Inner city cycling tour beginning at Object Gallery, 417 Bourke Street, Surry HillsSaturday 14 August, 2010Following on from successful events held in Melbourne, ‘ride-on-dinner’ partnered with Object: Australia Centre for Craft and Design to host their first Sydney event.Anthony Hamilton-Smith, the winner of Design Now 2009, led a cycling tour from Object Gallery around the streets of Surry Hills in Sydney’s inner city. Participants not only enjoyed a feast cooked for them by the ‘slow kitchen’ designer, they also listened to a talk by a local historian about the local architecture that surrounds them and characters of the past who resided in their local area as well as advice on maintaining their bicycles by a local bike club. The audience became participants in this mobile, pedal-powered kitchen, sharing a meal along the way. Hamilton-Smith’s slow kitchen is slow design at its best.
