Biblical Wisdom

For some reason, it’s really hard for me to fully explain the heart of this website. I believe that God downloaded the name Live Wise Love Well right into my brain the very day I bought my MacBook Pro and decided to pursue this dream of starting a website. I knew I wanted to create a lifestyle blog that covered the topics of family, faith, finances, health, wellness, DIY projects and basically all the things that women like me deal with on a daily basis. The light-hearted stuff and the heavy stuff. When this name popped into my head I knew it was right. It was a light bulb moment and I literally praised Jesus when the domain was available! So why does it feel like my words keep falling short when I try and describe the meaning?

I decided I’d go straight to the Source of all wisdom and let His words explain it for me. Here are some Bible verses on wisdom.

James 1:5

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

Colossians 3:16

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

2 Timothy 3:15

And how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

There are many verses that talk about ‘The Fear of God’ being the beginning of knowledge. That used to confuse me. Why does God want me to be afraid of him? Did you know that the Hebrew word for fear in these verses is yirah which in the original language translates to awe, reverence, respect. In this context, it is our reverence and respect for God that motivates us to do his will. Knowing the original language changes our perspective of the scripture!

Proverbs 1:7

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 9:10

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Psalm 111:10

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

Job 28:28

And he said to the human race, “The fear of the Lord – that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.”

Colossians 1:28

We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.

Colossians 1:9

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives

Romans 11:33

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!

Luke 2:52

And as Jesus grew up, he increased in wisdom and in favor with God and people.

James 3:13

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.

1 Corinthians 1:30

It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God – that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

Ephesians 1:17

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

James 3:17

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

Hebrews 13:7

Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. (Example of finding wise council, proven reputation of making wise choices)

Luke 2:40

And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him.

Luke 1:17

“And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous – to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Colossians 4:5

Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.

Isaiah 11:2

The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him – the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD

Psalm 90:12

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Proverbs 3:13

Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding

1 Corinthians 2:16

We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.

1 Corinthians 2:13

This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.

Proverbs 4:6

Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.

Ecclesiastes 1:18

For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief. (this is a perfect example that we are accountable for what we know.)

Isaiah 28:29

All this also comes from the LORD Almighty, whose plan is wonderful, whose wisdom is magnificent.

Revelation 7:12

Saying: “Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!”
