On this episode, we tackle the response — or lack thereof — from Wilmington’s elected officials to the important issue of race, policing, and the city’s troubled history.

Earlier this week, Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo and Councilman Kevin Spears held a forum with local community leaders to discuss the issue. Some criticized the forum for a lack of concrete answers or solutions to questions and problems — including the elephants in the room, Wilmington’s confederate monuments. Others praised the attempt to have a candid conversation about race.

Regardless of how people came away from the forum, it’s equally notable as a contrast to the silence from many elected officials — both at the city and county level — in the face of pressing issues that have come to the forefront in the wake of the murder of George Floyd.

Also this week, we catch up with Downtown Alive, Donny Williams’ new role as the official Police Chief of Wilmington, and a correction to our earlier reporting on the Dollar General negotiations with River Place.
