It's the 21st century against the 18th century, as the Netflix algorithm goes up against Jane Austen, as Mansi and I discuss HOLIDATE and LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP (which is based on a 1794 novella, hence 18th century, dont @ me ;).
HOLIDATE invokes the awesome powers of romcoms but isn't really genre savvy. On top of that the gender politics are highly questionable. But maybe we laughed after all?
LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP is the perfect combination of Jane Austen's wit and Whit Stillman's ear for dialogue. Never have we laughed so hard about peas.
