Episode 3 | Trauma and the Brain

WARNING: This episode contains adult language, a discussion about rape and sexual assault, and explicit descriptions of sexual assault. It may be triggering to some. Please take this into consideration before listening.

In this episode, we wrap up our first mini-series on sexual violence in the United States by sharing some statistics, discussing the effects of trauma on the brain and body, along with a discussion about the #endthebacklog movement regarding the testing of untested rape kits across the United States.

We also address the University of Michigan lawsuit that was finalized this week - March 2022. This lawsuit was brought forth by over 1,000 former students - mostly male - for the sexual assault they experienced while at the university. We share the story of Jon Vaughn, former U of M running back and one of the victims, who refuses to allow his voice to go unheard.

If you are the victim of sexual assault, please know that you are not alone and it is not your fault. You are strong and you can recover from this. There is help.

If you are unsure of resources available in your state, please reach out to the National Sexual Assault Line for support.
