On this episode, New Hanover County’s plan to keep 22 FEMA trailers from Hurricane Florence in the area as affordable housing. Plus, we break down the latest battle over reopening bars in North Carolina.

New Hanover County’s plan is a good idea on paper: at least seven families are living in FEMA trailers but their lease will end soon — this plan will ensure they can stay in the trailers by turning them over to a local landlord, the owner of a Wilmington trailer park.

But questions remain, including why the county only asked the private owner to ensure affordable rent for 12 months. What happens to the families when that year is up? (Plus, once again, we look at what’s hiding in consent agendas.)

Plus, the fight to reopen North Carolina’s bars heats up. As Democrats in the general assembly break with Governor Roy Cooper, the politics of reopening get more complicated. And, as the Covid-19 state of emergency heads towards its fourth month — longer than any other emergency in recent memory — there is growing weariness and concern over Cooper’s executive powers, even if wielded in a well-meaning way.
