narrative

1:05:31

was whatever. Like Dead Island 2's narrative sucks

1:05:33

too, but it's more like, it also is.

1:05:36

Hey, go fuck people up with electrified things and

1:05:38

this, that, the other. Like, you know, I was

1:05:40

like, okay, cool, I'd rather go do that then.

1:05:42

I've never thought about coming back to

1:05:44

Dying Light 2 after we beat it, and Dead Island

1:05:46

2, I have actively come back to. No,

1:05:48

they got a dope DLC, Greg, we should return to

1:05:50

it though, because they got a cool looking DLC out

1:05:52

right now that we should check out. They're fire festival,

1:05:54

right? Yeah. Yes.

1:05:57

I forgot what they actually called the festival or something like that, yeah.

1:06:01

Uh, Andy, what's your seven out of 10? Outriders

1:06:04

baby. This

1:06:07

game rule, man. Seven out of

1:06:09

10 is right. The ultimate quintessential

1:06:11

seven out of 10. A game

1:06:14

that I had a lot of fun with,

1:06:16

uh, despite, you know,

1:06:18

some of the systems maybe

1:06:20

feeling half baked despite a

1:06:22

lot of the narrative and

1:06:24

character moments, not really feeling

1:06:26

fulfilling. Uh, but

1:06:28

man, it's a, it's a fun third

1:06:30

person shooter that I would

1:06:32

say if you have any interest in

1:06:34

just challenging yourself and playing a cool

1:06:37

third person shooter with really fun mechanics,

1:06:39

definitely play Outriders. Okay.

1:06:42

Uh, that brings us to what will be

1:06:44

our final one today. We'll do

1:06:47

our six today. So we've

1:06:49

just gone and had such great conversations and it's a, I

1:06:51

don't want to rush through the other ones. And especially with

1:06:53

Tim not being here, I think we can have Tim come

1:06:55

in and talk about his and then we can also pair

1:06:57

it with a bunch of other stuff. I

1:07:00

also saw real quick in the, in the chat

1:07:02

zone said, damn, no love for Cyberpunk. That'd be

1:07:04

a nine out of 10 for me. Wow. Yeah.

1:07:06

So I put that at nine too, but we

1:07:08

were just picking, yeah, I was just trying to

1:07:10

pick random games and it's, it's, there's plenty that

1:07:13

we didn't list obviously. Uh, so

1:07:15

then six out of 10. Okay.

1:07:18

Andy, keep the floor. What would you put as an okay?

1:07:21

An okay is a game that

1:07:23

I, I

1:07:25

have a whole lot of love in

1:07:27

my heart for despite the

1:07:30

wackiness, despite the bad moments, despite

1:07:32

all of the situations

1:07:34

where you're asking yourself, like, were they

1:07:36

purposely trying to make it this way

1:07:39

or were they really trying to

1:07:41

make it amazing? And that

1:07:43

would be Final Fantasy, Stranger of

1:07:45

Paradise, Final Fantasy Origins, Stranger of

1:07:47

Paradise. Um, a

1:07:50

game with some combat

1:07:52

that could be a bit frustrating in

1:07:54

moments. And you see the glimpses

1:07:58

of goodness in what and

1:14:00

go get a lot of good karma for

1:14:02

10 bucks. Get all of our shows ad

1:14:08

1:14:11

Kinda Funny podcast recapping Tim's wedding straight from

1:14:13

the horse's mouth. And of course you get

1:14:15

your daily dose of me, Greg in Greg

1:14:17

1:14:24

missed it, YouTube of course and podcast services around

1:14:26

the globe. But right now we're

1:14:28

gonna switch over and do a little bit

1:14:30

of streaming. Isn't that right, Mike? That is

1:14:32

correct. We're gonna go check out the newest

1:14:35

lace and greatest shooter frag punks.

1:14:37

We'll see if it's hot or not

1:14:39

on today's afternoon stream with bless and Andy

1:14:41

and I. And then

1:14:43

bless is gonna push the entire time to play

1:14:45

Valorant cause he's obsessed. I'm obsessed. Put two games

1:14:47

away Greg. It might be a good

1:14:50

call. It might be a good call. I'm not sure.

1:14:52

We've won one out of three of those games. Let's

1:14:54

see what happens ladies and gentlemen next on the stream.

1:14:56

But until next time. It's been our pleasure to serve

1:14:58

you.
