0:48
for everyone. You have been warned. Your
0:52
friends are supposed to be there for you.
0:55
They're supposed to look out for you and
0:57
have your best interest in mind. When
1:00
you travel together, everyone tells you to
1:02
use the buddy system, which
1:05
essentially means you stick together. If
1:08
you go somewhere with a friend, make sure
1:10
you leave with them. But
1:12
in the story we have for you today, a
1:15
group of seven people would make their
1:17
way to Cabo for a fun and
1:19
relaxing vacation in October of 2022.
1:23
However, in the end, only
1:25
six would make it back. 25-year-old
1:28
Shinkwella Robinson had no
1:30
idea that these so-called
1:32
friends she traveled with did
1:34
not have her best interest in mind.
1:37
And just a few days into her trip, she
1:40
would wind up dead in a luxury
1:42
villa with her friends claiming
1:45
she died of alcohol poisoning. This
1:47
group, who would later be referred to as
1:50
the Cabo Six, quickly made
1:52
their way back to the United States and
1:54
tried their best to stay below the
1:57
radar. A Video would
1:59
surface showing- lynching while the
2:01
Robinson negate been brutally beaten
2:03
by one of the girls
2:05
in the group just hours
2:07
before her death. And sadly,
2:09
her autopsy would reveal that
2:11
she did not die of
2:13
alcohol poisoning. But by a
2:15
severe spinal cord injury. So
2:18
this is the story. As
2:20
soon Quello Robinson and the Cabo
2:22
Sex I'm Courtney brawling. And
2:24
I'm calling Brown and you're listening
2:27
to our new series Murdered American.
3:35
Sam's Club. Renata Robinson was born
3:37
on January Nine, Ninety Ninety Seven
3:39
in Charlotte, North Carolina to and
3:41
Salamander Robinson and by all accounts
3:44
San Kuala had a normal, loving
3:46
childhood Growing up, she enjoyed gymnastics,
3:48
basketball, cheerleading but she was also
3:50
intelligent, driven and are going to.
3:53
Father Bernard described her as a
3:55
growing sweetheart, a person most people
3:57
have to friends love to have.
4:00
One. Shank. Well as bubbly, sociable
4:02
nature allowed her to make friends easily and
4:04
even after all these years she saw at
4:06
a close bond with friends from kindergarten days.
4:09
San. Quello was popular in high school and
4:11
won the title of Prom Queen during her
4:13
senior year. After graduating from was
4:15
Charlotte hi Sharon Quello went on to
4:17
attend Winston Salem University which is a
4:20
part of the University of North Carolina
4:22
and as a store three Black University.
4:24
Now. Shank well ahead of very entrepreneurial
4:26
spirit so she decided to major in
4:28
business and she did really well. Since.
4:31
Hello was great managing her studies while also
4:33
keeping up with the socialize. One of are
4:35
best friends she met a college was a
4:37
young man named so we'll cut scenes. Leo
4:39
spent a lot of time together and he
4:41
would even go to her family's home on
4:44
the time, joining them for dinner, holidays, birthdays,
4:46
and even traveling with them for vacations. He.
4:48
Seemed to be a part of the family. Shank.
4:50
Was parents thought that Lille had a good head
4:52
on his shoulders and that they could trust him.
4:55
After college graduation, Sinclair decided
4:57
to use her business degree
5:00
in open several businesses in
5:02
Charlotte. One. Of the
5:04
businesses was cold exquisite to. Cheese.
5:07
Which. Was a women's clothing in
5:10
fashion store for other business.
5:12
Was cold exquisite. Kids. Here
5:14
breeding swine which siegfried for African
5:17
American children to fall in love
5:19
with their natural hair. And.
5:21
It's not easy having children sit in
5:23
a chair for hours while you breed.
5:25
They're here. Children. Get
5:27
distracted easily. Be can't
5:29
sit still. And. Many even
5:32
cry while they get their hair done.
5:34
This in Kuala was the perfect
5:36
person for the job. She loved
5:38
kids. And her main goal with
5:41
for them to be proud of their heritage.
5:43
Day. Kill agrees. A nail technician who
5:46
rented a sweet inside the same
5:48
building said that she admired for
5:50
work ethic. Same quote, she was
5:52
a hard worker. The matter what
5:54
was going on in her life,
5:56
she always worked. She would work
5:58
until past midnight. night to get the job
6:01
done, and would be back there
6:03
early the next morning doing another person's hair."
6:07
The two women instantly connected and often talked
6:09
about ways they could make their businesses better.
6:12
They also looked out for one another during and after the
6:14
workday. Daikala said her fondest memories
6:16
of Chanquela was when she brought her French
6:19
bulldog to work, something that she admitted
6:21
always made her laugh, saying, I'll always
6:23
remember her chasing that dog whenever people
6:25
were coming in. Chanquela
6:27
was a proactive go-getter who took
6:29
charge of her own life. She
6:32
made things happen through her own
6:34
determination and hard work. She
6:37
was young, successful, and had a
6:39
bright future ahead of her. She
6:41
also knew how to balance work and play.
6:44
So in 2022, when one of Chanquela's
6:46
best friends, Khalil, asked if she wanted
6:49
to go on a trip to Cabo,
6:51
she agreed. But it wasn't
6:54
just going to be them two. In
6:56
addition to Chanquela and Khalil, there
6:58
were five other people who were going,
7:00
two of whom were
7:02
celebrating their birthdays. Now
7:05
Chanquela had met these other five people
7:07
in college, but she wasn't close with
7:09
any of them. Her only
7:11
real friend on the trip was Khalil. But
7:14
that was okay with her. She
7:16
was just happy to go on a
7:18
nice relaxing vacation. And to
7:20
make matters even better, the group
7:22
had rented out this truly exquisite
7:25
villa. Online it was listed as
7:27
$2,500 a night. It
7:31
had multiple bedrooms with white marble
7:33
flooring, a jacuzzi, a private
7:36
chef, and a private pool with
7:38
a swim-up bar that overlooked the
7:40
Pacific Ocean. It was
7:43
paradise. And Chanquela was
7:45
so excited to go. And
7:47
being this incredibly hard worker who
7:49
never took time off, she deserved
7:51
this trip. The Day before
7:53
the group was scheduled to fly out,
7:56
Chanquela went to get her hair done
7:58
by Laveria Smith. The
8:00
Spring a neighbor. And. While she
8:02
sat in his chair. She. Talked
8:04
with and about how excited she was to
8:06
go to Cabo. She. Had
8:09
meticulously planned out where she was going
8:11
to pack for dedication. Stylish,
8:13
Swimsuits in cute dresses,
8:17
By. All accounts. Shoe.
8:19
Quello was really. Looking forward to
8:21
traveling with the Cabo Sex as
8:23
they would later be named. On
8:26
October twenty eighth, two thousand and twenty

8:43

8:48
Shank will have phoned her mom, Salamander and
8:50
Charlotte to let her know she arrived safely.
8:52
Salamander. Would later tell Cnn the same
8:54
follow was in good spirits on the phone
8:56
she said for i spoke with or see
8:59
seem to be pretty happy she was laughing
9:01
she seem very happy on that trip. I
9:03
said okay, enjoy yourself. Love you have
9:05
a party tomorrow and I never spoke
9:07
with her again. The group
9:09
checked into their luxurious resort Avila Linda
9:11
thirty two when the distinguished community of
9:14
for to Los Cabos and it was
9:16
even prettier and person. Avila was huge,
9:18
big enough for twelve people and the
9:20
views were stunning. Everyone ran
9:22
around going room to room he to
9:24
figure out which room they wanted and
9:26
after they founded the began unpacking their
9:29
face it was exciting. The group also
9:31
plan to go on boats and ride
9:33
as these was truly the vacation of
9:35
a lifetime and an experience never to
9:37
be forgotten. On
9:39
the first day of their vacation at
9:41
appeared that the group was housing at
9:44
the time to you aren't even kitchen
9:46
sink well as phone and recorded a
9:48
video of her that was later posted
9:50
to Instagram. To. Video showed
9:53
Sinclair passed out in Hammett.
9:55
It was posted around nine pm.
9:58
And shocking me. You can
10:00
be heard saying quote. He got
10:02
her first dead body. First
10:06
further. But
10:09
it but it was that it that
10:11
he sees to follow the rules. Aldo
10:14
ironic Israel didn't appear
10:16
to be a serious.
10:19
If anything it looked like to
10:21
friends sharing a funny light hearted
10:23
moment be given the events that
10:26
transpired the next day. That
10:28
video proved to be an ominous
10:31
prediction of what was that would
10:33
In the meantime, the group seem
10:35
to be having fun. Videos and
10:38
pictures posted on social media showed
10:40
the group laughing, drinking alcohol, playing
10:42
cards, and even skinny dipping. However,
10:46
the concierge working at the villa
10:48
on the day the group arrived
10:50
would later tell The Charlotte Observer
10:52
the something seemed off when each
10:54
has since in Kuala and the
10:56
other guests. He also noted
10:59
that she was the last person to join
11:01
the group at dinner. That he sorry. He
11:04
also noted that she was the last
11:06
person to join the group at dinner
11:08
that he theme and admitted quote she
11:10
seemed not to sit and will be
11:12
others. And quo. In
11:15
that was kind of true. The
11:17
other people on the trip were close
11:20
friends. Close in Kuala. Was
11:22
only really friends with Cleo. The
11:24
She wasn't going to let that bother her. In
11:27
fact, it was clear. That she
11:29
had been trying to connect with
11:31
the other five people. On October
11:33
twenty ninth in Kuala posted a
11:35
video to or Instagram account showing
11:38
her walking around the villa looking
11:40
for the other girls in the
11:42
group In the videos she jokingly
11:44
said quote. A sit that
11:46
long to get naked holes were yell
11:48
at. All the ills
11:50
everly elated. l
11:54
se I'm
12:00
gonna keep it hot. You gonna keep it hot? What?
12:03
I don't know where the fruit club. They, what's the old saying? They
12:05
crook. One of them is like mediocre and my chicken. I can't
12:07
do it. But Shinkuela's
12:09
video ended after she
12:12
found the group of
12:15
girls in one of the bedrooms.
12:29
She was fully clothed and standing in a
12:31
circle. And you know when
12:34
you walk into a room and everyone gets
12:36
quiet and you just get this
12:38
feeling that they were talking about you before you
12:40
walked in? Well that's
12:42
the energy this video gave off. Many
12:45
people that have watched it said that
12:47
it almost felt like the girls were
12:49
plotting something. And maybe they were. Or
12:52
maybe they were just simply chatting with
12:54
no ill intent. But
12:57
based on what happens later, this
12:59
video is pretty eerie.
13:02
However, whatever was going on inside of Villa Linda
13:04
32 on the morning of October 29th, Shinkuela
13:09
continued to be energized, bubbly,
13:11
and positive. She
13:13
wanted to enjoy her trip. And
13:16
on that day, she wanted to start it
13:18
with a dip in the pool. But sadly,
13:20
the fun day she had planned
13:22
would end in tragedy. Many
13:25
hours after Shinkuela's video was posted
13:27
to social media, at around
13:29
1.50pm, it
13:31
was reported that one of the girls in the group,
13:34
Dejanee Jackson, texted the concierge
13:36
at the Villa and asked
13:38
him where the nearest medical
13:40
facility was located. The
13:43
text read, quote, I think
13:45
my friend has alcohol poisoning and
13:47
needs emergency service and
13:50
someone to translate or speak Spanish for
13:52
us. End quote. The
13:55
concierge responded that he could send a
13:57
doctor that spoke English and
13:59
they would be able to determine if their friend
14:01
needed to be taken to a hospital. De
14:04
Janay agreed and told him to send
14:07
the doctor, quote, as soon as possible.
14:10
About 10 minutes later, at 2 p.m.,
14:13
the concierge phoned the on-call doctor at
14:15
the villa, who was a
14:17
woman named Dr. Carolina Gutierrez
14:20
of the American Medical Center. Now,
14:22
for whatever reason, Dr. Gutierrez
14:25
wouldn't show up to the villa until
14:27
3.15 p.m., over
14:30
an hour after she was called. When
14:33
she did finally get there, she determined
14:35
that Shinquela was, quote, minimally
14:38
responsive and clearly dehydrated,
14:41
but her vital signs were stable.
14:44
It was reported that Shinquela
14:46
was making sounds, but she
14:49
wasn't able to make full sentences. Which
14:52
is something you would expect if someone
14:54
was so drunk they had alcohol poisoning.
14:57
Shinquela's friends told the doctor that she
14:59
had been drinking all day and that
15:02
she probably just needed an IV
15:04
to get rehydrated. So
15:07
Dr. Gutierrez attempted to administer
15:09
an IV, but she wasn't able to
15:11
find a vein, which is
15:13
pretty common if someone is
15:15
extremely dehydrated. So
15:17
from here, Dr. Gutierrez told the
15:20
group that it would probably be
15:22
best to take Shinquela to the hospital,
15:24
but the friends refused. They
15:27
wanted the doctor to treat her at
15:29
the villa. It was later reported that one
15:31
of the group members said that the reason
15:33
they didn't want to take her to the hospital was
15:36
because of the cost. So
15:39
because of that, Dr. Gutierrez continued
15:41
to help Shinquela in the video.
15:44
And while she did that, her
15:46
friend Khalil decided to call her parents
15:48
in Charlotte to let them know what
15:50
was going on. Shinquela's
15:52
mom, Selimandra, said that
15:54
she received a phone call at
15:57
4pm from Khalil's phone when she
15:59
answered she expected to hear her
16:01
daughter's voice, because the
16:03
day before, she promised to give her mom
16:05
a call. But instead
16:07
of hearing Shinkuela, she
16:10
heard her friend Khalil on the other end.
16:12
He appeared calm as he told her
16:14
that Shinkuela wasn't feeling well, and
16:17
she most likely had alcohol poisoning,
16:20
which is so scary to hear for
16:22
any parent. Salamandra
16:24
said she was shocked, and
16:27
she begged Khalil to take Shinkuela to
16:29
the doctor. But Khalil told
16:31
her that the doctor was already in the
16:33
room with Shinkuela, and that everything
16:35
was okay. So Salamandra asked
16:37
if she could speak with the doctor, but
16:40
Khalil responded that she was busy taking care
16:42
of her daughter. Everything would
16:44
be okay, and he would give
16:47
her an update if anything changed. Then
16:49
from there, he hung up the phone. Of
16:52
course, Salamandra was upset and nervous.
16:54
Her daughter was sick with alcohol poisoning in
16:56
another country, and she could do nothing to
16:59
help her. But she trusted Khalil and
17:01
believed that he would have done anything to make sure
17:03
she was taken care of. So while
17:05
Salamandra waited for updates, Dr. Gutierrez stayed
17:07
beside Shinkuela in the villa and attempted
17:09
to help her to the best of
17:11
her ability. But Shinkuela would not get
17:14
any better. In fact, 4.49 p.m., it was
17:16
reported that Shinkuela
17:18
started convulsing and had a seizure that lasted
17:20
less than one minute. It was
17:22
also obvious that Shinkuela was struggling to
17:25
breathe, and soon enough, she was in
17:27
full-blown cardiac arrest. Dr.
17:29
Gutierrez quickly called paramedics while she
17:31
and the friends took turns administering
17:33
CPR, as Shinkuela's pulse stopped. When
17:36
the ambulance finally arrived, they administered a total
17:38
of 14 rounds of CPR, five
17:41
doses of adrenaline, and six discharges
17:43
AED shocks without success. Unfortunately,
17:46
Shinkuela Robinson was pronounced dead
17:49
at 5.57 p.m., but the cause of
17:51
death was not listed as cardiopulmonary
17:53
arrest. A police report was
17:56
written after her death, and it stated
17:58
that Shinkuela passed away two hours and 45 minutes. minutes
18:00
after Dr. Gutierrez arrived at the scene and
18:02
that there were no visible injuries on her
18:04
body. Of course, this information
18:07
would later be disputed. Back
18:10
in the United States, Salamandra
18:12
anxiously waited for Khalil's phone
18:14
call with an update
18:17
on Chinquela's condition. The
18:19
news she received would leave the
18:21
Robinson family devastated. Soon
18:24
after Chinquela's death, Khalil
18:26
called Salamandra back and told
18:28
her the news that
18:30
her daughter was dead due to
18:33
alcohol poisoning. From
18:35
that moment on, Salamandra's life would never
18:37
be the same. She
18:39
was understandably distraught, but
18:41
she was also shocked as
18:44
she listened to Khalil calmly speak on the
18:46
other end of the line. He
18:48
didn't appear to be upset or panicked
18:50
that he just lost his best friend.
18:53
Salamandra was also confused because
18:56
although her daughter did drink alcohol,
18:59
she was a responsible young woman who
19:01
knew her limits. Chinquela
19:03
had never had any issues with
19:05
alcohol consumption and she never
19:07
drank to the point of where it was a
19:09
problem. But back in Cabo,
19:12
Chinquela's body was taken by the
19:14
Mexican authorities for a
19:17
partial autopsy that was conducted
19:19
on the morning of October 30th.
19:22
The concierge later reported in a
19:24
witness statement that after he
19:26
learned of Chinquela's death, he was
19:28
instructed by his supervisor to go
19:31
to the villa and find out if there was anything
19:33
he could do to help. When
19:35
he arrived, he found a
19:37
group of police officers outside speaking to
19:39
one of the house guests and
19:42
as he made his way inside, he found
19:44
the remainder of the group calmly sitting in
19:46
the living room near the bar.
19:49
He said, quote, my purpose was
19:52
to look for the main guest, Ms.
19:54
Jackson, and give her my
19:56
condolences. When I talked to her,
19:58
I gave her my condolences. He
20:00
seemed me and told me that they
20:02
i talk to her friend's mother and
20:04
mention that this was so fast. Quote
20:06
to lose her in an instant
20:08
for having too much alcohol. I.
20:11
Asked her if I could give her a hug
20:13
to which she said yes. And she
20:15
gave me a very indifferent hog. Very
20:18
cold. As saw a very
20:20
sad guest. A skinny girl. And
20:23
I saw that she was in pain.
20:25
I left that area and stayed outside
20:27
the main entrance to give them space
20:29
to mourn. Degree. But.
20:31
Minutes later I heard laughter.
20:35
And applause. Now.
20:39
As really, kabul Six, they all decided
20:41
to end their vacation early and rebook
20:43
flies out of Mexico and went back
20:45
to North Carolina almost immediately. Shockingly.
20:48
It was also reported that the Cobbles Six
20:50
had already started looking into earlier flight back
20:53
to the U S A throw being in
20:55
Mexico for twenty four hours before same clothes
20:57
death. And this prompted people to
20:59
wonder about their underlying intentions while of for
21:01
flights home or when you get there. Were.
21:04
Novice and Kuala had passed there are
21:06
rushing to get back now. the cobbles
21:08
six and enough stuffing our same clothes,
21:10
belongings and or suitcase and would later
21:12
returned them to her family in Charlotte.
21:15
Ones. Back in the states, One
21:17
by one. Each member of
21:19
the Cabos six would visit the
21:21
Robinson family. And give their side
21:23
of the story. In immediately
21:26
Salamander knew that they were
21:28
all lined street to her
21:30
face. She said that
21:32
the story between each person
21:34
was somewhat consistent. As they
21:37
all told her that simpler had passed
21:39
away. Due to alcohol poisoning.
21:42
However, she noticed that smaller
21:44
details. Such as who
21:46
called for medical services were
21:48
her body was found in
21:50
Who found. Her. Body All appeared
21:52
to be different between each
21:55
person. One. Friend told
21:57
Sell Em on draw.and made had
21:59
discovered her unresponsive on the bathroom
22:01
floor. While. Another friend said
22:04
they found her unconscious in bed.
22:07
But. The one person solomon just Salt
22:09
Lake City tries to was coolio.
22:12
After. All she was her daughter's
22:14
best friend. The. Had known each
22:16
other for years and can you have
22:18
even gone on vacations with then surely
22:20
see would be the one that has
22:22
heard the true. That. Would
22:25
see sat down and their family living
22:27
room. He too was acting. Strange.
22:30
Salamander are expected him to
22:32
be grieving. along with their families.
22:34
As they dealt with this loss. With.
22:37
I didn't seem to be the case. In
22:40
with all of the inconsistency in
22:42
their stories, Salamander knew
22:44
that something. Was wrong here. Even.
22:47
Further, after this initial meeting
22:49
with the Cabos Sex. For.
22:51
Each of them came to tell her what
22:53
happened. The. Group seem to
22:55
have disappeared. Wanting. To get
22:58
as far away from sin close family
23:00
as possible. But. For now
23:02
for parents had a lot on
23:04
their please. Late. Getting
23:07
her body back to the Us. Her
23:09
father Bernard uphold the vacation villa
23:12
in Mexico. And the Mexican
23:14
authorities numerous times to find out what
23:16
she had to do. To extradite
23:18
her body back to America. But.
23:21
He said it was almost impossible to get
23:23
anyone on the phone. There. Was
23:25
also a language barrier which didn't
23:27
help as well. And
23:30
on top of all with this. Be.
23:32
We're still trying to figure out
23:34
exactly what happened. Without.
23:36
Any information from any one in
23:38
Mexico? The. Robinsons were forced to
23:40
rely on what the cargo six had
23:42
told them. A deep down
23:45
they knew that the group was lying. And
23:47
not would be confirmed days later.
23:50
When. Salamander received an anonymous
23:52
phone. Call on the other end
23:54
of the line. this person
23:56
told her that her daughter's death
23:58
was not accidental In
24:01
fact, they said Shanquela had, quote,
24:03
been beaten into submission. From
24:06
that moment on, the Robinsons made it their
24:09
life mission to get to the bottom of
24:11
what happened. On the
24:13
morning of October 30th, Shanquela underwent
24:15
a partial autopsy by medical examiner
24:18
Dr. Renee Adalberto Galvan Osiguera from
24:20
the Secretariat of Health. He determined
24:22
that Shanquela's cause of death was
24:24
a severe spinal cord injury and
24:27
an atlas flexation. An atlas
24:29
flexation is defined as a separation of the
24:31
skull base from the atlas bone, which is
24:33
the first cervical vertebrae of the spinal column.
24:35
In addition to her internal injuries, Dr.
24:38
Osiguera also noted a three-inch bruise on
24:40
her forehead, bruises on her anatomic snuff
24:42
box, which was located on her left
24:44
wrist, and bruises on both sides of
24:46
her pelvis, a split lip, and internal
24:48
hemorrhaging behind her right eye. The
24:51
autopsy report also said that Shanquela obtained these
24:53
injuries more than 12 hours before
24:55
her death. The final assessment stated that
24:57
the type of manner of death was
24:59
violent. Unfortunately, the Robinson family
25:01
did not know these new details, as
25:03
Bernard was still struggling to find someone
25:05
in Mexico who could speak English. Every
25:08
day, multiple times per day, Bernard called
25:10
to get information from someone who could
25:12
help bring Shanquela home. And
25:14
finally, after calling the villa, someone picked
25:17
up. It was a woman from the
25:19
management team who could speak English. She
25:21
informed Bernard that Shanquela had not passed
25:23
away from alcohol poisoning. She had died
25:25
because her neck had been broken. Bernard
25:28
told The Washington Post, She is an angel. She
25:30
is the one who first told us the truth.
25:33
She said, Mr. Robinson, your daughter didn't
25:35
die of alcohol poisoning. She died of a
25:37
broken neck. Both Bernard and
25:39
Salamandra were devastated and shocked at the
25:41
news, and even more so because Shanquela's
25:44
so-called friends had blatantly lied to them
25:46
about what happened. Salamandra
25:48
vowed to find the truth as to what happened
25:50
to her child and who was responsible, and it
25:52
would only be a few weeks before she uncovered
25:54
the truth. The
26:00
video was horrific and extremely violent. It
26:07
showed a naked Shanquella inside of a bedroom at
26:09
the Villa Linda 32. She
26:12
was being beaten by one of the girls on the trip. A
26:16
witness later identified her attacker in the video as
26:18
Dejanay Jackson. It
26:21
appeared that Shanquella's best friend, Khalil
26:24
Cook, was the one recording it.
26:27
Khalil could also be heard saying, "'Quela,
26:30
can't you at least fight back?' to
26:33
which she defeatedly responded, "'No.'"
26:37
"'Quela, can you at least fight back?' to
26:40
which she defeatedly responded, "'No.'"
26:45
"'Quela, can you at least fight back?'"
26:47
"'No.'" "'At
26:50
least something.' "'At
26:53
least fight back, something.'" "'Get
26:57
off, bro, get off.'" The
27:00
date of the video was October 29th. The
27:04
same day Shanquella died, and
27:06
it showed her vulnerable, attempting
27:09
to maintain distance from her attacker.
27:12
But despite this, the girl
27:14
continued to beat her. At one
27:16
point, Shanquella was thrown to the ground, and
27:19
Shanquella just continued to sit by the foot
27:21
of the bed, while the
27:23
woman beat, yanked, and repeatedly
27:26
hit her in the head. Dejanay
27:28
then kicked Shanquella's head with her
27:30
knee, which sent her stumbling to
27:32
the other side of the room. And
27:35
it was only then when the video stopped
27:37
recording. Now to this day,
27:39
no one really knows why Shanquella was
27:41
being beat up. But it's
27:44
clear in the video that she was extremely
27:46
vulnerable. Keep in
27:48
mind she was naked, and
27:50
while she was getting beaten, her
27:53
so-called friends are videoing it. When
27:56
the video went viral after being uploaded
27:58
to Twitter, The people
28:00
who saw I wondered why nobody
28:02
intervene to stop the attack. And
28:05
instead choose to film it. Especially
28:08
when the person recording. Was chimp
28:10
well as best friend. For. Father
28:12
Bernard was out searching for a grave
28:14
site for his daughter. When you learn
28:16
there was a video of her attacked.
28:19
And when her parents watched. It be
28:21
so sift the it always speculated
28:23
that the cobbles said have been
28:25
lying about would happen. With
28:28
now they had proved. Simplest
28:30
sister, Quill along said that after
28:32
she saw the video. She.
28:35
Immediately called Camille Cook.
28:37
She said pull a cold his ass
28:39
after I saw the video. He
28:42
won't even take up the phone. And.
28:44
Call. Now. After the autopsy,
28:46
results from Mexico were get to
28:49
the Robinson family. Who November Force.
28:52
Salamanders said She asked each one.
28:54
Of the Capos sex with he did to
28:56
her child. She said. One
28:58
of the males broke out into a
29:00
sweat and immediately left. Her. House.
29:03
Be. Salamander. I'd never heard from them
29:05
again, but after the video went
29:07
viral, people began to theorize on
29:09
what went down on the Paabo
29:11
geek. He said a sub reddit
29:14
forum was even created title Chimp
29:16
while a Robinson and people were
29:18
quick to offer. Their Opinions:
29:20
Many people believed her
29:22
death was premeditated. In.
29:24
That the Pablo said had lords
29:26
and quality Mexico. With. The
29:28
intention of murdering her. Some
29:31
people stated that maybe there was tension
29:33
between the women because of one of
29:35
the men on the trip with their
29:38
have never been any reports that proves
29:40
and Kuala was romantically involved with anyone
29:42
there. Other people suspect that
29:44
she was attacked. Because. Of
29:47
jealousy. Or greed. But.
29:49
In the end, we don't really know.
29:52
Suspicions. Also sell on not
29:54
videos and club posted on the morning
29:56
of October. Twenty ninth, the one
29:58
where she walks into the room.
30:01
In. Those girls were standing in
30:03
a circle talking about her. Some
30:05
people speculate. That the group was
30:08
conspiring to jump her keep in
30:10
mind and not videos in Kuala
30:12
was naked and hours later she
30:14
was being jumped while also needed.
30:17
The salamander said that she believes
30:19
the women attacked her daughter when
30:21
she was asleep because simpler was
30:23
known sleep naked. She said that
30:26
the women attacked her when she
30:28
in Kuala with most vulnerable. And
30:30
he wanted to humiliate her find
30:33
recording it. Has all of
30:35
this was unfolding. Internet Says search
30:37
for clues on the social media
30:39
accounts of the Capos. Sick with
30:41
One soon videos went viral,
30:43
many of them to read
30:46
their accounts. He stopped communicating
30:48
with the Robinson family altogether.
30:51
When they get a ride back the Charlotte they came
30:53
over to the house the be as it can tell
30:55
us what what had happened. What?
30:58
Was that conversation like what are they tell you exactly. Where.
31:02
They tell us it was. Alcohol poison, an
31:05
arms. Weeds. Irina
31:07
Corsi each one on because we're her
31:09
Be afraid we're gonna cause saying that
31:11
eggs or without fight her it was
31:13
no such thing as account for isn't.
31:16
So. We saw x and each one
31:18
I'm forced is about the situation
31:20
and I'm bay on. That.
31:22
Night and say the I was never fight. You.
31:25
Know it was alcohol. poets. Who
31:27
told you that there was a flight? Who told
31:29
you that. Where.
31:32
It was someone called on the phone we
31:34
don't know who bush is it called us
31:36
and told us this said they was owed
31:38
our finest so the video head to be
31:40
already out mainly cause it's tell us that
31:42
because they have seen video and we get
31:44
on seems. So. I see okay
31:46
as I we learned that information. That
31:49
now Cnn deliberately as not air this videos
31:51
as it appears to show your daughter being
31:54
attacked. Do
31:56
you have any idea that anyone
31:58
it'll tell you who? Sale? But
32:00
no matter what the motive, the
32:03
video made one thing clear. The
32:22
combo 6 didn't like Shanquella. It
32:24
has also been reported that there was another
32:26
video recorded that afternoon which showed that Winter
32:28
Donovan, another woman on the trip, brutally
32:31
beating Shanquella after Desjane had stepped
32:33
back. Now, this video has not
32:35
been released and there is no sufficient evidence to
32:38
conclude that it even exists. But
32:40
apparently, Shanquella's parents and authorities have seen
32:42
it. However, due to the
32:44
first video going viral on social media
32:47
and the story being thrust into the
32:49
spotlight, Mexican authorities and the FBI finally
32:51
got involved. The Robinson family and everyone
32:53
following the case closely on social media
32:56
were outraged after the autopsy results indicated
32:58
that Shanquella had suffered a brutal and
33:00
violent death. But the police
33:02
report from Mexico still stated that she had
33:04
passed from alcohol poisoning. It was also upsetting
33:06
for people to learn that the Cabo Six
33:09
had fled Mexico and gone back to the
33:11
US without being questioned and were back to
33:13
living their normal lives. Mexican
33:15
authorities were investigating the death of Shanquella as
33:17
a femicide, a gender-based homicide that's similar
33:19
to a hate crime in the US. Serbian
33:22
judge Ivana Milovanovic explained to UN Women
33:24
that, Femicide differs from other forms of
33:26
murder because it's the gender-related killing of
33:29
a woman only because she's a woman.
33:31
This indicates that the root causes of
33:33
femicide differs from any other types of
33:35
murder and are related to the general
33:37
position of women in the society, discrimination
33:39
against women, gender roles, unequal
33:42
distribution of power between men and
33:44
women, habitual gender stereotypes, prejudices and
33:46
violence against women. The United States
33:49
does not differentiate between femicide and
33:51
homicide, But certain countries, including those
33:53
in Latin America, recognize that violence against
33:55
women is in a category of its
33:57
own. Fournier
34:00
Sir Daniel though Rosa Nine said the
34:02
fight wasn't a quarrel, but instead a
34:04
direct aggression. It's about to Americans, the
34:06
victim and the culprit. Unfortunately, Beatrice Garcia
34:08
Nice, a project lead for Wilson Centers
34:10
Initiative on Gender based violence, admitted that
34:12
Mexico is one of the countries that
34:15
really struggles with these types of homicides
34:17
against women, and added if you commit
34:19
a crime of some aside, there's really
34:21
not that much of a chance for
34:23
you to get convicted for it. And
34:25
that's one of the reasons why we see that rates
34:28
are still very, very high. Know
34:30
what? The Robertson family was hopeful that
34:32
be Mexican authorities as well as the
34:34
F B I. Would. Do
34:36
their jobs and bring justice to
34:39
their daughter. Bernard would later say
34:41
quote, there's a whole lot of
34:43
unanswered questions about her death. I
34:45
just want justice for. My daughter.
34:47
She was my only child. However,
34:49
by the end of November, Twenty
34:51
twenty to be original police
34:54
report and same clothes autopsy
34:56
report were given to her
34:58
family. In. There were
35:00
major inconsistency between the two.
35:03
For instance, the police report.
35:05
Which was released on November twenty
35:07
first. State. Aid from
35:09
Doctor Carolina Gutierrez in the
35:12
two police officers who responded
35:14
to deceive. The Sinclair
35:16
had passed away. Due to a
35:18
seizure brought on by alcohol poisoning.
35:21
The police report also listed her
35:23
time of death as five fifty
35:25
seven pm. But her
35:27
autopsy report said something totally
35:29
different. The doctor who
35:31
conducted her autopsy said the she
35:33
had to have died along. We
35:35
plan. Which. Is almost as
35:37
three hour difference from what the
35:39
police report says. Her. Official
35:42
death certificate said that in
35:44
college died. At a spinal
35:46
cord injury and or manner of
35:48
death was considered violent. It
35:50
also stated that simple his
35:52
death occurred within fifteen minutes.
35:55
Of receiving the final blow that snapped
35:57
her neck. With how could that
35:59
be? Plus. If that were
36:01
true, then that would mean that
36:03
Shinkuella died right around the time the
36:06
doctor arrived at the villa. But
36:08
the doctor claimed she died hours later.
36:11
And believe it or not, in the police report,
36:14
there was no mention of Shinkuella's
36:16
physical injuries to her body, while
36:19
the autopsy report mentioned numerous
36:21
bruises, a split lip, and
36:24
hemorrhaging behind her right eye. So
36:27
why wasn't any of this noted in the
36:29
police report? Interestingly
36:31
enough, the autopsy report also
36:33
had no mentions of alcohol
36:36
or any other substance found in
36:38
Shinkuella's system at the time of death.
36:41
Now toxicology reports usually take weeks
36:43
to come back, but it is
36:45
important to note that the medical
36:48
examiner did not mention alcohol at
36:50
any point in the autopsy report.
36:53
A criminal defense attorney in
36:55
Mexico named Fabian Meneses told
36:57
WSOC-TV that autopsies are more
37:00
trustworthy documents. He said, The
37:02
autopsy should overrule the report because the police report
37:05
is written by cops and the cops are not
37:07
forensic experts. They're just taking notes. They're just going
37:09
to write out what they're told by witnesses. I
37:11
would say that most police reports don't have the
37:14
truth because it's either hearsay or they're being custom
37:16
tailored to what the police need to be in
37:18
the report. I don't want to say that all
37:20
police reports are false, but you definitely cannot rely
37:22
just on a report. But the police report
37:25
in the autopsy report only created more
37:27
questions for the Robinson family. How
37:29
was Shinkuella alive for two hours and 45 minutes
37:32
while Dr. Gutierrez attempted to revive her?
37:34
But the autopsy report suggested she was
37:36
deceased within 15 minutes after receiving the
37:38
fatal blow to her neck. It's been
37:40
speculated that the police and Dr. Gutierrez
37:42
lied, but of course, this is mere
37:45
conjecture at this point, but it created
37:47
more suspicions about what exactly happened to
37:49
Shinkuella on October 29th. The
37:52
media attention continued to invoke a global
37:54
outcry with the hashtag justice for
37:56
Shinkuella trending on Facebook, TikTok and
37:58
Twitter. Pablo Sixx remained
38:00
radio silent after information and footage leaked
38:03
regarding Chancuela's death and Azir Waggons, the
38:05
friend who arrived late to the vacation
38:07
on October 29th, went live
38:09
on his social media and talked about what he
38:12
witnessed. So far, he's the only
38:14
person to ever speak about what happened inside
38:16
Villa Linda 32. But
38:18
keep in mind, this is a live stream, so some
38:20
of the audio is a little messed up. Azir
39:19
said that he arrived after 3pm to
39:21
the villa on the afternoon of October
39:24
29th, and when
39:26
he got there, he had no knowledge about
39:28
a fight. He said
39:30
when he arrived, he was told by
39:32
the group that Chancuela had alcohol poisoning,
39:34
so he went into her bedroom, turned
39:37
on some soft music, and
39:39
stroked her hair until the doctor
39:41
arrived. I was not there
39:43
until the next day. I didn't see a fight, I
39:46
didn't know it was a fight, I didn't know
39:48
it was a video, I didn't know they did any
39:50
harm, anything. I went in there and told those alcohol
39:52
poisoning, so that's what I helped her as. That's what
39:54
I helped her as. I didn't leave her side. I
39:57
fell on soft music, saw her walker rubbing her head
39:59
to the nurse. He went on
40:01
to say that Shonquella was alive when he arrived at
40:03
the villa. And
40:30
by the time the medical examiner got there,
40:32
at around 3.30, she was deceased. He
40:36
said he was told by the rest of
40:38
the Cabo Six that the maids had found
40:41
her slumped over on the toilet inside of
40:43
her bedroom. Again,
41:30
none of these timelines are adding up.
41:32
Nazir, the guy in the video you just
41:35
listened to, said that he got to the villa
41:37
at 3 and Shonquella was
41:39
alive. Then by
41:41
3.30, the medical examiner said she was
41:44
deceased. But again, the police
41:46
report said she died around 6. And
41:49
another thing people wanted to know Is:
41:51
why wouldn't the doctor at the
41:54
villa immediately send Shonquella to the
41:56
hospital once she saw her condition?
42:00
She was rough shape by she just
42:02
continue to treat her at the villa.
42:05
Now the doctor would later say that
42:07
the friends didn't once in Kuala going
42:09
to the hospital because it would be
42:11
to expenses. Would hospital visits
42:13
and Mexico. Are wage cheaper compared
42:15
to the United States. And
42:18
even is it was very expenses. You
42:20
have a twenty five year old girl who is
42:22
dying in front of you. The
42:25
cost shouldn't matter. And she
42:27
should have been sent. To the hospital immediately
42:29
but all with this information
42:31
only clouded the case even
42:33
more. And. The one question that
42:36
lingered in everyone's mind was what
42:38
in the happened. And why
42:40
we're people. I. Once. And
42:42

42:44

42:47

42:51

42:53
started the autopsy with the report when
42:56

42:58

43:00
five days after senseless death on November
43:02
Twenty Fourth, Attorney General Daniel Dealer Rosa
43:04
Night in Mexico announced that award for
43:06

43:08
one of the female members of the
43:11
Compost Six. He stated this case is
43:13

43:15

43:17

43:19

43:21

43:23

43:38

43:40
The woman who was observed is being the
43:42

43:45
to the charlotte observer there isn't a
43:47

43:49

43:51
offenses with one being a speeding ticket
43:53
in guildford county but despite an arrest
43:55
warrant being issued for days in a
43:57
jackson there have been no legitimate report
44:00
that indicate she was ever brought into
44:02
police custody. However, a Mexican
44:04
news outlet titled Metropolamix reported that
44:06
Dejune was arrested by Interpol agents
44:08
on November 28, 2022. Metropolamix said
44:12
that she was apprehended in Connecticut and was
44:15
being held in federal custody, but the
44:17
Robinson family stated that they were never
44:19
made aware of any arrest in their
44:21
daughter's murder. In response, Metropolamix stated that
44:23
the Mexican government wanted the arrest to
44:25
be kept secret to avoid violating the
44:28
due process of extradition, but this
44:30
information has not been confirmed. Salamandra
44:33
hoped that Dejune Jackson, as well
44:35
as the rest of the Cabo
44:37
Six, would be arrested and sent
44:39
back to Mexico for prosecution. Under
44:42
federal law in Mexico, if the
44:44
Cabo Six was convicted, they could
44:47
each face up to 60 years in
44:49
prison. Salamandra told ABC
44:51
News, I would
44:53
like to see each of them sent back
44:55
to Mexico because their plan was to come
44:58
back here thinking they weren't going to be
45:00
prosecuted. She further added,
45:03
Shanquela was a caring person, and
45:05
I want them to always remember that. We're
45:08
going to keep her legacy alive. And
45:12
it appeared that the Mexican authorities and the
45:15
FBI were finally taking the
45:17
murder of Shanquela seriously after
45:20
her sister Quilla Long created
45:22
a GoFundMe page. The
45:24
page read, the United
45:27
States released a statement claiming, no
45:29
clear evidence of foul play. Yet
45:32
there is a video circulating of
45:34
a woman violently attacking Shanquela. This
45:37
statement is unacceptable and we
45:39
are beyond devastated. We
45:41
continue to fight for the truth. The
45:44
GoFundMe would ultimately raise $407,982 for
45:46
the Robinson family, which
45:52
included a top donation of $50,000 from
45:56
the American professional basketball player,
45:58
Kyrie Irving. Quilla said
46:01
that the donations would help with
46:03
Shankwela's funeral expenses as well
46:05
as legal fees. Now, in
46:07
December of 2022, Quilla
46:09
Long spoke to Nancy Grace on
46:11
her podcast, Crime Stories with
46:14
Nancy Grace, about the ongoing
46:16
investigation into her sister's murder.
46:19
Nancy asked Quilla Long, what
46:21
are the police telling your mom? And
46:24
Quilla responded, as of now,
46:26
nothing. The FBI, when she's
46:28
in contact with them, they tell
46:30
her they can't give her any more information and to
46:33
just be patient." Nancy
46:37
Grace ripped into the American authorities about why
46:39
no arrests had been made after a warrant
46:41
and extradition was issued. According
46:43
to Nancy, finding the Cabo Six shouldn't be
46:46
a hard process if American authorities were doing
46:48
their jobs. As for Quilla, Shankwela's
46:50
so-called best friend, Quilla said that she tried
46:52
to track him down at this residence but
46:54
found that he had moved. Meanwhile,
46:57
while the Cabo Six remained free to go
46:59
about their lives, the Robinson family was forced
47:01
to lay Shankwela to rest. On
47:04
Saturday, November 19, 2022, Shankwela's
47:06
funeral service was held at
47:08
the Macedonia Baptist Church in
47:11
Charlotte, where she and her family worshipped. Hundreds
47:14
of friends, family, and members of the
47:16
community arrived to show their support and
47:18
grieve the untimely death of the 25-year-old
47:20
woman. Her pink and white coffin
47:22
was brought in on a horse-drawn carriage, and
47:24
mourners wore pink in her honor. She
47:28
was a very humble spirit, very,
47:30
just very sweet girl. Shankwela

52:18
of Shanquella's closest friends, a
52:21
woman named Shannadika told
52:23
WCNC Charlotte that birthday
52:25
celebrations were always Shanquella's
52:27
favorite. One of the
52:30
group organizers stated, quote, the
52:32
Robinson family became Charlotte's family
52:34
when this tragedy happened. So
52:37
ensuring and seeing the hashtags on
52:39
social media is very important. The
52:42
case's momentum appeared to hinge solely
52:44
on its social media presence, and
52:47
the hashtag justice for Shanquella
52:49
Robinson continued to make
52:51
its rounds on Twitter, Instagram, and
52:54
TikTok. On January 17, 2023,
52:57
the Baja California sewer attorney general, Daniel
52:59
de la Rosa Anaya, held a press
53:01
conference and gave an update on the
53:04
progress of the case. He said, there's
53:06
no impunity in this case. Right now,
53:08
it is important to obtain, above all,
53:11
the judicial order of the presumed person
53:13
responsible for these unfortunate events. He
53:16
also said that through their work with Interpol,
53:18
a red notice was issued for the location
53:20
and arrest of Dejanay Jackson. A red notice
53:22
is a request issued by Interpol to be
53:24
on the lookout for a suspect pending extradition.
53:27
Although it is not an international arrest
53:29
warrant, a red notice serves as a
53:31
request for countries to work together to
53:33
locate and detain a suspect pending legal
53:35
proceedings. It was a positive step
53:37
forward for the Robinson family, but of
53:39
course, there were limitations with the murder happening
53:42
outside of the US. Chris
53:44
Sweaker, a retired FBI agent, spoke
53:46
with WCNC Charlotte and admitted, if
53:48
the foreign country is willing to
53:50
prosecute that individual, they will exercise
53:53
the jurisdiction. The other one is,
53:55
if that perpetrator is out of the country where
53:57
the murder took place, then that country has no
53:59
means of prosecuting or investigating the perpetrator.
54:02
During her podcast, Nancy Grace slammed the United
54:05
States efforts in helping locate the Cabo Six
54:07
and said that it shouldn't be a hard
54:09
task. She also said that if
54:11
any of the family members were actively hiding the
54:13
suspects, then they too should be charged with harboring
54:15
a fugitive. But despite the
54:17
international attention on Shancuella's case, the Cabo
54:20
Six were still going about their normal
54:22
routines, while the Robinson family endured torment
54:24
day in and day out. On
54:27
February 18, 2023,
54:29
the Robinson family,
54:32
friends, and community activists once
54:34
again gathered at the Little
54:36
Rock AME Zion Church to
54:39
demand justice. This time,
54:41
the group sat down and wrote
54:43
letters to Mexican authorities and
54:46
White House officials, begging them
54:48
to take action in her case. One
54:51
hundred letters were mailed to Mexico
54:53
and Washington, D.C. in
54:55
pink envelopes. Shancuella's favorite
54:57
color, civil rights
54:59
activist John C. Barnett said, quote, every
55:01
time they see a pink envelope, they
55:03
are going to know that we are
55:06
trying to put pressure on them to
55:08
execute the warrant to arrest these
55:10
individuals. End quote. It's
55:13
been nearly four months since a
55:16
local woman, Shancuella Robinson, mysteriously died
55:18
during a vacation with friends while
55:20
in Cabo. Her death
55:22
is being investigated as a homicide
55:24
after a video surfaced showing Robinson
55:27
being violently attacked during her trip.
55:29
An arrest warrant has been filed by
55:32
Mexican authorities, but no one has yet
55:34
been arrested. Today, as
55:36
the search goes on for answers,
55:38
dozens of people taken to the
55:40

55:42
Charlotte's Jesse Pierre has that part of the
55:44

55:46

58:10
to the high profile cases of
58:12
Trayvon Martin, George Floyd, and the
58:14
residents of Flint, Michigan, who were
58:16
poisoned by the water of the
58:19
Flint River. Now with
58:21
this help in the case of
58:23
Shambhuella, the Robinson family was hopeful
58:25
that the United States would finally
58:27
listen and bring justice to their
58:29
daughter. Ben Crump would
58:32
later say, quote, it's not a
58:34
hard ask. Either extradite
58:36
the killer or take jurisdiction
58:38
so you can prosecute the killer.
58:41
It's simple. We are asking for
58:43
a high level of diplomatic intervention from
58:45
the president of the United States and
58:48
for the Department of Justice to do what
58:51
is necessary to bring the person
58:53
and people who are responsible for
58:55
her murder to justice. I'm
58:58
attorney Ben Crump, along
59:01
with my great co-counsel
59:03
and partner, attorney Sue
59:05
Ann Robinson and
59:08
attorney Nabiha Sheer, Monique
59:12
Presley. We
59:14
have the honor of
59:17
representing the mother
59:20
of Shambhuella Robinson and
59:23
her family. We
59:25
also have present with us a
59:29
force of nature in
59:31
the name of Tamika Mallory
59:35
with Until Freedom. Also
59:38
we have my son, the general. We
59:41
have Angelo, the professor, Linda
59:45
Sarson and
59:47
other freedom fighters and activists,
59:50
not only here in Washington,
59:52
D.C., but especially in
59:55
her hometown of Charlotte, North
59:57
Carolina. And we applaud those.
1:00:00
activists in Charlotte from being there
1:00:02
from the beginning till
1:00:04
the end. We
1:00:07
are delighted and so
1:00:09
thankful to have one
1:00:11
of our true icons, one
1:00:14
of our heroes standing for
1:00:16
justice for the family of Shinkuela
1:00:18
Robinson. And that is
1:00:20
none other than Dr. Ben Chavis,
1:00:22
the head of the National Newspaper
1:00:25
Association. Thank you so much, Dr.
1:00:27
Chavis for being here. Attorney
1:00:32
Robinson and Ms. Mallory,
1:00:36
we talked about this day with the family
1:00:39
long before it happened. And
1:00:41
we were praying that we
1:00:43
would not have to come here on this
1:00:45
day. Six months
1:00:47
later, 200 days later from when Ms. Alemandra's
1:00:54
baby, Shinkuela was tragically killed
1:00:57
on that video. To
1:01:00
Quilla, her sister is also
1:01:02
present with us. And
1:01:04
we were hopeful that
1:01:06
the killers of
1:01:09
Shinkuela Robinson would have
1:01:12
already started to face,
1:01:16
would have already started to face
1:01:19
their... We
1:01:27
want to make sure everybody can hear. Okay.
1:01:36
We want to make sure everyone can hear. We
1:01:43
were hopeful that this day never had to happen.
1:01:46
Six months, March from when
1:01:48
Shinkuela Robinson was killed, we
1:01:51
were hopeful that her killers
1:01:53
would have already been bought
1:01:56
to justice, that they would have already
1:01:58
been picked up. with the warrant
1:02:01
that the Mexican government issue
1:02:03
for the immersive
1:02:06
for beating brutality
1:02:09
that saw this young black
1:02:11
woman who at the time was
1:02:13
naked and not fighting back and
1:02:16
when acts right, Miss Mallory, why
1:02:19
don't you fight back? She said she's not
1:02:21
going to fight back, but yet her
1:02:24
killers continued to brutalize her.
1:02:27
We were hoping that that
1:02:29
was enough evidence to say
1:02:32
you should be arrested and
1:02:36
let the wheels of justice start
1:02:38
turning because she quelled a life
1:02:40
matter. And
1:02:43
then we got the autopsy reports
1:02:46
and we just believed in our heart
1:02:48
of hearts that that was
1:02:51
enough to bring the
1:02:53
killers to be
1:02:55
arrested. So the wheels
1:02:58
of justice would start turning,
1:03:01
but yet that did not happen. We
1:03:04
were hopeful that
1:03:06
once the FBI got
1:03:08
engaged, that they
1:03:10
will respect this American
1:03:12
citizen, this young
1:03:14
black woman who based on
1:03:17
the video did absolutely nothing
1:03:20
to warrant such a savage
1:03:23
beating. But
1:03:25
yet here we
1:03:27
are six months later and
1:03:30
everybody who participated and
1:03:33
the maiming
1:03:36
and brutality of Shackella Robinson
1:03:39
is still completely free.
1:03:44
Imagine if this is your child. Imagine if this is your
1:03:48
daughter who you bear and you bought
1:03:51
into this world. Just
1:03:55
imagine that. and
1:04:00
nobody is being
1:04:02
held accountable for
1:04:05
how they killed her. And
1:04:07
that's why I'm so thankful to my
1:04:11
partner attorney Sue Ann Robison
1:04:13
and Tamika Mallory, these strong
1:04:15
black women, saying that
1:04:18
it's not just your sister, Chiquilla.
1:04:22
Chiquilla Robison is all our
1:04:24
sister. And if it can
1:04:27
happen to Chiquilla Robison, then it
1:04:29
can happen to your sister too. So
1:04:31
we all got to stand up for
1:04:33
justice for Chiquilla Robison. Justice
1:04:36
for Chiquilla Robison. Justice
1:04:38
for Chiquilla Robison. Justice
1:04:41
for Chiquilla Robison. Justice
1:04:44
for Chiquilla Robison. Sue
1:04:47
Ann Robinson traveled to Mexico on the
1:04:49
family's behalf and publicly stated that the
1:04:51
treatment of black women in cases like
1:04:53
Chiquilla's is unfair. She said, going to
1:04:55
the police station, going to the attorney
1:04:57
general's office, going to the Mexican Red
1:04:59
Cross, going to the doctor's office and going
1:05:01
to the actual villa where she had
1:05:03
spent her last moment. Trying to
1:05:06
find answers for this family was actually
1:05:08
unreal. Nobody should have to do that
1:05:10
for something that is equal and fair.
1:05:12
Activist Tamika Mallory compared Chiquilla's case to
1:05:14
the disappearance of Natalie Holloway in
1:05:17
2005, the story that we just
1:05:19
covered. She added, forget about her
1:05:21
being a black woman. She is a woman
1:05:23
and she is a United States citizen. And
1:05:25
we know what you can do. Let me
1:05:27
tell you how we know what you can
1:05:29
do because we've seen you do it before.
1:05:31
When Natalie Holloway went missing in Aruba, America
1:05:33
stopped and stood still. Natalie Holloway was in
1:05:35
our homes every day and she should have
1:05:37
been. And so should Chiquilla Robinson. Salamandra
1:05:40
stated that while the Cabo Six returned to
1:05:42
work and their normal lives, their lives had
1:05:44
been turned upside down and they were left
1:05:46
to wait and beg for answers in their
1:05:48
daughter's case. On March 13, Ben
1:05:50
Crump and Sue Ann Robinson shared a
1:05:52
letter that they wrote to President Joe
1:05:54
Biden and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken
1:05:56
that identified Dejanay Jackson as the aggressor
1:05:58
in the video. that showed Shanquela
1:06:01
being beaten to death. Included with
1:06:03
the letter was an 18-page document that
1:06:05
included the Mexican autopsy, police
1:06:07
report, the original Cabo Villa's rental
1:06:09
agreement, and multiple interviews with witnesses
1:06:11
after the murder. The letter stated,
1:06:14
Dear President Biden and Secretary Blinken,
1:06:16
On behalf of the family of
1:06:18
Shanquela Robinson, we write to request
1:06:21
immediate diplomatic intervention from the U.S.
1:06:23
government in this transnational criminal case.
1:06:25
The case involves the death of
1:06:27
Shanquela Robinson, a 25-year-old ambitious, bright
1:06:30
entrepreneur and American citizen. Given
1:06:32
the nature and scope of this
1:06:34
case, we believe that diplomatic intervention
1:06:36
from the U.S. government could help
1:06:38
facilitate the necessary cooperation and coordination
1:06:40
between the involved parties to ensure
1:06:42
that justice is served timely, that
1:06:44
the accused are tried under the
1:06:46
appropriate legal system, that extradition is
1:06:48
possible, and that international cooperation is
1:06:50
fostered. The document included
1:06:53
an official statement from the administrator of
1:06:55
the villa on November 19, 2022. Although
1:06:57
the name is blacked out,
1:07:01
the man admitted that he saw the
1:07:03
video of Shanquela being beaten inside
1:07:06
the bedroom, and he concluded
1:07:08
that after watching the video and
1:07:10
looking at the sun rays, he
1:07:13
indicated that the video was taken between 7
1:07:15
and 8.30 a.m., saying, In
1:07:20
the video, it can be seen that the
1:07:22
headboard is illuminated by the sun's rays, and
1:07:25
due to the location of the sun's rays, I
1:07:27
can deduce that it is between 7 and 8.30
1:07:29
a.m., since
1:07:32
the bedrooms 1 and 3 are
1:07:34
waterfront, and it's easy
1:07:36
to deduce the morning schedule since
1:07:39
the sun rises on the seaside,
1:07:41
illuminating those rooms. That
1:07:43
is room number 3, because that is
1:07:46
the only one that has a hammock outside of
1:07:48
it, and the hammock can be seen
1:07:50
in the video." Also
1:07:53
included was the official statement
1:07:55
from the concierge, who
1:07:57
admitted to hearing the Kaposik's laugh
1:07:59
after after Shinkuela's death and how the
1:08:01
group packed up their belongings and
1:08:03
left the villa without informing anyone
1:08:06
at the front desk. The
1:08:08
concierge said that Dejanay Jackson
1:08:10
texted him at 9pm on
1:08:12
October 29th and asked
1:08:14
for a driver to take them to dinner
1:08:16
in San Jose. Apparently
1:08:19
the group hadn't eaten all day and they
1:08:21
were hungry. But the concierge was
1:08:23
later informed that instead of going
1:08:25
to a restaurant, the group had
1:08:27
the driver take them to the
1:08:30
airport where they quickly flew back
1:08:32
to the United States on October 30th. He
1:08:35
would later say, quote, When I
1:08:37
saw the video on social media,
1:08:39
I realized that practically the main
1:08:41
guest Ms. Jackson had manipulated me
1:08:43
with the information she provided of
1:08:45
what happened to leave the country
1:08:47
as soon as possible. End
1:08:50
quote. But months later, on
1:08:52
March 16th, the White
1:08:54
House publicly addressed the murder of
1:08:56
Shinkuela Robinson for the first time
1:08:58
with a press conference given by
1:09:00
the White House press secretary. A
1:09:04
letter to the White House about
1:09:07
this case. The shown
1:09:09
woman was killed in Mexico in October
1:09:11
of last year. The
1:09:13
suspect is in this country,
1:09:16
along with those back here,
1:09:18
along with those who were present
1:09:21
during the group, the dead look
1:09:24
beating. He sent
1:09:26
a letter asking for extradition
1:09:28
of the suspect to Mexico for an
1:09:30
ex- The
1:09:49
tragedy is just devastating. We've been following
1:09:51
the news here, but
1:09:54
because there's an FBI investigation underway, there's
1:09:56
very little that we can say. We
1:10:00
are very careful about criminal
1:10:03
investigations or any investigations that
1:10:05
are currently happening through DOJ in
1:10:08
this particular case, FBI. But
1:10:10
our hearts go out to, again,
1:10:13
to the families. And I would have
1:10:15
to refer you to the DOJ and the State Department on
1:10:18
this. Let me ask you this. Since there's
1:10:20
an FBI investigation, does that mean nothing happens
1:10:22
until the investigation is complete? Or
1:10:24
I mean, could, I mean, the United
1:10:26
States has extradition, an extradition treaty with
1:10:29
Mexico. Is all
1:10:31
of this contingent upon the FBI
1:10:33
investigation? What I can say is there's
1:10:35
an investigation going on. So this is something that the
1:10:37
FBI has to speak to. So that's why I'm referring
1:10:39
you to the Department of Justice. And
1:10:42
it's also an issue of the State Department, again. So
1:10:44
I would refer you to the State Department as it
1:10:46
relates to another country and
1:10:48
the diplomatic conversations that occur there. But
1:10:51
again, this is something that we're clearly
1:10:53
following here. And our
1:10:55
hearts go out to her family. And last
1:10:57
question on this. Are there capabilities for
1:11:00
the United States to take jurisdiction over
1:11:02
this if it doesn't go, if the
1:11:05
suspect does not expedite that? April,
1:11:08
I understand the question. And I appreciate the
1:11:10
questions, all important questions to ask of me.
1:11:12
But again, there is an ongoing investigation. So
1:11:14
I would refer you to the Department
1:11:16
of Justice. It's not a process, not
1:11:18
necessarily the investigation. But
1:11:20
there is a process that's currently
1:11:22
happening because of the investigation. So
1:11:24
I would refer you to the Department of Justice and also
1:11:26
the State Department as there are, this
1:11:29
is a diplomatic issue that needs to be
1:11:31
handled on that end. Okay.
1:11:34
The information provided by the White House
1:11:36
was limited and didn't provide any important
1:11:38
information regarding Shancuella's case other than it
1:11:41
was an active investigation and questions should
1:11:43
be directed to the FBI, State Department,
1:11:45
and the Department of Justice. But
1:11:48
the Robinson family continued to demand federal
1:11:50
action. And on March 23, the family
1:11:52
and attorney Ben Crump promised to maintain
1:11:54
pressure on authorities to either prosecute the
1:11:56
combo six in the United States or
1:11:59
extradite the U.S. them back to Mexico.
1:12:01
In addition to Ben Crump, there were
1:12:03
several other civil rights advocates in attendance
1:12:05
inside the Verrick Auditorium at Livingston College
1:12:08
in Salisbury, North Carolina. The
1:12:13
development, as you all
1:12:15
know, attorney Sue Ann
1:12:17
Robinson, co-counsel,
1:12:20
and I offered a
1:12:23
letter that we sent to President
1:12:25
Biden and Secretary Blinken, asking
1:12:28
them to do one or two things, and
1:12:33
that was either to
1:12:36
extradite the
1:12:39
killers of Shacwill and
1:12:41
Robinson, because
1:12:44
there's an outstanding warrant
1:12:47
by the Mexican government
1:12:51
based on the evidence, not just
1:12:53
on the video, but evidence of
1:12:55
autopsy, that her neck
1:12:58
was broke, that that was the
1:13:00
cause of death. And we
1:13:02
see how her neck got broke based
1:13:04
on the video, or
1:13:08
to accept
1:13:12
the concurrent jurisdiction that
1:13:15
the Mexican government has offered
1:13:17
America to
1:13:19
come and have a
1:13:22
federal prosecutor prosecute
1:13:24
the killers of
1:13:27
Shacwill and Robinson. And the reason
1:13:29
that is an option,
1:13:33
when you think about it, everybody involved
1:13:35
were U.S. citizens. I don't have
1:13:38
to tell you all the story.
1:13:40
Her and these alleged
1:13:43
friends went
1:13:46
to Mexico for a vacation,
1:13:49
and for reasons
1:13:51
we cannot think of, it's
1:13:56
inexplicable whether it's envy or
1:13:58
why they would. murder
1:14:03
while he was murdered, and
1:14:06
it's still heartbreaking to think about the
1:14:09
video. And so we
1:14:12
have put the issue
1:14:14
right at the footsteps of
1:14:17
the White House, from PQT. We
1:14:21
expect Senator Menendez, who's
1:14:23
over the Foreign Relations
1:14:25
Committee, and he's telling
1:14:28
us to have a meeting with
1:14:30
our legal team and the family,
1:14:33
Tamika Mallory and other people who
1:14:35
have been advocating for justice, to
1:14:38
explain to us why
1:14:40
they can do all these things
1:14:42
for other people, where they have
1:14:45
no video evidence, but when you
1:14:47
have video evidence of what happened
1:14:49
to this angel from Charlotte, you're
1:14:52
all a slow-tragger. They
1:14:55
don't make any sense to any of us. And
1:14:58
then also we expect that
1:15:01
we're going to have, whether
1:15:04
virtually or in person, a
1:15:07
meeting with the White House after the
1:15:10
1st of April. And
1:15:12
these are something from them in
1:15:15
regards to our request. Now, they have
1:15:17
been very cautious to say they don't
1:15:19
want to interfere with the
1:15:22
State Department and
1:15:24
prosecutors, and we
1:15:27
respect that. However,
1:15:30
she was an American citizen. She
1:15:33
was killed on a foreign
1:15:36
land on video.
1:15:39
We expect for you to care about
1:15:41
this Black woman, just like you would
1:15:44
care about any other American citizen killed
1:15:46
in a foreign country on video. So
1:15:49
we want you to use the full
1:15:51
weight of your
1:15:53
office to get
1:15:55
justice, because as we talked
1:15:57
about so Eloquently.,
1:16:00
Possibly live in college and
1:16:02
equal justice? Not for justice.
1:16:04
Delays is justice demands and
1:16:06
we're not a good just
1:16:08
as missing. Well a rather
1:16:10
than a sweet I'll just
1:16:12
as one way or the
1:16:15
other forces will receive just
1:16:17
as was Sports. Justice
1:16:21
for sick will run just. Then
1:16:27
from continued by saying that the Mexican
1:16:29
authorities offered to encourage jurisdiction to the
1:16:31
United States, which meant they would allow
1:16:33
an American prosecutor to handle the case.
1:16:35
Since when the Robinson. On.
1:16:38
March Twenty to Twenty Twenty Three
1:16:40
to legal team representing the Robinson
1:16:42
Family. He stated that a meeting
1:16:44
with the White House officials We
1:16:46
scheduled to happen during the first
1:16:48
week of April. Two and
1:16:50
Robinson stated quote. The
1:16:53
purpose of the meeting is essentially
1:16:55
to find out where the United
1:16:57
States Administration is in the Protocol.
1:17:00
The Protocol dictates that the State
1:17:02
Department has to ask communication with
1:17:04
Mexican authorities in order to either
1:17:07
initiate an extradition process which would
1:17:09
then generate a federal case and
1:17:12
United States. Our government is
1:17:14
not. when is set a precedent a
1:17:16
you can murder citizens overseas and in
1:17:18
flew back home and get away with
1:17:20
said. We're. Asking for a
1:17:22
high level as diplomatic intervention.
1:17:25
If we don't get it by the two
1:17:27
hundred days and will have to demand louder.
1:17:30
And. quo. It. Was now size
1:17:32
months after the murder us in Kuala
1:17:34
and nothing had been done to arrest
1:17:36
the people. Responsible. Sue.
1:17:39
Ann Robinson also stated that all
1:17:41
of the Capos six have been
1:17:43
located. With no one had reached
1:17:45
out to them. And more importantly,
1:17:47
no. One had been taken into custody.
1:17:50
She. Said quote. There. Are sleeping
1:17:52
in their beds at night. They're. Not
1:17:54
in custody anywhere. And.
1:17:56
quo. The. Robinson family
1:17:58
along with. Everyone who has followed
1:18:01
the case from the beginning were
1:18:03
frustrated, as there was no progress
1:18:05
in the case. From
1:18:08
the streets of Charlotte to the
1:18:10
street of Washington, D.C., the call
1:18:12
for justice and demand for the
1:18:14
U.S. to take action in the
1:18:17
case of Shanquila Robinson continue. It's
1:18:19
been five months since she died
1:18:21
in Cabo, Mexico. Justice delayed could
1:18:23
become justice denied because every day
1:18:26
that dissipates, every moment that dissipates,
1:18:28
witness memories fade, physical evidence dissipates.
1:18:30
Suanne Robinson, the family's attorney, traveled
1:18:32
to Mexico herself for answers. She
1:18:35
said Mexican authorities told her this
1:18:37
case is a priority for them. One
1:18:39
of the witnesses, one of the personnel,
1:18:42
then was brought in and
1:18:45
they watched the video and
1:18:47
identified the person attacking
1:18:50
and beating Shanquila Robinson.
1:18:53
And that person was named as
1:18:55
the aggressor by the Mexican authorities.
1:18:58
Mexican authorities have filed an arrest
1:19:00
warrant and extradition proceedings for the
1:19:02
aggressor identified, but no one has
1:19:04
yet been arrested. Robinson says they
1:19:06
want the U.S. to intervene to
1:19:09
either extradite the person identified or
1:19:11
ask for a concurrent jurisdiction to
1:19:13
do their own investigation. Only the
1:19:15
United States highest office, the president,
1:19:17
the Department of State really has
1:19:20
the authority to do those things
1:19:23
and has the authority to say to
1:19:25
the Department of Justice, to say to
1:19:27
the head of the FBI, you
1:19:29
need to prioritize this case. Robinson
1:19:32
says their legal team is meeting with White
1:19:34
House officials next week to find out the
1:19:36
status of the case. As previously
1:19:38
mentioned, after Shanquila's body was brought
1:19:40
back to the United States, another
1:19:42
autopsy was performed by the Mecklenburg
1:19:44
County Medical Examiner's Office in Charlotte.
1:19:47
Forensic pathologist Dr. Thomas Owens examined
1:19:49
Shanquila's embalmed body on November 17th.
1:19:52
However, during the second autopsy, Dr. Owens
1:19:55
said there were no injuries to Shanquila's
1:19:57
spinal cord and he ruled her death
1:19:59
as undeterred. determined. He pointed out
1:20:01
that Mexican officials did not properly
1:20:03
or fully inspect Shanquila's spine during
1:20:05
the initial autopsy and attributed this
1:20:07
to a partial autopsy. As
1:20:10
for the toxicology reports, both found that
1:20:12
there were no traces of alcohol in
1:20:14
Shanquila's system. But Dr. Owens stated
1:20:16
that if she had consumed large amounts of
1:20:18
alcohol the previous night on October 28th and
1:20:20
because she was not taken to the hospital
1:20:23
when she became unresponsive, it cannot be determined
1:20:25
what the alcohol content was in her system
1:20:27
leading up to her death. According
1:20:30
to the original police report, Shanquila was found
1:20:32
passed out inside the bathroom by the maid
1:20:34
on the afternoon of October 29th. There was
1:20:36
a large bruise found on Shanquila's forehead and
1:20:39
hemorrhaging inside her right eye that Dr. Owens
1:20:41
said either happened when she fell or perhaps
1:20:43
blunt force trauma from the assault caused her
1:20:45
to get a concussion which led to the
1:20:47
fall. If Shanquila received a concussion
1:20:50
from the repeated beatings that were recorded on
1:20:52
the video, Dr. Owens said it could have
1:20:54
resulted in her passing out and her level
1:20:56
of consciousness when medical help arrived. In
1:20:59
addition to these injuries, Dr. Owens noted multiple
1:21:01
scratches and bruises on her arms, right leg
1:21:03
and lower abdomen and there were also traces
1:21:05
of vomit found in her throat. Although
1:21:08
there were no spinal injuries, there was a
1:21:10
hypoxic ischemic brain injury which can lead to
1:21:13
brain swelling but that can also happen after
1:21:15
a person goes into cardiac arrest. Cardiac
1:21:18
arrest was listed as her original cause of death
1:21:20
in the police report. Ultimately, due
1:21:22
to the second autopsy administered in
1:21:24
the US revealing that Shanquila's cause
1:21:26
of death was undetermined, the Department
1:21:28
of Justice said that the evidence
1:21:30
did not support federal prosecution. But
1:21:33
we're not deterred. We're still going to
1:21:36
be marching. We're still going to rally
1:21:38
in D.C. on May 19th because
1:21:40
it shouldn't be that in this country
1:21:42
that black women, black and brown victims
1:21:44
of crime have to do this every
1:21:46
time they are victims of crime but
1:21:49
it is unfortunately what it is and again
1:21:53
any discrepancies or
1:21:55
any issues with respect to Mexican
1:21:59
anatosities. versus the autopsy conducted
1:22:01
by the FBI, all of
1:22:03
those things are going to be a result
1:22:06
of a delay. And
1:22:08
now we're witnessing the result of
1:22:11
a delay, which is why there
1:22:13
was always a concern, which is why I
1:22:15
always say this is the people's case, this
1:22:17
is the people's movement that said, hey, there's
1:22:19
no reason why a black woman
1:22:21
should go on vacation with her friends,
1:22:24
be returned to her family in a
1:22:26
box and nothing be done for five
1:22:28
months, that the FBI be
1:22:30
permitted to sit on their hands,
1:22:33
that they be permitted to say we're
1:22:36
working because justice delayed can
1:22:38
be justice denied. We all know that
1:22:40
and have seen it time and time
1:22:42
again. And so that's
1:22:44
why I say on behalf of
1:22:46
the family, again, we're very disappointed,
1:22:48
very deeply disappointed, but
1:22:52
we're not deterred because it's something that
1:22:54
we've seen before and we
1:22:56
know that we have to carve our own path
1:22:58
to justice. Ms. Robinson knew that
1:23:01
when she asked me to go on
1:23:03
a fact-finding mission to Mexico that we
1:23:05
were obviously in a state of affairs
1:23:07
where there's two different justice systems in
1:23:09
America. And we know that in
1:23:11
ours, we have to fight for our justice,
1:23:14
we have to rally for our justice, we
1:23:16
have to beg for the same constitutional
1:23:18
rights and Shinkua is doing that
1:23:20
even in death. Even
1:23:23
in death, she's having to fight
1:23:26
for her rights as a
1:23:28
U.S. citizen, as a victim of a crime.
1:23:31
The U.S. authorities have to understand and
1:23:33
have to know that even if for
1:23:35
them it's not about Shinkua, that
1:23:39
United States citizens cannot go to
1:23:41
Mexico, commit a crime
1:23:44
that we all saw on a video and
1:23:47
then come back to America and say, we're
1:23:49
on base, we're
1:23:51
safe, we're not going to be charged
1:23:53
with a crime. That cannot be the
1:23:55
message that the
1:23:57
U.S. authorities want to send. So
1:24:00
again, discrepancies
1:24:03
caused or discrepancies in the
1:24:05
autopsy results between Mexican authorities that
1:24:07
we've all been discussing that we've
1:24:09
been discussing unfortunately and not being
1:24:11
discussed by the right individuals have
1:24:15
caused, have all been caused by
1:24:17
delays. If it has been taken
1:24:19
serious from the very beginning,
1:24:22
if the internet and the people and
1:24:24
social media didn't have to create the
1:24:26
movement behind the case and
1:24:28
the authorities would have gotten involved the
1:24:30
minute the video surfaced, there wouldn't have
1:24:32
been a delay. There would
1:24:34
have been immediate statements taken from
1:24:36
the individuals involved. There would have
1:24:39
been time to take an
1:24:41
immediate autopsy of the body before
1:24:43
it was embalmed. All of
1:24:45
those things would have been done,
1:24:47
but because it was the death
1:24:49
of a young, black, beautiful, brilliant,
1:24:51
educated woman who was on vacation,
1:24:54
justice was delayed. There
1:24:56
was no investigation done. It was not
1:24:58
taken seriously until the people had to
1:25:01
say, hey, we're not going to
1:25:03
accept that this is just what it
1:25:05
is. This can't be just what it
1:25:07
is. We see with our own eyes
1:25:09
an attack and assault, a crime happening
1:25:11
and nothing's being done. That came
1:25:13
from you all. That came from the people
1:25:15
saying we demand answers. And today
1:25:18
we actually ended up with way
1:25:20
more questions than answers. And
1:25:23
so that's why I'm determined and
1:25:25
fully aware and the team, Ben Crump,
1:25:28
Taniki Mallory, Until Freedom, Mario Black, all of
1:25:30
us, we stand with this family and we're
1:25:32
going to stand with this family till the
1:25:34
very end. On April
1:25:37
12, 2023, the
1:25:39
United States Department of Justice released
1:25:41
a statement that said, quote, the
1:25:43
death of Miss Robinson has been incredibly
1:25:45
difficult for her family and the
1:25:47
community. As a matter
1:25:50
of policy, federal officials generally
1:25:52
do not issue public statements
1:25:54
concerning the status of an
1:25:56
investigation. However, given the
1:25:58
circumstances of Miss Robinson, and
1:26:01
the public concerns surrounding this investigation.
1:26:03
It is important to
1:26:06
reassure the public that experienced
1:26:08
federal agents and seasoned
1:26:10
prosecutors extensively reviewed the
1:26:12
available evidence and
1:26:14
have concluded that federal charges cannot
1:26:17
be pursued. As in
1:26:19
any case, the government is
1:26:21
prepared to review and examine new information
1:26:23
related to the investigation, should
1:26:26
it become available." The
1:26:28
Robinson family was told that if
1:26:30
there were any criminal charges, it
1:26:33
was now up to Mexico to arrest the
1:26:35
Cabo Six. Steven Ward,
1:26:38
a retired assistant district attorney,
1:26:40
said that even though the
1:26:42
United States decided not to pursue
1:26:44
charges, it does not
1:26:46
mean that it would affect extradition, saying,
1:26:49
quote, when an extradition request is
1:26:51
made, that's simply asking the jurisdiction
1:26:53
that receives the request for police
1:26:55
to pick this person up and
1:26:57
turn them over to us. But
1:27:00
of course, these situations don't
1:27:02
happen overnight, and an
1:27:04
extradition request could take a lot of
1:27:07
time. In the months
1:27:09
following the announcement that the United States
1:27:11
wouldn't pursue charges against the Cabo Six,
1:27:13
the Robinson family attorney, Sue Ann Robinson,
1:27:16
ordered the FBI to turn over important
1:27:18
documents that detailed what the Cabo Six
1:27:20
told Mexican authorities after Chancuela's
1:27:22
death. According to the Charlotte
1:27:24
Observer, Sue Ann's request was denied, with
1:27:27
the FBI saying, we
1:27:29
can't give you the file because we're still in
1:27:31
the process of translating documents from the Mexican government.
1:27:33
Sue Ann believes the FBI
1:27:35
was negligent and hopes to bring a wrongful death
1:27:37
civil suit against the Cabo Six, as
1:27:40
well as taking legal action against the
1:27:42
FBI and the U.S. State Department. Sue
1:27:44
Ann added, the FBI saying that they've
1:27:46
done a thorough and diligent complete investigation, announcing
1:27:48
the case is closed, and
1:27:51
still saying that they're waiting for the documents to
1:27:53
be translated as negligent. Hopefully,
1:27:55
during the process of preparing and getting discovery
1:27:57
and evidence in the civil case. We
1:28:00
might actually be able to do the
1:28:02
thorough investigation that the FBI never did,
1:28:04
and possibly find more information about the
1:28:06
case to initiate criminal proceedings. The
1:28:08
Robinson family is heartbroken, tired, and still
1:28:10
grieving the death of Shankwela, but they're
1:28:12
committed to continuing the fight until justice
1:28:15
is served. The case continues to
1:28:17
circulate on social media, and Salamandra said that
1:28:19
she is grateful for the continual outpouring of
1:28:21
love for her daughter. She thanked Twitter for
1:28:23
shedding light on the case and not allowing
1:28:26
it to go cold. In
1:28:28
May of 2023, it was
1:28:30
reported by DNC Beat that
1:28:33
Elise Hyatt and Dejanay Jackson
1:28:35
were spotted at Electric Tequila,
1:28:37
a nightclub in Greensboro, North
1:28:39
Carolina. Because of the
1:28:41
media surrounding the case, people
1:28:44
noticed the women and decided to
1:28:46
take matters into their own hands.
1:28:49
Dejanay and Elise were actually jumped
1:28:51
outside of the bar. Sources
1:28:53
say Winter Donovan was also there,
1:28:55
but was not recorded in the
1:28:57
fight. A word on the
1:28:59
current three members of the Cabo sits, Zahanbi
1:29:02
Street. I'm gonna say my piece on
1:29:04
the matter and then I'm gonna go to bed. But
1:29:07
I just want to know the level of delusion that you
1:29:09
have to have to think
1:29:11
that it's safe for you to walk
1:29:13
in the streets with the ANC form
1:29:16
made change, civil rights
1:29:18
change, that you thought it was safe for you
1:29:20
to come get a drink at Electric Tequila. In
1:29:23
the land where the Aggies ain't got no
1:29:25
sense and the Greensboro locals
1:29:27
ain't got no sense either, you thought it was safe for
1:29:29
you to get a drink at Electric Tequila. I
1:29:32
hope them girls learn a lesson that it
1:29:34
is not safer than in these streets out
1:29:36
here for real because y'all, if
1:29:38
you look at the recent video, the girl
1:29:41
who was fighting Shonquilla, she
1:29:43
won't really get in touch like I needed her
1:29:45
to get touched. Like I needed her head to
1:29:47
be getting worked. The wig was still on, she
1:29:49
was still standing up. She's in a
1:29:51
blue shirt and shorts. She won't get
1:29:53
touched enough for me. And
1:29:56
that's unjustice for Shonquilla. But thank you Greensboro
1:29:58
for holding it down. That's real of you. And
1:30:01
now honestly, it really just goes to show what
1:30:03
kind of friends they are. They
1:30:05
legit let their friend Joya get beat up.
1:30:07
Like I'm talking about, she in more fights
1:30:09
than they are. And the
1:30:11
camera person is fired. But
1:30:14
like her getting like
1:30:16
in a headlock with a man. I don't
1:30:18
condone a man beating on a woman or
1:30:20
like fighting a woman. But it's the
1:30:22
headlock he had her in. Two of you just cut
1:30:24
to it. It's just too much. Like
1:30:27
when you see DJ standing on the side
1:30:29
not trying to jump in. I know why
1:30:31
she ain't trying to jump in because they
1:30:33
know she would have got rocks,
1:30:35
especially for the first video. Baby,
1:30:38
you was beating that girl she want fighting back. You want to fight somebody
1:30:40
who want to fight back now? They
1:30:45
let their friend get beat up. A
1:30:48
forum on Lipstick Alley showed pictures
1:30:50
and videos of the women getting
1:30:53
attacked. One woman wrote, quote,
1:30:55
We knew it wouldn't be long before
1:30:58
Lee's Hyatt, Winter Donovan, and
1:31:00
Dajane Jackson got scratched up. And
1:31:02
from what the streets say, quote,
1:31:05
it's just the beginning. Shanquella's
1:31:08
case has outraged numerous people and their
1:31:10
beliefs are that if the United States
1:31:12
fails to take action, street justice prevails.
1:31:15
Today, no one has been arrested
1:31:17
for Shanquella Robinson's murder and an order
1:31:19
for extradition to take place authorization would
1:31:21
have to be granted by the US
1:31:23
State Department. Sue Ann Robinson
1:31:25
said the family is literally out here
1:31:28
having to carve their own path to justice like
1:31:30
they are their own FBI. Hopefully
1:31:32
one day in the near future, questions will
1:31:34
be answered and justice will be served. But
1:31:37
until then, we can honor Shanquella's legacy
1:31:40
by shedding light on her case and
1:31:42
ensuring that her name remains spoken in
1:31:44
the media. Hey,
1:31:48
everybody, it's Colin here. Thank you for listening
1:31:51
to this week's episode of Murder in America.
1:31:53
We are just hoping that there are some
1:31:56
answers in this case soon. I mean, my
1:31:58
personal opinion, total. complete negligence
1:32:00
and a lack of care from the FBI. Not
1:32:03
something that we haven't seen before when dealing
1:32:05
with government organizations like that, but still
1:32:08
just a really sad story and an
1:32:10
infuriating story that makes you want to
1:32:12
do something even though you can't. But
1:32:15
I want to shout out some
1:32:17
of our new patrons this week,
1:32:19

more. So thank you all
