Episode 13 | "Not Lovely People"
A Gen Z take on American Democracy
This episode contains adult language and may be triggering to some. Please take this into consideration before listening.
America is an Empire in decline: the rising cost of living, stagnant wages, the systematic extermination of social mobility, the historic rollback of once sacred rights, a dying diseased planet.
The existential crises that face our society and those the world over are difficult to enumerate. It is easy to feel apathetic toward them, to be too overwhelmed or exhausted by your day-to-day to even care. The worst may not even occur until after our time.
But think, just for a moment, of the ones who will inherit that time: our children, and our children’s children; those who will experience the ramifications of both our follies and triumphs. One day, they will be the ones living our lives, so should we not take their hopes, dreams, and anxieties into consideration when deliberating on the America we wish to create in the here and now?
My co-host in this episode is Dan Martin. We sit down with his daughter Sophie, and my son Taran - two NEW Gen Z voters - and have a candid conversation about their wants, grievances, and thoughts on American democracy.
