up your marketing knowledge with your instructors,

Neil Patel and Eric Sue.
0:19
All right, guys, before we start, we got a special
0:21
message from our sponsor. If
0:24
you want to rank higher on Google, you gotta
0:26
look at your page speed time. The
0:28

0:33
That makes it super super important to optimize
0:35
your site for low time. And
0:37
one easy way to do it is use the host
0:40
that Eric and I use, dream Hosts. So

just go to dream host or Google it,
0:44
find it, check it out, and it's a great way
0:47
to improve your low time. Welcome
0:50
to another episode of Marketing School.
0:53
I'm Eric Sue and I'm Neil Patal, and
0:55
today we are going to talk about what
0:57
is working right now with YouTube
1:00
SEO. So just FYI just reminder
1:03
for everyone, YouTube is still
1:05
the second largest search engine in the world. Again, it's
1:07
owned by Google. So Neil,
1:09
what is working right now? Because with YouTube you've got about
1:12
seven hundred thousand subscribers right now. Yeah,
1:14
the biggest thing that I found that works with YouTube seo,
1:16
Like everyone talks about the keywords, you need to
1:18
put the keywords in your title, you need to have attractive
1:21
thumbnails for ctrs, and
1:23
that's all the stuff that everyone's doing. It's
1:25
just like traditional SEO, right, you know
1:27
this better than anyone else. Everyone can modify
1:29
their metatags, everyone can create content
1:31
that's ten minutes long, where everyone can write
1:34
two thousand word blog posts. But the
1:36
big trick that I found that really boosts
1:39
your ranking CEE. YouTube's opposite of traditional Google
1:41
SEO, which traditional Google SEO
1:44
slow and stead he wins a race, and YouTube SEO
1:46
whoever does really well in the first twenty
1:48
four hours of the video being released, tends
1:50
to win the race. And you can get your rankings
1:53
literally the day you pop up the video. It
1:55
doesn't have to take months, even for competitive
1:57
terms, it can literally be days.
1:59
The real question is how hard can
2:01
you push the video in the first twenty four hours? And what I
2:04
mean by that is can you do email
2:06
blasts, push notification blasts and Facebook
2:08
messenger blast, text blast anything
2:11
you can to get views in the first
2:13
twenty four hours. If you get a lot of traction,
2:15
and those views watch the video, they
2:17
watch other videos on YouTube, they comment
2:19
because they like the video. What you'll find
2:21
is the video starts ranking really high. Yeah,
2:24
if you think about it, I mean, the social media tools are all
2:26
created by human beings, right, So how do
2:28
these algorithms work? If you think
2:30
about LinkedIn, If I post something to LinkedIn
2:32
or someone shares something with me, they're always sharing with a bunch
2:34
of people. They want a bunch of people to like it,
2:37
they want a bunch of people to call it. They want a ton of engagement
2:39
initially, right, That's what these algorithms are looking for. They're
2:41
looking for the initial rush. So if
2:43
you're lucky enough, you're fortunate enough to have audiences
2:46
across you have email lists, if
2:48
you have push notifications. To Neil's point earlier,
2:51
that's good for you. Now here's the flip side to that.
2:53
A lot of you might be saying, well, what if we don't
2:55
have an audience. Well, I just spoke to a guy yesterday.
2:57
You know, you should definitely check out this podcast. I think you would enjoy
2:59
it. I spoke to a guy named George Gammon,
3:02
very successful entrepreneur, was doing like twenty four
3:04
million bucks a year, and then he retired, bought
3:06
up a bunch of real estate, and now moved to Mediine,
3:08
Colombia. Now he's in St. Bart's. But points
3:11
this, he does a really good job of teaching
3:13
macroeconomics. And when I was learning economics
3:15
in college, all I did was I wanted is think
3:17
called the econ tutor, and he just
3:19
gave us the answers, and we all copied the answers and
3:21
we went into class and we all got to be it's
3:24
hilarious. My point is, I didn't understand
3:26
much about economics, and then now I'm realizing,
3:28
in the current climate, you have to have a really
3:30
strong understanding of macroeconomics.
3:32
So this guy went his YouTube channel. This
3:34
guy has no audience at all, went from two hundred subscribers
3:37
he is at one hundred and sixty five thousand subscribers.
3:39
Now he did it all organically. Why
3:42
is he so successful. It's because his
3:44
level of content. Nobody's doing anything like that right
3:46
now. Nobody's breaking down macroeconomics and
3:48
making it super simple. It's always like three simple
3:51
steps, right, That's what he does. These topics
3:53
are really good. It's not like he has amazing headlines all the
3:55
time, and then I found out for him yesterday. He's like,
3:57
yeah, I spent about twelve hours on each field. I'm not saying
3:59
you need to spend twelve hours on each video, but
4:02
the level of your content. If you can
4:04
touch upon things that are hot and explain it in a
4:06
simple way, it becomes very easy to
4:08
share. I learned of him through Robert Kyosaki,
4:10
the guy that wrote Rich Dad, Poor Dad, and Boom.
4:13
Robert gets him on the channel Boom thirty five thousand subscribers
4:15
instantly. Right. So point is, if
4:17
you don't have an audience, yes, you might have to slog it out
4:19
a little bit. But look, this guy went from two hundred
4:22
to one hundred and sixty five thousand. That's only four times
4:24
what my YouTube channel is. I'm about forty five thousand
4:26
right now. So if you have audiences, definitely
4:28
push those. But if you want to kind of start
4:31
from scratch, that's another thing you can do. So it's not
4:33
impossible if you don't have an audience. I
4:35
think we pretty much covered it. And one
4:37
thing that Eric mentioned a simple way to think
4:39
about it is if you're taking a complex topic
4:42
and you can explain it to a five year old and they
4:44
really get it. You're good to go. Yeah,
4:46
we'll help your channel be more popular, makes it easier
4:48
to rank there as well. You don't want to appeal
4:50
to that person who has an Ivy League education.
4:53
You want to appeal to that average show. And I don't
4:55
mean that in a bad way. It's just like I hate when
4:57
people use crazy fancy vocabulary
4:59
that I I don't understand. I think the final thing
5:01
I'll add around this is when you think about the YouTube
5:04
algorithms. When I look at people's channels,
5:06
I think there's an inherent problem because the algorithms
5:09
are incentivizing you to only focus on those
5:11
topics. So I was looking at this one girl's channel. You
5:13
can tell she clearly wants to talk about other things,
5:16
but the only topics that work for her are Instagram.
5:18
She's got three hundred thousand subscribers now. But the
5:20
problem is YouTube funneled you down in
5:22
that direction where you can only talk about Instagram,
5:24
like, for example, Neil mostly talks about SEO, right
5:26
right Neil on YouTube? Yep? Yeah, So
5:28
I think, yes, you can definitely grow on YouTube. That's
5:31
what's working. But just keep in mind like the beauty
5:33
of doing podcasts like this if Neil and I can talk
5:35
about whatever we want and there's no algorithm to
5:37
kind of try to force us in one direction or another.
5:40
So that is it for today, text us
5:42
three one oh three, four nine, three, seven eight
5:44
five. We do actually respond, and
5:46
we'll let you know when we do stuff like this or other cool
5:48
stuff. Sometimes we might even ask you for feedback
5:50
to like I literally sent a text
5:53
to the group asking for topic ideas
5:55
and I got like a bunch at once. So text
5:58
us, it's actually us, and that is it for today, and
6:00
we will see you tomorrow.
