To summarize a line in Shakespeare’s hamlet, the purpose of theatre is to represent reality, holding a mirror up to virtue, to vice, and to the spirit of the times. But what happens when the mirror doesn’t reflect the full picture? As a straight, white, cisgender woman, I spent many of my early years naïve in believing that theatre was a magical place where all are welcome and represented. But as most of my fellow theatre peers know, that could not be further from the truth. Although theatre attracts all types of people, it has a long way to go to truly be inclusive. This podcast is an exploration of intersectionality and theatre. Join us in listening as artists share their struggles and successes navigating their identity within the confines of theatre.
