An F. Scott Fitzgerald short story published in August of 1936. It was an additional piece of his public and personal revelation he called The Crack-Up in which he talks openly about his decline from fame and success while not yet 40. It ran as a series of essays in Esquire magazine. Afternoon of an Author was  written after the poor public response to the publication of Tender is the Night, his fourth novel. He would die of a heart attack just five years later at 44.
