I went into this podcast thinking it would be mostly slice of life and barely any urban fantasy, which in hindsight makes no sense! Apparently I just can't read. ANYWAY what I'm trying to say is that this blend of urban fantasy, multiple universes and coming off age is perfectly done.First for the technical elements of the podcast, so I can talk about the story all I want later: All of the actors are incredible, the background is very well done and the sound levels are just right. Now for the story: I really liked the worldbuilding! Which at first seems to be unimportant since this is set in our world ...but of course the parallel universe comes into play and the whole doorway situation is a thing too (no spoilers). Especially the backstory of the door and the other kids is very well done. Also, if the characters were real people I'd order a copy of Coraline for them...Some other things I really liked were:1) the characterisations. All of the characters felt more like real people than characters in a story. All of them have distinct personalities and their own motivations and somehow they still manage to have "their trope" like characters from a lighthearted TV show. For example: Daniel is the smart kid who doesn't have many friends or his dad is the fun and loving dad who still loves his ex. That's not supposed to mean that people like that don't exist obviously but these are the easy characterisations by which the listener gets to know the characters and later on we learn more of their motivations and reasons. Which makes it really easy to fall into the story and get used to everyone. That was just really well done in the story and I really liked that!2) I loved the way the story progressed. The pacing felt very natural and as soon as the coming of age story started to become a mystery drama I lost my sh*t, I genuinely didn't see it coming! And the atmosphere just got more and more tense with every episode. SO good3) The way mental health was portrayed was well done in my opinion. I suspected the parallel universe thing to be connected to the charactersmental health somehow but not like that! And I quite liked that one character who is shown to be getting help with their mental health doesn't see their life and place in the world as unimportant. And they genuinely seem to want to continue getting help.4) Daniels character development specifically was something that made me tear up, I love him a lot and I can't wait to hear more about him in upcoming seasons!5) also, the ending was very very well done and I think about it a lot!
