Steve Webb: Your right hand will hold me fast.

0:10

Together Again, this is the Lifespring family Audio Bible

0:13

coming to you from Riverside, California, podcasting since

0:16

2004. I'm your OG God cast her Steve Webb. This is the daily

0:20

show where we're reading through the entire Bible in a year.

0:23

Today is Psalms Wednesday, and we'll read chapters 1/14 through

0:27

1/16. And today's episode will be a bit different than normal.

0:30

I'm going to give you a brief introduction to the Psalms, but

0:33

no comments afterward. I think the Psalms speak for themselves,

0:37

given the context that I'll give you in a moment. And with my

0:40

medical procedure coming up on Friday, I'm kind of crunched for

0:43

time. I will still have an on this date in church history

0:46

segment for you and a time of prayer. The title of today's

0:49

episode is he hears my voice. The show notes page is at

0:53

Lifespring media.com/s 12 e 265. And my email address is Steve at

0:59

Lifespring media.com. Let's begin.

1:04

If you heard last week's Psalms episode, Psalms 111 through 113,

1:08

the one entitled I will You might remember that Psalm 113

1:12

was the first of a collection of Psalms called the Egyptian

1:15

Hillel, the others are 114 through 118. So the total is 113

1:20

through 118. The Psalms were sung as a part of the annual

1:24

Passover celebration. Psalms 113 and 14 were sung before the

1:29

Passover meal and Psalms 115 through 118 were sung after the

1:34

meal. And it's more than likely that Jesus sang the songs with

1:38

the disciples at their Passover meal the night of his betrayal.

1:42

Once again, listen carefully, and try to imagine what must

1:45

have been going through his mind as he sang the Psalms.

1:50

Psalms chapter 114. When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of

1:56

Jacob from a people of strange language, Judah became his

1:59

sanctuary and Israel, his dominion. The sea, saw it and

2:04

fled Jordan and turned back. The mountains skipped like rams, the

2:09

little hills like lambs. What ails you? Oh, see that you fled?

2:14

Oh, Jordan, that you turned back? Oh, mountains that you

2:17

skipped like rams? Oh, little hills like lambs tremble, oh

2:22

Earth at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God

2:26

of Jacob, who turned the rock into a pool of water, the flint

2:30

into a fountain of waters. Psalms chapter 115. Let honor be given to your name and not to

2:37

us, oh Lord, not to us, because you are loving and kind and

2:41

faithful. Why should the nation say where is their God now? But

2:46

our God is in the heavens. He does whatever he wants to do.

2:50

Their gods are silver and gold, the work of human hands, they

2:54

have mouths but they cannot speak. They have eyes but they

2:57

cannot see. They have ears but they cannot hear. They have

3:01

noses but they cannot smell. They have hands but they cannot

3:05

feel they have feet but they cannot walk. They cannot make a

3:09

sound come out of their mouths. Those who make them and trust

3:13

them will be like them. Oh Israel, trust in the Lord. He is

3:17

their help and safe covering all house of Aaron trusted the Lord.

3:22

He is there help and safe covering you who fear the Lord,

3:26

trust in the Lord. He is there help and safe covering. The Lord

3:31

has remembered us and will make good come to us. He will make

3:34

good come to the house of Israel. He will make good come

3:38

to the house of Aaron. He will make good come to those who fear

3:41

the LORD, both the small and the great. May the Lord make your

3:45

numbers grow both you and your children. May you be given good

3:49

things by the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. The heavens

3:53

belong to the Lord, but he has given the earth to the children

3:56

of men. The dead do not praise the Lord. Neither do those who

4:00

go down into the quiet place. But we will give honor and

4:04

thanks to the Lord now and forever. Praise the Lord.

4:08

Psalm 116. I love the Lord because He hears my voice and my

4:14

prayers. I will call on him as long as I live because he has

4:18

turned his ear to me. The strings of death are all around

4:21

me. And the fear of the grave came upon me. I suffered with

4:25

trouble and sorrow. Then I called on the name of the Lord.

4:29

Oh Lord, I beg you saved my life. The Lord is loving and

4:33

right. Yes, our Lord is full of loving kindness. The Lord takes

4:38

care of the child like I was brought down and he saved me.

4:42

Return to your resto my soul for the Lord has been good to you.

4:46

For you, oh Lord have saved my soul from death, my eyes from

4:50

tears and my feet from falling. I will walk with the Lord in the

4:54

land of the living. I believed when I said I am very troubled.

4:58

I said in my fear of All men are liars. What should I give to the

5:02

Lord for all the good things he has done for me, I will show him

5:06

my Thanks for saving me with a gift of wine and praise his

5:09

name. I will keep my promises to the Lord before all his people.

5:14

The death of His holy ones is of great worth in the eyes of the

5:17

Lord, for sure I am your servant, oh Lord, I am your

5:21

servant, the son of the woman who served you. You have set me

5:25

free from my chains. I will give a gift of thanks to you and call

5:29

on the name of the Lord. I will keep my promises to the Lord

5:32

before all his people in the holy place of the Lord. And in

5:36

the center of you. Oh Jerusalem, praise the Lord.

5:54

On this date in church history, May 25 1868 Billy Bray of

5:59

Cornwall passed away. He was the Welsh Methodist preacher who for

6:03

43 years had preached built chapels, and taken orphans into

6:08

his home by the ministry. And on this date in church history

6:12

1876, the reformed Presbyterian Church of Scotland united with a

6:18

Free Church of Scotland to form the new Free Church of Scotland.

6:30

Let's pray. Our Heavenly Father, we praise You for being the God

6:35

who hears us. You are not far removed from us. You're always

6:39

closer than a brother. As David wrote, where can I go from your

6:43

spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the

6:47

heavens, you were there. If I make my bed in the depths, you

6:52

are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle

6:56

on the far side of the sea, even there, your hand will guide me.

7:00

Your right hand will hold me fast. Hallelujah. Lord, it is so

7:04

good to know that you are always there. And because that is true,

7:09

I'm so glad to know that you're with a Lifespring family today,

7:12

Lord, bless them, provide for their needs in love them today.
