Hey guys,
0:04
and welcome
0:08
to the
0:11
Moms & Mysteries
0:13
podcast. A
0:26
true crime podcast featuring myself, Mandy, and
0:28
my dear friend, Melissa. Hi, Melissa. Hi
0:30
Mandy. How are you? I'm
0:33
fantastic. It's February. It's
0:35
a new month. I feel like a new person.
0:38
I, it's only February 2nd. I told
0:40
you yesterday, February was already awesome. And
0:43
you're like, wow, Mandy, that's the spirit.
0:45
We're only one day in. So, I
0:48
was like, I don't know if I'm not pumped up
0:50
about February, but I guess I need to be, I
0:53
need to match your excitement. Um,
0:55
but I'm glad February is here. It
0:57
already is sunnier outside. Like it already
0:59
looks better. I'm, I'm telling you, it
1:02
real, there's really something to it. There's
1:04
something to saying goodbye to January. I
1:07
know. Well, you know, my daughter's birthday was in January and
1:10
we were even talking about it, she's like, it's
1:12
been like 10 days since my birthday. She's like,
1:14
it feels like forever. I was like, I know. Like
1:16
we couldn't believe it either. I know.
1:18
I know. So it's also a leap year. It
1:21
is. Is always fun. And
1:24
I decided to look up like the actual reason why
1:26
we have a leap year. Do you know the reason
1:28
why there's a leap year? Okay. Here's
1:30
my, my thinking. So we, every
1:33
year is technically 364 and a quarter days. And
1:37
so those move and then they add
1:39
together and that adds one more day.
1:43
Well, it's 365, but the rest of what you just said is Wait,
1:48
what did I say? Yeah.
1:50
Oh, okay. Yeah. So I don't
1:52
know if, if they just didn't teach me that
1:54
in school or if I have just, I obviously
1:56
have never like looked it up or cared enough
1:58
to really learn or. They didn't stick with
2:00
me. I probably did learn and like that are great
2:03
but yes that is the reason why. Says at the
2:05
actual time it takes for the sun to. Go.
2:07
Around the Earth is. Or
2:09
for the earth's her of hotter offences. Plus honestly
2:11
I couldn't tell you what is it that goes
2:13
for them. whereas with us it's actually three hundred
2:16
and sixty five like in a club, out and
2:18
a quarter. so every four years they added day
2:20
to the calendar to make it make up for
2:22
it. Still a thing I found out because I
2:24
was little, what would happen if they didn't That.
2:26
Was crying of course. My next point a thing or
2:28
two years you would go there. Yes, of course. So
2:30
that out leap days though the calendar. Would
2:32
be off by five hours. Forty eight. Minutes and
2:35
forty five seconds more every year and
2:37
then after a hundred years the seasons
2:39
would be off by twenty five days.
2:41
So that's why we have to do
2:44
it. Otherwise like it will sync up
2:46
with the seasons like the actual little
2:48
we know for would eventually shift and
2:50
so it would be like. Our
2:52
know, a hundred years from now we would have summer
2:55
we'll deal. Fake. It was really always
2:57
yes. Like that we lay hemispheres,
2:59
somebody saw. You. Have an
3:01
idea that he says assess assess
3:04
know that's interesting of my husband
3:06
and has as. Leap Year
3:08
birthday and so I always hold on of interesting.
3:10
I don't let the only person I know but
3:12
like how we would that has to be you
3:14
know to specialists that would be cool So when
3:16
to see celebrate usually does she say to see
3:18
claim. February twenty eighth or March first. And
3:21
analysis a consumer's. Of
3:24
see very nice I just don't see are very
3:26
often. I just know. That it's on.
3:28
Leave yourself. At home. But.
3:31
You can give you any additional
3:33
information now minister. Yeah.
3:35
So February. After a
3:37
great start so far very happy
3:39
about. That for sure. Melissa, As you
3:41
said, it's getting warmer Be a beautiful weekend
3:44
coming up. I'm very kind of am. I
3:46
feel like. Now. Twenty
3:48
Twenty Four is starting. To snap were erasing
3:50
everything to happen before. This is a cistern
3:52
latika pop culture stuff so I'm not ready
3:54
to do that by I will lead to
3:56
success. so get
3:59
into the episode this week, this
4:01
story is really something else. It kind
4:03
of deals with something that we all
4:05
deal with, which is social media, interacting
4:08
with people online, meeting people on the
4:10
internet and truly not really
4:12
knowing who they are at their
4:14
core when you think about
4:16
it. And I do remember a time when
4:19
meeting people online was considered actually risky and
4:21
dangerous and it really wasn't that
4:23
long ago. It was really when
4:25
internet access became widely available and everybody started
4:27
using chat rooms and just having access to
4:30
people that you wouldn't normally have access to.
4:32
And I kind of grew
4:34
up in this like era where this was
4:36
starting to become a thing. And I remember
4:38
my parents always telling me that, you know,
4:41
I needed to be careful online. They were
4:43
always drilling internet safety into my head, you
4:45
know, telling me that there's bad people out
4:47
there that now have access to everybody,
4:49
you know, through these chat rooms and through the
4:52
internet. And they always told me to never even
4:54
share so much as my real name, certainly no
4:56
personal information that could ever track me down like
4:58
physically or anything like that. If
5:00
I ever told my parents I met a friend online
5:02
and wanted to meet them, do you think they
5:04
would have let me do that Melissa? Absolutely
5:07
not. Plus you could have accidentally gotten in
5:09
the chat room with a teenage girl who
5:11
was pretending to be an 80 year old
5:13
man for no reason. I was a big
5:15
danger. But even today
5:20
I feel like that has stuck
5:22
with me just because like I said, we
5:24
kind of grew up hearing that it's like
5:26
danger. There's danger lurking on the internet. And
5:29
I don't think I'm ever really going to
5:31
get over that. I still have this kind
5:33
of unspoken weird fear that I need to
5:35
protect my identity online. And somebody out there
5:37
could just be watching in silence waiting to
5:40
sabotage me or hurt me or something. I
5:42
think it's a healthy fear though. Honestly, I'm
5:44
way on board with that. I definitely think
5:46
there's something to it. For
5:48
sure. There is something to it. But times certainly
5:51
have changed in terms of what society
5:54
considers normal. And most of
5:56
the interactions people have now, especially like
5:58
the younger generation is all
6:00
pretty much done online. People are meeting
6:03
friends online. Most people are
6:05
meeting their romantic partners online. And
6:07
really, like this was not a thing even 10 to 15
6:09
years ago, people would actually look at
6:11
you with concern. If you told them you were
6:13
dating somebody you met online, Melissa, you kind of
6:15
have a similar story of that. Oh, I met
6:18
my husband online. And for a while, I told
6:20
people that we met through his sister because she
6:22
was in the same town I did because that
6:24
seemed less weird because exactly what you're saying people
6:26
thought it was strange. So right,
6:28
or they want to go back and figure out
6:32
the temperature of the country and everybody was like,
6:34
okay with it. I'm like, by the way, we've
6:36
met online. Don't worry about it. I had never
6:38
met a sister. It's good. Right. Yeah. But it's
6:40
so common now. Like nobody bats an eye at
6:42
all. If you say like, Hey, I have this
6:44
friend and someone says, well, where
6:46
do you know them? Right? Like, I met
6:48
them online. Nobody cares. Everyone's like, Oh, that
6:51
that makes total sense. Yeah. But
6:53
even though things have changed, it really does not
6:55
mean that we should let our guard down because
6:57
there are still plenty of reasons to
6:59
be very careful with who you talk to
7:01
online and who you share personal information with
7:03
online. And you know, the internet
7:06
is a wonderful thing, but it does have an
7:08
ugly side. And that is kind of highlighted in
7:10
the story that we're discussing this week. Living
7:13
the influencer lifestyle is like starring in your
7:15
own reality show where the plot revolves around
7:18
the dramatic unveiling of the new bikini that
7:20
you just brought on vacation. And of course,
7:22
the nail biting suspense of choosing the right
7:25
photo to post influencers
7:27
truly do work around the clock. They're
7:29
always creating aesthetic content with all the
7:31
vibes. And they're doing it all
7:33
while maintaining a hairstyle that defies both gravity
7:35
and common sense. Nice
7:38
clothes, cars, houses, all
7:40
of these things are a must for any
7:42
decent highlight reel. But yet an influencer's currency
7:44
is not gold or Bitcoin, but the number
7:46
of followers they have. But hey,
7:49
we're not here to knock on influencers today.
7:51
You do you and may all your angles
7:53
be flattering and your sponsor content deals be
7:56
ever plentiful. I'm just providing a
7:58
little bit of context into the lifestyle that Kelsey
8:00
Nicole Turner was accustomed to. In 2017, Kelsey
8:03
Turner was in her early 20s
8:06
and living her version of the good life. She
8:09
had seen success in modeling and had
8:11
appeared in magazines including Playboy Italia which
8:13
led to having an Instagram following of
8:16
over a hundred thousand. Kelsey
8:18
who went by Bad
8:20
Barbie on social media, you need to
8:23
point out that Bad Barbie has two
8:25
Ds. Oh Bad
8:27
has two Ds. Yes and not
8:31
confused with Bad Baby which
8:33
is the cash me outside
8:35
girl or Bad Bonnie
8:37
which is okay. Kendall Jenner's
8:39
ex-boyfriend. There's like a rapper. Too
8:42
many baddies going around right now. So
8:45
she mostly posted pictures of herself in just
8:47
a skimpy lingerie and bikinis and that was
8:50
the type of account that she had. She
8:53
did have a quote in her
8:55
Instagram bio by the rapper Pee-Lo
8:57
that said if they hating
8:59
got a price to pay California on
9:02
my license plate. Could
9:04
you translate that for me because I don't have
9:06
a clue what that means. I think she's
9:09
saying if you hate on me you're
9:11
gonna pay the price and I live
9:13
in California. As
9:18
long as we're on the same page there because that's
9:20
what I got out of it. Okay good.
9:23
So in 2018 Kelsey applied to be
9:25
on the cover of Maxim and in
9:27
the questionnaire she had to fill out
9:29
for this application she described herself as
9:31
a Russian-American blonde just trying to change
9:33
the world. She said that if
9:35
she won she would use the $25,000 prize to pay off her student debt
9:39
and to help her family. In
9:41
another interview Kelsey said she loved thrills
9:43
and she loved having fun. She just
9:45
wanted to really live her life to
9:47
the absolute fullest. According to Kelsey's
9:49
friends she was a type of woman who was always
9:52
dressed to the nines. She always had her hair and
9:54
makeup done and if you were
9:56
to look at her she really was
9:58
just portraying that Instagram influencer. vibe. And
10:01
that actually was important to Kelsey. She wanted
10:03
people to believe that she was living this
10:05
very lavish lifestyle. But
10:08
in reality, Kelsey wasn't actually making that much
10:10
money from modeling and influencing. So she had
10:12
to get creative when it came to funding
10:14
her dream life. Sometimes in
10:16
or around 2017, Kelsey met
10:19
Dr. Thomas Kirk Burchard online.
10:22
Thomas was a much, much older man.
10:24
He was actually pushing 70 when
10:26
he and Kelsey connected. Tom was
10:28
an accomplished child psychiatrist who was
10:31
living in California and working at
10:33
Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
10:35
He was actually the only child psychiatrist
10:37
in that area for a very long
10:40
time. After he got
10:42
his pre-med, he went on to receive
10:44
his medical degree from the University of
10:46
Virginia in 1974. He went
10:48
on to intern in his hometown at
10:50
the Cincinnati Children's Hospital before moving to
10:52
LA to become an adult psychiatry resident
10:55
at a VA hospital. After
10:57
that, he worked as a child psychiatry
10:59
fellow at UCLA and eventually found himself
11:01
at Community Hospital in Monterey. Tom
11:04
lived just a short distance away
11:06
in Salinas, California with his longtime
11:08
girlfriend Judy and her children. Tom
11:11
was known for being a very caring
11:13
and compassionate child psychiatrist. He
11:16
eventually became the director of child and
11:18
family programs and the chairman of the
11:20
psychiatry department at the hospital where he
11:22
worked. And he even taught a few
11:24
classes at a few colleges including UCLA.
11:28
Thomas was known to be really excellent with
11:30
his patients. He would always have buckets of
11:32
candy and snacks for the kids as well
11:34
as piles of books and beanie babies to
11:37
play with. Tom also often performed magic tricks
11:39
with his signature trick being that he could
11:41
turn a one dollar bill into a 100
11:44
dollar bill. I wish I had that
11:46
ability. I know and like isn't this amazing
11:48
how many times can you do it Tom?
11:50
One of Tom's patients even said that going
11:52
to Tom's office was like going to Willy
11:54
Wonka's. But Tom wasn't just
11:57
trying to butter his patients really
12:00
cared about each of them and would often
12:02
go into overtime due to spending so much
12:04
time with his patients and giving them the
12:06
opportunity to be heard out. He
12:09
was also joyful and never seemed like he was in
12:11
a rush. When his
12:13
patients turned 18, Tom would actually continue to
12:15
see them if they wanted. One
12:17
of his patients' fathers said that Tom was
12:19
the nicest man you could have ever met.
12:21
He did so much for his patients, including
12:23
buying food and school supplies for them and
12:26
even helping pay their families rent. Even
12:28
when Tom hit retirement age at 65, he
12:31
didn't completely retire, he just cut his hours
12:33
down and started working a four-day week. He
12:36
just didn't want to leave his patients. So
12:39
we don't know the full details about
12:42
exactly how or why Tom got into
12:44
contact with a 20-something-year-old model and Instagram
12:46
influencer, but we can assume that it
12:48
was likely through one of Kelsey Turner's
12:50
social media accounts. Although
12:52
Tom was in a committed relationship with Judy
12:54
and had helped raise her children and later
12:56
played a role in her grandson's life, he
12:59
actually had this history of befriending younger women online
13:01
who were down on their luck and just needed
13:03
a leg up. He would give them
13:05
money to help them take care of themselves. Judy
13:08
was aware of all this. She
13:11
later said she thought Tom got a huge
13:13
ego boost from doing this and said she
13:15
really didn't feel threatened by his relationship with
13:17
Kelsey. She said
13:19
that Tom had given money to around six women
13:21
over the course of their relationship, but it was
13:24
done to a greater extent when it came to
13:26
Kelsey. Judy
13:28
said Tom was overly compassionate just as a
13:30
person and all he ever wanted to do
13:32
was help people. He
13:34
believed everyone could be good and
13:37
no one is intrinsically bad, and
13:39
that's something Judy didn't necessarily agree
13:41
with. She believed there were people
13:43
out there who would take advantage of Tom and
13:45
his generosity. After meeting Kelsey
13:47
online, Tom exchanged numerous emails with her and
13:49
got to know her as a single mom
13:52
who was suffering financial hardships and just needed
13:54
a little boost to get back on her
13:56
feet. She told Tom
13:58
she didn't have any credit and so therefore she
14:00
wasn't able to rent a place by herself. So
14:03
Tom agreed to sign the lease on a home that
14:05
cost $3200 a month
14:07
in Salinas. Judy
14:09
warned Tom that things could go south really quickly
14:11
if Kelsey didn't hold up her into the deal
14:13
and pay this $3200 a month rent and it
14:16
would fall on Tom's
14:19
responsibility to take care of it if that
14:21
happened. But Tom didn't listen
14:24
and that is what ended up happening.
14:26
Tom started paying the rent for Kelsey and
14:29
then later when she told him that she
14:31
needed a car he either loaned or bought
14:33
a BMW for her to drive. It
14:36
got to a point where Kelsey just kept having
14:38
all these things that she needed and only Tom
14:40
was able to help her with them. Rather
14:43
than being humble and grateful for everything that he had
14:45
already done for her, she started
14:48
acting entitled and started demanding
14:50
things. She was
14:52
constantly expecting Tom to pay for everything
14:54
and I mean expensive things or just
14:57
simply give her money. Over
15:00
the course of two years Tom
15:02
gave Kelsey over $500,000 for things
15:05
like prescription drugs, money, rent and
15:07
access to cars. Eventually
15:10
this turned into a full-on what you
15:12
could call a sugar daddy type of
15:14
relationship where their interactions were both intimate
15:17
and transactional. Tom
15:19
became obsessed with Kelsey and according to his friends
15:21
he was willing to do whatever it took to
15:23
keep her in his life. He
15:26
even told his friends that his
15:28
feelings for Kelsey made him understand
15:30
how heroin addicts must feel which
15:32
that's a strong way to describe
15:35
how you feel about someone. And
15:37
coming from this psychiatrist who literally knows
15:39
what that means it's not just any
15:41
old person saying that like he's really
15:44
in this he's really obsessed
15:46
with her. Yes. Kelsey
15:49
of course was also invested in the relationship
15:51
but definitely not for the same reasons. She
15:53
had become dependent on the money Tom was
15:56
supplying for her lavish lifestyle and
15:58
as we mentioned before this was something that was was
16:00
really important to her and it was
16:02
a key factor in being able to
16:04
portray herself as the ultimate influencer. And
16:07
boy do we have so much more to get into
16:10
after a quick break to hear a word from this
16:12
week's influencer. If
16:21
you've been looking for a brand for personalized
16:23
kids clothes, check out one that we found
16:25
and we love called Cade and Lane. I
16:28
am absolutely obsessed and that's because their clothes
16:30
are not only adorable, but they're so flippin'
16:32
buttery soft right out of the package. While
16:35
Mandy and I don't have little, little ones
16:37
anymore, we can certainly remember those days and
16:39
appreciate the quality of Cade and Lane. With
16:42
over 70,000 five star reviews and millions of
16:44
customers, you don't have to just take our
16:46
word for it. Cade and Lane was started
16:48
back in 2005 by a single mom who
16:50
wanted just that. Bettering cuter
16:53
clothes, accessories, as well as keepsakes for
16:55
her own kids. And oh
16:57
my gosh, did we mention how cute the
16:59
clothes are. Seriously, I could spend hours on
17:01
the site just looking at matching mommy and
17:04
me hospital sets or the adorable color me
17:06
pajamas, which are exactly what they sound like.
17:08
Pajamas your little one can color on with
17:10
washable markers. Keeping kids busy for
17:12
hours. And with summer coming up, you have to
17:14
check out their worry free fun in the sun.
17:17
Not only are their bathing suits really beyond adorable,
17:19
but they can also keep your little ones
17:21
sensitive skin safe with their UPF
17:23
50 plus sun protection somewhere that
17:25
blocks 98%
17:27
of harmful UVA and UVB rays. This
17:29
means sunscreen fights have gotten a whole
17:31
lot easier. I so wish
17:34
I knew about Cade and Lane when my
17:36
kids were little, but the next best thing
17:38
is getting some for my little niece, Nora.
17:40
Nora, what's your favorite part of your Cade
17:42
and Lane loop? I really like the peaches
17:44
because they're soft and you can color on
17:46
them. Cade and Lane is your

18:05
Life is all about compromise, and if
18:07
you're in a relationship or if you
18:10
have siblings, you know that first hand.
18:12
And while there are times you have to
18:14
compromise, like when you have to drink Pepsi,
18:16
when there isn't diet coke available, when it
18:18
comes to your health, there's really no compromise.
18:21
Everyone has doctors office horror stories, and if
18:23
you want to avoid those altogether, check
18:25
out ZocDoc. ZocDoc is an amazing place
18:27
to find and book doctors who not only make
18:29
you feel comfortable, but listen to you
18:31
as well as prioritizing your health. ZocDoc
18:33
is a free app and website where
18:36
you can search and compare highly rated,
18:38
in-network doctors near you and instantly book
18:40
appointments with them online. Honestly,
18:42
booking your own appointments online is one of
18:44
my very favorite features. That and
18:46
being able to read real patient reviews to let
18:48
me know exactly what kind of doctor I'm getting
18:50
ready to see. When you're looking to schedule a
18:53
doctor's appointment, it's not really because of something fun
18:55
going on in your life. And
18:57
while we do have things like annual checks, most
18:59
appointments we're making are for things like being
19:01
sick, or you're in pain, or you're just
19:03
concerned about something. Which means you're
19:05
already anxious leading up to this appointment. ZocDoc
19:08
really takes that away by allowing you to read
19:10
these real patient reviews and also be able to
19:12
filter for things like the type of doctor or
19:14
specialist you need, as well as what insurance they
19:16
take, and you can typically be seen within 24
19:18
to 72 hours. I
19:21
loved it when I was looking to schedule an
19:23
E&T appointment for my daughter. I was able to
19:25
do all of that online without ever having to
19:27
have an awkward chat with a receptionist. I was
19:29
able to read the reviews and choose a
19:31
doctor that was just a few miles from
19:34
me that took our insurance and we actually
19:36
love. I use this and you should too.
19:38

19:52
And now back to the episode. So
19:58
before the break we were discussing a little about
20:00
Dr. Thomas Bouchard's background and
20:02
sort of how he's met Kelsey
20:04
and just the beginnings of this
20:06
relationship they had with one another
20:08
that ended up, as
20:10
Mandy said before, kind of in a little
20:13
bit of a sugar daddy situation. So the
20:15
longer this went on and the more Tom
20:17
provided for Kelsey, his girlfriend Judy began to
20:19
see the signs that Kelsey was just not
20:21
a good person and she was only concerned
20:24
about Tom's money. The Tom really
20:26
had blinders on and he refused to see it.
20:29
Judy later claimed that Kelsey had
20:31
done some very shady things like
20:33
forging Tom's signature on checks and
20:35
even stealing from him. Judy
20:37
finally had enough of this and in the early fall of
20:40
2018, she told Tom
20:42
that it was time to completely cut Chelsea
20:44
off. Well, this didn't go
20:46
over very well with Kelsey. When
20:48
Tom tells her that they have to end
20:50
their relationship, Kelsey sends a text where she
20:53
actually threatens to kill Judy. Nevertheless,
20:55
Tom stops paying the rent on Kelsey's home
20:58
and he informed the landlord that he would
21:00
not be making any further payments. He
21:02
also at this time takes back her
21:04
BMW. So when Kelsey doesn't
21:06
pay the rent for three months in a row
21:09
and Tom doesn't help her do that, the landlord
21:11
finally evicts her. At
21:13
this point, Judy just wants to get Kelsey
21:15
as far out of the picture as possible.
21:17
So she actually suggested to Tom that he
21:19
could pay for her to relocate to Las
21:22
Vegas, which is a good place for her
21:24
to do modeling as well as it's eight
21:26
hours away from Tom. How fed
21:28
up do you have to be to be like, can
21:30
you just relocate her to another state? I
21:33
know, and you know, she's thinking like, I don't even
21:35
think Las Vegas is far enough. Like she wants it
21:37
to be forever, but like that would
21:39
be enticing to somebody that's Instagram modeling
21:42
and influencer. Las Vegas actually makes a lot
21:44
of sense, right? So Tom
21:46
agrees to this. In December of 2018, he
21:48
paid for Kelsey and her son to rent
21:50
a four bedroom house in Las Vegas. This
21:53
was supposed to be the final end
21:55
of their relationship. And Tom tried to stay
21:57
out of her life, but Kelsey was really-
22:00
relentless and she kept texting Tom
22:02
and you know saying she needed
22:04
more money for literally everything. So
22:07
Tom continues to give money
22:09
to Kelsey and he even buys her a
22:11
new Mercedes to replace the BMW that he
22:14
had taken back months earlier. So
22:16
Kelsey was very brazen
22:19
with this and she had no problem
22:21
rubbing it in Judy's face. She actually
22:23
sends a text to Judy with her
22:25
picture in the Mercedes and
22:27
said quote, thanks for taking the BMW.
22:30
I look better in the bins anyway
22:32
and then she followed that by three
22:35
middle finger emoji. So poor
22:37
Judy like what did Judy even do?
22:39
She just exist. She hasn't even done
22:41
anything to Kelsey. I mean she is
22:44
Tom's girlfriend. They
22:46
live together like just the
22:48
audacity of this happening
22:50
and this girl being like rubbing it in her
22:52
face and saying all these things like what Judy
22:55
even do she did nothing. Nothing. Meanwhile
22:57
Kelsey invited multiple roommates to live with her
22:59
and her son in the Vegas house despite
23:01
telling Tom that the house was just for
23:03
herself and her kid. But I
23:05
kind of wonder because it's a four bedroom house.
23:08
She did not need a four bedroom house. Okay.
23:10
Well one could argue that just because she needs
23:12
a car she also doesn't need a BMW or a
23:14
Mercedes. It seems like Tom just wanted
23:16
to give her not just help her but also
23:18
help her with the best of
23:20
things. Right. Okay. Good
23:23
point because I'm like right there that tells me some things up
23:25
but you're right. So Kelsey actually
23:27
had a boyfriend named John Kennison who
23:29
went by Logan who was
23:32
actually living there as well as a friend
23:34
named Diana Pena and another man whose name
23:36
is not important because he really has little
23:38
to do with the rest of the story.
23:41
So Tom didn't know about this guy
23:43
Logan at all and he certainly didn't
23:45
know that he was a former gang
23:47
member who had been previously in prison.
23:50
In 2016 Logan pleaded guilty to conspiracy
23:52
to violate the Uniform Controlled Substances Act
23:54
and was sentenced to serve between 12
23:56
and 32 months followed by no
24:00
more than three years of probation. He
24:02
was released in August of 2018. So
24:06
Kelsey continued to demand financial support from
24:08
Tom and just would not stop asking,
24:10
even though Tom repeatedly pointed out how
24:13
much money he had already given her
24:15
at that point. Tom's
24:17
friend said he was having a really tough
24:19
time getting away from her and being able
24:21
to put really any distance between the two
24:23
of them. But by February of 2019, he
24:27
was ready to fully break things off because
24:29
he couldn't afford to
24:31
keep paying for Kelsey's lavish
24:33
lifestyle anymore. Later
24:36
in February, Kelsey contacted Tom and told him
24:38
that she was sick and she wasn't able
24:40
to take care of her son. At
24:44
this point, Tom is feeling
24:46
like he's being had
24:48
and I mean, he
24:50
wants to go out there and see for himself what's really
24:53
going on. So he told Kelsey that he
24:55
was gonna come out to Vegas and visit and
24:57
really he just wants to go there and see
24:59
if she's telling the truth, what's
25:02
going on in this house that he's paying for, just all
25:04
of it, he hasn't seen any of it in person. When
25:07
Kelsey finds out that Tom's going to come to Las Vegas,
25:10
she panicked because keep in mind, she
25:12
has this house full of roommates and
25:14
also that secret boyfriend that Tom isn't
25:16
aware of. So she tells
25:18
all of her roommates not to tell Tom
25:20
that Logan actually was her boyfriend. Instead, they
25:22
were supposed to tell Tom that Logan was
25:24
her tattoo artist
25:27
that just lives with her. But
25:30
also that's a frivolous thing to
25:33
even, you know what I
25:35
mean? If I'm this person and I'm thinking, I
25:37
would say cousin or something, but tattoo artist
25:40
says, this is another person you're
25:42
paying money to, Tom. That's
25:44
a whole other industry, for sure. So
25:47
without even telling Judy that he was leaving,
25:49
Tom flew out to Vegas on March 1st. He
25:52
called Judy after he landed and told her what
25:54
was going on. And he said Kelsey was just
25:56
such a pervasive liar, he had to go out
25:59
and talk to him. out there and see things for
26:01
himself. Judy got
26:03
a really bad feeling about all of this and asked
26:05
Tom to just get on the next plane and come
26:07
back home. But Tom chose to stay in Vegas and
26:09
try to get to the bottom of everything that
26:11
was going on. He was supposed to
26:14
return to California on March 4. On
26:17
March 2, Tom texted Judy, saying
26:19
he was excited to come home, and he
26:21
thought things had been resolved with Kelsey,
26:23
meaning the ties
26:25
have been cut and everything is going to
26:28
be fine. But after
26:30
this text, Tom stopped replying to Judy,
26:32
and he wouldn't answer her calls. The
26:35
following day, March 3, Judy texted Tom and
26:37
asked why he wasn't answering his phone. She
26:39
did get a reply that said, I'm out
26:42
to lunch. But really, this was just not
26:44
an acceptable answer to Judy. She said, you
26:46
know, she's been with Tom for a long
26:48
time. She said he wasn't the type to
26:50
ignore calls while he was having lunch. And
26:53
when that was the response that she
26:55
got, it just gave her this sinking
26:57
feeling that whoever had sent that reply
26:59
wasn't Tom. But she sent
27:01
back another text asking, you know, why it
27:03
was a problem to take a call at lunch
27:05
when it had never been an issue before. And
27:08
then she got another response indicating
27:10
that Tom needed to charge his
27:12
phone. And after that, the
27:14
phone was turned off. And Judy's continued
27:16
texts and calls went unanswered. Later
27:20
on March 3, Judy called the police in
27:22
Las Vegas and asked them to conduct a
27:24
welfare check at Kelsey's house. Officers
27:27
did go to the home, but they were unable
27:29
to make contact with anyone inside. So there was
27:31
really nothing more for them to do. I don't
27:34
fully understand this. Because if I send the police
27:36
to your house to check on you and no
27:38
one answers the door, that's the reason I want
27:40
them there to check on you, right? I
27:43
thought that way. I
27:46
don't understand. I guess I don't really understand how
27:48
police welfare checks work. If anybody would
27:50
like to explain that to us, please. One person.
27:53
Just one. Talk amongst yourselves and pick
27:55
one representative to email us. Because yeah, I would
27:57
think, I mean, I get why they can't. Because
27:59
obviously. What if people just aren't home the police
28:01
can't just go burst the going on because someone's how's
28:04
it has says that they mean the in out and
28:06
do to be checked up on. but I do kind
28:08
of feel like it is kind of a weird thing
28:10
right? Some like. That's. My point of
28:12
this re if I said I was worried about
28:14
you and sent the police to check on you
28:16
in they said she didn't answer the door, I'd be
28:18
like. Yeah. I know nothing about. Exactly
28:22
Yeah No I agree with you I think they have
28:24
to have some okay at be wrong by think they
28:26
have to have something more like see something in the
28:29
window or whatever to be able to do that but
28:31
I understand like both sides of a you don't want
28:33
yeah doing into your house but then also what do
28:35
you do when you can get hold of them. Etti
28:38
right? To. The next day should
28:40
have been when Thomas flying home to
28:42
California, but Tom still wasn't answering. Do
28:44
these texts or calls. Duty.
28:46
Ghosts of the Airport any way to meet
28:48
him since she knew about this fight home,
28:50
but it became clear that something was terribly
28:52
wrong with Tom. Never got off the plane
28:54
and the front desk agent told you to
28:57
eat that he never checked him for his
28:59
flight. Judy immediately called the Las Vegas Police
29:01
and reported her missing. So. Officers
29:03
go back to kill his house again
29:05
in to conduct a welfare check, but
29:08
once again they're unable to contact anyone
29:10
inside. On. March Fifth Officers
29:12
went to the house again even though nobody
29:14
answered the door, Officers did notice all the
29:16
lights were on inside the house. in the
29:19
blinds were up there with mail that was
29:21
piled up the mailbox and a package sitting
29:23
at the front door. The. Officers
29:25
walked into the backyard and saw some
29:28
windows open said a peek inside. That's
29:30
when he noticed sides of a struggle when
29:33
they looked in and since the front door
29:35
was unlocked they went ahead and made entry
29:37
into the home so sounds like we answered
29:39
room question one cel I simply cannot have
29:42
read some it going to nobody was inside
29:44
the house but it reach of ammonia and
29:46
they were cleaning supplies scattered in every room.
29:49
They believe that this looks like everyone
29:51
had just. Abruptly left us
29:53
residents. After. two more
29:55
days have no answers las vegas police got
29:57
a name of one call on the morning
30:00
of march seventh that would finally shed light
30:02
on what happened to Tom. In
30:04
a very rural area of the
30:06
desert off State Route 147, a
30:09
man spotted an abandoned Mercedes. This
30:12
is the type of area where you're
30:14
driving not Mercedes, you're driving four by
30:16
fours, you're driving trucks, you're driving ATVs,
30:18
that sort of thing like you're off
30:20
the beaten path, right? Vehicles meant to
30:22
be off-road for sure. Right, but all
30:24
that to say that there's no reason
30:26
you'd bring a Mercedes out here. Not
30:28
only would it get banged up, it
30:30
can't really make it out there. So
30:33
the man who finds this car was actually
30:35
out there testing out a new Trekky bot,
30:37
which makes sense. So patrol
30:39
officers agree that some sort of crime has
30:41
been committed, so they go out to the
30:43
deserted area and found a blue 2017 Mercedes
30:47
Benz C300 two-door coupe with
30:49
a California license plate. The
30:52
windows were rolled down to the car, but no one was
30:54
in the car. It appeared that
30:57
whoever was driving had actually gotten stuck on
30:59
a pile of rocks where they're trying to
31:01
move it behind a mound, like to conceal
31:03
it better. And when it didn't
31:06
make it there, they just up and
31:08
left it where it got stuck. When police
31:10
ran the license plate on this car, they
31:12
learned that it was registered to a person
31:14
in San Francisco and the vehicle had not
31:16
been reported stolen. They were able to use
31:18
the push start ignition to start the car
31:20
and they opened the trunk just to see
31:22
what was inside. Upon
31:24
opening the trunk, officers smelled a foul
31:27
odor and noticed a bunch of clothes,
31:29
bedding, and just other random things inside
31:31
the trunk. When
31:33
they started moving the stuff to the side, they saw
31:35
what appeared to be a human body part.
31:39
Crime scene investigators came to assist and
31:41
take over the investigation, and they found
31:44
tire impressions and footprints at the scene
31:46
around the Mercedes. Inside
31:49
the car, there were several latex gloves
31:51
and evidence of a small fire having
31:53
occurred on the front passenger seat. It
31:56
appeared that this was an attempt to light the entire
31:58
car on fire, but the fire had actually
32:00
extinguished itself before it caught
32:02
and was able to do that. Blood
32:05
was found on the driver's seat headrest and in
32:07
the back seat. There was
32:10
also small tears in the headliner that were
32:12
noted. All
32:14
signs pointed to a violent attack taking
32:16
place inside the car. The
32:19
Mercedes was towed to the crime lab for a
32:21
more thorough inspection. Everything
32:23
was removed from the trunk and that's when
32:25
investigators found the body of an older white
32:28
man with intense trauma to his head. The
32:31
body was soon identified as being that
32:33
of Dr. Thomas Burchard who investigators learned
32:36
had been reported missing by his
32:38
girlfriend Judy days earlier. A
32:41
medical examiner determined that Thomas died from blunt
32:43
force trauma to the head and ruled his
32:45
manner of death a homicide. He
32:48
was apparently struck multiple times with an
32:50
unknown object that left a unique pattern.
32:54
His body also had several defensive
32:56
wounds. Several
32:58
items of evidence were recovered from the
33:00
Mercedes including latent prints, swabs
33:03
of possible DNA, blue latex gloves
33:05
with blood on them, clothing with
33:07
blood on it, Thomas's vest and
33:09
house keys, a blue and white
33:11
striped bath towel and a baseball
33:13
bat. There were also
33:15
cleaning supplies in the car and it looked as
33:17
though someone had attempted a cleanup. The
33:20
blood evidence suggested that Thomas was attacked in
33:22
the vehicle but it was unclear if the
33:24
attack started inside the car or if it
33:27
was started outside the car and then continued inside
33:29
the car. The
33:31
blood evidence also showed that Thomas's body was
33:33
likely removed through the passenger door and then
33:35
placed in the trunk. At
33:38
first they thought the baseball bat was the murder
33:40
weapon but then they realized that was way too
33:42
big to be used inside the car so they
33:44
were sure there was a different item used in
33:46
the attack. The latent prints
33:49
they recovered were then sent off for
33:51
analysis and hopefully to be identified. And
33:54
we have so much more to get into after one last
33:56
break to hear a word from this week's sponsors.
34:07
February is the month for chocolate, or
34:09
love, or eating chocolate that you love.
34:11
But besides chocolate, one thing I do love is
34:14
a comfortable bra. And today's sponsor,
34:16
Honeylove, is the love of my life when
34:18
it comes to revolutionizing the bra game. Say
34:20
bye-bye to underwire in that bulky fabric that
34:22
just feels like you've put yourself into an
34:25
oven and say hello to supportive bonding that
34:27
means no underwire while still giving you a
34:29
lift. And if you're set up with those
34:31
delightful quirks of some bras like the bulge
34:34
that spilled over in the back, Honeylove's got
34:36

the comfort of just one Honeylove bra,

I had to buy a second. I
35:01
recently got one in the color Fig,
35:03
which is just a really beautiful purplish
35:05
reddish color with this mesh detailing that's
35:08
missing from other supportive bras. It
35:10
really feels like you aren't even wearing a
35:12
bra, which should be the goal of all

that. From everyday looks to workouts

37:02
Before 2023, the only thing I
37:04
could tell you about Magnesium was that it was
37:06
on the periodic table of elements. And to be
37:08
honest, I don't know that I was 100% sure
37:11
about that either. But recently, the benefits
37:13
of Magnesium have come up a lot,
37:15
making me very excited to talk about
37:17
this week's sponsor, Magnesium Breakthrough. Raise
37:19
your hand if you wake up every day feeling like you're
37:21
in a bit of a fog. I see
37:24
those hands. And you aren't alone, I'm actually one
37:26
of those hands that's being raised. There's
37:28
nothing worse than waking up, thinking you're going
37:30
to be nice and refreshed, only to feel
37:32
quite the opposite. For me, taking Magnesium
37:34
Breakthrough has proven to be a fantastic
37:37
way for me to calm my mind.
37:39
Beyond its calming effects, this supplement has
37:41
also contributed to support bone density, which
37:43
as someone in premenopause has to think
37:45
about, as well as aiding
37:48
muscle recovery. But what
37:50
you might not know is that not all
37:52
Magnesium supplements are created equal. I've
37:54
discovered that there are seven forms of
37:57
Magnesium, and while most supplements contain one
37:59
or two, magnesium breakthrough
38:01
contains all seven. What's
38:04
really crazy is that most of us,
38:06
almost 75% of us actually,
38:08
are magnesium deficient and if
38:10
you're taking just any other magnesium you're
38:12
not getting all seven that magnesium breakthrough
38:14
can give you. Nurture your mind and
38:16
body with this all-natural full-spectrum
38:18
magnesium supplement. Simply go

38:27
And now
38:29
back to the other side. So
38:35
before the break we were discussing what's
38:37
gone on between Thomas and Kelsey and
38:39
their relationship and at this point police
38:41
have found Thomas's body in the trunk
38:43
of a Mercedes way
38:45
out off-road you know where no
38:48
one really is. And
38:50
so as soon as Judy gets this devastating
38:52
news that Thomas has been found murdered she
38:54
tells police look at Kelsey
38:56
Turner she really believed that she was
38:59
involved. So Judy tells investigators about how
39:01
Tom has been given Kelsey money and
39:03
taking care of her rent and her
39:05
car but she doesn't elaborate on
39:07
the full nature of their relationship. On March
39:09
8th a search warrant for Kelsey's home was
39:11
obtained and investigators were able to recover several
39:13
items of evidence from the house. One
39:16
such piece of evidence was a white and
39:18
blue striped towel that matched the towel that
39:20
was removed from the trunk of the Mercedes.
39:23
Additionally one of the bedroom doors to an upstairs
39:26
bedroom appeared to have been ripped off
39:28
the hinges and broken into two pieces.
39:31
Both halves of these doors had a lot of
39:33
blood on them. In
39:35
the garage more blood was found along
39:37
with shoe impressions cleaning supplies and further
39:39
evidence of a cleanup. Officers
39:42
were able to trace Kelsey's cell phone to
39:44
find out more about her location and
39:46
movements from February 7th to March
39:48
8th. And they found out that her cell
39:50
phone was primarily in the area of her
39:53
house with some variants from March 1st to
39:55
March 5th. On March 5th
39:57
her phone appeared to be away from the house. And
40:00
then after 5.20 PM on March 6th, her
40:02
phone left the area of her home and it
40:05
never returned. This was interesting
40:07
because Thomas had just paid her rent
40:09
on March 1st and her lease wasn't
40:11
gonna be over until June of 2019.
40:14
So it doesn't make any sense why Kelsey
40:16
having her rent being paid already would just
40:18
up and leave. So her cell phone data
40:20
shows that on March 7th, her
40:23
phone was powered off and never turned back on
40:25
again. Officers also noted that
40:27
her phone was shut off after news broke
40:29
that Thomas's body had been found. By
40:32
March 12th, police had learned more information
40:34
about the Mercedes that Thomas was found
40:36
in. As we mentioned, the car was
40:38
registered to someone in San Francisco, but
40:40
it hadn't been reported stolen. So
40:43
as it turned out, the owner of the car actually
40:45
lived in China. So this guy had
40:47
placed a Craigslist ad asking for
40:49
someone to take over his car payments and
40:51
he showed documents proving that Kelsey Turner is
40:53
the one who agreed to take over these
40:56
payments. She actually paid $2,500 down to
40:58
the owner and
41:00
he even agreed to put her on his
41:02
insurance and she would pay him $542 a
41:04
month until
41:06
the loan was paid off. Obviously,
41:08
we know Kelsey wasn't paying this,
41:10
but Tom was. Either
41:13
way, this told officers that the Mercedes did
41:15
in fact belong to Kelsey Turner and it
41:17
had been in her possession for months. And
41:21
of course, the fact that she hasn't reported
41:23
it stolen or missing is highly suspicious. Thomas's
41:25
phone records were reviewed on March 12th
41:27
and investigators found that his phone had
41:30
no outgoing voice calls or text messages
41:32
after March 3rd, which narrowed down the
41:34
date of his murder to sometime between
41:36
March 3rd and March 6th, which we
41:38
already knew. By
41:40
March 13th, Kelsey's phone still hadn't been turned
41:42
back on and she had still not returned
41:44
to the house that she was
41:46
living in. So investigators
41:48
believed she had gone into hiding after
41:50
she found out Thomas's body was discovered
41:53
and they also believed that she was
41:55
responsible for his murder. They
41:57
issued an open murder warrant for her arrest
42:00
to work trying to find her. It
42:02
took them a week, but finally on March 21st, FBI
42:05
agents tracked her down in Stockton, California, where
42:08
she was found in a house in a
42:10
semi-industrial area close to a railroad track, and
42:12
she had her four-year-old son with her. Upon
42:16
her arrest, Kelsey revealed that she was
42:18
actually pregnant with her second baby, which
42:21
of course really complicates matters, and this ended
42:23
up leading to some issues with getting her
42:25
extradited back to Vegas, so that was put
42:27
on hold. When
42:29
Kelsey walked into the interrogation room
42:32
to meet with the lead detective,
42:34
she allegedly acted very seductively towards
42:36
the officer up until the
42:38
moment that they read her rights to her,
42:40
and then she became emotionless and said she
42:42
wanted a lawyer. So Kelsey's dad could
42:45
not believe what his daughter was going through,
42:47
and he told the Californian that she had
42:49
been falsely accused. He said she
42:51
was a great person and a wonderful and loving
42:53
mother. He also created a
42:56
GoFundMe to raise money for Kelsey's legal defense, where
42:58
he wrote that Kelsey had always gone out of
43:00
her way to help others, and now she was
43:02
the one who needed help herself. He
43:04
was trying to raise $50,000, but
43:07
the GoFundMe was actually taken down within a few
43:09
days. The most
43:11
obvious question on everyone's minds was whether or
43:13
not Kelsey could have pulled this off on
43:15
her own. Tom was
43:17
almost six feet tall and weighed about 250 pounds. It
43:21
did not seem likely at all that Kelsey could
43:23
have killed him and moved his body to the
43:25
trunk of the car without someone helping her. Meanwhile,
43:29
results from some of the forensic tests were
43:31
starting to trickle in, and it was learned
43:33
that the latent prints found in the car
43:36
belonged to two of Kelsey's roommates. One
43:38
of them was her boyfriend Logan, and
43:40
the other was the girl named Diana
43:42
Pina. They were
43:44
able to identify their prints because Diana's were
43:46
actually already on file due to having worked
43:48
at Caesar's Palace, which I didn't even think
43:50
of that, but it makes sense that the
43:53
casinos would fingerprint you and run
43:55
a background check before you're allowed to work in a casino.
43:58
And Logan's were on file because of course, we
44:00
said he had a prior criminal record so he was
44:02
really easy to identify. Further investigation
44:04
revealed that Diana had not shown up
44:06
for her job since March 6th and both
44:08
she and Logan's phones had also been
44:10
shut off since around the same time
44:12
Kelsey's went dark. They
44:15
did find out that Diana checked into a
44:17
hotel room at the Rio on March 4th
44:20
so officers went to the Rio and
44:22
they searched and ended up finding five
44:24
pieces of paper that had Tom's
44:26
name on them that had actually been
44:29
removed from his planner where he
44:31
kept financial notes and password information. They
44:34
also found prescription bottles belonging to
44:36
Diana as well as Kelsey's driver's
44:38
license and this led them to
44:40
believe that all three of the suspects had been staying
44:42
in this hotel room together. Warrens
44:45
were issued for the arrests of Diana and
44:48
Logan on April 5th. They
44:50
were also charged with open murder and
44:52
then at the same time Kelsey had
44:54
an added charge of conspiracy thrown on
44:56
top. Officers
44:58
began searching for all three of them. On
45:01
April 13th Diana surrendered herself to the
45:03
police and gave a full confession about
45:05
the events that involved Thomas's murder. Diana
45:08
said that on March 2nd after she
45:10
finished her bartending shift at Caesars Palace
45:13
she asked Kelsey for a ride. When
45:15
Kelsey showed up Tom was in the car with
45:17
her. Tom was actually driving
45:19
the car but they ended up getting lost on
45:21
the way back to the house so he gave
45:24
his phone to Kelsey so she could pull up
45:26
the GPS. Kelsey started
45:28
looking through his phone and found
45:30
messages between her mom and Tom
45:33
so he's been in contact with
45:35
Kelsey's mother. These messages actually included
45:37
talk about possibly having Kelsey's son
45:39
taken away. So after
45:41
Kelsey saw these messages she started attacking
45:44
Tom. She was hitting and kicking him
45:46
while they were still inside the car.
45:49
So when they arrived back at
45:51
Kelsey's house the conflict continued to
45:53
escalate. Kelsey actually threatened to report
45:55
Tom to his employer for allegedly
45:57
having child sex abuse materials on his
45:59
phone. That was absolutely not
46:01
on there. She was just making that
46:03
kind of threat because imagine what that
46:05
would do to his whole entire life
46:07
if someone actually thought that. So
46:10
Diana, who was at the house while this fight
46:12
was going on, said that Tom seemed confused and
46:15
he just kept telling Kelsey that he loved her
46:17
and didn't know why she was acting that way.
46:21
Diana ended up having another trusted friend come
46:23
over to pick up Kelsey's son when it
46:25
became clear that this fight was getting really
46:27
out of hand. So
46:29
Tom tries to give Kelsey some space by going
46:31
up to the room where he had been sleeping
46:33
and just closing the door. But Kelsey
46:35
comes up and she continues yelling at him.
46:39
Eventually her boyfriend Logan joined in on the
46:41
screaming and the yelling. He seemingly
46:43
was getting more and more riled up the
46:45
more Kelsey went on. So
46:47
at some point Logan broke down the
46:50
door and began assaulting Tom with a
46:52
baseball bat. At this point
46:54
Diana started screaming for them to stop and begging
46:56
the rest of the group to calm down. Diana
46:59
said she noticed a big red and
47:01
purple bruise on Tom's right temple. Diana
47:05
then took the bat from Logan and managed to persuade
47:07
him to ease up on Tom. Diana
47:10
also urged them to take Tom to the
47:12
hospital and they said they would. Tom
47:15
got rinsed off in a bathroom and then he waited
47:17
in the back of Kelsey's car for a ride to
47:19
the hospital. Tom said
47:21
that he planned on saying he'd been
47:23
mugged so Kelsey wouldn't face any legal
47:25
trouble. So after Tom was already
47:27
in the car he decided that he
47:30
wanted his jacket so Kelsey and Logan go
47:32
inside to get it. While
47:34
they're inside taking forever to return
47:36
the jacket Tom said to Diana
47:38
quote, you know they're going to kill me. Which
47:41
I can't imagine hearing that or saying
47:43
that but just terrible. But this is after
47:45
you've already been beat in the head with
47:47
a baseball bat and so like I can't
47:49
imagine how terrified he must have been and
47:51
also thinking like these are the same people
47:53
that are supposed to take me to the
47:55
hospital. Yeah like that all of that is
47:57
just very just upsetting to think about that
47:59
whole. scene unfolding at that house
48:01
in that garage. Yeah. So
48:04
when Kelsey and Logan came back, they told
48:06
Diana to go upstairs and clean up the
48:08
mess they had made during this big site
48:10
they had in the bedroom while Tom stayed
48:12
behind in the garage. Diana
48:15
went inside the house and very
48:17
shortly after that, the next thing
48:19
she heard was Kelsey screaming and
48:21
swearing at Logan and demanding that
48:23
he knock Thomas out. So
48:26
Diana runs back to the garage telling
48:28
Kelsey, you know, trying to tell Kelsey
48:30
that they need to stop, but Kelsey
48:32
actually came into the house as Diana
48:34
was going back out there and told
48:36
Diana that it was too late. Tom
48:38
was already dead. Logan
48:41
soon emerged from the garage covered in
48:43
blood, including blood splatter on his face.
48:45
In his hand was a blood soaked gun,
48:47
which he had just used to beat Tom
48:49
to death with while Kelsey egged him on.
48:53
Diana was in utter shock and at that moment
48:55
she feared for her own life as well. She
48:58
thought if she didn't just do what they said
49:00
and help them clean up, they would beat her
49:02
to death too. I can't
49:04
imagine seeing
49:07
that like the site of Logan coming in covered
49:09
in blood. I mean, and what like no
49:11
one knows how they would react in that situation. Of
49:14
course, everyone would be like, Oh, you run away and
49:16
call the police, but you can see
49:18
how like your brain is not wired
49:20
to process what's going on that quickly
49:22
in that type of a situation. So Diana
49:24
ended up just, as I said, going
49:26
inside and kind of autopilot. She like
49:28
just went and started doing things around
49:30
the house. She
49:33
later fled with Logan and Kelsey and
49:35
Kelsey son to go to this hotel
49:37
room and they left Tom's body in
49:39
the car at the house. At
49:42
some point, Logan went and disposed of Tom's phone
49:44
and rounded up a few of his buddies to
49:46
go with him to abandon the Mercedes in the
49:48
desert. He told Kelsey
49:51
and Diana he had lit the car on fire,
49:53
but clearly that didn't work out as planned. As
49:55
we said, there was evidence of a fire being
49:57
started, but it didn't catch. Diana,
50:00
Kelsey and Logan, and Kelsey's son all
50:02
stayed in this hotel room together until
50:05
Tom's body was discovered, and when they found out
50:07
it had been discovered, they immediately left and
50:09
went to a different motel. Then
50:12
they briefly stayed with friends before someone drove
50:14
them to California. Diana
50:16
said she eventually convinced Kelsey and Logan to let
50:18
her go back to Vegas and said that she
50:20
had a friend who could get her a job
50:22
without an ID. Kelsey
50:25
and Logan did let Diana go back, but they
50:27
warned her that they would be watching her, but
50:30
Diana really didn't care. She immediately turned herself
50:32
into the police and told them her story
50:34
as soon as she got back to Vegas.
50:38
Diana agreed to testify in front of a grand
50:40
jury, and then she pleaded guilty to being an
50:42
accessory to murder. She
50:44
was released on her own recognizance, but
50:47
she faced up to five years in prison. Her
50:50
fate wouldn't end up being decided though until after
50:52
Kelsey and Logan went through the court system.
50:55
Logan was arrested at his mom's house in Las Vegas
50:57
on April 17th. He
50:59
pleaded not guilty to all charges. During
51:02
his arraignment, he flashed Kelsey a note that read,
51:05
this is just, just know I'm
51:07
rolling my eyes as I say this, love
51:09
you, low mama. The
51:12
important things. Very, yeah, obviously. But
51:16
in June of 2022, Logan has a
51:18
change of heart and pleaded guilty to
51:20
second degree murder with a deadly weapon
51:22
and conspiracy to commit murder. He
51:25
was sentenced to serve between 18 to 45 years in prison. Logan's
51:29
attorney placed the blame on Kelsey and said
51:31
she was a master manipulator and Logan stood
51:34
no chance against her tactics because he was
51:36
in love with her. They
51:38
called the murder a crime of passion. In
51:41
November of 2022, Kelsey entered an Alfred
51:43
plea to second degree murder, which means
51:45
she admitted that there was enough evidence
51:47
to prove that she was guilty, but
51:49
she wasn't going to admit her guilt.
51:52
She ended up being sentenced to serve 10 to 25 years in
51:54
prison. By
51:56
this time, Kelsey had given birth to the baby she
51:58
was pregnant with when she was first arrested. Prosecutors
52:02
said Kelsey had instructed Logan to attack Tom and
52:04
then after he was dead, they left him to
52:06
rat in the car that he paid for. Furthermore,
52:10
after Kelsey was arrested, she had tried
52:12
to get a GoFundMe for legal expenses
52:15
and she was even in talks to be
52:17
on the prison drama. This is love after
52:20
lockup, but that's not true. It's
52:22
love during lockup. And Mandy,
52:24
I saw a clip, I found a clip, I
52:26
went to Reddit and they told me where
52:29
it was and I sent it to you. But
52:31
is love during lockup, did they have a whole
52:33
show of love during lockup? They also have,
52:35
yeah, they have life after lockup. There's so many
52:37
spinoffs. Wow, okay.
52:40
Oh my gosh. What a crazy connection
52:42
for you, Melissa. It really
52:44
was. But yeah, there is on the life
52:46
during the lockup, I did not like the
52:48
guy that she was apparently talking to, but
52:51
they bleep out her name because he literally
52:53
said, you can see him clearly say Kelsey
52:55
and who knows if this is all true,
52:57
but it would make sense. She was like,
53:00
she's looking at time for murder, but she
53:02
hasn't gotten sentence yet or whatever, but it's
53:04
definitely her. I'm glad they didn't give her
53:06
any camera time. So the defense said, quote,
53:09
I do wholeheartedly disagree with the state's
53:11
recitation of the facts. I
53:13
am, however, glad that Kelsey will have a
53:15
chance at rebuilding her life moving forward. I'm
53:17
also grateful for the closure for all parties
53:19
and quote, Tom's longtime
53:21
girlfriend Judy testified at the hearing and said
53:23
it was really hard for her to accept
53:26
the brutal way that Tom was killed in
53:28
February, 2023. Diana's sentencing
53:30
hearing was held and she was given
53:32
a sentence of probation, not to exceed
53:34
three years. She sat
53:37
down with 20, 20 for an interview and said
53:39
that when she saw Logan emerge from the garage
53:41
covered in blood, she had never been more scared
53:43
in her entire life. She
53:45
described it as just being a real life
53:47
terror and said that she turned around and started
53:50
washing dishes because it was the only thing
53:52
that she could do to calm herself down. She
53:55
said Kelsey was willing to kill Tom because he
53:57
was threatening to take everything away. Logan
54:00
is currently jailed in High Desert State
54:03
Prison while Kelsey is at the Florence
54:05
McClure Women's Correctional Center. Logan
54:07
also wrote a letter to ABC where he
54:09
pretty much continued to play the victim and
54:11
said that he wanted to help others that
54:14
were involved in similar situations. He wants to
54:16
show people that toxic love situations aren't always
54:18
what they seem, which I don't even know
54:20
what you mean by that. Are
54:22
they more toxic? Is that what you mean? That makes sense. But especially
54:24
in context of this whole story, I'm like, what do you mean by
54:26
that? Because
54:29
it seems pretty clear of what
54:32
toxic relationships can lead to. Absolutely.
54:34
Yeah, it seems pretty spot on. Right.
54:39
So that same month, ID series, The
54:41
Playboy Murders, which is the
54:43
show that Melissa and I were actually just
54:45
on an episode of, the same series, season
54:47
one, they released an episode about Tom's murder.
54:50
As I said, that's season one. It's episode
54:52
six, if you're interested in checking that out.
54:54
And it's so sad because it looks like
54:56
Judy and Tom had kind of come to
54:59
this point of cutting her
55:01
off and like letting leaving her to
55:03
her own devices. But something about it,
55:05
Tom just couldn't let go. So even him
55:07
going there to like check out if she's
55:09
telling the truth, I'm sure there was something
55:11
to that. But like for sure. But
55:14
also, I think he just he said it was
55:16
like heroin to him. So there was the connection
55:18
that he had with her that unfortunately,
55:20
you know, he took advantage of. And
55:24
for whatever reason, you know, you can people
55:26
can have their feelings on, you know, their
55:28
relationship as a whole. But Thomas,
55:31
obviously, as a human being, human
55:33
beings get attached emotionally to other
55:35
human beings. Kelsey had a young son,
55:37
you know, like that most he was
55:39
a child psychiatrist. Like you can't tell
55:41
me all that didn't play on his
55:43
psyche and pulled into like wanting to
55:45
help her, you know, and wanting to,
55:47
you know, through helping her would also
55:49
be helping her young son and helping
55:51
them have a better life. So you
55:53
can see where he would get emotionally
55:56
attached. He got emotionally attached to his
55:58
patients. You know, there's no way. he
56:00
wasn't like deeply emotionally attached to this
56:02
relationship with Kelsey and her son and feeling
56:04
that he was really doing something good in
56:06
their lives. And I truly believe that he
56:09
did think that and that that was, you
56:11
know, what kept him wanting to make
56:13
sure they were okay. I absolutely
56:15
agree with you 100%. So
56:18
Mandy, we have been talking about social
56:20
media and influencers. And for last thing,
56:22
before we go, I thought I would
56:24
ask you a few questions pertaining to
56:26
social media and wanted to see how
56:28
you would answer them. Yes. So these
56:31
are as of 2023, obviously no new stats in 2024. But Mandy,
56:33
almost how much of traffic on
56:39
Google comes from people looking for the
56:41
search term Google? Like
56:43
people go on Google and go on Google
56:45
and googling Google? Yes, ma'am, they
56:47
are. But you got to tell me how much 3.4%, 6.3%, 7.2%
56:49
or 8%. I'm
56:57
going to say it's high. I'm going to say it's 8%. And
56:59
then let me tell you the reason why I could be wrong. But
57:02
the reason I think that is because I sometimes will
57:04
just like open up my thing and you know, it
57:06
was already your homepage and then you just type in
57:08
Google. And so I think that's probably how it happens.
57:11
Exactly. When you were like, I don't know how that
57:13
happens. I'm like, I do it all the time. Yeah,
57:16
the answer is 7.2. But you're right. It is still
57:18
really high. It's crazy. Okay,
57:20
Mandy, this one's about Instagram. Which one of
57:22
these is not one of the top three
57:24
most popular foods on Instagram that are posted?
57:27
So is it which one's not sushi,
57:30
pizza, salad, steak?
57:33
Hmm. I feel like all
57:35
those get posted a lot. But I bet steak
57:37
is not one of the top actually salad. I
57:39
like that one seemed like I feel like I
57:41
see that one too much. I don't want to
57:44
see well me too. And especially in the world
57:46
of influencers, they're always like, look at this little
57:48
salad I'm eating. So I feel like I see
57:50
salads a lot. I see it too much. Yeah,
57:53
salad is the one that's not but I got it still up
57:55
there. Mandy, how many
57:57
new members join LinkedIn every
57:59
second? Whoa. Yeah,
58:02
I know.
58:05
Two, 12, 20, 22,
58:08
12. Okay, sorry, you're having a rough run here. But
58:10
two, but still the fact that
58:13
even one person joins a second kind of blew
58:15
my mind because it's
58:17
not my favorite place to be. It makes
58:19
me feel very unaccomplished and slightly dumb
58:22
on there. So I'm
58:25
there, but I'm not doing anything. Okay,
58:27
two more questions. Dwayne the
58:30
Rock Johnson has 242 million followers on Instagram.
58:34
How much would it cost for him to post
58:36
something on his Instagram, like for your business or
58:39
something? $700,000, $1.1 million, $1.5 million, $1.9 million. So
58:47
this is like if we were like, Hey, the Rock,
58:49
will you advertise Moms and Mysteries podcast for us? Like
58:52
how much would we make it on his square? How
58:54
much are his squares worth? I
58:56
gotta say a million. So was that one of the
58:58
choices? 1.5
59:01
million is what you mean, right? $1.5 million? $1.5
59:03
million. I know. I
59:08
know. And do you know what he
59:10
says after you buy it? You're
59:13
welcome. You
59:18
came up with that. All right. I definitely need $1.5
59:20
million. I know. Um,
59:23
okay. So the last one is the
59:25
most popular photo on Instagram, like ever
59:27
has 56 million likes.
59:30
What is this picture up? So it's got 56
59:32
million likes. Is it of the ocean, an egg,
59:35
a car, or Kim Kardashian?
59:38
It has to be
59:40
Kim Kardashian. I'm so glad I added that one
59:42
note with an egg. Oh, a
59:46
random egg. It's not like hatching or anything. It's
59:48
just like, um, I think it says, what's
59:50
it called when you do Ripley's, believe it
59:52
or not, not that one world record. It says like
59:55
world record egg or something. And I think that was
59:57
like the whole joke is like, can you get this
59:59
egg? to be the most popular thing and
1:00:01
people went along with it. 56 million. Wow.
1:00:05
Good for the egg. I know it worked
1:00:07
out well. They need, they need more than 1.5 million. So that's it.
1:00:11
Great job. Wow. Okay,
1:00:13
cool. Yeah. That was fun. All
1:00:16
right, guys, that was the show for this week. Hope
1:00:18
you enjoyed it. We will be back next week. Same
1:00:20
time, same place, new story. Have
1:00:22
a great week. Bye.
