The Kid has entered the terrible twos. So everything is a test and more trying for me especially when I’m on my own.

It hasn’t helped that everything has felt harder to do than it normally is. Small things in particular. So when you have to clean something five times because the kid or the cat keep knocking things down. When it’s just me, as it has been a lot this month, then it’s even more trying.

Work-wise, well there’s been good and bad. I’m signing a new client this week and getting to work on my first VR game. With Critical Charm we’ve had to scrap our current game and move onto something else. That’s not a bad thing, but the process of switching to it hasn’t been easy.

The new project is going smoother but it isn’t without its own hitches. I’ve had questions about the design, as I often do, but expressing those clearly to communicate with the others what I mean has been difficult. It’s not a language issue. But there’s something I haven’t been able to verbalize about the current intents of the design.

That’s now resolved as once again, the moment I stepped out of the office or really did anything else I got an idea. Actually putting my daughter down to nap has been fruitful quite a bit lately in how it clears my head and allows me to figure things out. The number of ideas I come up with outside of brainstorming sessions with others far exceeds those sessions.

Which is weird given that I do find constraints excellent for generating ideas. But maybe I’m not that good at teamwork anymore. Well that’s part of working with others. It’s meant to drive me to be better and develop new or re-enshrine old skills.

Speaking of skills and speaking, I’ve been considering closing down the One Game Dad podcast. Not the website since it’s my personal site but the podcast. Or maybe changing up the format. The stream aspect isn’t making for an interesting thing and I’m struggling to speak as I do. Plus if I just focus on writing and leave the podcasting to other ones I do since they have a clearer focus and better production.

Writing is just so much more satisfying and to some degree fun than even podcasting. Though I get to do other things in that medium. Maybe I just need to overhaul what I do and make this podcast more focused.

This week, as dark as my conversation is on the podcast, the game I played was even darker - Darkest Dungeon. You can find this episode on TwitchYoutubeStitcheriHeartRadio and iTunes. This podcast is hosted by the Third Culture Kids network.
