The Ostium Sagas
1:37
39. Saga III 66MYA Pt III
2:40
Recorders
2:42
note. Incredible.
2:46
Simply incredible. See, I
2:48
can use different words other than wow each time,
2:51
even if I have to work it a bit.
2:54
Just when I think there can be nothing more amazing or mind-blowing
2:56
as getting to see an alternate timeline to
2:58
my own reality, we have this Osteem
3:01
saga. I know we've only really
3:03
just started at this point, but still, the
3:05
evidence seems pretty conclusive. I,
3:08
of course, had a dinosaur phase as a kid, and
3:11
it lasted a good year or two. I didn't
3:13
get enough of them, and then watching
3:14
those Jurassic Park and Jurassic World
3:16
films was just sheer delight. Although
3:19
the first one remains the best, and most perfect
3:21
in my opinion. Just like the first
3:23
Star Wars, Episode 4, A New Hope,
3:26
is the best I think. You can fight me on
3:28
that if you want to. The only problem is, I
3:30
won't be able to hear you, so... Haha.
3:33
Anyway, I don't think any of us really talked
3:35
about it. It's so much always going on, we've
3:37
never had the chance, really. How far
3:40
into the future can you actually go through an Osteem
3:42
door? And, by the same token,
3:45
how far back can you go? I'm
3:47
sure we can spend days discussing it, and I can't
3:49
wait to share this saga with them once Jake and Mum
3:51
get back. I think I'd imagine you
3:53
could only go as far back as the beginning of humanity.
3:56
Now does that mean the Iron Age? The start
3:58
of agriculture?
4:00
Or back when we were less than homo sapiens? I
4:03
don't know. Either said, I've never
4:05
really thought that deeply about it as much as
4:07
I've wanted to. Regardless,
4:09
we now have irrefutable proof right here in
4:12
this Osteem saga that you can go
4:14
all the bloody way back to the freaking
4:16
dinosaurs, like mammals were still
4:18
small and relatively insignificant on
4:20
the evolutionary family tree.
4:22
Simply incredible.
4:25
Also bloody scary. I'm anxious
4:27
to find out how Armid fares in the land of the giant
4:29
lizards, and also how this Osteem
4:32
saga came
4:32
to be. And final
4:34
question, if you can go back in
4:36
time some odd 66 million years
4:39
or more, depending on what point in time of the
4:41
dinosaurs' very long existence this is, on
4:44
some mises you can go even further back
4:45
in time, perhaps even to when life
4:48
first began on planet Earth. Wouldn't
4:50
that be an interesting conundrum to solve? Okay
4:54
enough philosophizing, let's get back to Armid's
4:56
story. Saga
5:00
continues.
5:24
This naturally added to my fear. More
5:27
fuel for the fire if you will,
5:29
I thought, and that sparked, yes,
5:32
pun intended there as well, I suppose,
5:34
an
5:35
idea. The
5:37
time I forced myself
5:38
to accept the predicament I now found myself
5:41
in, and to work on keeping me alive
5:43
for as long as possible, because
5:45
if there was anything I knew about this dangerous time,
5:48
it was that there were many, many, oh
5:51
so many things that could kill me, wanted
5:54
to kill me,
5:55
and why should I help any of them by neglecting the
5:57
basics of keeping one's body alive?
6:01
I needed to find water, food and shelter,
6:04
ideally in that order, and also create
6:06
fire as that would help improve the situation
6:08
of those three basics of survival.
6:11
I made myself push back through the trees once
6:13
again, keeping as quiet as humanly
6:16
possible. The dinosaur was
6:18
very thankfully gone, while the creature
6:20
it had been feeding from naturally remained.
6:24
Also to my advantage there were no other creatures feeding
6:26
off the carrion, yet
6:28
I knew it would only be a matter of time.
6:31
Forcing my courage to grow, I ran
6:34
down the hill and drew close to the dead animal.
6:37
There was a poignant smell of blood and meat,
6:40
but not of decay or rancidness, meaning
6:43
it was still relatively fresh. I
6:45
thought I could handle that. Searching
6:48
through some nearby rocks, I found one that
6:50
looked to be made of layers. I grabbed
6:52
another heavier round rock and began striking
6:55
it at an angle. It gave off a sharp
6:57
sound I thought was too loud, but had
6:59
no choice. Soon the layered
7:01
rock
7:01
broke apart and I picked up a piece with
7:04
a jagged edge. This would be my combination
7:06
knife and saw. I began
7:08
working at the meat with it until it cut away
7:10
a good
7:11
piece. Not
7:14
too long later I had a fair amount that I had
7:16
decided would fill my stomach for the day.
7:19
My hands and arms were all bloody, as
7:21
if I had murdered someone, but I just
7:23
pretended I had slaughtered the creature myself and
7:26
would now be consuming it for food. I
7:28
then spoke the ritualistic prayer over the meat,
7:31
even though I was unsure if Dinosaur could be
7:33
considered a halal in any way. I'm
7:36
not even sure if this question has ever been asked
7:38
by anyone. I
7:42
would not, under any circumstances, eat
7:44
this raw meat. It was sacrilegious
7:47
and I would be at risk of becoming extremely sick
7:49
and possibly dying.
7:51
Therefore I needed to make a fire to cook it
7:53
thoroughly, and for that I needed shelter,
7:56
because creating an open flame out here would be
7:58
the equivalent of putting a massive target on me
8:01
and inviting anything nearby with decent
8:03
eyesight that can't make a meal out of me.
