The best story ever was this woman, her
0:05
daughter was dressed as Raven and she was talking
0:07
and talking and talking and talking and
0:10
I looked over and her mom was crying and a lot
0:12
of people cry when they meet me. But
0:14
this was like unusual crying and she
0:17
said my daughter hasn't spoken in five
0:19
years. She's severely autistic and when she
0:21
heard you were coming she has not
0:23
stopped talking. Wow, we
0:26
have an incredibly famous voice
0:28
actor, Tara Strong. She's
0:31
Timmy Turner in The Fairly Odd Parents.
0:34
She is Bubbles in The
0:36
Powerpuff Girls. Ew, what's
0:38
that icky green stuff? She's
0:41
been in Benten, Dil Pickles. She's now
0:43
Harley in all things DC Universe. Raven,
0:45
Teen Titans Go, Batgirl, Harley and Raven,
0:47
DC Superhero Girls. You've heard her voice.
0:49
Holly Quinn on a video game might
0:51
be like it's time to kick some
0:53
ass. We're so excited to get to
0:55
talk to her about magic. All
0:58
I want to do is spread love and light
1:00
and help. Intuition. I also do believe in
1:03
beings that we don't know that are helping us.
1:06
Many of them aren't human. Manifesting. If
1:08
you don't believe in something bigger, if
1:10
you don't believe that you can try to
1:12
make yourself better, it is harder to manifest
1:14
good things. And also what it's actually like
1:17
to be the voice of so many people's
1:19
happiness. Hello Kitty's Furry Tail
1:21
Theater is proud to present The Wizard
1:23
of Paws. Hey, that's mine,
1:25
poopy! And then there's an older
1:27
dude, but he's still the same guy. That's
1:31
outrageous. After this, I get to go back to
1:33
my star planet and share everything I learned. It's
1:37
my B. Alex, break down. She's gonna break
1:39
it down for you. Because
1:41
you know she knows a thing or two.
1:45
So now she's gonna break down. It's
1:47
a breakdown. She's gonna break it down.
1:51
It's important to us that the supplements we take are of
1:53
the highest quality, and that's why for the last three years,
1:55
we've been drinking AG1. Unlike
1:57
many supplement brands, AG1 conducts
1:59
relentless testing to set the standard for
2:01
purity and potency. Jonathan, a lot of people
2:03
ask us, is AG1 actually the real deal?
2:06
What do we say? We say, absolutely, that's
2:08
the reason we've been drinking it for so long.
2:11
And quality for AG1 isn't just a
2:13
buzzword. It's a commitment backed by expert-led
2:15
scientific research, high-quality ingredients, industry-leading manufacturing, and
2:18
rigorous testing. At every step of the
2:20
process, they go above and beyond industry
2:22
standards. Jonathan, we trust AG1 because how
2:24
many contaminants and banned substances do they
2:27
test for? 950
2:30
contaminants and banned substances. And
2:32
the industry standard usually just tests for 10.
2:35
That's not enough. AG1 is
2:37
NSF-certified for sport, one of the most
2:39
rigorous independent quality and safety certification programs
2:41
in the supplement industry. Jonathan, taking care
2:43
of our health shouldn't be complicated. Why
2:45
does AG1 make it so simple? They
2:48
replace multiple health supplements like
2:50
multivitamins, digestive aids, immune support,
2:52
and more in just one
2:54
simple scoop. Their ingredients are heavily
2:57
researched for efficacy and quality, and we love
2:59
that every scoop has prebiotics, probiotics, and digestive
3:01
enzymes for gut support. Also, vitamin C and
3:03
zinc to support immune health. We've
3:06
partnered with AG1 for so long
3:08
because they make a high-quality product
3:10
that we genuinely look forward to
3:12
drinking every day. So if
3:14
you want to replace your multivitamin and more,
3:16
start with AG1. Try
3:18
AG1 and get a free
3:20
one-year supply of vitamin D3 plus
3:23
K2 and five free AG1

3:30
Check it out. Hi,
3:35
I'm Mayim Bialik. I'm Jonathan Cohen.
3:38
And welcome to our breakdown. This is the place where we break
3:40
things down so you don't have to. This
3:42
is a good one today. I highly recommend
3:44
you watch this, but you will also get
3:46
a lot out of listening to it because
3:48
we have an incredibly famous
3:51
voice actor on. Her
3:54
name is Tara Strong. And you
3:56
probably know who she is, maybe even without
3:58
knowing who she is. She began
4:00
her acting career at the age of
4:03
13 in Toronto where Jonathan is also
4:05
from They actually went to the same high school
4:07
fun facts and she did a
4:09
bunch of TV and movies and musical
4:12
theater and she landed her first lead
4:14
animated series in the title role of
4:17
Hello Kitty the first series
4:19
with an English-speaking Hello Kitty and
4:21
the voice was Tara Strong people
4:24
she ended up moving to Los Angeles after
4:26
a run in Toronto's Second City and She
4:29
did a bunch of on-camera stuff, but
4:31
she is Bubbles
4:33
in the Powerpuff Girls if you've ever listened
4:35
to the Powerpuff Girls, she's bubbles She's
4:38
Timmy Turner in the Fairly Odd Parents.
4:40
She's been in Ben 10 I've
4:43
worked with her in recess and detention. She's
4:45
been in Rugrats. She is Raven in
4:48
Teen Titans and also Teen
4:50
Titans go She's Emmy nominated. She's also the
4:52
winner of a Shorty Award. She is currently
4:55
She's Batgirl She's
4:57
she was Batgirl She's now Harley
4:59
in all things DC Universe if
5:02
you've heard anything with Harley's voice
5:04
a video game a show anything
5:06
It's Tara Strong She's
5:08
currently working on wait for it. These
5:10
are all the series she works on pretty
5:12
hard cases Raven Teen Titans
5:14
go Batgirl Harley and Raven DC
5:16
superhero girls mama box and Katy
5:18
fairy Gabby's dollhouse and Marvel's
5:21
hit Loki you've heard her voice at
5:23
some point in your life and we're
5:25
so excited to get to talk to her about magic
5:31
Intuition Manifesting and
5:33
also what it's actually like to have
5:35
to play all these voices and be
5:38
the voice of so many people's Happiness
5:41
and what that's like to interface with with all of her fans
5:45
break It down Tara
5:48
welcome to the breakdown. Thanks for
5:50
having me. Um in reading your
5:52
bio. It is worth mentioning You
5:55
work on many television shows at the same
5:58
time That's
6:00
true. Like, I think I counted eight?
6:03
Yeah, I think sometimes it's like
6:06
four and sometimes it's ten at the
6:08
same time. So you and
6:10
I used to audition in kind of the same
6:12
circles at the same sort of period of time
6:14
and there was a time when I got voiceover
6:16
work and then we ended up getting to do
6:19
an episode of Recess together and then
6:21
I stopped getting work and I realized you were
6:23
getting more and more work. By
6:26
the way, we also did Lloyd and Space
6:28
together. We were a two-headed monster. We were
6:30
a two-headed monster, that's right. But
6:33
it's really, it's
6:36
an astounding, impressive resume
6:38
that you have in
6:40
that you are able
6:42
to have your voice on
6:44
so many different platforms at
6:47
the same time. And I have
6:49
to ask, was this like a
6:52
dream of yours as a child? Like I have
6:54
an amazing voice and I'm going to get to
6:56
be on ten shows at the same time. No.
7:01
Okay, I knew when I was five years
7:03
old that I think you're the same, wanted
7:05
to be singer dancer actress. It's all I
7:07
wanted and I knew that before
7:10
I knew it was a career, it
7:12
just looked fun and I
7:14
came here to perform and no one in
7:16
my family was a performer except a grandfather
7:19
who was a canter. But
7:21
nobody knew anything about showbiz. I grew up
7:23
in Toronto. My mom was a caterer. My
7:25
dad was a pharmacist. We had a toy
7:27
store. I grew up in this
7:30
toy store and my parents were the first to
7:32
import Hello Kitty into Toronto. I have a picture
7:34
of myself as a five-year-old with my dad in
7:36
a Hello Kitty furry costume. And
7:39
like we didn't have a lot of
7:41
money, but they were very supportive of
7:43
me fulfilling this dream and I had
7:45
lots of acting, singing, dancing classes my
7:47
whole life. My first sort
7:50
of professional performance was at the Yiddish theatre.
7:52
I spoke Hebrew, not Yiddish, but I learned
7:54
it phonetically and all the boobies called me
7:56
the wundermaid luck and it was very wonderful.
8:00
And then I finally got an
8:02
agent and I got my
8:04
first theatre production at Toronto's downtown Lime Lights dinner
8:06
theatre, which was the Music Man and a lot
8:08
of people's first show was the Music Man. And
8:12
my first on-camera show, which was a show with
8:14
Mr. T, and my first cartoon, which was Hello
8:17
Kitty. I was the
8:19
first English-speaking voice, the first time she had a
8:21
mouth, was 13. Wait, so
8:23
this blew my mind. I didn't notice about
8:25
you. I started when I was 13. And
8:28
you were Hello Kitty? First series.
8:31
That was the title role of Hello Kitty. First time
8:33
she had a mouth. It's the first time she had a mouth.
8:35
What does that sound like? Hello Kitty is for
8:37
each of theatre's products to present The Wizard of
8:40
Pause. That's exactly what
8:42
I think Hello Kitty should sound like.
8:44
Yeah, she does. Yeah. So
8:46
I did it now. And in Toronto,
8:48
I had a very well-rounded
8:51
career. I had a
8:53
sitcom that was, you know, I was the kid in
8:55
the sitcom. I had lots of
8:57
film and TV roles, a lot of runaway
8:59
production stuff that went to Toronto that I
9:01
shot, and tons of cartoons. Beetlejuice Care Bears,
9:03
My Pet Monster, you know, garbage
9:05
pail kids, all kinds of crazy stuff. So
9:08
then when I came here, it wasn't a blank
9:10
resume, right? I had a very extensive resume. But
9:12
even with that, it did take some time. I
9:15
was eviction notice broke for like two years. And
9:17
great story, the person who gave me Hello
9:20
Kitty saved my LA existence and called me
9:22
and said, would you be on the new
9:24
Inspector Gadget show? It's called Gadget Boy and Heather. So
9:26
she gave me Hello Kitty. And then she gave me
9:29
the job that kept me in Los Angeles. And her
9:31
name is Marisha Goodman. So she's
9:33
my voice over angel. She's your, yeah,
9:35
fairy dog mother. So, okay. So
9:38
I want to go back to what you did
9:40
with your voice when you did
9:42
your Hello Kitty voice. I can't do
9:45
that with my voice. A lot of people
9:47
can't do that. When did
9:49
you realize you had this kind
9:51
of ability to create voices very
9:53
distinctive from yours? Are you sure
9:56
you can't do that? I can't do that. I
9:59
think you just think you can. do that but I bet
10:01
if you had the challenge to do that like
10:03
what if they're like okay we want you to
10:05
play June foray in her life-time story and you
10:07
have to practice I bet you're being right you're
10:09
being very you're being very humble because everybody
10:12
has different vocal chords and everybody
10:14
has different different musculature in there
10:16
in those parts like you do things with
10:19
your with your voice and with your vocal
10:21
chords that don't hurt your voice like I
10:23
can do things with my voice but I
10:25
can only do it a couple times. When
10:28
did you realize that you had the
10:30
ability to sort of do a variety
10:32
of different sounds and then most people
10:34
can make? Probably pretty young because I
10:36
did always do funny voices my sister
10:38
and I had our own little fake
10:40
radio station when we record ourselves and
10:43
I was the kid at six seven years old
10:45
that would take my mom's hand and say let's
10:47
pretend we're from England in this store like
10:50
I loved doing accents and voices
10:52
always so it's definitely like I
10:55
think like look mine you came with
10:58
a brilliant brain and a gorgeous singing voice
11:00
and acting abilities there's no question there are
11:02
kids that come that play the piano guitar
11:04
we know these kids can paint shit at
11:06
like I don't know can we say show
11:08
on the show at like five years old
11:10
right like you come with certain gifts so
11:12
I think one of mine is the ability
11:14
to manipulate my voice create characters that seem
11:16
to make people feel something which is what
11:18
really matters right a lot of people come
11:20
to me and say oh I really want
11:22
to give voice over and that's their voice
11:24
and I'm like have you had any acting
11:26
experience right because it's not about having a
11:28
interesting voice or a unique voice it will
11:30
work for some commercial careers
11:33
or promo careers or like a job
11:35
here and there that they have a
11:37
very distinct voice that that works for
11:39
but to sustain a Long
11:41
career where you are creating multiple characters
11:43
you do need to have. Most of us
11:45
have that can do this a pretty
11:47
normal sounding voice and can manipulate our
11:49
sound to become other characters. which is
11:51
what happens right? You don't just change your
11:54
voice you for me in my process
11:56
I See them in my head. They
11:58
live in my head when it's. Their
12:00
turn to come down. They do. and
12:02
I become these characters so that it
12:04
makes people feel something when they're watching
12:06
it. And you know, have you gone
12:08
to Comecon. Yeah, you.
12:10
Know when you go people out. You.
12:13
Are my childhood you ira You know
12:15
I didn't have friends till the celery
12:17
I thought I was the only person
12:19
like me till this show and then
12:21
when you realize the impact that you
12:24
have on people it's so beautiful so
12:26
I consider it like this are beautiful
12:28
gift that I was given to Like
12:30
share, love and light and like. I
12:33
feel so lucky every time I book
12:35
something. Even now I started most thirteen,
12:37
I'm fifty one. Even now I'd like
12:39
dropped to the floor, hands up to
12:41
the sky. I. Liked as I
12:43
move it, it's I do. So. When you'd
12:45
just dropped into that character. Or
12:48
moment ago. And. And you just
12:50
said they live in your head like. Is.
12:53
A busy in your home or yeah
12:55
it was observed is very busy. And
12:57
I think a lot of people have busy brains,
12:59
but unless they have them and all the different
13:01
voices, And it's
13:03
not that they're all speaking at the same time, it's
13:06
said they live there in their own little faces, and
13:08
when it's their turn to come out and play. It's
13:10
not like I. Do anything. It's
13:13
like breathing. I
13:15
can't really describe it, they just come
13:17
out. I know, I know when it's
13:19
my it's this characters turn and I
13:21
also know specific right? Like I've played
13:23
maybe five, six, seven, ten versions of
13:25
Harley Rights Cel Holly plan on a
13:28
video game might be like you know
13:30
ecstatic kids as and she likes more
13:32
like action and then on a kid
13:34
says maybe like. A.
13:37
And see like really hyper And then I played
13:39
her very dark and so when I get a
13:41
script well when they are dark Harley. Well.
13:44
I did a very dark Harley and she
13:46
wasn't even. Ah, the same like
13:48
she was like a Boston. Highly like
13:50
it was like a lower. Leg.
13:53
And she was very evil. But what I'm saying
13:55
is when I see the script and read. ah
13:58
you know the character descriptions and whatever
14:00
is going on in the stage directions I know
14:03
exactly which version of that to tap into like
14:05
when we did Rugrats right there was a baby
14:07
deal and
14:11
there's an older deal but
14:13
he's the same guy that's
14:17
outrageous Sarah like I know
14:20
you and I've seen you work and
14:22
every time it's just it's really unbelievable
14:24
to me mine

17:14
ever a point when you get a
17:16
script and it's like, oh, which, how,
17:18
what, it's sounding too much like this
17:20
other one or do they feel so
17:22
distinctive? It's never confusing
17:24
when it's an established character. And sometimes people
17:26
were like, can you do like Timmy Turner
17:28
on this show? And I'm like, no, Timmy
17:30
Turner lives on the Fairly Ad parents. So
17:32
we're not going to do that. But I,
17:35
at one point was playing like five
17:38
different tragic 16 year old
17:40
girls. Another point I was playing like five
17:42
different 10 year old boys and each of
17:44
them had to have something distinct about them
17:46
or I couldn't live with myself because they're
17:49
their own entity for sure. So
17:51
the only
17:53
time it gets confusing is if there's like a guest star
17:55
and you know how it is sometimes like, oh, can you
17:57
do this extra character? And then somehow that extra character just
18:00
comes back and you don't remember what it is, but they play it
18:02
for you. That's the only time it gets confusing. What
18:04
about not in a script? Like,
18:06
I'm still stuck with all these characters
18:08
residing in your head. And
18:11
like, do they appear
18:13
when you're not working? All the time.
18:16
But, but it's more like I do voices all the
18:18
time. I do voice, like if you're friends with me,
18:20
if you're dating me, you're gonna hear not just
18:23
this. This
18:25
is what I'm the most interested in
18:27
is like, when in your regular life,
18:29
are you basically processing the world? And
18:31
because all these characters are living in
18:33
your head, like certain
18:36
experiences are gonna drop this personality. I'm
18:38
not saying you're multiple personalities. I'm not
18:40
saying that. But
18:42
I am. I think like you
18:44
can't help if you know these characters so deeply,
18:46
they become a bit of a part of you.
18:49
And how could you not like we, we all
18:52
have these different personas that we drop into. You
18:55
just happen to have a wider
18:57
repertoire and they each have personalities,
18:59
which I think is just awesome.
19:02
They do. And it's a very
19:07
symbiotic relationship. So
19:09
that there's a lot of me in bubbles and there's
19:12
a lot of bubbles in me. And
19:14
I'm probably most like bubbles
19:17
because I'm super sweet.
19:19
I want everyone to be friends. And then
19:21
if you piss me off, I will go hardcore. Like
19:24
that's me in person, right? I'm just
19:27
usually very light, positive attraction. Let's
19:30
go do fun shit. Everybody come to my
19:32
house, but like, okay, I will kick your
19:34
ass if I have to. That's like, right?
19:36
That's me. So, and then there
19:38
are other characters that feel very, pardon me,
19:41
Twilight Sparkle is like super
19:43
part of me. And when I first read for
19:45
that part, so Powerpuff Girls was
19:47
created by a man named Craig McCracken and he
19:49
is married to Lauren Faust who worked on that
19:51
show. And she created My Little Pony, Friendship is
19:53
Magic, which is the biggest fandom
19:55
I've ever seen in my life. And
19:58
it was unbelievable. and
20:00
so fun, but that character came about because
20:03
she came to my house and said, hey,
20:05
I'm putting together a pitch for a new
20:07
version of the ponies with more depth in
20:10
their characters as opposed to just selling toys.
20:12
And I think that's why it spoke to so many people.
20:15
And she's she had me read three different characters
20:17
and just
20:20
for the pitch presentation and she said as soon
20:22
as she heard me do Twilight, she knew I
20:24
was going to be that character. And I think
20:26
it's because part of me is very similar to
20:28
her. And another same thing. She's always like ready
20:30
to leave the pack. She wants everyone to be
20:32
friends. She wants to do everything right. She loves
20:34
to read. She's like, loves magic.
20:36
I love magic. Like when you say, is
20:38
it, you know, a part of
20:40
you, like there is a part
20:42
of me, like let's get weird a minute,
20:45
that feels like these creatures are sentient.
20:47
And so like when someone says
20:50
to me, I wanted
20:53
to end my life till I met Raven
20:55
and they're crying and
20:57
they're hugging me. The best story
20:59
ever was this woman, her daughter was dressed as
21:01
Raven and she was talking and talking and talking
21:03
and talking. And I looked over and her mom
21:06
was crying and a lot of people cry when
21:08
they made me. But this
21:10
was like unusual crying. So I went
21:12
over to see if she was okay.
21:14
And she said my daughter hasn't spoken in
21:17
five years. She's severely autistic. And when she
21:19
heard you were coming, she has not stopped
21:21
talking. And
21:24
so I feel like
21:26
a conduit for these, you
21:28
know, I know that sounds weird, but it's like, it can't
21:31
just be me. Like I feel
21:33
so lucky that something I did help someone like
21:35
that. And I hear stories like that all the time. So
21:39
I mean, maybe I'm a crazy person, but they
21:41
feel very sentient to me. They feel like they
21:44
matter a lot of my major characters. And
21:46
also I feel very lucky that there's been
21:48
so many major characters, right? Not many people
21:51
can say I was Batgirl and Harley and
21:53
Timmy Turner and Bubbles and Namas Minnis and
21:55
all these characters that really touched people's lives.
21:57
Raven, Twilight Sparkle. Like these are very important
21:59
to. people around the world and when
22:01
I go to cons around the world people like oh
22:03
you go for the money no
22:06
the money is nice but that
22:08
exchange of light magic and energy
22:10
is so beautiful and
22:12
important to me and sometimes people like you
22:14
know you shouldn't hug everybody or you shouldn't
22:17
do this how can I not
22:19
hug someone when they come to me and said my
22:21
childhood was so hard and
22:24
fairly odd parents was the only thing that got
22:26
my dad to sit down with me and like
22:28
can I have a hug no like no you
22:31
know I just it's a beautiful
22:33
exchange I just had a con two weeks
22:36
ago and a guy was a grown man
22:38
was crying to me saying his daughter was
22:40
born autistic and very young they
22:42
found out she was very autistic and couldn't really connect and
22:44
he's like I was so worried that I would never connect
22:47
with her I didn't know how to connect with my kid
22:49
and then I was feeling like a terrible person and then
22:51
we sat down and watched my little pony and that's
22:54
our thing and we communicate through
22:56
that and like thank you and he's bawling
22:59
there's something that that Jonathan mentioned you
23:01
know it's known as dissociative identity disorder
23:03
now instead of multiple personality disorder but
23:06
it's something that even people who do like
23:08
internal family systems work where you look
23:10
at different parts of you there are
23:12
different parts of us that have different
23:15
personas and they have different needs and
23:17
you know in some of the really interesting research
23:20
on people with dissociative identity
23:22
disorder sometimes personalities will have
23:25
different blood pressure they'll have
23:27
completely different physiological things
23:29
meaning you know when people split into parts
23:31
it's usually because of trauma and you know
23:34
really really fragmented things but the
23:36
notion that there are different
23:38
parts of us that that live in
23:40
us is not outside of the
23:42
realm of understanding and it doesn't just have
23:44
to be in clinical situations but there's something
23:47
you said that I really want it since
23:49
we're getting deep there's something I
23:51
want to dig into a little more you said
23:53
that you understood from a young age that you
23:55
could manipulate your voice and
23:57
I wonder if that ever felt like
24:00
also an emotional ability not to be
24:02
manipulative but to be able to change I
24:04
mean as actors that's what we have to
24:07
do we have to make you
24:09
believe something we have to make you feel
24:11
good we have to make you comfortable right
24:13
and for me I had a lot of
24:15
that in my home of origin I don't
24:17
know if you did but the
24:19
notion of maybe that's
24:21
part of this sort of gift as
24:24
you said is that when you're given
24:26
the ability to be a performer to
24:28
make people feel something it really is
24:30
the ability to to change
24:33
where you are for other
24:35
people's in some cases comfort
24:37
and sometimes that means for
24:39
their enjoyment or their entertainment but I wonder
24:41
if you can talk a little bit about
24:43
if you notice that kind of outside of
24:45
your artistic abilities I
24:48
know like when you said that the
24:50
first thing that felt true is to
24:52
make people laugh I really like that
24:54
especially with my mom my mom was
24:56
my kindred spirit and my
24:58
mom was very heavy and her whole
25:01
life was bullied and I never saw
25:03
her eat to excess she's first-generation
25:05
Russian Jew grew up in a catering
25:07
world where I'm sure they made not
25:10
great choices growing up but she wasn't
25:12
like someone that over eight and every
25:15
one in her family had thyroid and diabetes
25:17
and problems right and she
25:20
was in a tremendous amount of pain both physically
25:22
and emotionally children would laugh at her adults would
25:24
laugh at her kids would come to me at
25:26
school and say your mom's the fattest person ever
25:29
and I would see her cry and I would hold
25:31
her hand and tell her she's the most beautiful person
25:33
I've ever seen and she is and I
25:35
miss her so much like I miss helping her
25:37
you know like I miss being an arm for
25:39
her in her later life she had horrible osteoarthritis
25:41
she used to say it was like stepping on
25:43
a knife and like the
25:46
fact that she had to endure people
25:48
making fun of this beautiful soul made
25:50
me so sad and when I made
25:52
her laugh when I made this very
25:54
sad human laugh she took such joy
25:56
in seeing me perform on stage on
25:58
a show on
26:00
a cartoon, whatever it was, in
26:02
person, making voices, doing funny things.
26:04
My mom's laugh was like my
26:06
external success for sure,
26:08
for sure. So probably to bring joy
26:10
and make people laugh. And also, like
26:12
you said, to make people believe things.
26:15
Like last, uh, over COVID I did
26:17
an on-camera series in Toronto that was
26:19
basically, if Harley was a mom, that
26:21
was this character. And it
26:23
was a wonderful part because I usually
26:25
play like, you know, cute teacher or
26:27
bitch slut, whatever. Like I have roles
26:29
that I tend to book, but like
26:32
third on the call sheet at 49 was
26:34
kind of awesome. And it
26:36
was with Adrian Moore from Orange is the
26:38
New Black. And, um, it
26:41
was from Netflix Canada, aired here on IMDB TV.
26:43
So I don't know where you can find it,
26:45
but to play this like terrible
26:48
person that was basically like, you
26:50
know, using her daughter to date some kid
26:53
to sell drugs. Like it was like
26:55
really crazy. And I don't know that I
26:57
looked so beautiful, but it was a
26:59
performance that I was very proud of
27:01
in terms of acting and believability and making
27:03
people feel, because when you can make
27:05
people feel empathy for the
27:07
villain and the bad character, I think
27:10
that's like a really wonderful thing. And
27:12
so I do think there's something about
27:14
making people feel something and making people
27:17
have empathy for other people. Like I'm
27:19
a very, very empathetic soul. I think
27:21
most real actors
27:23
are right. We know how other people
27:25
feel. We care about how other people
27:28
feel. And we want to help portray that and
27:30
help that when I was doing the Rugrats episode, you
27:32
know, like whenever the Rugrats would
27:34
go into adventures, you'd see the adventures.
27:37
And there was an episode where the kids
27:39
were at a car dealership and they said,
27:41
let's pretend we're under, under the sea. And
27:44
all the fish were people and this
27:46
heavyset lady walks by and you know, Tommy Pickles
27:48
was like, look, there's a whale. And I stopped tape
27:50
and I went to the producers and I'm like,
27:52
can we make it a muscle man so
27:54
that we don't perpetuate that hatred?
27:57
And they're like, no problem. So
28:00
like a big part of me is
28:02
wanting to keep perpetuating that. I
28:05
wonder if you can talk a little bit more about that. I
28:10
think our culture kind of
28:12
goes back and forth with how we
28:14
feel about clinical
28:16
discussions of obesity and BMI and all
28:18
these things. I
28:20
wonder if you can talk a little bit
28:23
about sort of what you see in terms
28:25
of like what is body positivity? What
28:28
does that look like if you think about
28:30
kind of your mom's experience and especially
28:32
being the child of someone who's
28:35
receiving all of this hatred
28:38
and bullying? I mean, it's not even
28:40
bullying. It's ignorance
28:42
and it's horrible. I wonder
28:44
if you have any sort of reflections,
28:47
especially as your career is so much
28:49
about appearance. Like it has to be
28:51
for us, even if you're a voiceover actor, right, as your
28:53
primary work. That's
28:55
so true. It's so true. It's
28:57
so important because also sometimes they want you to do press.
28:59
Also they draw a character to look like you a little
29:01
bit more or create a character for you. So
29:04
it is an important piece. And I do remember as
29:06
a child watching a movie of the week and saying,
29:09
Oh, I want to be that girl. I
29:11
want to be on a movie. I want to be in Teen
29:13
Beat magazine. I want to do all that. I mean, I was
29:15
a huge fan of yours, by the way. The
29:18
moment I saw you in beaches,
29:21
I was obsessed. I
29:24
think I told you that the first time
29:26
I met you. Like you're a super magical,
29:28
talented, insane being. And also,
29:30
by the way, I grew up with a sister
29:33
who was very different mentally. She
29:35
had a brain injury at
29:38
one years of age and comes across
29:40
like someone on the Asperger's scale
29:43
and was also bullied her entire life. And
29:45
I would have her back at school. So
29:47
I had the experience of watching someone different
29:49
and someone obese and what that looks like
29:52
in terms of being mean for no reason.
29:54
Right. Very, very good humans.
29:56
These are sweet, caring humans that
29:58
would do anything. for you. And
30:01
I think it did give me a base
30:05
and an understanding that maybe someone else wouldn't
30:07
about why you shouldn't say that to someone
30:09
or be mean to someone or make a
30:11
judgment call, right? Like I said, I never
30:13
send my mom overeat. You look at a
30:15
big person like, oh, they must eat all
30:17
day. But we all have that friend that's
30:20
this skinny that can eat french fries and
30:22
cake all day and never gain weight and
30:24
they don't realize how lucky they are. This
30:26
is a million different bodies. When you go
30:28
to the beach, there are not two bodies
30:30
the same. I've definitely
30:32
struggled with borderline eating disorders, starving
30:35
myself, believe me, anything to feel
30:37
like I look good enough for
30:39
the camera. And it's very challenging.
30:41
And if I say today, I
30:43
don't struggle with it, I'd be
30:45
lying. I don't feel
30:47
good if I don't work out every day. It's, uh,
30:50
I like to feel good and look at it and
30:52
keep inside and outside healthy. So it's a very big
30:54
part of me. And I also saw growing up what
30:57
happens if you don't take care of
30:59
yourself and exercise young, right? You can't just
31:01
start at 60 and I mean,
31:03
maybe you can, but it's harder, right? Like it's
31:05
better to sort of try to maintain. And I
31:07
don't have a perfect body. I've like never loved
31:09
my legs, you know, there are girls that could
31:12
go out with a little mini skirt. This never
31:14
been me. I just, I danced when I was
31:16
a kid, I'm five foot two, I've got, you
31:18
know, bigger size, I've got a Jew booty. I'm
31:20
like, I'm not a waif, right? And
31:23
I never like, I don't
31:25
want to be, I'm more happy in my
31:27
skin now and go, this is me. I,
31:29
you know, I'm pretty happy with it, but
31:31
I do appreciate the women
31:33
who put themselves out there at all sizes
31:36
to make people see beauty comes in all
31:38
sizes. And thank God, like what I find
31:40
beautiful isn't what someone else, I mean, sometimes
31:42
it is that like, you know, some people
31:44
really like people with a lot more meat
31:47
on them. Some people really like people more
31:49
slender. So like, thank God that's open. Like,
31:51
love everybody. Let everyone do what they're going
31:54
to do. Don't judge people. I just, I
31:56
despise bullying on such a big level because
31:58
it's ingrained in me. me in my, it's
32:01
in my bloodstream, right? Like to
32:04
be mean to people for no reason, to hate
32:06
an entire group of people. Like all
32:09
of that where you hate an entire
32:11
group, you hate fat people, you hate
32:13
LGBTQ, you hate black people, Jewish people,
32:15
Muslim people, you hate Asian people, you
32:17
hate whatever you hate, to hate an
32:19
entire group is for the one same
32:21
reason. Do you know what it is?
32:25
There isn't one. You
32:28
can hate someone who wronged you in business and
32:30
love. You can hate someone
32:32
else, okay. But to hate an entire
32:34
group to have a judgment against an
32:36
entire group makes zero sense and shouldn't
32:38
be tolerated. And everybody should learn that
32:40
we are all one person and should love each other and see
32:43
each other and help each other. That's what we're here to do.
32:45
I love that. I
32:48
wonder if you'll talk a little bit more about
32:52
moving away from Toronto. How
32:55
old were you when you came to LA? I
32:59
was 20, 1920. I had, I always wanted to come to
33:01
LA, always. Like I knew I would
33:03
always come
33:06
here. And I got
33:09
into college, I got into Amden, New York, and a college
33:11
in Toronto. And I booked three movies and I had to
33:13
choose. And I chose movies.
33:16
And I had three
33:18
callbacks for Toronto's Beauty and the Beast for
33:20
Belle. And I didn't get it. And I
33:22
was so devastated that I'm like, I'm
33:25
going to LA. And
33:28
I came and I didn't really know anyone. I knew
33:30
the guy that played my dad on
33:32
a sitcom who has now passed, he was a comic named
33:34
Mike McDonald and his wife Bonnie let me stay with them
33:36
in Glendale. And I was there for
33:38
a few months. It was so sweet of them. Big
33:41
earthquake was my second week, 94. Yeah.
33:44
And it was very, very
33:46
hard to leave my mom because, you know, I
33:48
was there for her so completely, both
33:50
physically and emotionally. And we are so close. It
33:52
was very, very hard to leave. And my sister
33:54
and my dad and my friends and a career
33:57
that was consistent. It was hard, but I knew
33:59
it was I knew that's what I had to
34:01
do. There wasn't ever a question on that. And
34:06
I think, you know, after that, the
34:08
only other person I really knew well was also
34:11
from our same high school, Jonathan Nev Campbell.
34:14
And we got an apartment together. She moved
34:16
down. Yeah, and wore my shirt to
34:18
audition for party five and booked it. So I think
34:20
it's the shirt. I think it was the shirt.
34:27
My MB Alex breakdown is supported by ritual. Jonathan,
34:30
I just found out that 95% of pregnant women are
34:33
not getting their recommended daily intake of key omega
34:35
3s. That's really, really not
34:37
good. And to ritual, their
34:39
prenatal contains 350 milligrams of
34:42
eco-friendly vegan omega 3 DHA in
34:44
every serving, sourced from algal oil
34:46
instead of fish. It's
34:48
important to take a prenatal multi even before
34:50
you're pregnant. The first 28 days of pregnancy
34:52
are incredibly important for the baby's neural development.
34:55
There's no such thing as too soon to
34:57
start. And with supplements, less is sometimes more.
34:59
Many vitamin brands contain excess nutrients that your
35:01
body doesn't even need. Ritual is essential for
35:04
women is research staffed and science backed.
35:06
It's easy and painless to incorporate ritual products
35:08
into my daily routine. And I love that
35:10
they're vegan friendly. Ritual's prenatal multivitamin is
35:12
made traceable with vegan bio available and
35:15
clinically studied key nutrients for before and
35:17
during pregnancy, like as we mentioned, omega
35:19
3 DHA to support brain development and
35:21
choline and methylated folate to support neural
35:23
tube development. Capsules feature a delayed release
35:26
design to make it gentle on an
35:28
empty stomach. And a citrus essence makes
35:30
taking your multis actually enjoyable, rigorously tested
35:32
and validated by a third party for
35:34
allergens, microbes, and heavy metals. Ritual works
35:37
with world class certification bodies to validate
35:39
their products. Ritual multivitamins are vegan, non
35:41
GMO project verified, gluten and major
35:43
allergen free, certified B Corp, and
35:45
made traceable. Why settle for a
35:47
multivitamin you're not 100% sure about? Ritual

37:13
Ambulance Breakdown is supported by
37:15
Airbnb. I love staying at Airbnbs,
37:18
especially if I'm going somewhere longer
37:20
than a day or two, like recently
37:22
I was gone for a month and
37:24
stayed in an incredible Airbnb where I
37:26
felt like I was home. It
37:29
was decorated beautifully. I got to
37:31
like relax and have a work
37:33
and living environment that felt honestly
37:36
better than home. It
37:38
helped me keep my nutrition on track because
37:40
I could cook and it just like it
37:42
helped my mental health in general. When
37:44
I was staying at this Airbnb, it
37:46
made me think of how many people could
37:48
be hosting their space when they're out of
37:50
town. So many people don't realize they might
37:53
have an Airbnb, literally right
37:55
under their own nose, and you might be thinking like
37:57
my space couldn't be, but it's actually not true. If
37:59
you're concerned about- the time commitment, you should
38:01
know that you can just Airbnb your place even
38:03
a few weeks a year when you're traveling, especially
38:05
if you're someone who likes to host and you've
38:07
put all those little details that really elevate a
38:09
space and make it unique, share it with someone
38:12
else. Airbnb hosting can be a way to earn
38:14
some extra money and make sure your space is
38:16
being utilized, even if it's just when you're out
38:18
of town. Your home might be worth more than
38:20
you think. Find out how much at airbnb.com slash
38:23
host. How
38:27
long after you were here until you were able
38:29
to kind of support yourself? Because I'm always
38:31
curious about sort of, you know, we
38:33
see you with this incredibly impressive resume now
38:35
and you're a grown up and you know,
38:37
you have two grown kids, but I'm curious
38:40
if you can talk a little bit about
38:42
what it was like when you were young and
38:44
what those doubts were like, or were you
38:46
afraid that maybe you made the wrong decision
38:48
or were you kind of on a role
38:50
and just kept going? Well,
38:55
I always knew this is what I was here to
38:57
do. There wasn't a black backup plan. There wasn't anything
38:59
else I would try or do. Like I always knew
39:01
that was what I had to do. And
39:03
like I said, we didn't have a ton of
39:05
money. We were fine. I didn't have a shower
39:07
in my house. I shared a room with my
39:09
sister till I was 16. I wasn't someone that
39:11
came from a lot of money. We were fine.
39:13
What do you mean there wasn't a shower? I
39:15
mean, there was a bathtub and, you
39:19
know, it wasn't like a big
39:21
cool house. It was like, it wasn't until
39:23
I was like 16, I
39:25
kept begging and we finally got a really shitty shower. It
39:28
was like trickle, trickle. I always had long hair.
39:30
It was terrible. And
39:33
then when I moved to LA, I was super
39:36
broke, like eviction notice broke. And
39:38
I remember at one
39:40
point crying in my apartment by myself
39:43
thinking like nobody
39:45
knows I'm here right now in this moment. You
39:47
know, when you have those moments where like nobody
39:49
knows this little sphere that's around me of sadness
39:52
right now that I'm sitting in. Nobody
39:54
knows that I'm here. Nobody cares. I
39:57
can't pay the bills. I can't, I can't. He
40:00
basically my mom or dad is any money
40:02
that oh hello money? Like maybe I should
40:04
go back to Canada because at least I
40:06
know I will work there. They know me
40:08
there and it's a much smaller pool of
40:11
actors in Toronto and I've been working since
40:13
I'm thirty. Maybe I should go back, but
40:15
I really wanted to stay. Also the weather
40:17
so much better. I
40:20
really really want to say it. Like I
40:22
said, Marcia Goodman called me and asked me
40:24
to do gadget. gadget was like kept me
40:26
her. What kept me here is ah. I
40:28
had a few little on camera things and
40:30
then. I
40:33
booked the Power Puff girls. And
40:35
Fat Girl which was huge alongside Kevin
40:37
Conroy and Mark Hamill. And I'm also
40:39
a hundred episodes of One Hundred and
40:41
One Dalmatians which never happens. Back me
40:43
up your mind, it was a guarantee.
40:45
Hundred up As a know, that's not
40:47
even a thing. Yeah, so those three
40:49
happened at the same time and then
40:51
Hollywood was like his as girl. Wow,
40:53
That's what kind of kept me here.
40:55
Those three. And. This
40:58
was before you were married like you
41:00
were still just wow. Does. Appear
41:02
like divine intervention to have that all
41:04
have been in that moment. I've
41:06
had a lot of moments that celts. Like.
41:09
I. Had help for sure. Ah, one
41:11
of the most. I.
41:13
Think important ones to me just because she's
41:15
so important is. Like I
41:17
said when I was doing like. All
41:20
these tragic girls like back girl is
41:22
like my own voice right? is very
41:24
real on and not like a party
41:26
you know she was. Sort.
41:28
Of serious and on the darker side
41:30
of. A teenage girl as
41:33
also playing highly. An Extreme Ghostbusters.
41:35
Very dark characters. sure you know
41:37
where get on. Ah, Detention
41:39
yeah detention they get I wasn't. It
41:41
ends and with yeah I designs and
41:43
yelled at and so I thought well
41:45
I'll probably bookstore fire because the character
41:47
descriptions said she was a grownup. Bubbles.
41:50
Hiller. I'm a grown up. I
41:52
am literally bubbles and and grown up. So
41:54
I'm going to books that part it's and
41:56
they still enemies. Read for Raven So I
41:58
read it. just run, lying on my acting
42:00
skills, putting myself in those moments. and of
42:02
course it sounded like that girl. Which.
42:05
Was for the same People are like Obama
42:07
guy. Yeah that's and I'm walking past. A
42:10
out of the recording studio to were
42:12
producers, writers, casting engineers are in the
42:14
bay and I look at Andrea Ramona
42:16
like tonight. try something else and she
42:18
likes her and I don't know where
42:20
it came from. God shot angels out.
42:22
what are we want to call it?
42:24
I just had this idea that we're
42:26
all whenever she spoke with her, my
42:28
voice. But
42:33
that is what bugs. The part is that like
42:35
I hadn't I didn't know before I was going
42:37
in that I was gonna do that. Same
42:40
thing with Ah Hundred One Dalmatians. I was
42:42
auditioning for a chicken that thought she was
42:44
a dog and the character description was she
42:46
was like cyber and gets flustered and lay
42:48
before I went in right before I called
42:50
my mom I'm like have this crazy idea
42:52
she like why am I wouldn't be funny
42:54
that like since you so hyper that every
42:56
time to read a beer a Pc gets
42:58
caught she started plucking like Woody Me too
43:00
much growing jobs would make represents even you
43:02
ask me why. To
43:05
the Jets do that. I mean that the Eagles a
43:07
level of. It's a level of
43:09
independent creativity that I think a lot of
43:11
people don't. Think. About when they
43:13
think about you know the actual performance
43:15
level of voiceover actors and you know I
43:18
I've got one of your the upper
43:20
to get. Us
43:22
out i'm not an asset is question to as
43:24
I used to lot more voice. Overs when I
43:27
was younger and. You know, I used
43:29
to get asked that and I always had to see. A
43:31
picture at. Always had to see a picture
43:33
of it if they didn't have a drawing.
43:35
If they didn't have anything, it was. And
43:38
it was impossible. But that
43:40
was what. Does. It like
43:42
there was usually physicality that went to
43:44
it and it's not unlike playing a
43:46
character role which not every actor gets
43:48
character role. Meaning if you're more of
43:50
a classic leading lady are leading gentlemen.
43:52
you often don't play character role, you
43:54
play like a handsome lead or you
43:56
play like the pretty girl that everybody
43:59
wants to date. But for those of
44:01
us who have like. Character roles
44:03
that we do. it's much more similar
44:05
to meet to voiceover. You really have
44:07
to to craft that I'm. I.
44:10
Wonder if you can talk about. Like.
44:12
Manifesting and you know, kind
44:14
of the positivity that you.
44:17
Have. There seems to be this kind
44:20
of running seem of you having a sort
44:22
of. Confidence. That feels
44:24
like it comes from somewhere else and
44:26
I wondered, does it feel. Does.
44:28
It feel like intuition. Does it
44:30
feel like you're able to harness
44:33
something what is manifesting for you.
44:36
Well. Like thank you for
44:38
saying that and seeing that
44:41
does it feel true And
44:43
ah. At one
44:45
point, My. Ex mother in
44:47
law showed me the movie The Secrets. And.
44:50
I was like okay. Oh.
44:53
Ah, Are you know this? I
44:55
do this by nature. Irony: Know that I've
44:57
known as my whole life I knew and
44:59
outside as gonna move to Los Angeles and
45:01
be a successful actors. I knew I had
45:03
a house or the shower. I knew I
45:06
wouldn't worry about money. I knew I'd make
45:08
people happy. I always knew these things. I've
45:10
never been someone to worry about money and
45:12
I think that's a really big thing. Right
45:14
when you start learning about the laws of
45:16
attraction they tell you, don't worry, don't say.
45:18
I wish I had. I want to have
45:20
to that if you replay that in a
45:23
year. What's the message? I wish I had.
45:25
I wish I had. The laws of
45:27
attraction are feeling like you already have
45:29
it, Not just saying it, thinking it's
45:31
feeling like get and then trying to
45:33
parlay that energy into your daily life.
45:35
And. Let's. Pretend it works
45:37
fifty percent of the time, forty percent of
45:40
the time. Better than never.
45:43
With the. People that
45:45
are constantly thinking everything bad happens
45:47
to me. I'm always I'm lucky
45:49
I'm always say they are. And.
45:52
They keep bringing that on themselves and
45:54
I feel bad for people stuck in
45:56
that. I've been stuck in depression. I've
45:58
been stuck in doubt. And
46:00
then this part of me that knows I'm
46:02
here to spread love and light resurfaces. You
46:04
Are Here to do this. When
46:07
I feel insecure, I'll let the strongest
46:09
parts of myself take the wheel. Am
46:12
I gonna get let Harley annulment many
46:14
ways in Ireland? Someone else take that
46:16
for a minute and then that will
46:18
bring me back into my highest version
46:20
of myself that I'm a very big
46:23
believer of. Checking in with yourself. I
46:25
listen to. Meditations, All the
46:27
time that I love, I can send them
46:29
my favorites that put me in a place
46:31
of feeling good and inciting the best things
46:34
that we have. I'm. On
46:36
this planet to you. I really do live
46:38
that way and. I
46:40
I, I just. I. I
46:42
I don't know I I rely on it a
46:45
lot I and it's important to me to keep
46:47
thinking positive and spreading love and light that the
46:49
way her to do. And I
46:51
just I want to clarify because I don't think you
46:54
as I don't think this is what you. Meant. But
46:56
I just want to clarify the notion is
46:58
not that. People.
47:00
I mean, I guess there's some
47:02
element of. You. Know. You.
47:06
Know what are we attracting right? what
47:08
are we creating? But I think also
47:10
you know for people who who are
47:13
struggling raid with. Depressive things like that.
47:15
The notion is not. You did this to
47:17
yourself as a lovely not I have a
47:19
really big problem. I have a big problem
47:21
with that. I am. I don't First of
47:23
all, everyone. not everyone knows everything. You could
47:25
sit with someone who's like I speak the
47:28
dose that I know. this happens when you
47:30
die and they could still be full of
47:32
poop. or that's their experience or whatever it
47:34
is. Nobody here on this planet right now
47:36
knows everything. We're here to learn. Nobody knows.
47:39
What? Happens when you die or how whether
47:41
or not the laws of the trucks and
47:43
work or whatever. And there are a lot
47:45
of people putting out videos that I think
47:47
are very destructive. I do not think you
47:49
invite bad things. I think that should be
47:51
removed from that information. I don't think you
47:54
asked for your husband to have an affair.
47:56
I don't think you ask for your kid
47:58
to have a disease. I don't. The dog
48:00
that amazed to is as it are
48:02
no downtime that people in the world
48:04
and I do think sometimes people that
48:06
are like obsessively believing in whatever video
48:08
they seem that oh I must have
48:11
brought the bad on to myself know
48:13
you did not bring balance yourself. I
48:15
do believe that positive thoughts have more
48:17
power and maybe you could speak to
48:19
this because they say they scientifically tested
48:21
this that positive thing positive thinking seems
48:23
to bring more energy and I just
48:25
think that. If you
48:27
don't believe in something bigger, if you don't
48:30
believe that you can try to make yourself
48:32
better, it is harder to manifest good things.
48:34
But I don't think anyone should feel like
48:36
they brought on a bad situation unless you
48:38
physically did something bad. But I just I
48:41
don't believe that. No, I don't know what
48:43
that is. I, I don't understand it, and
48:45
it's heartbreaking to see someone you love suffer,
48:47
but I don't think they brought it upon
48:49
themselves, so that makes sense. And we know
48:52
that the brain just has have a better
48:54
capacity for resilience. When. It is
48:56
geared towards positive. Thinking mean that's
48:58
literally. What you know it's science is
49:00
proving that's consistent with what a lot
49:02
of people. Like you intuitively new
49:04
rights. When you say there's more
49:07
power to positive thinking, it's because
49:09
it causes the ability for expansion
49:11
for more synaptic connections, Likes for
49:13
your brain to literally access more,
49:16
and in particular, to access more
49:18
of the sort of chemistry that
49:20
then perpetuates more positivity. Another
49:22
way of saying that, but I think it's a very good. Clarification.
49:27
Is when we say resilience. What we're
49:29
saying is like you have your problem
49:31
solving abilities. Right And right.
49:33
If you're suffering and you know that
49:35
side of you exists. And. I have
49:37
suffered. Not to say everything's been beautiful
49:39
for me has been very hard times.
49:41
I've had moments where I get why
49:43
people want to end things. I've been
49:45
stuck in cycles of sadness, depression, but
49:47
I think if you have that piece
49:49
of you to hold on, I want
49:51
to get back to that feeling. that
49:53
person that mental state. I think it's
49:55
helpful to anchor yourself in the best
49:57
case scenario rather than the worst case.
50:00
Right when you will feel well and
50:02
you let a web web md you're
50:04
dying of everything like automatically go to
50:06
the worst case scenario if you try
50:08
to every day automatically Every day though
50:10
did the best case scenario. I think
50:12
slowly you can pull yourself from those
50:14
things. I feel very fortunate that I
50:16
had a strong base. To. To
50:18
pull myself to to get myself out
50:21
of cards situations. though
50:23
he met his arguments on it and. What?
50:25
Yes, I want it. and I think it's
50:28
important to clarify the science of. Manifesting.
50:31
Or at least part of it. You. Know
50:33
what does it mean to actually put good into
50:35
the world? And good Will come back as. A.
50:38
I. I saw the secret. I saw
50:40
many of these teachers and some of it
50:42
I think is botched. As you said, you know.
50:45
That. We bring things on ourselves but
50:47
what we know and and in other
50:49
experts at have come on the show.
50:51
For example Susan David She talks about
50:54
how when we are facing. Distress.
50:57
We. Have cognitive narrowly. Meaning.
51:00
That we default to the
51:02
most uptight, constricted parts of
51:04
ourselves. It's very hard to
51:06
find. Solutions. In that
51:08
space, we have a lot more black
51:10
and white thinking vs. when mine is
51:12
talking about resilience, what resilience means is
51:14
actually having a lot more cognitive flexibility
51:16
that allows us to see it's not
51:18
this or that it may be somewhere
51:20
in between and that in between might
51:22
be the solution to like for example,
51:24
or and I'm just you know, I
51:27
don't know what happens for you and
51:29
a moment where you find a character
51:31
or you find a solution. But for
51:33
example, if you were in the booze
51:35
and you saw something like the overweight
51:37
a character. And you just said stop.
51:39
You. Wouldn't have the resources to find
51:42
the solution vs if you are.
51:44
Channeling that part of yourself that knows
51:47
there are resources that knows that you
51:49
could say something, that Earth holds the
51:51
possibility of a solution. Therefore, you manifest
51:53
a solution because you are bringing more
51:55
of yourself. You are bringing that energy
51:58
to be available for the city. Rio
52:00
and you're able to interact and. Find.
52:02
A solution. Yeah. I
52:04
think that's true. Awesome I am. I meant
52:06
to. Yes, Yes, that's true
52:09
to you To just that's true. Jonathan
52:11
just said you only live in in
52:13
aliens is chasing alliance. You also give
52:15
you a yes that's true I'm because
52:18
I forgot says earlier visualizing visual. Ah.
52:20
A visual representation of the character and I
52:22
have an audition. I and I am. I
52:25
do all my additions right here. I'm in
52:27
Melbourne City right now. I'll put the character
52:29
or side by side and look back and
52:31
forth. And we do get physical in the
52:33
booth. We do have a physical thing that
52:35
happens and so Jonathan back to your point.
52:37
when you visualize yourself out of a situation
52:40
I see, I do sometimes see those characters.
52:42
I do have a physical thing that happens
52:44
to me that can help me. And
52:47
I'm I'm lucky that that part of me
52:49
is so strong. And. Lucky. I
52:52
must say to this is what I'm saying
52:54
but I'm going to be this person just
52:56
for the sake of argument that like that's
52:58
naive and like lucky you like you were
53:00
gifted with this positivity and like I what
53:02
if I was in and what if my
53:04
chemistry is like no no holes saddled with
53:06
it's viral like think you there are not
53:09
a way out It's hard work I think
53:11
you can work on it, will will enter
53:13
had we know right we know that medication
53:15
is not the only way to work on
53:17
it which used to be what Doctor Soldier
53:19
like oh you're not feeling like Harrys The.
53:21
They were gonna give you this pill
53:24
to make more thera hormones race assimilate
53:26
into are you married so marketing idea
53:28
no other when I saw thought of
53:30
what we're now learning and a lot
53:32
of was. A lot of what jonathan
53:34
than I do try and talk about and emphasize. On
53:37
this podcast is there are ways to
53:39
get outside of yourself. And. It doesn't
53:41
just have to be with pharmaceuticals and
53:43
it also doesn't just have to be
53:45
with Zilla. I have been like you
53:47
live in L a of micro dosing
53:49
that's why everyone's and as a good
53:51
mood a surplus as a scene of
53:53
the notion that meditation that you know
53:55
law of attraction stuff or you know
53:57
I was just have been revisiting. the
53:59
emotional free impact me a great. Even
54:01
though I'm in a hard place I'm
54:03
still loved by something bigger than all
54:05
of this and I'm like saying it's
54:07
a myself, I'm feeling like a ridiculous
54:09
person rights but. Those are ways
54:11
that we don't necessarily need to just
54:13
turn to a pharmaceutical or turned to
54:16
sell us. I been and be like
54:18
wasn't I'm all better but how can
54:20
I will create my own little men
54:22
as a citizen circle in my own
54:24
brain and I think like you know
54:26
this, I think it's a daily practice
54:28
Just like if you wanna dance you're
54:30
probably going to be dancing our the
54:33
if you wanna be fed you're gonna
54:35
work out every day and all of
54:37
your muscles and all of your body
54:39
parts need some kind of attention. Every
54:41
day. And I do think if you're just
54:43
like and so did today not tomorrow Network
54:45
on and everything ceremonies are Laurie Day and
54:48
not work on bringing yourself to a different
54:50
place. It makes a difference. I think it's
54:52
and for me even for me, it's daily
54:54
work to put myself in a good had
54:56
space. If I see something sad, if something
54:58
bad happens, I have to work on it.
55:00
I have to put on one of my
55:02
meditations. It's not just like hey, let's feel
55:05
good and everything's wonderful. I think it's work
55:07
just like. like I said, if you were
55:09
be a singer you take singing lessons. Are
55:11
gonna work out your voice every day. It's
55:13
like another piece of you that has to
55:15
be worked on everyday. Disagree. Point. To.
55:17
A winner's Circle Back to a word
55:19
that you use That A That struck
55:22
me. you use the word conduit. When.
55:24
Describing. Receiving:
55:28
These characters are are almost you didn't
55:30
use the word settling for that's what
55:32
I. Conjure when
55:34
you use the word, but you were a
55:36
conduit. To
55:40
have a sense of being plugged
55:42
into the universe do have a
55:44
sense of that. These characters exist
55:46
in a Rick Rubin talks about
55:48
the artist being a downloading and
55:50
having the workers at you know
55:52
fine tuning ones and tonight to
55:54
receive information and then. Translated:
55:57
I'm wondering if you could. Have.
55:59
That. Like you. I mean our
56:01
yes, Like. You guys are gonna
56:03
let her go. She's crazy. Yeah,
56:06
oh no, he's out of service.
56:08
as I know that we believe
56:10
this, We're just trying to see
56:12
if you do. Heck yes. Had.
56:14
Yes. I. Am tuned in. Those are my
56:16
people up in the stars. After this I get
56:19
to go back to my star planet and share
56:21
everything I learned. Weird. As you when
56:23
did you realize that this suit like is the
56:25
something that your parents instilled in you or did
56:27
you just always feel like you are one with
56:30
the universe? No way they didn't need drown an
56:32
hour Now they didn't That was not part of
56:34
the on. The thing that I had that was
56:36
important for who I am from my children from
56:38
my parents was unconditional love and support right? We
56:41
all know the person that wanted to be reformer,
56:43
the like know you're gonna be a doctor like
56:45
your dad and their wells the that now. So
56:47
I always had that support and that love and
56:49
ah but they did not teach me about. The
56:52
Laws of Attraction. Although my mom was super
56:55
magic, my mom's twin who was like a
56:57
second mom to me was also super magic
56:59
and we know I will a magic. Ah
57:01
well, we did. Ah, Ah
57:04
my. My mom's twin liked a lot
57:06
of ah sort of. Week
57:08
in like ah. Either,
57:11
not so much ceremony. although a
57:13
lot of the Jewish ceremony felt
57:15
to me like battling. My favorite
57:17
holiday has always been Passover because
57:19
I love all the little things
57:21
that you do. I like anything
57:23
and in any religion that brings
57:25
people together and you do ritual
57:27
together. I love that we let
57:29
the candles every Friday night. we'd
57:31
say prayers together on there was
57:33
a summer when I was ten
57:35
hours. Literally. Woke up
57:37
one day when outside and broke out
57:39
into rash and my entire body. And
57:42
we went to the doctor and I was
57:44
allergic to the sun. I
57:46
was allergic to the sun at ten. Couldn't.
57:50
Play with my friends at school. I was a
57:52
kid sitting under a tree while I must have
57:54
a good time and my mom came see. My.
57:57
Mom told me this later that she came
57:59
into my room one night and said I'm
58:01
your mom and I have mommy magic and
58:03
tomorrow you're going to wake up and not
58:05
be allergic to the sun And I wasn't
58:07
why it's. So.
58:09
He believed in magic, but I don't know
58:11
that it was portrayed to me as a
58:14
laws of attraction or. That. Things that
58:16
she does he was were Russia and. She's. Russian,
58:18
Jewish and a deathly believed in
58:20
were Hungarian. And there's witches Again,
58:22
like there's there's amazing bizarro stories
58:24
for food much all the hunger
58:26
and women. the yeah, I. Love
58:29
reading like ancient Jewish wiccan stuff too.
58:31
like very fascinating and like magic and
58:33
kabbalah and I find it very fascinating.
58:36
but I'm definitely a believer and is
58:38
you experience that era. You have two
58:40
sons who I knew and they were
58:43
little over there Now men did you
58:45
experience any of that kind of in.
58:48
Intuitive stuff when Motown? I mean I
58:50
think probably she was more magical in
58:52
some ways. But ah, me and my
58:54
boys do a lot of magic stuff
58:56
together. They're very magic like we all
58:58
like. I have these in my studio
59:00
at all times and I'm like I'm
59:02
going to do Raven that I'm going
59:04
to play with the purple dress. Simple
59:06
things I like. I like things and
59:08
traditions and ritual. I like, I like
59:10
it. I'll I'm not gonna play though.
59:13
Put a person someone. but I like
59:15
I like guy. And know I
59:17
like that. Seth I'm a kid like that stuff. Has.
59:19
My kids think I'm bat shit. Crazy.
59:23
At the i don't crystals everywhere and
59:25
I'm like a hold This you're feeling
59:27
agitated. Hold this Now that's crazy. a
59:30
glimmer father. but no I think that's
59:32
I think that's wonderful that that you
59:34
are able to access that. But I
59:36
absolutely did feel. Separate
59:39
from my ex husband's I'm
59:41
I Absolutely so I'm a
59:43
different sense of connection to
59:45
the universe once. Those Humans.
59:48
Exited my body Meanings: oh
59:50
I grew this person. They
59:52
experienced everything I experienced and
59:54
also everything. My mother experience because
59:57
that's when the eggs that made them
59:59
were actually. Born within my mom's.
1:00:01
Belly which I guess that's the story
1:00:03
you get. all of it's A but
1:00:06
I definitely felt. I mean to
1:00:08
to put. It plainly I felt
1:00:10
night. It was a magical experience.
1:00:13
To. Grow a human in my
1:00:15
body. It was on me
1:00:17
outside like that. Miraculous.
1:00:20
He. Felt very magic divine to me.
1:00:23
Super magical. Also, I
1:00:25
had many experiences that made me no.
1:00:27
Magic was real growing up and as
1:00:29
an adult my dad was obsessed with World
1:00:31
War Two. He was a child during
1:00:33
World war Two and he had on
1:00:35
in our basement a World War Two museum
1:00:37
set up that people would and see
1:00:39
and I have it now. I'm just trying
1:00:42
to figure out what to do an
1:00:44
exit on a just sell it off but
1:00:46
he has like sign Hitler documents and
1:00:48
over one hundred miles and postcards and
1:00:50
things from the holocaust and he had a
1:00:52
school room set up. He has. Early
1:00:54
edition of every comic and magazine and it
1:00:57
was very fascinating and at one time when
1:00:59
as zealand quite rebellious and didn't have my
1:01:01
own room I decided to sleep and stairs
1:01:03
even all that. Stuff. Was right there
1:01:05
and I got out of the shower
1:01:07
and I was standing naked for a
1:01:09
second and I hear sorry can't whistle
1:01:11
the one thing this voice bit but
1:01:13
I heard like my god you know
1:01:15
tackle with a capital and there is
1:01:17
no windows in his room. It's regarding
1:01:19
creepy and it kept doing it. I
1:01:21
read of London don't do that again.
1:01:25
I've I've long enough for sure. And
1:01:27
also since my mom passed like her,
1:01:29
let me know she's here. happened. Ah,
1:01:31
that's when I'm having a hard day.
1:01:33
My mom went by Lucy. She was born
1:01:35
the land but she went by the seats so
1:01:37
that's my like magic name as I see that
1:01:39
anywhere. I'll just ask for it. It'll
1:01:41
show up. I'm. Sheila I was I would ask
1:01:43
for the other day as a table read for
1:01:45
really cool movie really cool I am movies and
1:01:47
the girl was telling a story that her car
1:01:50
had been stolen and she's like there goes Lucy
1:01:52
down the street for car with named lucy and
1:01:54
then there's a lucy in the scrapped or like
1:01:56
okay thanks mom thinks are taken in. Yeah.
1:01:59
I'm a pretty. The magic believe are so like we're
1:02:01
on the same side with. So.
1:02:04
You. Believe in. Magic.
1:02:07
And. Some.
1:02:10
Things that. We don't
1:02:12
infinite crazy, but. What?
1:02:14
About the early will talk about angels
1:02:16
like being protected by angels. That is
1:02:19
saying. That is in your
1:02:21
wheelhouse. First. Of all. When
1:02:23
my mom died. I
1:02:26
was at her house and Toronto for the
1:02:28
funeral. I had a two month old Aden
1:02:30
in my hand and two and half year
1:02:32
old for me and. Ah,
1:02:34
My mom had a. What? They call them
1:02:37
many heart attack. Two weeks before she died and
1:02:39
I had a brand new baby we got maybe
1:02:41
and she said i know you know what this
1:02:43
means you don't need to com. And.
1:02:46
I was like how can I not com like what if governments
1:02:48
you that you had a week old baby don't need to com
1:02:50
and a week later she was dead. And
1:02:53
I was so heartbroken I was like screaming at
1:02:56
her why you tell me not to com and
1:02:58
I kept feeling like she was saying it wasn't
1:03:00
my time. I didn't know it was my time.
1:03:02
I don't know in my time and on my
1:03:04
ex had left early. it was just me and
1:03:07
the kids in her bedroom. And
1:03:09
my mom had one of those old
1:03:11
computers with the printers with a perforated
1:03:13
pages animals and ah, my son had
1:03:15
been playing with it. And when that
1:03:18
morning that we left the paper, the
1:03:20
paper from that printer was on the
1:03:22
floor with a pen beside it. And
1:03:24
there were two words on that piece
1:03:26
of paper and it is undeniably my
1:03:29
mother's penmanship. And it said Time Tara.
1:03:32
And I took it to mean two things.
1:03:34
One is she really didn't know was her
1:03:36
time and to is that time is so
1:03:38
precious on this planet so valuable you have
1:03:41
to laws every minute moment you can. You
1:03:43
have to live every moment. You can tell
1:03:45
people that you love them like it hit
1:03:47
me a very profound way and that was
1:03:49
the first appearance of her about. I've had
1:03:52
many from her so I think someone that
1:03:54
you feel very kindred to can com but
1:03:56
I also do believe in being that we
1:03:58
don't know that are helping. Many.
1:04:00
Of them aren't human arm you can meet
1:04:03
them in meditation. I I've met a few
1:04:05
and I think I think when you keep
1:04:07
putting out love into the world we're not
1:04:09
perfect world and make mistakes as or here
1:04:11
to do were learning but when you keep
1:04:13
trying to be good and put out there
1:04:15
in the world I think you get rewarded
1:04:18
with. Little. Nudges a little help from
1:04:20
your angels that are doing the best they can.
1:04:22
The help guide you. Learn everything you can.
1:04:24
Why you're here. That's beautifully
1:04:26
said. That's. Really beautifully said.
1:04:29
I. Wanted to have open up. I'm in
1:04:31
since we're talking about your mom. I'm. Jonathan
1:04:35
has has spoken on this podcast
1:04:37
pretty openly about his brother who
1:04:39
had a traumatic brain injury when
1:04:41
he was seventeen and Jonathan was
1:04:43
fourteen. And.
1:04:46
Daniels, a very, very special person, very
1:04:48
special part of our life and and
1:04:50
Johnson's wife and obviously. His entire family and
1:04:52
but it's something that when when he talks
1:04:54
about it, we get a lot of really
1:04:57
interesting comments and so am I. Wondered if
1:04:59
you might talk a little bit. About:
1:05:01
I'm your sister About that.
1:05:03
It's like. To advocate for someone
1:05:05
who's special? I'm an attorney. Oh
1:05:07
Jonathan, Do you wanna add anything
1:05:10
else to the. To.
1:05:12
The the sibling conversation. The
1:05:15
or for for me. I was younger
1:05:17
brother and when he had his accident
1:05:19
he was extremely disabled here to learn
1:05:22
to walk, talk recognize family again. The
1:05:24
prognosis for him was that you would
1:05:26
be a vegetable his whole life and
1:05:28
to slowly have fought against that and
1:05:30
relearned all of the things that I
1:05:32
just mentioned. But one of the hardest
1:05:34
parts was. As. He
1:05:36
became two and a half issue
1:05:39
years post injury. He tried to
1:05:41
go out in the world and
1:05:43
continue to. Be. A.
1:05:46
Young adult and at by that time I
1:05:48
sort of caught up. In
1:05:50
terms of what I was going through I
1:05:52
was you know in high school and gonna
1:05:54
parties and meeting people and then sometimes my
1:05:57
brother would be there and you know he
1:05:59
was very socially. Ah well
1:06:01
on an eclipse. Basically. I
1:06:03
people couldn't understand him. He had a very
1:06:05
intense speech impediment. He had physical disability so
1:06:07
you could see that he was different and
1:06:09
you know as he would try to connect
1:06:12
I would feel very protective of him. He.
1:06:15
Also had no filters based on his
1:06:17
head injury so you know he sees
1:06:19
hit on every woman said very inappropriate
1:06:21
things but also they couldn't understand him
1:06:23
because of the speech impediment but I
1:06:25
knew exactly what he was and. He.
1:06:28
Is clear now when he tells me he doesn't
1:06:30
like what I'm wearing a hat. my hair has
1:06:32
a faceless like. And here you
1:06:34
know he's extremely extroverted with no filters
1:06:36
and and is very shy, reserved, very
1:06:39
cautious, and so I'm being placed the
1:06:41
i'm mortified a lot of the time
1:06:43
ago, But I'm also very protective of
1:06:45
him and trying to. Come
1:06:48
and make sure he doesn't piss anyone off.
1:06:50
Make sure that the woman who sitting on
1:06:52
doesn't have a boyfriend who was said destroys
1:06:54
our. It's it's. it's. It's
1:06:57
it's. so I. I.
1:07:00
Know I know what it's like to sort
1:07:02
of have someone that you're looking out for
1:07:04
a lot and feeling that agree, Need that
1:07:07
extra support? And what's
1:07:09
that at? I think when you have
1:07:11
someone like that and many people do,
1:07:13
it gives you an empathy for it.
1:07:15
may when I see as a kid
1:07:17
it upon who obviously struggles in social
1:07:19
situations and you see them look on
1:07:21
their mom spaces that they're so proud
1:07:23
of them that they're speaking or there's
1:07:25
some sorry that they're doing this or
1:07:27
whatever. You know what that mom's gone
1:07:29
through that dad thought through siblings than
1:07:31
three and to make sure this very
1:07:33
special being is protected, not bullied and
1:07:35
I'm not getting himself in trouble. Like
1:07:37
you said, sometimes. I say things that
1:07:40
are awesome he now and I
1:07:42
think it gives us an empathy
1:07:44
for people were people who don't
1:07:46
grow up with it, don't have
1:07:48
that vase understanding of it and
1:07:50
can be off. Play or say
1:07:52
something mean that then makes that person's heart
1:07:54
hurt and I think that's what we want
1:07:56
to protect at all costs. Since my mom
1:07:59
died, my son. Completely agoraphobia Will not
1:08:01
leave the house so social interaction is not
1:08:03
that important in terms of in the outer
1:08:05
world. although she does like to be on
1:08:08
mine a lot on if it were up
1:08:10
to me she'd be in my house and
1:08:12
a guest house. You come with me all
1:08:14
Kansas is or people's he loves those people
1:08:17
have the same her and get like let
1:08:19
her meet her favorite Star Trek person or
1:08:21
whatever. I pay for
1:08:24
her whole life. I help her every single
1:08:26
day. She does not want to leave Toronto
1:08:28
so I got her a place there. And
1:08:30
I'll send her food everyday and I
1:08:32
make her do yoga with me on
1:08:34
Zoom every day and I try to
1:08:36
make her feel special. Have seen beautiful
1:08:38
as much as I can become the
1:08:40
world's cruel. World. Crow parents are
1:08:43
cruel. Children a cruel aren't people the
1:08:45
internet for hook. Or crook. Cellular.
1:08:47
Protect them So I get that same. In
1:08:50
our world is really strange where you
1:08:52
know it's so easy to just. Not
1:08:55
have a place. right? And
1:08:57
that's true for people who have on.
1:09:00
Any kind of. Thing.
1:09:02
That makes them different from someone else as
1:09:04
well as. A list Celebrities. I'm
1:09:07
so many friends that have. Ah,
1:09:10
Woody. Call that thing imposter syndrome
1:09:12
and I'm like your own you,
1:09:14
well, monsters. I think you're this.
1:09:17
Yet. But we still get it and
1:09:19
everybody everybody. I think that's the thing
1:09:22
to that A when people are attacking
1:09:24
celebrities online especially x twitter that date
1:09:26
we are not people and have emotions
1:09:28
and feel bad and feel sad Yes
1:09:30
we do. We are people that are
1:09:32
successful in this line of work and
1:09:35
it hurts our heart is you say
1:09:37
something mean So I think that those
1:09:39
for people who aren't well equipped to
1:09:41
handle as well as. Someone. Who's
1:09:43
wildly successful I think we all struggle with
1:09:45
Do we belong? Do we deserve this spot?
1:09:48
I'm Sylvia Good. Segue to six and
1:09:50
of zip into social media. You know
1:09:52
something that didn't exist when you when
1:09:54
I started auditioning of being you know
1:09:56
being of a character on a voiceover.
1:09:59
So with us. The anonymous way to
1:10:01
actually get work and make money. And
1:10:03
you know, I think. I don't wanna speak
1:10:05
for you but but I know for me there were
1:10:07
times when sat was. Really? My income you
1:10:09
know was was voice over stuff and there
1:10:11
were a me at that point. We thought
1:10:14
there were so many animated shows before there
1:10:16
were six thousand network but still there felt
1:10:18
that felt like there were more shows that
1:10:20
you could do voice overs for. Than you
1:10:22
know, be cast and and especially in I
1:10:24
I talk a lot about. What?
1:10:26
It was like being an actor in the eighties. Like if
1:10:28
you didn't have like blond hair, blue
1:10:30
eyes and very tiny features and look
1:10:33
like generic. Whatever. All American we're supposed. To
1:10:35
look like it was harder to get role
1:10:37
like that was the most of the rolls
1:10:39
worse. I like to say I grew up
1:10:41
watching television of like attractive people hooking up
1:10:43
with each other like my attractive people have
1:10:45
sex and different permutations with a lot of
1:10:47
the shows a voiceover work with this like
1:10:49
really safe haven arm and it was a
1:10:51
place where you know kids would know that
1:10:53
you were doing it or you know some
1:10:55
adults would be like on my kid likes
1:10:57
to watch that's but there was no real
1:10:59
like samer notoriety cut to. This.
1:11:02
Last. You know, I don't know.
1:11:04
It's sweaty years or so. I mean, I think
1:11:06
when I hadn't my first kid, I didn't even
1:11:08
have a smartphone. I think when I
1:11:10
had Fred my second one, I didn't
1:11:12
even have a smartphone when he was
1:11:14
born. So in the last you know,
1:11:17
fifteen twenty years your role has been
1:11:19
not just as an actress and a
1:11:21
voiceover you know, performer but you've become
1:11:23
you know a social media presence for
1:11:25
for publicity for all of these shows
1:11:28
that opens you up to have allowed
1:11:30
people knowing what you look like and
1:11:32
I would imagine it also opens you
1:11:34
up to a lot of ridiculous. Has
1:11:36
some social media reject? Ominous? Yeah, I'm.
1:11:39
I'm kinda curious. Like is this a double
1:11:41
edged sword? Yeah, you feel like same as
1:11:43
you manage your own stuff. Like I would
1:11:45
imagine, there's a lot of creepy. I'm gonna
1:11:47
say creepy dude because it's an expression. I'm
1:11:50
sure there's creepy ladies as well, but what
1:11:52
is that kind of attention like? How does
1:11:54
it change how you sort of conduct yourself.
1:11:57
To that question And you're So
1:11:59
right. Since the internet
1:12:01
people going oh who's the with of
1:12:03
this and then they know what they
1:12:05
look like and so yes I get
1:12:07
recognized in my real life not as
1:12:09
much as someone who does primarily on
1:12:11
camera but I do in it's usually
1:12:13
very sweet. Most of my then they're
1:12:15
very sweet and sometimes like there's you
1:12:17
know. I'm. Good.
1:12:20
Things that happen to you like I was
1:12:22
going a little fast you a job in
1:12:24
the police officer pulled me over and is
1:12:26
to the really big power puff girls and
1:12:28
is like I can give it a ticket
1:12:30
to a power puff girls I'm I will
1:12:32
I do have to say that of like
1:12:34
us world now now he knew who I
1:12:36
was I'd be like hey in case you
1:12:38
didn't know you happen to have children who
1:12:40
are of fans have a television so that
1:12:42
I'm only thing I haven't done that in
1:12:44
the scenario but ah was at the Apple
1:12:46
Store in New York. ah maybe six months
1:12:48
ago I had dropped my phone. Under the seat
1:12:50
and they know you know he they tell you
1:12:52
don't move your seat I moved my see it
1:12:54
was trust and I went in and they're like
1:12:57
we don't have an appointment with my like ah
1:12:59
another girl goes. Your
1:13:02
Miss Minutes. We cannot leave
1:13:04
miss minutes without a phone. You're going to
1:13:07
go upstairs to this other area and gets
1:13:09
taken care of so some. Others especially
1:13:11
around you know both times.
1:13:14
It's I mean it isn't really was is
1:13:16
like away from everyone else so they can
1:13:18
say that doesn't remember the sometimes it's nice.
1:13:21
Am I haven't had too
1:13:23
many terrible experiences in person
1:13:25
sometimes guys. Like. We talked
1:13:27
about get weird on but I have people
1:13:30
around me to help me. Ah I'm. The
1:13:33
weirdest was a guy who tried to adapt
1:13:35
themselves that light able. ah that was the
1:13:37
take the way he tried to touch himself
1:13:39
at my table so that was. A
1:13:42
certain part of themselves. Yeah, You.
1:13:46
Mean he came up the owners like because I'm looking
1:13:48
at you can be the that's where the mm. Yes,
1:13:53
a cop. Was
1:13:55
it the sound of your voice nowadays? In Out. Or
1:13:58
it was just. The. Did he? That you
1:14:00
were you are was like easier for
1:14:02
you. like me who is in my
1:14:04
line. he was a very large teenage
1:14:06
human ah with a dad that was
1:14:08
already holding him in place. He was
1:14:11
an unsteady human and he asked me
1:14:13
to read a character that he granted.
1:14:15
So I read it and he. Has
1:14:18
his pants and started to confess
1:14:20
himself and his dad like. And
1:14:26
there was. Like I mean
1:14:28
that happens to be at the supermarket. But I
1:14:30
did. my second, an avid Zero like that.
1:14:33
Yeah. So yeah so anyway that
1:14:35
like the worst but normally in
1:14:37
person people are kind and awesome
1:14:39
and I think I think animations
1:14:41
and or the sweetest in the
1:14:43
world. I love them social media.
1:14:45
I love to connect with them
1:14:47
in that way. I have spoken
1:14:49
to depressed people. I'm not lying
1:14:51
with guns in their mouth. I
1:14:53
like to help people. I like
1:14:55
to raise money. I raised millions
1:14:57
of dollars on Twitter for Kids
1:14:59
with cancer, various animal rescues someone
1:15:02
in need. I like helping. People:
1:15:04
I like promoting shows that I'm
1:15:06
on. I like making jokes. I
1:15:08
like meeting people feel good. I
1:15:10
like that element. I do not
1:15:12
like the bullying and I think
1:15:14
X is the worst. I
1:15:16
think of all the social media platforms,
1:15:18
I mean for that kind of conversation.
1:15:20
not that it's the worst platform. Yeah,
1:15:22
I think Twitter X is by far
1:15:25
the most bullying rampant says hey it's
1:15:27
free speech the we can tell you
1:15:29
to die bitch if we want to
1:15:31
place. I find it very hard
1:15:33
on my heart. of all the
1:15:35
of all the places and I just
1:15:37
wish I don't know why everybody can't
1:15:39
be trying to to each other. I
1:15:41
don't understand this piece but I do
1:15:43
know that there are a lot of
1:15:45
mentally disturbed people on these platforms. There
1:15:47
was a girl that told me I
1:15:49
should have been aborted during the original
1:15:51
Trump stuff that was going i as
1:15:53
very vocal arm and. Like put out
1:15:55
the Swede that I should have been aborted. All
1:15:57
my fans went after her and I was. Klein
1:16:00
and three very frail girl came
1:16:02
up to me. I mean lovably
1:16:04
One of them had cerebral palsy.
1:16:06
That's the level I'm talking about.
1:16:08
They were Not. Solid.
1:16:11
Confident humans and this growth and strong
1:16:13
your fans are really means My friend
1:16:15
and the girl with this guy was
1:16:17
like oh my God I'm arguing with
1:16:19
you. My army of fans are going
1:16:21
after you. I don't want that. I
1:16:24
don't want anyone arguing with you. And
1:16:26
so you have to be very careful
1:16:29
when you engage because know same people
1:16:31
don't want to go on the internet
1:16:33
and ruins. That's
1:16:35
not what seen people do. So.
1:16:38
Let's. Have a minute Partly
1:16:40
this into of. You. Know something
1:16:42
that isn't a delegate conversation that shouldn't
1:16:44
be. On. The
1:16:47
Television Institute. Posted.
1:16:50
A very interesting discussion of something
1:16:52
that recently happened to you. and
1:16:54
I'm they. They post the Oxford
1:16:57
Dictionary definition of islam a phobia
1:16:59
which is the dislike or unfair
1:17:01
treatment of islam or muslims. And
1:17:04
the reason that they felt
1:17:06
the need to define Islam
1:17:09
a phobia is that you
1:17:11
were. Accused of going on
1:17:13
and. Islam. Of phobic
1:17:15
spins on twitter acts. On.
1:17:20
For statements that objectively speaking
1:17:22
had nothing to do. With
1:17:24
Islam or Muslim People
1:17:26
for Fum you were
1:17:28
responding to the terrorist
1:17:30
organization. Some us I'm.
1:17:33
And you were not
1:17:35
just. Let. Go
1:17:38
of sired I hit. use the
1:17:40
word, I don't know why. So
1:17:42
afraid to say you were fired
1:17:44
from a job that also was
1:17:47
part of a is it of
1:17:49
Kickstarter tix. Take Kickstarter A kickstarter
1:17:51
that essentially utilize your power in
1:17:53
the industry to sell a project
1:17:56
and you were released with. Them
1:17:58
making a statement. it was Bandit
1:18:00
Mill Animation saying this was not
1:18:03
a difficult decision. They. Felt
1:18:05
very very secure and when I
1:18:07
looked through a variety of your
1:18:09
tweets I'm what I saw as
1:18:12
they you were. Praying. For
1:18:14
peace. You. Were I'm
1:18:16
expressing concern with all
1:18:18
suffering. That. Occurred a lot of
1:18:20
people don't know about half of the remaining.
1:18:23
Survivors. That
1:18:25
we estimate are are alive of
1:18:27
the hostages are actually I'm from
1:18:30
Thailand, their from Nepal. Some hold
1:18:32
I believe Mexican and French citizenship.
1:18:35
So there's a. Lot of people are
1:18:37
being held that you expressed. Concern
1:18:40
for I'm. The.
1:18:43
I'm. You
1:18:45
the notion that. That. Standing
1:18:47
with. Israel. Which
1:18:50
was in a one of the hash tags that
1:18:52
many of us were using. The notion that that
1:18:54
was interpreted as as lama phobic and as an
1:18:56
extension had you lose a job is. Pretty.
1:18:58
Astounding and I wonder.
1:19:02
Yeah. I wonder sort of what that feels
1:19:04
like also to be comfortable being open about
1:19:06
it. To say I'm a person who's a
1:19:08
humanitarian. Who prays for peace? Who is. Devastated
1:19:11
at the suffering that sets the people
1:19:14
of Gaza are experiencing. I'm and also
1:19:16
at the same time to be accused
1:19:18
of islam a phobia which is a
1:19:20
horrendous thing to be accused of because
1:19:22
it is horrendous to hate muslims or
1:19:24
Islam. Yeah I wonder
1:19:26
if you. If if you, i'm
1:19:29
not asking you to defend yourself, I don't think you
1:19:31
need to defend yourself, but I wonder if you can
1:19:33
speak to? It's in terms of the larger context of
1:19:35
what happens. In in the Forums of
1:19:37
social media. This
1:19:39
is why Twitter x is
1:19:42
dangerous. These interpretations
1:19:44
and things that people run with and
1:19:46
then get people to run with and
1:19:48
then press runs with. That
1:19:51
can be devastating. So I'm gonna
1:19:53
go back and say how this
1:19:55
happened. Like I say, I like
1:19:58
helping people and this guy. The
1:20:00
aim to me on twitter sent me
1:20:02
a Dm and said hey we're doing
1:20:04
a kickstarter for a pilot. I'm such
1:20:06
a big fan. I'd love to have
1:20:08
you played this character and I I
1:20:10
don't typically do things from fans could.
1:20:12
I don't know who these people are
1:20:14
but he was very sweet and showed
1:20:16
me some of the arts and I
1:20:18
recognize that he was working with some
1:20:20
people who did have some a good
1:20:22
experience in the business and then. He.
1:20:24
Told me with the union and I said i
1:20:27
really appreciate this I wish you all the best
1:20:29
but I cannot do a non union projects and
1:20:31
he came back to me like the teams willing
1:20:33
to go union to have you. And
1:20:35
we had a dialogue. We had a. Online
1:20:38
friendship going as a great I hook
1:20:40
him up with my age and arguably
1:20:42
the biggest animation agent in the world.
1:20:45
Spends half a day helping this kid
1:20:47
learn about Sag how to get a
1:20:49
ah low budget Screen Actors Guild contract.
1:20:52
All these things. It was a very
1:20:54
collaborative process. I do the job for
1:20:56
less than I would do something else
1:20:59
or like get your that Sag less
1:21:01
rate whatever they call that. I'm. I
1:21:04
go on their kickstarter. I help them
1:21:06
raise my i'm All in. October
1:21:09
Seventh happens. October
1:21:12
Seventh. And. This fight.
1:21:14
Is. Something. Very important to me
1:21:16
that I've been in for a very long time.
1:21:18
When I was a kid, there was a swastika.
1:21:21
Sprayed. On our Synagogue that my mom was
1:21:23
therefore that my dad was my grandfather was a
1:21:25
kid was the A. Can't
1:21:27
My parents My mom and her mom ran
1:21:30
the catering business with our synagogue and it's
1:21:32
had died you pigs and when I was
1:21:34
sixteen I went on the marks of the
1:21:36
living. We had stone throwing stones thrown out
1:21:38
of us. We had a soft swastika thrown
1:21:41
are drawn on our bus when we're going
1:21:43
to Auschwitz. My Dominic it was still quite
1:21:45
anti semitic, although there were beautiful moments. We
1:21:47
were dancing at a synagogue outside and his
1:21:49
old man walk by and he said. It
1:21:51
been so long since he'd see the jews come
1:21:54
home. It was very beautiful, but it was also
1:21:56
still at some attic. Went. To Israel
1:21:58
after that had the best time. I
1:22:00
was singing in the choir there for
1:22:02
Peace for Understanding. I came back. I
1:22:04
sang for Arnold Schwarzenegger for Peace for
1:22:06
Understanding. I've been working for over a
1:22:09
decade with an amazing org com Children
1:22:11
of Peace that brings Arab Israeli families
1:22:13
together in Israel. this is settling very
1:22:15
important to me. I.
1:22:18
Am a human. As I said before,
1:22:20
that shared light and love and I
1:22:22
don't want anyone to suffer as anywhere.
1:22:24
I don't understand how this planet's still
1:22:26
have wars. I. Don't understand.
1:22:29
We've learned nothing. No
1:22:31
one should ever be on alive for
1:22:33
some meat. North Assists cause like that's
1:22:35
just insane to me that we still
1:22:37
have work on a ceasefire around the
1:22:39
world. I've sent thousands of dollars to
1:22:41
try to Doctors without Borders and sent
1:22:44
thousands of dollars to help people in
1:22:46
Gaza. I pray for them every day
1:22:48
I have family there. I have fifty
1:22:50
family members and friends in Israel like
1:22:52
these are my people. This is important
1:22:54
to me and this fight for freedom,
1:22:56
for everybody to be respected and to
1:22:58
gather and live in love and peace.
1:23:01
And light is important to
1:23:03
me. And that David Devastating
1:23:05
and I tweeted. They.
1:23:07
Were smart To start with the people
1:23:09
love to hate because there were celebrations.
1:23:11
People were in the streets quoting Hum
1:23:13
month statements. Oh you are
1:23:16
a beautiful day. The want to see this
1:23:18
happen over and over. So I say it
1:23:20
was smart for them to start with a
1:23:22
place with a country people love to hate
1:23:24
and that kid. We tweeted it. Or
1:23:27
even have you the get on a whole The As
1:23:29
retreated and said this is disappointing. I'm like. What's.
1:23:31
Disappointing. I'm speaking about Hamas. I'm
1:23:34
speaking about a terrorist sword and
1:23:36
them they were saying no. I
1:23:38
was speaking about. Muslims.
1:23:41
And the press bought it. But there's. Evidence
1:23:43
that tweet was on the tenth of October.
1:23:46
Israel. Didn't go into Gaza. On.
1:23:48
The tenth of October and also Gaza isn't
1:23:51
a country I said is a country people
1:23:53
love to hate, but they took my words
1:23:55
and they spawn it. And also on that
1:23:57
day or a few days later there was
1:23:59
a. "We bet that Hamas is Isis
1:24:01
and I like debts and I also
1:24:03
like to tweet that", said "Thank you for
1:24:06
speaking up for the children and" About.
1:24:08
Twenty minutes later, much, oh, I didn't read the
1:24:10
entire tweet and it said something about like. Islam.
1:24:13
You know is a problem. Something like unlike that.
1:24:16
within twenty minutes of oh my god, that's not
1:24:18
like I just met it. Too fast happens happens.
1:24:20
When I'm doing a script I'll read. I've got
1:24:22
a script in front of me. I read something
1:24:24
completely different. Sure, And they took that
1:24:26
and a picture I post of Shiny Luke
1:24:29
from my friend who is a Muslim activists
1:24:31
low weight. You know him. He's amazing ascending
1:24:33
his death. He and I've been friends long
1:24:35
before October seventh and he posted a picture
1:24:38
that said this is not freedom meaning the
1:24:40
rape of these women and people to not
1:24:42
even though he was a Muslim post and
1:24:44
they took that to the press and the
1:24:47
press bought it which was heartbreaking by the
1:24:49
way. The rest of the tweet that said
1:24:51
thanks for I'm standing up for our children
1:24:54
The rest of that tweet was. That the
1:24:56
Jews are killing. That.
1:24:58
Was up for two days with my like on
1:25:00
it's Nobody said anything. Didn't. Make
1:25:02
The Press does. It didn't fit the
1:25:04
narrative that I was a terrible person.
1:25:06
Rights And I do think now that
1:25:08
I know. How. The
1:25:10
press operates rights. You can say, oh, the
1:25:13
Jews run Hollywood. There's a lot of Jews
1:25:15
and Holy Moly certainly don't run the press
1:25:17
right. You see how much negative there is.
1:25:19
And unless you're a Jewish person saying I
1:25:21
don't want to be Jewish anymore, you're in
1:25:23
a long without. right?
1:25:26
You can't say anything with have been attacking
1:25:28
you even do a this is an important
1:25:30
thing to me. I'm sending them money. I
1:25:32
love all people it doesn't matter. Your entire
1:25:35
world is defined by you accidently liking it.
1:25:37
Tweets if you accidentally like the wrong to
1:25:39
eat and that makes you a terrible person,
1:25:42
we are all in really big trouble. Trust
1:25:44
me, when you died and I could be
1:25:46
like which tweeted you accidently like. right?
1:25:50
I. it's just. It was
1:25:52
so heartbreaking to see so many people coming
1:25:54
at me when. I all I
1:25:56
want to do a spread. Love and Light and Help. It's all
1:25:58
I want to do and it's it's. Don't dare. People
1:26:00
are so mean you can't we anything
1:26:03
now without people going you know your
1:26:05
a Jewish genocide her rescue us I
1:26:07
think that yeah and I think he
1:26:09
was sort of with my experience has
1:26:11
been is you know anyone who's listen
1:26:13
to me for any number. Of years
1:26:16
or decades before. October Seventh knows
1:26:18
that You know I've been an
1:26:20
advocate for Palestinian rights. For Palestinian
1:26:22
dignity. For. A restructuring of many
1:26:25
policies of the Israeli governments. But
1:26:27
when it comes down to it, if
1:26:29
someone has. A problem with the fact that
1:26:31
I believe Israel should exist. We're.
1:26:33
Gonna have a fundamental problem because
1:26:35
I can hold both of those
1:26:37
things I said hold loves and
1:26:39
space for both people in my
1:26:41
heart and in a geographic place.
1:26:43
And for me, You know, I think
1:26:45
what you're talking about is really people
1:26:48
showing showing their cards to a certain
1:26:50
extent. You know if their fundamental issue
1:26:52
is that you believe that Israel should
1:26:54
exist, then unfortunately, it doesn't matter, right?
1:26:57
It's. Insane Like these people who I
1:26:59
think you're right, don't know that the
1:27:01
things they're chanting the hamas based chance
1:27:04
you're asking for me to the analyze.
1:27:06
You're. Asking for me and people that I love to not
1:27:09
exist. It's so
1:27:11
crazy to me that
1:27:13
people are so outwardly
1:27:15
vocally. Recently anti semitic
1:27:17
and they say no or not.
1:27:19
Yes, they are anti Semitic crimes
1:27:21
or up over and percent. Like
1:27:23
you said, it's at every college.
1:27:26
It's online every day. Every single
1:27:28
day in my inbox I get
1:27:30
Dies and Ironist. See you Next
1:27:32
is A every day. And.
1:27:36
It. Doesn't matter if I say I'm pro peace, I
1:27:39
want everyone to. Have Love! I want
1:27:41
everyone to be on my little pony and
1:27:43
I got my brain where I want everybody
1:27:45
to me you know, and cartoons are way
1:27:47
ahead of that game. Rugrats had black family
1:27:49
Jewish families. cartoons are all colors of the
1:27:51
rainbow they worship every one day. Love f
1:27:53
They love whoever they want to love and
1:27:55
we all love each other. We. Could
1:27:57
all learn some cartoons accident. That
1:28:00
coexisting is you know there
1:28:02
are beautiful, beautiful or eggs
1:28:04
in Israel hands hand in
1:28:06
hand schools. Were. Kids
1:28:08
are to gather Muslim Jewish. Everyone's
1:28:11
together to fight. Should be against
1:28:13
terrorism from everyone. There should be
1:28:15
no justification for terrorism. There should
1:28:18
be no justification for rape. You
1:28:20
should be able to say I'm
1:28:22
praying for these children to be
1:28:25
returned to their parents without being
1:28:27
pulled a Zionist. See you next
1:28:29
Tuesday! If a kid was
1:28:32
kidnapped in your neighborhood, Derby signs everywhere. people wouldn't
1:28:34
be tearing them. don't. Have
1:28:36
that the people hate Jews because they're at
1:28:39
war is insane. Around the world. They don't
1:28:41
hate. Christians. Because America's
1:28:43
at war. Do. It
1:28:45
Israel has Jews, christians,
1:28:47
Hindus, Druze, Muslims, everybody
1:28:49
is a country you can hate the
1:28:52
way Netanyahu's done things. You can hate
1:28:54
certain policies, but the hate an entire
1:28:56
group of people is stupid. I don't
1:28:58
Nobody said. And the fact that there's
1:29:01
all this very vocal hatred for Jewish
1:29:03
people is terrifying. I don't understand why
1:29:05
they're more are more arrests at some
1:29:07
of these rallies where people are causing.
1:29:10
Pretty. Terrible vandalism. A guy died,
1:29:13
a guy died in California. You
1:29:16
know it used to be when Black Lives Matter was
1:29:18
at it's peak we knew to share the mike. Now
1:29:20
it feels like not only do they not want to
1:29:22
show the mike they were taken from us and his
1:29:24
over that and kill us look like I got killed
1:29:26
by a megaphone. Like.
1:29:28
If I'm saying this field anti semitic, believe me,
1:29:31
I grew up with this. It's in my blood.
1:29:33
My grandmother escape the Pope programs at sixteen she
1:29:35
put her all her family on a boat or
1:29:37
mom said if I died sir fault she saves
1:29:39
a generation. This. Is in our blood to.
1:29:42
Any Jewish person today is alive
1:29:44
because your ancestors survived being hunted,
1:29:47
Period. Don't. Hate Jews You
1:29:49
can hate a policy you can hate a
1:29:51
war I he hours most used you know
1:29:53
do once genocide node you wanted innocent person
1:29:56
to suffer We want invite you over for
1:29:58
multiple soup period. Thank.
1:30:01
You Karen I'm. It's
1:30:04
It's a pleasure to get to talk to you about
1:30:06
such a variety of things. From you know, from
1:30:09
your voice over career to the magic
1:30:11
that you bring to your. Love. For
1:30:13
all people, and it's as it seems,
1:30:15
it seems so fitting that you get
1:30:17
to live this life. You know where
1:30:19
you are creating characters that bring
1:30:22
so much joy. To so many
1:30:24
people. Where can
1:30:26
we tell? people serve to find you? Where
1:30:28
do you like to direct people? That can
1:30:30
we plugged for you. Wow!
1:30:32
I'm still on all social media
1:30:34
platforms believe it or not I
1:30:36
still believe people are good and
1:30:38
still gonna keep pushing for all
1:30:40
of the charity work that I
1:30:42
do and helping people and making
1:30:44
people feel good and seen an
1:30:46
important matters to me some still
1:30:48
there at Tara Strong. I'm also
1:30:50
at Her A Strong on Instagram
1:30:52
and on Tic Tac and I'm
1:30:54
I'm going to be for the
1:30:56
first time releasing a class with
1:30:58
all my secrets be ties at
1:31:01
every single time. Someone says and on
1:31:03
mine had again the voiceover. Really wanna get
1:31:05
into voice our and it is not a
1:31:07
simple one answer question and I've never done
1:31:09
it before because it is such a small
1:31:11
group of people that find success that I
1:31:13
didn't want to take someone's money and not
1:31:15
be able to offer a reward and I
1:31:18
can't guarantee myself much. I saw blood on
1:31:20
anyone else so I didn't do it before
1:31:22
but at one point my boyfriend like you
1:31:24
get asked us all the time why didn't
1:31:26
you tell them what you can and make
1:31:28
it a community? So I've been working on
1:31:30
it for over. A. Year I recorded hours and
1:31:33
hours of dialogue. sort of like masterclass with
1:31:35
all my secrets. There's a lot of weird
1:31:37
shit to are a lot of magic set
1:31:39
of how I create a character, What I
1:31:42
do everything you need to know to get
1:31:44
in. it's but it's going to be a
1:31:46
community where we all get to see ourselves
1:31:48
and hear ourselves animated and work together. And
1:31:50
I'm here for people for auditions and blah
1:31:53
de blah blah blah that's be coming out
1:31:55
soon. It's all done and edited and unlike
1:31:57
so happy with it is. It's like I
1:31:59
said. Not ah, guaranteeing you work, it's teaching
1:32:01
you all of my little secrets and what I
1:32:03
do and I'm just sharing with inmate crazy brain
1:32:06
with every city, where will people be able to
1:32:08
find that I'll announce it on all my social
1:32:10
platform. Who? and I don't say the name yet
1:32:12
as it came to me kind of like a
1:32:15
god son of kind of fun. So it's only
1:32:17
the hair. Okay, great. It's really really was so
1:32:19
great to see. You. And I'm also really
1:32:21
appreciate you sharing, you know, and not
1:32:24
just everything going on, but specifically what's
1:32:26
been going on regarding Israel. Stuff. So
1:32:28
thank you so much. Think. He thanks for
1:32:30
having me. Oh.
1:32:34
I know what you're going to say. Jonathan. What?
1:32:36
Am I good as a. You. Can't believe that
1:32:38
I know someone. Who. Believes in
1:32:41
so many awesome things like crystals and
1:32:43
magic. And I never tells you about it. I've
1:32:46
been keeping you away from her. Well.
1:32:48
As good as his. She's. Hazard
1:32:51
Life Mission of Spreading. Light
1:32:54
and love. You. Can spread light, love
1:32:56
and science. Why
1:32:58
do you have to? May be competitive with Thera? It was. Put
1:33:01
into i'm just saying you know as
1:33:03
I'm models to live by. As
1:33:05
and co a lot more spread. Enlighten Love!
1:33:07
I'm into it. I used to have Asia
1:33:09
email when I was there. Some lives. There's.
1:33:12
A lot of worry I was if
1:33:14
it isn't as know tell you it's
1:33:16
allies Niger. It was a Rivera. Light.
1:33:19
Of at we love to embarrass
1:33:21
you or your email. Was.
1:33:24
It like know if so there's a
1:33:26
few people and draw know that know
1:33:28
what email was a hotmail account. Oh
1:33:31
males. And. You
1:33:34
know, I feel like. In. My. Late
1:33:37
teens, early twenties. I had. I.
1:33:40
Mean, I was a little naive, but
1:33:42
I was unabashedly. Pursuing
1:33:44
that type of like leading with
1:33:47
love Them as it was. Just
1:33:50
the I was like the world is just needs
1:33:52
all of that. And.
1:33:54
Then I. Decided. I had to
1:33:57
make a living somehow and it all practical.
1:33:59
Reality said it. In In I feel like
1:34:01
I lost some of that. I mean as
1:34:03
think it's my foundation and I I I
1:34:05
believe for believe that when you come back
1:34:07
to a place of love and he always
1:34:09
spoken about this on the show. or and
1:34:11
even if you come back to the science
1:34:13
of what is it means actually lead with
1:34:15
love. Over. You and
1:34:17
give it a silliness of why I think
1:34:19
it actually ties back into the some of
1:34:22
the stuff we're talking about in terms of
1:34:24
having more. Cognitive. Flexibility.
1:34:26
I. Think that positivity positivity gets a
1:34:29
bad. Rap You know I'm because are
1:34:31
toxic positivity which is not what we're
1:34:33
talking about. Know there's toxic positivity which
1:34:36
I mean that fuel. Subsidies. But
1:34:38
yeah, there's there's toxic
1:34:40
positivity. There's also. Lip service.
1:34:42
You know, lot of people give lip service to lot.
1:34:44
Of this stuff and and event is once
1:34:46
you can like by the slogan on a
1:34:48
tea towel you know that you can buy
1:34:51
in Tj Maxx which is a place that
1:34:53
I happen to love and not disparaging Tj
1:34:55
Maxx. but once you can buy that slogan
1:34:57
on a t tell it's he's a Max.
1:34:59
it can definitely lose some of the the
1:35:01
depths and the new buses and the power
1:35:03
behind it. But if you'd like to have
1:35:05
a happy saying on it he tell. By
1:35:08
all means go for it. but
1:35:10
the larger and. And deeper notion which
1:35:12
in some ways makes it a smaller notion because
1:35:14
it. Literally starts just with you raise
1:35:16
what's between your two years of.
1:35:19
This notion that. What?
1:35:21
Positivity feels like. Your brain
1:35:23
is an opening. And. It's
1:35:25
more choice and it's
1:35:28
more flexible and it
1:35:30
is open. And
1:35:32
the opposite of that, That.
1:35:34
Small mindedness. You know
1:35:36
it's some. It's. A buzz
1:35:38
kill. It's a it's a joy
1:35:40
kill it is a closing I'm I've been
1:35:42
dealing with them health stuff recently and since
1:35:44
tell you how many doctors are like your
1:35:47
we're gonna figure this out and I need
1:35:49
you to believe that and I'm like but
1:35:51
items as one of feel sorry for myself
1:35:53
like yeah but it is so many people
1:35:55
are to see me and i think of
1:35:57
the or on to something rights we have.
1:36:00
Have. An. Openness for
1:36:02
hope, And. The brain knows what
1:36:04
that feels like. The way. That positivity
1:36:06
gets a bad rap. Is
1:36:08
that? When. It's shallow.
1:36:11
When. It's surface. People are like. Know
1:36:13
it gets a bad rep when people don't wanna hear
1:36:15
it. Uber people say that's a so
1:36:17
easy to be loving and positive way and
1:36:19
all around problems are taking care of by
1:36:21
someone else or when you don't have to
1:36:23
deal with the hard reality of life and
1:36:25
difficult choices that we have to make that
1:36:27
it's super easy to just be like oh
1:36:29
I love everyone It everywhere it's all going
1:36:31
work out like it's it seems a straight
1:36:34
sometimes. Well. And I think also
1:36:36
A for people who are feeling. Negative, which
1:36:38
I I sometimes am. It's very.
1:36:40
Easy to say will because they're skinny. Because.
1:36:43
They pretty or because they have more
1:36:45
money because they have a bigger house.
1:36:47
I mean a week. We as humans
1:36:50
can make up any reason. You.
1:36:52
Know third, to turn inward and to
1:36:54
not be open. But this is one
1:36:56
of the things that you know. Having
1:36:58
I'm. An instructive meditation practice
1:37:00
teaches you is that that is
1:37:03
all about how you frame things.
1:37:05
It. Is as easy. To. Not
1:37:07
go there as it is to go there
1:37:10
is flipping a switch rights. So the question
1:37:12
is what. Do you replace it with you know?
1:37:15
So. This is where I want to go
1:37:17
because. What? We replace it with
1:37:19
doesn't necessarily need to be. I. Know
1:37:21
what the solution is right? Holding
1:37:23
hope that it is not gonna
1:37:25
be the darkest part. Of. Our
1:37:28
psyche that surfaces. Even
1:37:30
I'm going through something is this of, even
1:37:32
I don't think there's something the Vanilla either
1:37:34
an ongoing this I'm gonna. Okay raise the
1:37:36
suit tapping your as different people are only
1:37:38
listening to my was doing that and she
1:37:40
was tapping different parts of her body. Will
1:37:43
return them. As sapping
1:37:45
on their actually i'm actually pressure
1:37:47
points, but of yeah, there's There's
1:37:50
a technique where you're. You're.
1:37:52
Acknowledging that you're in the
1:37:54
middle of something, but you're
1:37:56
holding out hope. That.
1:37:59
God loves you. Who you're. Taken care
1:38:01
of, your protected, and there's a
1:38:03
whole system. That goes with this kind of
1:38:05
in are tapping technique. It's a reassessment of how
1:38:07
you feel about it when you're done. With a
1:38:10
sequence and often it means you have to go
1:38:12
deeper than. Find out what's beneath, You know the
1:38:14
fear or what you're going through? I'm so it's
1:38:16
It's kind of up a portal into the try
1:38:18
and learn more about something. That you're feeling
1:38:20
despair about. We. Also know that.
1:38:23
The brain will pull reality
1:38:25
in the direction. It. Thinks
1:38:28
it will go. So. When she
1:38:30
talks about having positivity, We.
1:38:33
Will look to reinforce what we're
1:38:35
thinking and feeling. It's a sort
1:38:38
of. Placebo. Effect for your brain.
1:38:41
At work. That. Works and sometimes
1:38:43
Placebo effect was like oh, it's not
1:38:45
actually working but like we know that
1:38:47
if I'm sitting me in this interview
1:38:49
being like no one wants to hear
1:38:51
anything I'm talking about, I will read
1:38:53
your facial cues that may be totally
1:38:55
unrelated to anything I'm saying and then
1:38:57
projects. What? I believe on
1:39:00
see you. So. That I will create
1:39:02
the reality that is happening in my
1:39:04
brain. So if we do, Have
1:39:07
more openness if we do have. More.
1:39:09
Hope with we hold the possibility that
1:39:11
things can get better, that there are
1:39:13
solutions to be had. and sometimes that
1:39:15
is. ah, that that part of that
1:39:18
is holding onto or connecting to something
1:39:20
greater than ourselves because we can't figure
1:39:22
out what the solution may be then.
1:39:25
It tends to go in that direction
1:39:27
with it tends to get better. By.
1:39:30
Programming ourselves to believe it will. There's.
1:39:33
A charity. Story that I reference
1:39:35
frequently. I'm a boy. goes
1:39:37
to his grandfather and he says there's
1:39:40
two wolves fighting inside of me. He.
1:39:42
No one is darkness and and violence
1:39:44
and destruction. and the other is good.
1:39:47
Mm mingling this as I say it.
1:39:49
but I'm and the other is is
1:39:51
goodness and joy and hope and and
1:39:53
peace and love. And they're fighting and.
1:39:58
And. The and he says to his grand the other
1:40:00
you know which is gonna win and the grandfather's
1:40:02
answer is the one you feed. right?
1:40:05
That's literally that that is. this.
1:40:08
What? You feed and you know there's actually
1:40:10
I'm as a story in the Big Book
1:40:12
of Alcoholics Anonymous about a man who's very
1:40:14
upset. With his wife and. He
1:40:17
said that the more that he focused on the things he
1:40:19
was upset about. The larger they grow, And.
1:40:21
When he started focusing on the positive
1:40:23
aspects of her, those growth rates. And
1:40:26
so when we're in in a relationship
1:40:28
with another person, not just romantic relationship,
1:40:30
when we're. In any interaction with another
1:40:32
person, that's what we're constantly doing.
1:40:34
We're constantly filtering. And you know, if
1:40:36
I want to believe that the interview
1:40:39
with going well I I can look
1:40:41
to your face and if you look
1:40:43
like you're distracted instead of thinking
1:40:45
he's upset with what I'm saying,
1:40:47
he doesn't like how this is going.
1:40:50
I can sing any number of things.
1:40:52
maybe he's making an editing knows,
1:40:54
maybe he saw and upsetting message.
1:40:56
Come. Up because he didn't turn off his do Not
1:40:58
disturb. You know from. As it's it could be any
1:41:00
number of things, but doesn't have to be me.
1:41:02
That's when it means you know and then I
1:41:04
will seek that. You. Know I will continue
1:41:07
to do things and that's the notion of you
1:41:09
know, self fulfilling prophecies which there's been some research
1:41:11
a little bit hard to test as you can
1:41:13
imagine. It's hard to have a control group
1:41:15
for a self fulfilling prophecy. It's a self
1:41:17
fulfilling prophecy of the Study of the Study
1:41:19
it turned out of my supervisor at Rights
1:41:21
Or but that really is a very similar
1:41:23
notion. So I really enjoyed talking to Tara.
1:41:26
Of up so many things and so articulate
1:41:28
and expressive am I Just love talking to
1:41:31
her. What we do
1:41:33
get to do and I want our back
1:41:35
is just beat her a series of probes
1:41:37
and just hover. go nuts with all the
1:41:39
different characters he has in her head on
1:41:41
his wants five minute mash up of the
