The Fundamentals  of Meditation

With Andrew Radja

image

Today we are diving head first into meditation. Up until about a year ago I was one of those people who thought meditation wasn't for me and that my brain just doesn’t function that way. Luckily, I’ve kept at it and I am seeing real benefits. So far I've noticed I am better able to manage stressful situations and stress in general, but I still have some questions.

Luckily, we are speaking with meditation expert, Andrew Radja who can help us with all of our questions. He is the owner of Soul Path Studio and has been practicing meditation since 2008. In episode two, Andrew gives us tons of real word examples and tips for getting started or for when we're just not getting it. He even walks us through a body scan meditation at the end of the episode. I encourage you all to follow along and give it a try!

Show Notes

“The goal in meditation isn't necessary to shut out your thoughts, it’s your ability to catch them as quickly as you can and let go of them as quickly as you can.” (1:56)

“To be quite honest I had no idea what I was doing in the beginning, I had no expectations. I just knew I was interested in this and wanted to get somewhere.” (5:20)

“It’s really about being able to observe what comes up and allow it to pass without judging it. It’s the simplest way to put it but it means so much.” (6:38)

Tips for reacting to tough emotions like anger. (6:50)

Tips for preparing for a big presentation or dealing with anxiety - “… envision yourself up there, being poised, being calm and knowing exactly what you are going to say and really feeling it…. you really want to prepare your mind to be there, before you get there.” (10:23)

“ You are always going to be distracted, but the question is: are you going to continue to think about that thought when that pops up? My recommendation is to use imagery. (12:30)

“There isn't one way to meditate. Everyone has a different mind, they think differently and process information differently so try something different.” (14:15)

“If I could recommend one thing to do, it would be to meditate immediately in the morning. I think it is one of the most transformative practices you can do… it really sets the tone for how your day is going to be.” (14:45)

Body scan meditation. (18:30 to 29:18)

Thanks for tuning in!
