The idea of an animated figure being used inappropriately by meme creatures to send hateful and disturbing messages is brilliant. For the first half of the story I was really absorbed. The creator of Polo the chicken comes across as dismayed at the misuse of his beloved creation. The tale drags on too long, however, and gets mired in a tedious spat between Ronnie (Polo's animator) and a relentless and irritating critic. Then, for some reason, there are doubts about Ronnie's beliefs chucked in and it becomes a critique of AI and deepfakes. These themes aren't really a problem but it's the way they are just thrown at you one after the other. The story peters out and you're left wondering what the point of it all was.
