it's five p.m. Somewhere in the metaverse.

0:03

And that means it's time for me to our podcast.

0:08

Welcome to another episode of meta our the podcast,

0:24

episode two, meta our is a weekly podcast.

0:28

Bring you news, noteworthy events happening in the metaverse,

0:31

decentralized technologies, entertainment and of course a meta our cocktail to enjoy.

0:37

Today's cocktail is a meta tonic,

0:40

a juniper flavored classic drink of the gin and tonic actually it's just a gin and tonic,

0:47

but we call it the meta tonic because we drink it in the metaverse and don't forget to stick around to the end of the episode where we'll discuss the meta tonic and how you can make one to enjoy for yourself during your next meta our this is the second episode of meta hour the podcast.

1:03

Today we'll be talking about what is the metaverse in general,

1:07

how some big news about augmented reality will be driving metaverse development central or decentralized and a throwback to the original meta versus and then we'll be following up with our cocktail.

1:22

We've had some feedback already after the first episode,

1:25

surprisingly the eight minutes episode.

1:30

Um one thing people were asking about was getting a little more background information on what some of these terminologies are.

1:37

I think a lot of people didn't know what ZK ropes were.

1:40

Side chains theory. Um I think it's interesting kind of just look at what the metaverse is and how it's understood now.

1:47

It's surprising, spent a lot of time reading have been involved in cryptocurrencies for a long time technology.

1:56

To me the metaverse just kind of makes sense.

1:58

Science fiction books I read when I was younger a lot of people still don't quite understand what that term means and I think um it's interesting we kind of just break down where metaverse comes from and what meta means.

2:12

Um I think at the top level anything that's meta is typically information that's carried on the back of something else.

2:19

Um So we have the universe and we have the metaverse,

2:23

it's a continuous universe that we have but then you tag on an exterior level of information namely a ready player one like um environment where you exist in a character outside of yourself.

2:40

Um And I think that in the future far in the future it's possible that that type of metaverse will be what we end up at but it's gonna take a lot to get that ready.

2:51

Player one type technology going.

2:53

Um And it's gonna take a lot of not just technology but it's gonna take a lot of people's minds changing and the abilities to stay submerged in a game like atmosphere like that for a long time and vision problems,

3:07

um orientation,

3:09

feelings, you know just health concerns.

3:12

But I do think that you know between now and then um there are some metaverse is we you know that exist now there's d central land which is just a browser based game you can jump into.

3:25

Um and everyone runs around with each other.

3:28

There was games like 2nd life and um you could even look at video games that are multiplayer games like World of Warcraft as being kind of limited meta versus um I think that the idea that you know,

3:42

I hate to come back to facebook, everyone's to hate on them and you know whatever they've done good or bad,

3:48

they they kind of are breaking society right now with this term meta.

3:54

Um and their idea of the metaverse,

3:56

it's really bringing into the into the four minds of people out there,

4:00

but um their idea that metaverse is this Ready Player One type um world with goggles and you know fully immersive,

4:11

but I think that in reality it's going to be more augmented to start.

4:15

Um and ironically earlier today I was taking a ride with a friend in his classic seventies vet to get lunch and as we were heading down there,

4:24

the topic of the metaverse came up and I was explaining to him that while facebook meta Is pushing the concept of ready player one in their advertising and getting people excited about this even though it's going to take 20 years um and it will take an incredibly long time to not only build to get people plugged in,

4:43

but in the meantime the universe, as we understand it will be uh a blend of reality and virtual reality in what we already know of as augmented reality,

4:53

which I'm sure most people are familiar with the idea that we wear glasses or even look through our phones and we see something that's not there,

5:02

it only exists um in the digital world and overlaid on top of the the real world to create an augmented world.

5:11

Um and well the point is a few hours later,

5:16

Techcrunch this afternoon reported that Niantic of Pokemon Go,

5:23

the developers Had raised $300 million $9 billion dollar evaluation to build a real world metaverse um which is an augmented reality metaverse.

5:37

And according to annex ceo john Hawk,

5:40

they're building a future where the real world is overlaid with digital creations,

5:45

entertainment and information, making it more magical,

5:48

fun and informative. I love how it's magical.

5:52

Um a general partner of Co two who's the investment company who made the $300 million investment says that Niantic is building a platform for a are based on a three D map of the world that we believe will play a critical role in the next transition in computing.

6:07

And I think that's really the kind of the key point there that Niantic is building a technology that is tangible.

6:15

They're going to map the world supposedly and be able to create a second layer of information that you can access to a computer through goggles through a phone.

6:26

I mean, I don't know what, you know, it's going to be specifically most likely a mobile device um Pokemon go and I think that that means is,

6:37

it's not just, you know, meta facebook creating this metaverse,

6:40

it's not just the central land, what they've got,

6:43

we have just as of today a new player who's going to step up in a big way to create the second layer of information we're gonna put access and they will surely be more companies jumping into the space with billions of dollars in capital investment.

6:58

Um but the concept of building a map, a ble interactive real world metaverse overlay seems far more tangible in the near future.

7:06

Then the ready player, one type future we're all expecting or that meta is kind of putting out there,

7:11

which kind of brings up the next topic. Can metaverse beast centralized facebook seems to think so,

7:17

I think their idea is that they're going to create this ip that you have to plug into their world even it's very central core to facebook and interact through their social platform.

7:33

Um Niantic probably thinking the same thing,

7:36

they're going to create this map a ble overlay of the real world where you can interact with things that are only existing in there,

7:46

mapped version of augmented reality,

7:49

but I think it has to be universal, I mean it can't just be facebook for Sony or first Microsoft,

7:56

who I'm sure is going to be developing something,

7:59

we're announcing something at least soon to get money raised,

8:02

going to have to function like the internet where you move between platforms or worlds or however it's defined without needing to change your glasses or your ocular implants.

8:12

You know one day in the future it can't function like it used to back in the days before the internet we had standalone platforms like compuserve and Prodigy where you had to dial into them one at a time to access whatever data they were holding or individuals who had bolt and bolt services.

8:30

Um W W I V was a popular one where you had a modem and you called your friend's house and connected to his computer and you could leave messages for other people to read but it was all very,

8:40

you know centralized in that sense um where each person was their own node and I think that these standalone platforms for many worlds or a place you could feel like you traveled too much like the future metaverse.

8:55

Um but they weren't interconnected and they required distinct software and made them all very isolated from each other.

9:02

I can't see a world in the future where you're going to need to change a piece of hardware or disconnect your glasses in order to remove from Zuckerberg's to NYU?

9:10

Antics to gates platforms.

9:13

Even if meta is saying we'll build it together,

9:15

which is there kind of catchphrase the goal is retention and there's no way they're going to build a platform that is open ended.

9:23

Most likely we'll have to see bridging platforms that get created that allow you to migrate from one unit Multiverse to another Multiverse without having to leave the comfort of your glasses or your hardware things are kind of plug or play or kind of bring it full circle smaller,

9:39

independent decentralized meta verses will start to take hold um and offset any of the one corporations holds.

9:46

Um but that's probably asking too much for right now,

9:50

most people out there have been trying to explain the metaverse tend to use ready player one as they go to example,

9:55

but there have been countless other VR encompassing fictionalized stories um NEal Stephenson's Snow Crash,

10:04

William, Gibson's Neuromancer Interesting.

10:07

Side note, Gibson actually coined the term cyberspace in New York Mansour Back in 1984,

10:14

which I think cyberspace has actually become a bit of an old term now anyway,

10:18

Very 90s, I think it was,

10:20

that was used. Um but one thing we may not think about which was the kind of a pent ultimate multiverse is the Matrix series granted most of humanity didn't have much choice to exist in that metaverse,

10:34

it still technically is a universe with an overlay of additional metadata,

10:38

even if it's overlaid through their brains directly.

10:41

Um and as we know, the next movie installment is coming out in about a month and the reason I diverge is today,

10:48

they released a series of character posters for promotion,

10:52

a pretty typical thing to do and each character gets its own poster.

10:56

But the reason I bring it up is there's one for the character,

10:59

the analyst played by none other than Neil Patrick Harris.

11:04

And while the fact that Neil Patrick Harris is in the movie is not exactly new news,

11:10

seeing him in the poster just did something funny in my mind.

11:15

Um and I think it's kind of best summed up by reddit quote by like Zoinks 305,

11:21

who said If you told me 10 years ago that Neil Patrick Harris would be in a matrix sequel,

11:26

I wouldn't know how to respond and to be honest,

11:29

neither do I, but this is a great time to switch gears and take a look at our meta,

11:36

our cocktail for the week. The meta tonic,

11:39

a traditional gin and tonic made for the metaverse.

11:43

A gin and tonic is very simple by nature,

11:46

it's only a 2-1 ratio Twice as much tonic to one part gin.

11:52

It's important to get a good quality tonic that is not too sweet.

11:57

They can overpower the gin that you've chosen.

12:00

Subsequently. The gin can be a few different variations.

12:04

The traditional english beefeater gin,

12:07

tang Garay, those work as a solid choice,

12:11

but you can also delve into some of the more sweeter tones.

12:16

There's a lot of jin's out there that are becoming craft kind of cocktail varieties,

12:21

you can find them at most higher end liquor stores.

12:24

Now, I even came across a whole entire selection of them at whole foods which is started carrying liquors.

12:31

They had quite a nice selection with tasting notes on the bottles.

12:35

It's a very simple drink, two ounces of gin,

12:38

four oz of tonic over ice,

12:42

give it a stir, add a squeeze of lime and serve.

12:47

I always think of gin and tonics as a traditionally summer drink,

12:50

but I find that on any meta hour they're just as refreshing.

12:56

Thanks for joining us for another episode of meta our the podcast.

13:00

We'll be back next week with more news and updates on the metaverse technology,

13:04

Cryptocurrency, decentralization and more.

13:07

And of course we'll have another meta our cocktail to enjoy because it's always five p.m. In the metaverse.

13:13

I'm your host. Ben Stanley saying cheers okay.
