Episode 8 | Race in America, Part 2: How We Can Fix Our Broken American Policing
In the age of the BLM movement, "abolish the police" and "defund the police" are two of the current mantras. In Part 2 of our ongoing discussion about Race in America, we take on the very heightened subject of police training in the U.S. I talk with a 22-year veteran police officer who is currently serving on the SWAT unit in a medium-sized urban area in the Southeast U.S. He is known as Tacticoull on social media.
Tacticoull and I talk about his theory on proper community police training: what it looks like through controlled violence, his dislike for most cops due to their lack of training and ego, and that community policing should be approached through empathy and compassion, not ego and force.
