In this episode Nikhil Chaudhary, Evolutionary Anthropologist and Associate Professor (University of Cambridge), talks us through his findings when investigating Hunger-Gatherer societies drawing out some of the major contrasts to the  modern world, mainly the West.

We talk about the characteristics and traits of Hunter-Gatherer tribes and how differently we have come to live today. Nikhil talks us through his research and topics including mismatch, modernity, learning, co-operation, competition, egalitarianism and how these impact the modern day stressors and mental health problems we are seeing.

Nikhil explains the useful concept of a “threat detection system” and how we can use it to help us understand our responses to the stressors we face.

Thank you to my guest, Nikhil. Lot’s of value and very topical today and I’m sure for years to come.
