acquaintances: occasional contact with very general knowledge of each other; talk about general topics that won’t cause the person to feel threatened or that you are trying to pry; the lowest level of friendshipCasual friends: have common interests, activities, and concerns; meet more frequently than acquaintances and talk about common interests; praise and encourage each other in achievements and accomplishments; not serious about each other emotionally.Close friends: mutual interests and life goals, handiwork mutually toward reaching those goals; often share similar values, ideals, and worldviews; “Most people never get this far in their relationships, and others jump straight from acquaintances to “intimate” because they do not know how to go through the friendship-building process.Intimate friends: committed to the development of each others character; requires the freedom to be vulnerable, as well as correct each other; mutual responsibility of open honesty with discretion; committed to working with each other toward becoming better people
