In this week's Primary Politics Podcast- Guest- Neil Levesque, St. Anselm College Institute of Politics- While America is looking at the 2024 Presidential race we take a look back to a New Hampshire Governor who arguably was the most important Governor ever from New Hampshire. Concord, New Hampshire's own Governor John Gilbert Winant played a key role and helping to save the world from the evil of the Nazi's during World War II as the US Ambassador to Great Britain working closely with Prime Minister Winston Churchill and the allies, he showed a tough, determined support for the British people. He replaced the father of President Jack Kennedy Ambassador Joseph Kennedy Sr who told the president to cut a deal with Hitler and give up the fight in Europe. He was a two-term Governor from New Hampshire and few people have ever heard of him. FDR was a Democrat president looking for a leader to go to Great Britain to help Winston Churchill stave off the Nazis and Adolf Hitler. He sent Republican governor Winant from New Hampshire. Winant became so close with Churchill he actually had an affair with Churchill's daughter. Hear the untold story of one of the most important Governor's in New Hampshire history who played a key role in saving the free world during World War II.
