On this episode, we tackle the response — or lack thereof — from Wilmington’s elected officials to the important issue of race, policing, and the city’s troubled history.

Earlier this week, Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo and Councilman Kevin Spears held a forum with local community leaders to discuss the issue. Some criticized the forum for a lack of concrete answers or solutions to questions and problems — including the elephants in the room, Wilmington’s confederate monuments. Others praised the attempt to have a candid conversation about race.

Regardless of how people came away from the forum, it’s equally notable as a contrast to the silence from many elected officials — both at the city and county level — in the face of pressing issues that have come to the forefront in the wake of the murder of George Floyd.
