1:11
com to apply and learn more
1:13
and we'll see you over there. Today
1:16
we are going to talk about how to make the most
1:19
out of conferences. So let's
1:21
start this one off conference season. I
1:23
think arguably in twenty twenty two people probably
1:25
overdid it with conferences just because we're all
1:27
coming back. But the
1:29
first thing that you can do, I'm actually going to a conference
1:32
in about I want to
1:34
say, eight days or so, going to Dublin for a SaaS
1:36
conference, And so I'll just tell you literally what I'm
1:39
doing for that one. First things first, like if you
1:41
can speak right, like even if you get
1:43
to speak on a panel initially, like that's still a
1:45
good way to kick start things. Like we all started from nothing.
1:47
I started speaking at events where there's like twenty people
1:50
and I was really nervous in the beginning. Then you
1:52
start to slowly level up over time. So if you can
1:54
volunteer, figure out how you can you know, contribute,
1:56
how you can be helpful and just be a person
1:59
of value. And then also when you go to conferences
2:01
too, and that I o'kacket over to Neil. We can go
2:03
back and forth. It's instead of trying
2:05
to be like an interesting person in the room where you're like wearing
2:07
the nicest suit and all that. Just be interested
2:10
in other people. That's literally one of the easiest
2:12
reframes. If you're more interested in someone
2:14
and you're interested in what they're trying to do, and you're trying to connect
2:16
the dots for them, they're going to become more interested
2:19
in you. That's just how reciprocity works.
2:22
The way I get the most out of conferences. Yes,
2:24
speaking is great, but I know a lot of people won't be able
2:26
to speak. It's actually
2:28
head up the conference organizer and
2:31
ahead of time, they usually
2:34
have apps and programs where you can schedule
2:36
other people you want to meet, connect with
2:38
a lot of confidences that are doing that. Look
2:40
at that ahead of time they can
2:42
actually start connecting you with other members
2:44
and attendees, which helps with the networking,
2:47
and then you can figure out how to schedule meetings, whether
2:49
it's press or other companies or other attendees,
2:52
and that way you have a productive event.
2:54
You can either work on knowledge events.
2:57
I'm going to sessions and getting the
2:59
knowledge, or you can be talking with people and learning
3:01
more. Or you could try to strike up business deals and set
3:04
up meetings, or you can work with press
3:06
and try to get interviewed more to get your company
3:08
name out there. The point I'm making is
3:11
you should focus on
3:14
whatever is that you think is the
3:16
best for your goals.
3:19
Right, So if your goal is pressed, then set that up
3:21
in events. If your goals business meetings and trying
3:23
to close deals, get connected with the right
3:25
people ahead of time and just to learn.
3:27
Then you got the sessions and the agendas.
3:30
But that's what I recommend with people because then you
3:32
kind of know what you're going to do during
3:34
that event, and you're much more likely to get a huge
3:36
ROI because keep in mind a lot of people are
3:38
busy during these events because there for a short
3:41
period of time, they're flying in and out, So you
3:43
want to set this up ahead of time. Yep.
3:45
And Neil makes a good point too. I mean even
3:47
when I wasn't speaking before, I would
3:50
try to set up dinners or even like happy
3:52
hours or whatever with at least a couple
3:55
of the speakers and tell them other speakers would
3:57
be there. So the key thing is you find the lead
3:59
domino and and then you reach
4:01
out to everyone saying, oh, you know, so and so is going to be there,
4:03
and then you know, you get people coming to a dinner,
4:06
and so sometimes I'll host dinners with like ten, fifteen,
4:08
twenty people or so I think the largest one I host
4:10
it was like forty people or fifty people. But
4:13
you know, it's just a good time. And then you become known
4:15
as the connector and people will remember you long
4:17
term for doing that. And by the way, you don't need to fork out
4:19
all the money. You can have people everyone you
4:21
know, pay their share, which is kind of a pain in the butt, or you
4:23
can have a sponsor take care of the deal as well,
4:26
and I'll out a bonus and aut
4:28
of bonus like if you are speaking, if you're fortunate enough
4:30
to be speaking. For example, when I go to SAS
4:32
Talk in a couple of weeks, like i'm recording, they
4:34
have a podcast stage right, So I'm gonna be doing three
4:37
podcasts on that stage right, and I'm
4:39
gonna repurpose that content. We're gonna probably throw it
4:41
on this podcast because we're talking to marketers. And
4:43
then Monday, I'm doing the ninety minute workshop.
4:45
What are we gonna do oka, We're gonna we're probably gonna have a videographer
4:47
come in and then we're gonna record that content and we're
4:50
gonna chop it up the shorts, right and you know, I'll
4:52
throw it up on my YouTube channel or whatever, and then
4:54
like my actual talk like, they'll send me the recordings
4:56
for it. That's like a thirty minute thing and I'm
4:58
you know, from there, it's you could hire
5:01
like a videographer to go with you, just to maximize
5:03
the content. Because the reason I'm bringing this up right
5:05
now is because short form video right now, the organic
5:07
reach is so good that you can get
5:09
a lot more bang for your buck there. And you
5:11
can also send this content to your email us. It's great
5:13
for building authority as well. And so I
5:16
just think you can maximize a lot of it if you're fortunate
5:18
enough to a speak and then b if
5:20
you have some resource that you can allocate to it. I think it's
5:22
super smart to build relationships at scale.
5:24
Anything else, Neil, Nope, that's
5:26
it all right, That is it. Please don't forget
5:29
to go to levelingoup dot com slash
